Sports / I Was Asked For Bribe To Make 2014 World Cup Squad – Chinedu Obasi by akinemma1: 6:26pm On May 09, 2020
When the 23-man squad for Nigeria’s Super Eagles to the 2014 World Cup in Brazil was released, a lot of football fans had mixed feelings as there were some questionable omissions and inclusions.
One of those who almost made the list was 2005 World Youth Championship finalist, Chinedu Ogbuke Obasi who scored Nigeria’s sole goal in the final as Messi’s Argentina ran away 2-1 winners.
Obasi has now revealed events that led to him missing out on what would have been his second senior World Cup final. In a recent chat on Instagram Live, Obasi disclosed that his failure to part with money resulted in his omission from the final squad for the trip to Brazil.
The striker who was at the top of his game at the time with German Bundesliga side, Schalke 04 said he felt heartbroken when he was dropped because he failed to give those in charge money.
He said: ”Two days before the list came out, I was asked to pay some money if I want to be in the team. I felt like I’ve paid my dues for the country, I shouldn’t do this. If I was a young player, maybe I would have done that, but it was a bit personal for me and I felt very heartbroken. I was playing for Schalke, I was playing in the Champions League and I was doing well.
“I was supposed to move from Hoffenheim to England and I got injured playing for Nigeria at the World Cup [in South Africa]. After that competition, nobody called me to know how I am doing. I spent a lot of money to get fit. All people talked about was the injury. They don’t care to know what I went through on a daily basis making sure I get my body in shape, to stay healthy.
“It takes a lot of dedication, money, investing in myself and my body. I went through surgery, did everything I can. Now a competition is coming up, you’re inviting me to the national team. I’ve exhausted my own money and you want me to pay, which is a slap in the face for me.
“I said I’m not comfortable doing that. They said I should know the system, and I should act like I’m a Nigerian. I said it’s not about being a Nigerian but doing the right thing.”
Obasi last played for Nigeria in a 3-1 international friendly loss to Argentina in 2011.

Health / Hantavirus Vs Coronavirus: All About The HPS Disease by akinemma1: 8:52am On Mar 25, 2020
ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT HANTAVIRUS
As per the latest reports, a Chinese man died of hantavirus and now, people are curious to know more about the disease. Amid the pandemic of Coronavirus and its scare, this case of hantavirus originating from China again has led to more searches about Hantavirus on Google already. For the unversed, the Chinese man who was from Yunnan province was tested positive for Hantavirus and he died while on his way back to Shandong Province for work on a chartered bus.
Hantavirus is a disease that affects both the pulmonary region, as well as the kidneys. A human can get the virus when he or she comes in contact with the faeces or urine of a rodent who is carrying the virus. Centre for Disease Control and Prevention says, "Rodent infestation in and around the home remains the primary risk for hantavirus exposure. Even healthy individuals are at risk for HPS infection if exposed to the virus.
Coronvirus vs Hantavirus: Let's dig deeper to know more about both the diseases.
How Hantavirus and Coronavirus spreads?
Unline Coronavirus, hantavirus pulmonary syndrome (HPS) cannot be passed on from person to person. It can be contracted if someone touches their eyes, nose or mouth after touching rodent droppings, urine, or nesting materials. CDC says, "In Chile and Argentina, rare cases of person-to-person transmission have occurred among close contacts of a person who was ill with a type of hantavirus called Andes virus."
On the other hand, Coronavirus can be spread easily among people and that's why quarantine, avoidance of large gatherings, lockdown and social distancing are advised to follow to curb the spread.
What are the symptoms of Hantavirus and Coronavirus?
The symptoms of Hantavirus are quite similar to that of coronavirus. fever, headache, muscle ache, abdominal pain, dizziness, chills, nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea are red flags. Late symptoms include lungs fill with fluid and shortness of breath.
How to prevent Hantavirus and Coronavirus?
CDC on prevention of Hantavirus, "Eliminate or minimize contact with rodents in your home, workplace, or campsite. If rodents don’t find that where you are is a good place for them to be, then you’re less likely to come into contact with them. Seal up holes and gaps in your home or garage. Place traps in and around your home to decrease rodent infestation. Clean up any easy-to-get food."
One can prevent Coronavirus by cleaning hands often, avoiding close contact, staying home if you’re sick, one should cover coughs and sneezes, wear a facemask if you are sick and clean and disinfect.
Hantavirus and Coronavirus treatment:
Just like COVID-19, there is no specific treatment, cure, or vaccine for hantavirus infection.

What? The police man that spoke with the journalist about how another car had been stolen at that same place before the Abuja bureau Chief's car, should be ashamed of himself. What is their duty there? Are they not expected to protect lives and properties? I suspect either the private security guards or the police officers knows about it. Either of them must have connived with the criminals. We are talking about a car here, not a bicycle. And for it to have happened at different occasions in the past is something to think about.

As for me, In God I trust for my protection.

On a faithful day in the temporal realm,
The almighty creator was born by his creation.
Angels rejoiced and shouted for joy.
Declaring good will and peace towards men.

For long the world has waited patiently.
The prophets over the years prophesied expressly,
About the almighty God becoming a fragile human.
To wrought an everlasting salvation for man.

The angels seek to look into this mystery.
Yet this understanding was withheld from them.
They've never seen the creator nor behold his shape.
Yet they've served him with reverence and awe.

Laden with utmost confusion and distress,
The prince of this world trembled with fear,
At the prospect of having the creator dwell among his creation.
"This cannot be possible", he assured himself.

The one who knows no impossibilities did the impossible.
He imparted his life into the womb of a virgin.
Just as the prophets prophesied long ago,
"Behold a virgin shall conceive and bear a son."

