PoliticsRe: Nigeria Steel Factory Back To Life After 40 Years - Aljazeera (Pics + video) by Akious2k2(m): 11:44am On Jun 21, 2018
OMEGA009:
No Nigerian can visit Ajaokuta Steel Company ASC, see investments of more than $8b rotting in the African sun and not cry. i went there, I cried. what exactly is the problem? if I have written severally on this topic, but today let me do a comprehensive post.

Ajaokuta Steel Company is massive, she has 68km road network, 24 housing estates on the project. Some of the estates have over 1,000 homes, a seaport, a 110mw power generation plant, there are 43 separate plants in Ajaokuta alone. It is estimated that if Ajaokuta becomes operational, it will create 500,000 jobs.

There is no industrialized nation on earth that does not have a steel sector it’s that simple. A report by the Central Bank of Nigeria shows that Nigeria currently imports steel, aluminum products and associated derivatives of approximately 25 metric tonnes per annum estimated at $4.5bn, this figure will continue to rise, and the Nigerian economy continues to expand. Ajaokuta is an integrated steel company, it was designed by the Russian to be self-sufficient to get all its inputs from Nigeria and make steel. Ajaokuta strength is also its weakness, Ajaokuta can only work with all inputs available.

this will be a slightly technical post, but please try and follow.

Steel is an alloy of iron and carbon amongst other things, iron is the base metal in steel, to make steel, you need Iron Ore, Coke from Coal, Limestone as main components. these components are mixed in a blast furnace to produce liquid steel which can be long steel for rail lines or flat steel for automobile making etc

To give a simple example, look at steel as making jollof rice, iron ore is the rice, the limestone and coke are the pepper and salt the pot is the blast furnace. At a steel plane the blast furnace is ONLY turned on when the steel company is ready to make steel. Blast furnaces operate continuously and are never shut down. The raw material to be fed into the furnace is divided into several small charges that are introduced into the furnace at 10- to 15-min intervals. this means everything must be in place BEFORE the blast furnace is turned on, the iron ore, the coal, the limestone, everything, why? Because you do not switch off a blast furnace for another 10 years or however its campaign life is.

Nigeria has blessed with all the major raw materials needed to produce steel including iron ore in Kogi, coal and limestone in Enugu.

Nigerian iron has very low iron concentration. Agbaja has the largest iron ore deposit in Nigeria with about 2 billion tonnes but the Agbaja iron ore has a high phosphate content. Phosphate can cause brittleness in steel making it to fracture, thus Agbaga was abandoned for Itakpe. Itakpe iron ore has no issues with phosphate but has low iron content, thus to make steel with Nigeria iron ore, a process called “beneficiation” has to be done to process the Itakpe ores to raise its iron content to meet the required standard for steel production.

Coal? Most of the coal found in Nigeria is non-coking, thus, unsuitable for steel production. coal deposits in Enugu, have no impurities but are non-coking. The good news? Nigeria has abundant deposit of limestone and we have natural gas to provide power

So back to Ajaokuta, what really happened? why can Nigeria not make steel anytime soon? let’s link up the elements

Policy Failure: The Ajaokuta contract was signed between the Nigerian government and the Soviet state-owned company, Tiajpromexport (TPE) the company was scheduled for completion in 1986. In 2012, the Federal Government launched her backward integration policy. Going forward import licenses for steel products was only granted to companies producing steel locally. TPE to ensure they could import steel parts for Ajaokuta simply went ahead and built the rolling mills in Ajaokuta before the actual steel plant was completed, they imported billet from Ukraine to accomplish this. Thus, Ajaokuta was producing steel before the actual steel plant was started. Thus, amazingly Ajaokuta has a functional rolling mills but no operational blast furnace, Ajaokuta cannot produce steel from basic iron ore found in Nigeria in her blast furnace.…this is the definition of cart before the horse.

NIOMCO Factor: The iron ore in Nigeria earmarked for Ajaokuta is from Itakpe, it has low iron content thus the FG built National Iron Ore Mining Company (NIOMCO) a 2.15 metric tonnes beneficiation plant designed to process the low-quality iron ore from Itakpe to iron ore suitable for Ajaokuta Steel. Simply put, if NIOMCO does not operate, Ajaokuta CANNOT operate (unless Ajaokuta uses imported iron ore.) as at today, June 17th 2018, NIOMCO is not operational

