Actually, it has more to do with trying to have an informed discussion with someone who is unable to understand the difference between leadership and growth. And frankly speaking, I have neither the time or energy to be going back and forth on something that fundamental. BascoVanVeli: |
Dude, Unfortunately, can't help if you continuously struggle to understand the difference between leadership and growth. Wish you all the best. BascoVanVeli: |
Yea. They have been poor - haven't won a single game and are on the verge of being relegated. Plumptre seems to be the one consistent performer. Hopefully, a bigger club will come knocking on the door for her during the transfer window. Schemerkhiz: |
I am in general agreement with the players you mentioned, with the exception of Ngozi Okobi. I think she is done and has nothing left in the tank. That was evidenced by her very poor performance during the ABC Invitational and I think she knows the writing is on the wall for her, as Randy seemed to have little confidence in her. Really not impressed with Joy Bokiri's recent performances. Million naira question: Why hasn't Osare Igbinovia been given a look in? Schemerkhiz: |
1. Like I stated earlier, it might behoove you to avail yourself on what Leadership and Growth mean, from a footballing perspective. You really seem to be conflating the two. Being handed the captains band portrays leadership potential, not growth. Growth is the progression at becoming better in one's craft which translates into field generalship. 2. Regarding Payne and Ajibade struggling in the midfield against Ghana, that was because neither player was a defensive oriented player - both are forward leaning midfielders (AMs) and not DMs. So, the outcome was no surprise. 3. It could also be a lose-lose situation, if not properly managed. Abiodun is still on her growth curve and she is developing well, which is quite impressive. The biggest mistake that could be made is setting the young lady up for failure, by rushing her into a role she is a bit premature for. BascoVanVeli: |
Two different things. It may help for you to understand the difference. If your opinion is that neither Chikwelu nor Payne is capable of doing what Ajibola did in those matches, then hurray for you. My assertion still stands. BascoVanVeli: |
You meant 'Younger Players'... wink wink BascoVanVeli: |
Most of the people you named here played at least two (2) U20 WWC and were 'experienced', having played several years in the Nigerian women's league for Nigeria before making the jump to the Super Falcons. GeneralDae: |
Being captain is about leadership, not growth. She needs to learn how to pass the ball better, read and anticipate plays better and be quicker on the ball. All these attributes come with playing with and learning from battle scarred veterans, like Halimatu, Chikwelu, Payne, Ajibade and others. Like I stated earlier, we need to let her develop and not stunt her growth by rushing her into a role she is totally not prepared for. You will be setting her up for failure if you do that. Besides, her primary focus now is the U20 WWC qualifier against Congo. BascoVanVeli: |
For me, the most important competition on the NFF female calender now is the U20 WWC. Nigeria's future is at stake and it is a MUST that we qualify for that tournament, for the development of the Women's game. Super, super important!! Schemerkhiz: |
No, she is not. Good enough to understudy the likes of Rita Chikwelu, Halimatu Ayinde and perhaps Regina Otu, yes. She is barely 20. Let her grow before throwing her into the sea and forcing her to sink or swim. She needs to play in the U20 WC and if she stands out (I'm sure she will), then groom her into the full team. She is a smart, lovable and intelligent young lady and I am supremely confident she will do well, as she has the right temperament and mentality to succeed in Europe. But baby steps first. BascoVanVeli: |
Overall, this was good exposure for the girls that really matter - the ones currently in our U20 team. Could have been a better outcome, but for poor planning and mediocre strategizing and tactical outlay by the coach. He unnecessarily chopped and changed the team, in spite of having a very solid base to work from with the team that lost to Hassacass in the WAFU B tourney. Extremely DUMB move on his part! |
We all witnessed the quality Damilola Koku brought to the team. Why the coach opted not to play her in the first 2 games is beyond me. BascoVanVeli: |
Very proud of her. She exudes the passion and drive known with Nigeria women's football. Looks like she made captain too. Just hope that Nigeria makes it to the U20WC and she showcases her superb skills AND gets picked up by a top club in Europe. BascoVanVeli: |
Pick of the litter for me. Love her feistiness. She is just 20 and is on track to becoming a great box to box midfielder, with the right grooming. Hope Nigeria makes it to the U20 WC finals and hope she is picked up by one of the top clubs in Europe, as she may never actualize her full potential under any one of the current Nigerian coaches. Wish her all the best! Schemerkhiz: |
Game over. Rivers Angels out. 2 straight losses. |
Like I said, dude, let it be and lets move on. Cheers. BascoVanVeli: |
Its on Beinsports connect here. Subscription. isan: |
Agree. Harsh call on RA. But in general, officiating has been poor so far in this tournament and this call shouldn't be a surprise. BascoVanVeli: |
Not to brag, but I am supremely confident (and willing to bet the ranch) that I have watched much MORE football than you have ever watched. Lets just leave it at that, dude. BascoVanVeli: |
Not sure who he is referring to, but i'm not sure which high profile player of Nigerian decent out there that is being targeted to play for the country. The likes of Onumonu, Zogg and Plumptre hopefully, should become available once their documentation is finalized by FIFA. Also, the NFF doesn't seem to have anything lined up for our girls during the November international window. Schemerkhiz: |
Dude, you're the one who is reaching. 3 attempts and penalty shouts and hit the crossbar. I guess that counted for something as far as the score was concerned, right? Give me a break! The goals conceded are a reflection of the team structure and how they setup. If you have a weak spine (midfield), it impacts the whole team structure (Football 101). Study about the dynamics of how a team is setup and then we can have an informed discussion. BascoVanVeli: |
Tosinn Demehin had better bring her A+ game today - her stock is really plummeting. She was below average in the last game. Don't know why Damilola Koku is on the bench - she and Abiodun combined superbly in the midfield. At least, the dummy of a coach decided to bench the useless old mummy, Evelyn Nwabuoku. Schemerkhiz: |
So much for the ASFAR team being the team to beat. Just goes to show how bad Rivers Angels were. They sucked, big time! Wouldn't be surprised if Hassacas wins the CL and RA don't make it out of the group. BascoVanVeli: |
Why are you abusing them? Wasn't it someone who selected them and coached them? That is where the blame should lie. A team is a reflection of the coaches philosophy. Edwin Okon is the unintelligent one here. Also, apparently, the girls arrived in Cairo late last night. Seriously ![]() Very poor planning on the part of the NFF. BOOOMNAIJA: |
Why is it shocking? Our girls did not deserve to win this match. They clearly came out second best when it came to footballing intelligence. The better team won by far. The bright spot for me was Debbie Abiodun who played well but was undone by the foolish team selection and poor tactics by Edwin Okon. BascoVanVeli: |
Hattrick from Saana Masoudi. 3-zip. This Rivers Angels team is extremely poor and a direct reflection of the coach. Very, very poor team. All gra-gra, no footballing intelligence. |
Na to just stand up and applaud that goal. Brilliant. Nothing more to add. Pidginwhisper: |
Men!!!! The Morrocan captain Saana Masoudi (#18), who scored the first goal, just scored a brilliant second. Took Demehin to school, big time. Dribbled past the two central defenders, turning them inside out several times before scoring. Brilliant goal. Goal of the tournament for me. |
62nd min. Vivian Ikechukwu comes in. |
Old mama just elbowed the Morrocan #18. Totally unnecessary. Could easily have gotten a red card there - was lucky it was just a yellow. Dumb! |

Ayinde is coming back from injury so u can stop padding ur point with her name. None of Chikwelu, Ajibade and Payne can do the dirty work that Deborah does at the level she does.
