See the word SHAME boldly written on the forehead of our leaders. Our situation is highly disgraceful. |
Most Nigerian leaders are very immature in both their private and public conducts. Some of the ingredients of good leadership are maturity, integrity, professionalism and promptness of action but these qualities are lacking in the country's leadership. This may explain why progress and development have eluded our nation. |
Most of nigeria's political leaders dont know how to address important public issues. To them everything is personal and their talk is usually about self and not about the entity they serve. Same for the public service workers. |
Menace2Society:Religion is a big part of african problem, especially nigeria. It has been proven that religion and poverty are two fingers of a leprous hand. The higher the practice of religion, the higher the poverty in the land. |
All those greetings are nothing but hypocrisy because they are from the tip of the tongue and not from the mind. Immediately after the greetings, they start to discuss and disdain you. And dont be deceived by the greetings from the church ushers too, they were trained by the pastors to do so in order to keep you coming back with the tithe and offering and not because " jesus loves you" |
There are many lazy readers on nairaland. Some that managed to read did not fully understand. The lawmakers' tenure is not expiring on may 29. Imagine if the new government removes the hoodlums from the assembly and the IG provides escorts for the 19 lawmakers on June 1st to resume their duty. A lot could happen within five days. Ondo deputy governor was removed within 24 hours. |
franconian:Thanks. I will remind you of the fuel when it becomes available. |
This portrait just confirmed my position that leaders who wear suit for official engagements appear clean, serious and ready for work unlike when they put on that heavy native attires uder the guise of observing some obsolete culture and tradition. Nigerian leaders must be encouraged to display certain standard of outlook or appearance during official functions. |
A portrait with suit would not be a bad idea afterall. Culture and official appearance are 2 different things. In the name of culture and tradition our leaders are made to appear dull, lazy and 'not prepared for work' when they put on most of our native attires. I have seen some African heads of state dress and appear very smart. Nigerians should stop regarding wearing of suit as a western style but as a universal standard style of official dressing. It can boost the image of the country and of its leaders. |
Countries are not governed by prayers but by hardwork, patriotism and love for the governed. I hate to hear nigerian politicians , pastors, imams, marabouts, traditional rulers and others asking Nigerians to pray and fast for our leaders when all they do is to loot the country dry in collusion with the religious leaders. I think Nigerians are now wiser and have come to realise that there in no substitute for honesty, integrity, hardwork and patriotism. Afterall the holy book says work and pray ; not pray and pray as the latter will only bring failures, the hallmark of the outgoing government. Finally, the Islamic holy book says " tie your camel first, then put your trust in God and give regards to WORLDLY CAUSES ". In this sense, worldly causes are : initiative, personal responsibility, ownership of your life, securing your assets, belief in higher power and watching out for your neighbor. Nigerians should get real and stop living a life of illusions. |
I hate to hear political leaders giving prominence to prayers in the church and mosque instead of doing hard work . Of what national importance is the prayer programme when the country is on fire as a result of the ineptitude of the outgoing government? It is this same 'prayer' that has been used by politicians, pastors , immans, marabouts, traditional rulers and others to dupe nigerians. I dont think sensible nigerians should again fall for their 'prayer-trap' . Enough of this nonsense. We must begin to do hard work instead of plenty prayers because the former is what a country needs to prosper and not the latter. |
When Nigerians began to challenge the political class and openly criticise them , things began to change in the political equation of the country. But most nigerians are either slow or afraid to openly criticise the religious class despite their known excesses, reckless arrogance and seemingly criminal alliance with the politicians to debase the country because people think doing so will lead them to hell fire. Most nigerians are already living in 'hell' on earth and should therefore not worry about the possible consequence of rising agaist the menace of the wicked religious class. Pastors, immans , marabouts and others have contributed in great measure to the malady in nigeria. |
baybeeboi:Whatever a man can do, a woman can do it better. |
Most nigerian universities and colleges are no longer fit to be called institutions of higher learning while most of their students and products can no longer be counted amongst the educated. Very very sad that many of them are on nairaland and by their posts, you shall easily know them. |
omenka:I dont want to presume you are just noticing the 'juvenile deliquency' on this forum! It has always been like that. They are so many and all they do is attack constructive opinions and most times make jokes out of them because they lack the necessary skill for constructive engagement. They are lazy in doing almost everything, including thinking, reading and understanding .Very sorry for nigerian youths, |
Orikinla:So far we on the same page . What nigeria has in much abundance is ignorance followed closely by poverty. All other problems are derivatives of these two but most of us dont see it that way. Majority of nigerians hate to seek new knowledge but prefer sticking to what they knew already, not minding whether it is right or wrong. And dont invest too much time in trying to change their position, they are very comfortable with it. |
I have a lot of reservations about how our political leaders dress for official engagements. It is not smart and sometimes depict unseriousness and unreadiness. |
From reading the posts above me, i can see that there are many on nairaland who dont think before they type. Because they lack critical reasoning, every issue is turned to jokes or abuses. Am sorry for nigerians, especially the youths. |