In the midst of a cruel and harsh reign of the Romans,
The prince of peace was born like a commoner.
Wrapped in a manger and watched over by his parents,
We have the fullness of God in an helpless babe.

The kingdom of darkness protested against this.
How could this be possible? They enquired among themselves.
They tried to snatch away the helpless babe through death.
But all their efforts turned futile and useless.

Oh! What a joy that filled the ethereal realm.
The will of God can now be done on earth as it is in heaven.
At last, man can now be redeemed,
And set at liberty forever from the curse of sin.

With a grateful and joyful heart,
Let praises be rendered to the eternal God.
Who came as a man to redeem man.
Bringing to an end the reign of sin and death.

Merry Christmas to you all!

Humm God bless you.
the gospel is no longer preached all we have is 'give your life to Jesus and live a holy life', which is not the gospel

Exactly. I was in a church just last week Sunday and the Pastor asked people to come out and give their lives to Christ so that God can settle them. I was like what? When did settlement became the gospel. A lot of people have "given their lives to Christ" simply because they want God to change their "story to glory" and move them from "hero to zero".

Religion / Gave Your Life To Christ? Kindly Read This by akinemma1: 1:07pm On Nov 03, 2018
As believers, it's expedient we have precise knowledge of certain terms we use especially when there is no direct reference to such in the Bible. A good example is "giving your life to Christ".

It might interest you to know that there is no SINGLE place in the entire bible where this phrase is used in connection to salvation. However, this is the most widely used expression among the clergy when inviting people to receive salvation. The Congregants are usually encouraged to come forward and "give their lives to Christ". I bet you've also responded to such calls at least once before. The danger inherent in this is that, the expression "giving your life to Christ" is the exact opposite of what salvation is.

You have no life to give.

Yes! A sinner has no life to give. The Bible describes a sinner as DEAD.

Ephesians 2:1

You used to be DEAD because of your offenses and sins,

A sinner is dead, hence he cannot give any life. So it will be hilarious for me to tell a dead man to give his life to Christ. Contrary to giving, what happens at salvation is that man RECEIVES. At salvation, man is not the giver, the giver is CHRIST. The role of man is simply to RECEIVE.

John 10:27-28

My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: And I GIVE UNTO THEM ETERNAL LIFE; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.

From the above verses, you can clearly see that CHRIST is the GIVER OF ETERNAL LIFE while MAN only RECEIVES ETERNAL LIFE. And this takes place at the point of salvation. Hence, to tell sinners to come forward and "give their lives" to Christ is strictly unbiblical. Some Clergy even go as far as praying to God to "write the name of the converts in the book of life". I wonder who the Pastor thinks he is. Maybe a co-saviour with Christ. Such prayer is born out of a deficient knowledge of what salvation is.

This wrong expression has hindered many from having a precise knowledge of salvation. Hence, you see them boast about their salvation as if they got it by their determination and self efforts. Salvation is strictly by grace through Faith. Nothing more, nothing less! This was clearly stated by Apostle Paul in his Epistle to the Ephesians.

Ephesians 2:8-9

For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.

It's quite simple. As far as salvation is concerned, God takes all the glory. So in our attempt to preach the gospel, we must stick with the same terms the apostles used. Let's take a look at few references from the scriptures where the gospel was preached by the apostles of Christ and see what they asked the people to do.

Acts 16:30-31

And brought them out, and said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved? And they said, BELIEVE on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.

Did you notice the reply? BELIEVE ON THE LORD JESUS CHRIST not GIVE YOUR LIFE TO THE LORD JESUS CHRIST.

Acts 4:4

Howbeit many of them which heard the word BELIEVED; and the number of the men was about five thousand.

Again, when they heard the gospel, the response of the people was to simply BELIEVE not GIVE THEIR LIFE.

Acts 8:37

And Philip said, If thou BELIEVETH with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I BELIEVE that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.

Here, after preaching to the Ethiopian Eunuch, what Philip requested was for him to simply BELIEVE and that was exactly what the Eunuch did. He simply said, "I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God" not "I give my life to Jesus the son of God".

See one more bible reference:

Acts 8:12

But when they BELIEVED Philip preaching the things concerning the kingdom of God, and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and women.

The response of the people here was also BELIEVING not GIVING.

In the Bible, the word "receive is used synonymously to the word "believe" as pertaining to the gospel. See this verse:

Acts 8:14

Now when the apostles which were at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had RECEIVED the word of God, they sent unto them Peter and John:

This was the same Samaria Luke reported that they BELIEVED the gospel Philip preached to them. So in this instance, the word "BELIEVED" and "RECEIVED" were used interchangeably.

Acts 11:1

And the apostles and brethren that were in Judaea heard that the Gentiles had also RECEIVED the word of God.

The word "received" as used here is the same as "believed" the word of God.

Apostle John in his synoptic gospel also made use of these words interchangeably.

John 1:11-12

He came unto his own, and his own RECEIVED him not. But as many as RECEIVED him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that BELIEVE on his name:

Also, Apostle Paul used the same word when admonishing the Colossians.

Colossians 2:6

As ye have therefore RECEIVED Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him:

"Received Christ" here is same as "believed Christ" because he was certainly referring to when they got saved.

From these biblical references, you must have seen that nothing suggests GIVING at the point of salvation. TO BELIEVE THE GOSPEL IS TO RECEIVE CHRIST.

So you never GAVE your life to Christ for you to be saved. You only RECEIVED ETERNAL LIFE the moment you BELIEVED THE GOSPEL.

Clear?

Stay blessed!
