The way our public officials dress does not show seriously on the job. Flowing and heavy dresses should be for social functions. Let us borrow a leaf from fashola's style. |

MaxNaija: Lagos—The Lagos State government yesterday said at least 24 religious outfits were shut in year 2014 for contravening the State guidelines on noise pollution.
The state government further said the new Material Recovery Facility, would be established to capture the huge waste generated daily and boost the Waste-to-wealth programme in the state.
Commissioner for Environment, Mr. Tunji Bello and General Manager of the Lagos State Environment Protection, LASEPA, Mr Ademola Shabi, an engineer, disclosed this at the 2015 ministerial press briefing held in Alausa Secretariat, Ikeja.
Shabi reeling out the activities of his agency in the year under review added that 13 industries were shut for violating the environmental guidelines set by the government.
He lamented that the pollution generated daily in the state was increasing and the government must embark on measures to reduce it, adding; “We received over 1, 000 petitions in the year under review. But we have been able to resolve some and some have relocated.”
According to him, “We have shut about 24 religious outfits in the last one year because they failed to adhere to the state guidelines on noise pollution.” The general manager explained that these religious outfits contribute “the religious outfits contribute about 50 percent of the noise pollution in the state. In the last few years, we have been having problem to control noise from these outfits. We have been able to shut them down while some have relocated from the community where they were.
In the city where i live , there are more churches/ mosques than commercial/ industrial outfits. That usually have correlation with poverty levels. Anyway, the government of ogun state must do something urgent to confront noise pollution. Worship centres in this state are too reckless with the use of loud speakers.

Why hasn't there been a Nobel Prize winning scientist on the Black side of Africa?
Are we saying that we have no such geniuses?
Why do we tend to lean towards seemingly "se..xier" and right brained paths to glory: i.e. arts, movies, business?
Is this a root problem for Africans? A natural aversion to challenging the status quo and generally unscientific minds?
Correct me if I am wrong - can anyone name foremost Black AFRICAN names in the sciences. Nigerians, Ghanaians, Kenyans, etc? Consciousness for science is supposed to be introduced at early stage of life, maybe during elementary education. But with the nigerian style of education I doubt if this will happen soon. Religion, culture and tradition are the other factors working against science-based critical thinking in nigeria. Any society that believes that " with god all things are possible" will hardly think outside its box of myopicism. Nigeria should begin to discard all phenomena that promote lazy or shallow thinking and conclusions at the expense of scientific knowledge and endeavours. Finally , corporate organisations should sponsor less of musical/entertainment/social competitions and promote science oriented events in schools as this will bring more dividends to our country in future. |

I refuse to agree with any person who envisages disappointment from buhari's government. Pastors and prophets should keep quiet for now as their opinion is not very important in governance. They should for now concentrate on milking the sheep in their fold, make cheap wealth, and leave politics to the practitioners. In short there is too much recklessness in the clergy . May be there is need for religious and traditional leaders' public conduct and utterances to be more regulated in nigeria. I have no problem with objective opinions but anticipatory and emotional critism is condemnable. |

This is a topic that may not attract the attention of many of us before now. It has to do with how our public officials in all arms of government in both federal and states dress to their job and to official engagements. Though we have nigerian traditions and cultures which many would believe should dictate their dressing, but i think most of those heavy and expensive dressings are more appropriate for social-cultural events. Except for officials of some black nations, most government officials and representatives worldwide do appear in public smart and ready for work unlike what you see amongst nigerian officials. Some years back, lagos state introduced something like this for its civil servants and it was highly commended. Go to lasg secretariat and you will be impressed how smart the workers there dress to work. This is not so in abuja and other states and local govenments. How long will it take nigerians to change old habits that inhibit efficiency and productivity in our public service ? |

