There is too much bitterness among leaders and citizens of this country. It is like everybody is ballooned and ready to burst at the slightest touch or provocation. Nairaland is not an exception as posters are aways willing to vent anger on whoever expresses any opinion different from theirs. Nigeria still has a long way to go. It is more particularly pitiful for the youths who condemn the attitude and conduct of the older and also exhibit hate and bitterness in their own conduct. |
hahn:I agree with you but am not sure our govenment is ready to bell the cat. |
Mynd44:One thing nigeria has in abundance is ignorance, followed closely by poverty. Nigerian leaders (be it political, traditional or religious) must learn how to carefully choose words spoken in public as done by their counterparts in the civilised world. The position of leaders is that of high responsibility and that ingredient must be seen in their public utterances. In other climes, there are consequences for unguarded public utterances, regadless of who is involved. |
coreseam:Thanks. If I knew what to do to awaken the government, i would have done it. This madness must stop. For how long shall we continue failing to address a problem that affects millions of our people. From Lagos to Ibadan, left and right, front and back, all you see are religious fields, camps and churches instead of farms, factories, plantations, low cost housing estates that should give employment and comfort to nigerians. |
MzCorleone:And somebody in nigeria also named his twins hollywood and nollywood !!! |
fashoo2010:It has been annoying and ridiculous from the begining of the madness. |
What about the mega churches and other religious centres in ogun state. They have the lowest cost of operation and make much more income than these industrial oganisations without giving benefits in terms of employment and taxes to the state. They occupy more acreage of land, disturb public peace with provocative noise, scam the gullibe , promote affluence and arrogance, encourage fake expectations, and enjoy undue protection from the nigerian system at the expense of general populace. Something has to be done urgently to address this injustice because there is no justifiable reasons why the productive sector should enjoy less protection compared to the unproductive but highly profitable and arrogant religious sector. This scenario is partly responsible for why there is high unemployment in the country. |
Most Nigerians are lazy when it comes to reading and doing research. Tell a typical Nigerian a factual information he had not heard before, his first spontaneous reaction is " na lie, it cannot be true". This lazy and unprogressive attitude is working against us in many ways and it is not healthy for intellectual development. We, especially the youths must change from the ways of our forefathers who were unable to research and document many things that would have become useful to us today. I never meant to insult anyone. |
Forgiveness cannot be effectual without acceptable restitution. The concened individuals should do the needful. After Judas Iscariot repented, he returned the crime money before commiting suicide. The disciples forgave him and the rest is history. |
This happened because of the ineffectiveness of our enviromental planning laws and the docility of the implimentors. In nigeria, religion has been allowed to fester, often times criminally. Many buildings being used for religious activities were not originally meant for that purpse and the result is what we see now here and there. Apart from collapsed buildings , what about the provacative noise made on daily basis by these worshippers and which have the tendency of ultimately compromising and jeopardising the health of the people. This widespread madness must stop now. |
From strictly economic and development perspective, i think we should review the way nigeria has positioned churches and other religious organisations in this country towards making them more physically productive and useful to the society in which they operate. In writing this short piece , i have put asside all prejudices and have interrogated the issue from a purely patriotic angle. As it stands today, churches, mosques and others are exempted from taxes because they are regarded as charities. However, many of these organisations are engaged in commercal activies there are embedded in their open operations. Churches, especially the Megas are involved in education, printing, bakeries, etc and these outfits are doing well because there are more than enough resources, human and financial, to efficiently manage them. For these mega churches and others to be more physically useful as a responsible corporate entities in the country, i am thinking that they should be made to invest in some or all of the following areas of economic activities: 1. Establishment of micro credit schemes. Because unemployment is rife in the country , it will do us a lot of good if mega churches can organise their members into easily identified groups and make 'business loans' to them with 2% to 5 % maximum annual interest to them. Such goans shoudh not be tied to collateral but guaranteed within the groups established. Such loans should range from N100,000 to N500,000 per loanee and be repayable in a maximum of 2 years. 2. Setting up of Farm Settlements. In nigeria, land is a large resource. These organisations can set up farm settlements for mechanised arable farming of food crops and agro processing, poultry, piggery, fishery and so on. In the same manner, the members of these churches can be employed and paid good salaries. 3. Provision of Low Cost Housing. This is also a possibility and would go a long way in relieving the stress put on nigeria by the quest for land and the attendant problems. It will also help reduce the huge housing deficit in the country. I will stop here for now. If you have other suggestions, please add. |