Railway: 15m tonnes of iron ore cannot be moved by road, as it will destroy the roads, thus a railway was to be built from Itakpe to Ajaokuta to take iron ore from the beneficiation plan in Itakpe to the Ajaokuta. The. Itakpe to Ajaokuta by rail is just 52km, the rail line was to be delivered by March 2019, but the Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi revised the delivery date to June 2018 and converted the purely commercial railway to also carry human passengers. These changes meant the cost of the project and delivery dates had to change as passenger wagons and train stations had to be built. To achieve this, 12 new passenger stations and 12 access roads had to be designed and built. The Itakpe to Ajaokuta (IA) has two stations. As at June 2018, The station IA1 – Eganyi to Itakpe, is still under design. Station AW1 – Ajaokuta (standard station) (zero per cent work done). Thus the railways are not functional

Blast Furnace: The furnace in Ajaokuta is the heart of Ajaokuta, it is the pot where the jollof rice will be cooked, however it has never been turned on, why? because there has never been any time Ajaokuta has had raw materials available to ensure continuous day in day out production for 5 years. Why has there never been materials? Because there is no rail way to take iron ore from Itakpe to Ajaokuta. Why is there no railway from Itakpe to Ajaokuta? Because NIOMCO in Itakpe is moribund and no functional and cannot convert Nigeria iron ore to high grade ore for the furnace in Ajaokuta.

So, it follows that for Ajaokuta to work, we MUST have three key critical paths

NIOMCO must be functional
Itakpe to Ajaokuta Railway line must be functional
Blast Furnace operational
All three are not functional, so its clear Nigeria cannot make steel in Ajaokuta. Nothing however stops a corrupt government official from importing billets and running them in the rolling mills to deceive tax payers. So, when anyone tells you Ajaokuta will soon work ask them, can a steel plant work without NIOMCO, railways and a blast furnace?

All is not gloom, Kayode Fayemi as Minister was able to secure an out of court about Ajaokuta, we must build on this

In closing, Ajaokuta is the only steel plant in the world built by the USSR, sold to Americans, then to Indians, all these teams have come and gone with their own technical style, there have even been accusations of asset stripping by the Indians.

So why this post? because I am a patriot, I will not sit by and watch scarce resources be wasted in a grand deceit. Probably some corrupt folks have told Mr President that Ajaokuta can produce economically viable steel if “small” dollars are spent. You can already see how the critical rail line delivery dates was moved back to ensure it is done in time for 2019 elections, yet it is still in design stage. Ajaokuta is Nigeria and probably Africa biggest failure. It has failed. Can it be made to work yes but the cost to integrate Ajaokuta with her mines and rails can be used to build new smaller modern turn key functional steel mills. The government should get out of Ajaokuta, sell the place and allows the private sector capital and expertise restructure and own it.

If you want to make jollof rice and there is no rice the solution is not to keep boiling water without rice but to go and get rice.
Quite informative