kennydee05: Suleiman Hashimu, will no doubt enter the Guiness Book of Record as the first man to trek from Lagos to Abuja.
‘The Traveller,’ as he is now been called, had vowed to walk from Lagos to Abuja if Muhammadu Buhari won the 2015 presidential election.
Hashimu arrived Abuja yesterday evening after trekking for over three weeks.
Hashimu, a native of Katsina State, said he was in Lagos when Buhari was announced the president-elect of Nigeria, so he left Lagos at about 5am the next day and arrived in Ibadan around 6pm.
Narrating his ordeal to newsmen upon his arrival in Abuja, Hashimu said he had gone to get a police report at Ibadan to allow for an unimpeded journey, but that as he could not wait for the processes to be completed, the divisional police officer (DPO) gave him his phone number.
The journey man said when he first embarked on the journey, many persons discouraged him, especially family members but he never gave up.
He told journalists that in Ilorin, people accompanied him for several miles until he stopped at Oloru, where he received much hospitality in Jebba. He said unlike other villages, he met people who had heard of him.
He further explained that about 20 people set off with him from Jebba and after some miles, 18 turned back, but the other two were more strong-minded and followed him.
The Traveller narrated how they encountered armed robbers close to Mokwa, but that, fortunately, he had already met one of them in Jebba and the would-be robber ended up giving him N200 for ‘pure’ (sachet) water.
Hashimu said he continued his trip from Mokwa to Kudu, then from Kutigi to Bida, and then to Suleja, after which arrived in Abuja yesterday.
Upon his arrival in Abuja on Monday, many residents were already waiting to receive him.
When residents of FCT saw him, the chorus of Sai Buhari rented the air.
Unconfirmed report said a top politician had already paid for a room in Transcorp Hilton where he would lodge. Source: http://dailypost.ng/2015/04/21/robbers-gave-me-n200-pure-water-on-the-road-man-who-trekked-from-lagos-to-abuja/ The accounts of the trekker do not add up. It doesn't make much sense to a critical mind. Anyway, nigerians as usual will believe just anything without objective assesment or practical analysis. |

Why is almost everybody calling God to help find the little girl instead of urging the police to swing into action and asking the public for cooperation? Why do Nigerians like insulting God by asking him to come and perform the task meant for humans? God appears when human efforts have failed. We lack the capacity to THINK, so we explain away every circumstance as Spiritual. You spoke my mind. I believe in God and the ability of humans to use their brains to achieve excellence in whatever they wish to. But while the whites are using their brain to do exploits for mankind, blacks (especially nigerians) are so lazy to use the brain to full capacity. All we say is that God is able to do all things for men. And when nigerians fail, they blame it on the enemy or the devil. Religion, culture and tradition have done a lot of damage to the thinking capacity of many blacks. We must wake up and embrace critical thinking and science to reduce our dependence on culture and tradition which are part of the bane of our society. |

The day nigerians become bold to talk critically about religion and religious leaders, great things will start to happen. Just like corruption, poverty, insecurity etc, the best way to solve a problem is to subject it to critical public discourse as it is being done in civilized societies. As long as most of us are not willing or afraid to talk openly and objectively about our leaders ( be it political, traditional or religious leaders) the menace of reckless impunity will remain deep rooted in our society and may eventually slow down our growth and development as a nation. Or is it a case of " touch not my anointed "? Nigerians, wake up now from your slumber. |

God is a spirit and relates with humans as such. The deaf and dumb do make requests to God in prayers and God answers them according to HIS WILL. God is omnipresent, omniscience, omnipotent and omnibenevolent. Jesus confirmed that whatever you ask from God in prayers, believe it will be done but with a caveat: only if your request is in agreement with God's plan for you. So what is the need for endless noisy prayers? I think long prayers was a tool devised by modern day fraudulent pastors to enslave, deceive, confuse and exploit their congregation for their own selfish purposes. Many are perished because they lack knowledge, so says the lord of hosts. |

Whenever Nigerians fail in anything either due to laziness , omission, commission , or negligence....., they are quick to ascribe their failure to something else. Most of the time it is either the devil (esu ) or their "enemy" that caused it. I think our culture and tradition is a culprit in this regard. We hardly try to do self-assesment and self- critique. The problems of nigerians started with our leaders and was well complimented by our lazy attitude of finding easy ways out of life challenges or avoiding to fight now to live another day. Finally, our attitude must change if nigeria must continue in the path of greatness, as we have just started with the result of the recent elections. |