mbulela:I hate to respond to quotes on this forum. However, those who post hate messages on nairaland are not political elites and jobbers but regular nigerians. |
There is too much hate among the different groups in nigeria. There is also this ugly attitude of nigerians talking just anyhow in public without minding the deep implications of words used. In civilised countries, citizens chose words spoken carefully because there are consequences for libel , slander and unguarded public utterances against constituted authorities. If we nigerian elders got it wrong, i think the youths should begin to do it right for our collective good. |
Fayose has an axe to grind with posperity and reality. We are waiting and watching. |
I have always wondered why most christians put emphasis on preaching the 'words of God' rather than doing the works of the Lord Jesus Christ as commanded by him. What is the benefit of any word that is not translated to action. Jesus preached love which is the summation of all laws. This same love has been lost in the body of Christ and in all present day religious faiths. What they all preach and teach now are ' words of men" that center around money, wealth, power, ego, noise making, loud speaking, music, dance, fashion and all other things of the world. I doubt if Jesus will find one faithful christian on his second coming. My advice to anyone who desires to truly serve God is to quickly do so by dissociating himself from churches and mosques and develop a direct relationship with the Almighty, This should be an individual responsibility rather than collective. I have said my own and it is not late to find the true God of Abraham, of Isaac and of Jacob. |
There is no good reason why any right thinking person should live his life according to the preachings of today's pastors which are most times in contrary to the scriptures but made to satisfy their greed, wickedness and domination. Such religious leaders are a big part of nigeria's problems. Shame on them. |
This is first class madness. It deserves total condemnation. |
There is nothing special about church, mosque or any religion for that matter these days. It is only in nigeria and in some other poor nations that religion is still revered. Even the pastors and other religious leaders know that religion is no more about God but simply about the world. But they have all chosen to play their last card of destruction while carrying with them as many followers as they can into peril. |
Ghost01:For where ? Corruption, greed ,selfishness and hate would never allow them to conceive such beautiful ideas talkless of putting it on paper. |
Inasmuch as i don't support death penalty for corruption, i believe Nigeria will be better off if much of the loot is recovered and the indicted are jailed according to the ratio of money stolen to amount restituted. |
It is a great pity what ekiti state has been turned to in such a short period of time. The state used to be an envy for top class politicians in nigeria from the first republic till recently. |
Indiscipline is deep rooted in the nigerian culture and somebody must stop it before it consumes the entire society. It is rife in every area of our lives and many are tired of talking or writing about it. Look at peoples' homes, offices, workshops, neighborhoods, churches, mosques, relationships, and the story is the same everywhere in nigeria. The only time we had an attempt at confronting this anomaly was in 1984/1985. The little gains of that period has been lost and forgotten over time. Very shameful. |
It is a culture in nigeria, especially in the south west for people to abuse and curse each other either intentionally or otherwise. The society has been blind to this ugly practice for a long time and nobody was interested in working to reduce or stop it. If you are unfortunate to watch some yoruba nollywood movies, you'll be amazed how this culture of 'abuse and curse' is highly promoted and celebrated. It is not limited to the females. Boys, guys and old men are also involved in this dirty and appalling conduct. There is need for the decent few to educate this morally corrupt group. |
ijustdey:Every government organization in Nigeria stinks heavily of corruption. They all need urgent sanitation. |
Jxluax:How do you quickly remember that ? You must be a good historian. Thanks for reminding us of the origin of 'fake products and fake manufacturers' in nigeria. Nigerians must wake up and wise up before it is too late. |
Borrussia:Please be decent for once on this forum. |
Nigeria is moving nowhere as long as people continue to think in terms of 'spirit', demon, prayer, enemies and so on. Pastors, prophets, clergy, clerics, marabouts, or by whatever names they are called; are a big part of nigeria's problems. Progressive minds in the country must rise up to confront them if this country must prosper. |
abbeycial:Nigerians can judge better in the case of proven criminals. Let us live God of it . He is the god of both the criminal and the righteous. Americans, Europeans,Chinese,Indonesians ,etc don't wait for God to judge criminals and that is why they have relatively better societies. |
Instead of creating an enviroment that encouraged job creation, governors were building stadiums and other white elephant projects that had immediate benefits only to them and their cronies. So where is the sweat of the worker now ? Shame. |
efilefun:Thanks. Prayer is a spiritual weapon but many nigerians have refused to understand. I have even heard governors and presidents say that nigerians should pray for physical national problems to be solved. I make bold to say that using prayer to address physical challenges will never yield desired results. Nigerian's must wake up to practical realities of life as demanded by current times. It is by doing this that we can move forward as a nation. |

I didn't expect any of the officers of the outgoing government to still be talking. They should stop rubbing salt into our national wound. |