Prohibited to you [for marriage] are your mothers, your daughters,
your sisters, your father's sisters, your mother's sisters, your
brother's daughters, your sister's daughters, your [milk] mothers
who nursed you, your sisters through nursing, your wives'
mothers, and your step-daughters under your guardianship [born]
of your wives unto whom you have gone in. But if you have not
gone in unto them, there is no sin upon you. And [also prohibited
are] the wives of your sons who are from your [own] loins, and
that you take [in marriage] two sisters simultaneously, except for
what has already occurred. Indeed, Allah is ever Forgiving and
Merciful.
Surat An-Nisā' Aya 22-23.
Allah prohibited 14 classes of women, 7 due to blood relationship, and
7 for others.
Those because of blood relationship are:
Mothers: every female ancestor for you no matter how high her
level is (note that she might on the side of your father too, for
example, your father's mother).
Daughters: every female descendant of you no matter how low
her level is (again, note that she might be on the side of your
son, for example, your son's daughter).
Sisters: every female that share you your father or mather (or
both of them).
Aunts: both
Sisters of every male ancestor for you (even on the side of
your mother, such as the sister of your mother's father),
and
Sisters of every female ancestor for you (even on the side
of your father, such as the sister of your father's mother).
Nieces: every female descendant of your brothers and sisters, no
matter how low her level is (this count 2 out of 7). This
completes the list of women prohibited because of blood
relationship.
Now we come to those prohibited because of milk relationship
(breastfeeding), there is a basic hadith here:
The Prophet said about Hamza's daughter, "I am not legally
permitted to marry her, as foster relations are treated like blood
relations (in marital affairs). She is the daughter of my foster
brother."
Sahih al-Bukhari 2645 (with many, many other riwayat [versions] ).
And, depending on that hadith, there is a basic rule in Shariaa:
ﻳﺤﺮﻡ ﻣﻦ ﺍﻟﺮﺿﺎﻉ ﻣﺎ ﻳﺤﺮﻡ ﻣﻦ ﺍﻟﻨﺴﺐ
What's prohibited (for marriage) because of milk relationship are
the same as what's prohibited because of blood relationship.
Other translation: Marriage prohibition because of milk
relationship is similar to marriage prohibition because of blood
relationship.
Now if a woman breastfeeds a boy, then she is considered (in marital
affairs) as his own mother, and blood-relationship prohibition rules are
applied with all of her family. And the husband of this woman at the
time she breastfed the boy is considered (in marital affairs) as his
own father, and (again) blood-relationship prohibition rules are applied
with all of his family.
Also milk sisters are prohibited, they're every female breastfed by
your (blood) mother or your mother in law (your father's wife). And
she is considered (in maritial affairs) as your own sister.
But , the amount of breastfeeding that makes these rules applied is
not the same for all scholars, and I'm not going to explain this now.
(general speaking two pleasing breadfeeds are enough to make these
rules applied).
Now we come to those prohibited because of affinity, they're:
Wife's mothers: every female ancestor of the wife. And they
become prohibited just if the marriage contract is made (even
before any intercourse).
Wife's daughters: every female descendant of man's wife from
another husband. At the condition of making an intercourse with
this wife, i.e, marriage contract is not enough to prohibit these
daughters, an intercourse is needed to make the prohibition
applied.
Daughters in law: the wife of any male descendant, no matter
how low her level is.
Milk Sons' wives: wives of man's milk sons (the rule of milk
prohibition applies here).
Mother in law: the wife of any male ancestor, no matter how
high his level is. Also these three classes have some differences
in scholars' views, in affairs of intercourse or just marriage
contract... etc. But again, I'm not going to discuss these now.
Sisters of current wives: a man is not allowed to marry two
sisters at the same time, if he marry a woman, then all of her
sisters are temporarily prohibited for him. If she die, or they
divorce, then her sisters become un-prohibited for him, he can
marry any of them (after the divorce period ﻋﺪﺓ of the wife is
over).
And finally, of course he can't marry a married woman! if she divorce,
then he can marry her after her divorce period ﻋﺪﺓ is over.
Sources: Tafseer Al Qurtubi, Ahkam Al-Quran by Ibn Arabi, and
Ahkam Al-Quran by Alkia Alharrasi (may Allah be merciful to them
all). Especially Tafseer Al Qurtubi 5 [105-134].
P.S: this is not a complete list or explanation, for example, I've not
mentioned prohibited slave females (because there is no slavery
anymore, thank Allah, and because they're very few), and I haven't
mentioned some rare cases. If I want to explain and take care of
every case and scholar view, this post could run into pages (full of
information not interesting for everybody).
5 Just a note: Slavery still exists in present days. Quoting from
Wikipedia : " There are more slaves today than at any point in
history, remaining as high as 12 million to 27 million. " Muslim
people (e.g. in Sudan and Mauritania) are suffering from this

highpriestess:
why speaking with both sides of the mouth, from your understanding the title emir is good because of your inferiority complex, why don't you advocate for the abolishment of all the oba title in Yoruba and attach them with emir.

You are comparing yourself to north, really?thought you are sophisticated?
From all your previous discussions on this thread, all I see hatred for Yoruba Muslims and you're also trying to excite the Yorubas (Christians & Muslims) against themselves... I can also deduce that you're not Yoruba, neither are you a Muslim. Why are you so pained about a matter that doesn't concern you? Don't bring the disunity in your region to Yoruba land because it won't work, by the Grace of GOD
RomanceRe: Dear Single Ladies! Know Your Worth. by Akious2k2(m): 6:45pm On Apr 12, 2018

.
That awkward moment you realize that 90% of your mates are getting married and here you are still waiting.
Pressure is mounting internally and externally,
You celebrate your 27+ birthday and boom the tension is brewing.
Relax your nerves.

Sometimes it's not easy being single,
Majority want to get married,
Have someone they can call their own,
Have an active sex life,
Have some cute lovely kids
Go out on shopping with them.
Or maybe all you want now is just relationship.

All these are lovely but don't allow them push you ending up with the wrong person due to pressure.

For yet to marry ladies!
Know your worth,
Don't allow him turn you into a intimacy gadget because you are hoping for the engagement ring,
Don't allow him turn you into a punching bag because of engagement ring,
If you don't like him, never say YES to his proposal,
Don't say yes to someone you have no feelings for.
It's boring, you can't be comfortable with him.
I am shocked seeing what some ladies go through in a race to get married,
Some are now desperate,
Some are being duped by all these criminals in the name of prayers.