Orikinla:I cannot agree less. My concern here is that we dont have many people on this forum who understand what you and i are talking about. I just feel sorry for nigerians, especially the youths. However, your impression about muslims being warned by parents not to marry people of the other faiths is not limited to muslims. Many christians, especially the pentecostal group believe that whoever is not a christian may go to hell because they are not "born again". When a muslim invites a "born again" christian to an islamic programme in the mosque, he hardy attends but muslims are more liberal in this sense as they fellowship with christians in their activities and sometimes attend vigils. In my opinion, the best way to look at this menace is to critically review religion as a whole and see where it offends our sensibilities and how it has contributed to the backwardness of our society. My position on this topic is propelled by my having been a devout muslim and a devout christian at different times. |
Majority of nigerians are afraid and unwilling to discuss religion and religious leaders because they believe doing so will lead them to "hell". Religion is a big part of the corruption in nigeria which in turn is responsible for the devastating poverty in the country. Anyone who wishes to see a reduction in poverty and corruption must freely and fearlessly challenge the causes of these two monsters that have destroyed the fabric of the society. Nigerians must wake up to take their destinies in their hands and not in the hands of a few psychophants parrading themselves as "annointed" |
Orikinla:I agree with you that majority of Nigerians are intellectually backward but am reluctant to believe that it has anything to do with tribe and ethnicity. I have always felt sorry for our people because of their retrogressive ways of thinking and acting, especially the youths. The reasons for this intellectual deficiency can be traced to some or all of the following : 1. Our culture and traditions 2. Many proverbs in the south west that discourage hardwork but promote laziness such as (1) ise ko lowo (2) kita kira o dola (3) aro ti ko le rin , o n rale, o nkole (4) mi o le wa ku , etc. 3. Lack of the spirit of excellence ( our heads gets swollen with very little achievement) 4.Religion and religious leaders ( God is able to do all things for you with prayers, not hardwork) 5. Fear and aparthy ( nigerians are afraid to ask questions on important issues but easily resign to fate) 6. Lazy attitude of the youths towards reading and research 7. Weak government and institutions. You way wish to refer to my profile and previous posts on this subject. |
This monotonous song is nauseating. I think nigeria has gone past that depressing stage and now ready for better things. Most Nigerians are not fools. |
Fayose stopped closing his eyes while sleeping since March 28. Same for most of the sychophants. Days of reckoning are near. |
[quote author=tobtap post=33935025]GEJ cabinet is the most mediocre [/quoteTheir style of government is called kakistocracy and not democracy but many people did not know this. |
It is the ambition of one person to remain in office by all means that has brought this calamity on the pdp and the entire nation. Future leaders must learn a lesson from this. |
CR77:I think something is not right about this action of the govenment. A university is supposed to be an institution of higher learning that has more than one faculty. Once it is a 'one-faculty' institution it is called a college. So a college that produces only teachers cannot be rightly named a university unless more faculties are being added. |
Religious extemism is not limited to islam. Am not in anyway defending the criminal activities of the group but just thinking that the government needs to stand up and address the issue of religion generally in nigeria without fear or favor. It is a problem that must be confronted with all the powers available to the state. There is too much recklessness and criminality going on in all the religious faiths that need to be confronted headlong in the overall interest of the nation. |
Our society teaches laziness and discourages hard work to get rich. In yorubaland there are certain proverbs and 'wise sayings' like (1) ise ko lowo (2) ka sise bi eru ko da nkan (3) kita kira ko dola (4) aro ti o lese , o n rale , o n kole (5) ise kekere owo nla (6) eniti ko mo ibi ti egbe e ti la, o maa sare ku ni; and many others. These are things yoruba still say and believe in the 21st century and this philosophy has done irreparable damage to the psyche of many and driven them to imbibe the culture of laziness instead of productive hard work, and the mentality of getting rich by all means. Go to our pastors and the story is not different. They tell their 'customers' that the surest way to breakthrough is the payment of tithes. Even the jobless is expected to pay it as that would make him attract favour and riches. The summary is that the nigerian society is upside down and there is need for quick intervention , not from God, but from the government. |
I think it is high time our authorities started doing something about these criminal pastors and their cronies because they are really battering the image of this country. In the home front their operations should be brought under strict legal regulations to at least bring back some dignity to christendom. |
Some posters here described him as a conservative Christian. I dont think Christianity should be a credential or an achievement. Afterall, most of the Nigerians and politicians who have committed various crimes and looted our treasury dry are acclaimed "good" Christians and Muslims. Congratulations to Femi Adesina. |
Lilimax:Fallacy. That is why the politicians and pastors find it easy to deceive and manipulate Nigerians. |
tchidi:Who has confirmed to us that God forgave him. The bible says that God frowns at the crime of murder. It is the arrogantly wicked religious leaders that made us understand that whenever you ask for forgiveness , it is automatically granted. Where is restitution ? The reason why a person will commit a heinous crime and come back later as a saint is because the nigerian system is very weak and religion has taken over the common sense of many. |