They are ready to do anything now.
"I am ready to marry anyone as far as its a man" -that's their anthem, so cheap!

Or maybe you are just in a relationship with him and marriage is not your priority,
If he is not respecting and loving you the way you want and deserve,
Please walk out of the relationship!
If you are not interested in premarital sex life with him,
Don't bow to pressure, walk out of the relationship.
If you are not seeing the worth of continuing in that relationship with him, plz walk out of it.

Your marital status does not and should not determine your worth.
Look at yourself in the mirror and see how beautiful and wonderful you are,
Look again and see a queen staring back at you.

Getting married should not be the only goal in your life,
Focus your mind on improving your career,
Growing that your business,
If you are a graduate, then you focus on your post graduate program,
Getting a new skill and opening a venture with it.

At the right time, if fate decides in your favour, your king will come if that's your dream.
Remember it's better to marry late to the right person than to marry early to the wrong person.

.......
You are special and the best.
You deserve nothing less,
You are a queen.
Don't allow the pressure get to you.

Thanks swerries. kiss kiss

mrfarmer600:
as we all came on board in the big ship, the rescue teams inside the ship searched each and everyone of us if we were with drugs or weapons and we were all giving a hand band which signify the conditions of our state before they found us, and the band had numbers on it and we seated in groups the way we where rescued.
we were giving some kind of plastic nylon, the type that is used to wrap valentine gift to cover because it became cold and windy latter at night, we also saw the first set of group that left us, and there boat was almost in the point of sinking before rescue found them
we meant people also from other part of african country inside, the ship was filled with all of us who were illegal migrants.
some people where being take inside a room in the ship for questioning so to identify the driver of the boats and the assistant, mean while before we saw rescue an helicopter came to snap pictures of us, so they already new the people they were looking for.
after the investigation the driver and the assistant where separated from the rest of us, then they shared bread, fruit juice, and apples to all of us.
and at 1am in the night the meditarranean sea showed his real colour to us, and i saw for myself how it feels like to be in a ship when the sea was bad, it was just unbelievable how the sea waves was waving the big ship not to talk of the boat we were in, then i told to myself thank God rescue found us.
we spent three days on the big ship before we finally arrived in palermo the capital of italian island in sicily on sunday afternoon.
the italian immigration police, cameras and journalist were waiting for us to come down, but before we came down from the ship, doctors came into the ship and check our body for any infections and one dead body that was recovered by the rescue team was taken away.
as we came down from the ship we were given robber sanders to wear and our names and ages taken by the immigration officers before we entered a bus that took everyone to different camps.

well to end this story i would like to add what i think about all of this journey i did

1) coming into europe as an illegal migrants is a bad move

2) europe was not what my life that i put on the line, all do everyone has his or her own opinion about it.

3) everything is hard as a migrant, we a left to do cheap works for them or beg for money, for the girls i wont say anything cause you already know.
and some people would ask why did you not change to another europian county if you did not get you document in italy, well even if you did go and succeed to enter the next country be sure of you asylum application coming out negative cause the rules consigning migration has changed.
i wish to go back to my mothers land nigeria where i dont feel or see racism or trying to blend in all the time.

i just hope this changes somebodys life in any way, and if you ever want to travel out of nigeria make sure you take a flight to any of the country you wish to go, that way things will be easier for you there.

thanks for reading to the end and may god protect us from the hand of the wicked ones.........................THE END
The question now is: Are you back in Nigeria?

Roughly about a yr ago, I did an elaborate introduction/engagement with the love of my life. Just 2 months to wedding and registry, she cancelled the wedding saying she felt I am not buoyant enough to give her d life she wanted. She wants to be going to Dubai to buy goods and stuff like that. Her mom told me, its her life she cannot force her into marriage. I carried my cross, after all shit happens. Since then she has been keeping in touch, just to say hi, hello, etc...
Fast forward to about a week ago, she called me she would like us to talk but I've been busy. I got home yesterday and I met her in my home! ( I have not changed my locks and she didn't return my keys).. I wanted to send her out but it was quite late so I let her stay for d night.
She did not allow me to sleep with cries and drama. She told me she just realised her mistakes, blah blah blah.. When it was abt 3am, I had to tell her I will pray/think about it so I can sleep in peace.
The prob is I have forgiven her months ago, I don't take things too difficult. But, I don't think I can marry someone I don't trust enough that won't dump me when things become though. No one knows what future will bring. Though I still very much like her!...
Pls I need people's opinions
Try to investigate if she was actually going to Dubai for the business she told you about... Just try to know how much she lied, if at all, to you... Then you can take it from there... Either to let her go or not
