Please help rephrase this question and get the solution if possible. My aim is to place two bulbs in a room such that the point in the room with the least brightness as a result of the position of the two bulbs is maximized assuming both bulbs are of the same capacity and the illumination at any point is proportional to the sum of the squares of the distance from the point to the two bulbs. Let me put it this way: in rectangle ABCD with coordinates A(0,0), B(10,0), C(10,4), D(0,4), find the two points U(a,b) & V(c,d) inside the rectangle such that the point whose sum of squares of distance to U & V within the rectangle is the highest as a result of position of U & V will be minimized. Analytical, numerical, programming solution etc all welcomed |
Dhellake: Loic Remy have been a waste for me, I just hope he would come goodAs far as he is playing for QPR, I doubt if he'll be able to get much goals as he did last season with Newcastle. akpos4uall: I'm loving this your team especially the midfield except for Mata. I'll suggest you replace him with any of Andre Schurrle, Sterling or Silva.Che-eya. I was wrong. Mata just proved me wrong but what did he do in that match to earn 3 bonus points? |
Chuksemi: 3996, I did this mentally but not in 5 seconds though, I think in 15. I used the above process. I wish to know, is the above procedure a credible and reliable way for solving problems relating to multiplication? Does it apply to other numerals as well? I also did the other ones, I think division, the rules there are they reliable too? Please if this rules are credible. Please show me how to apply them to other numerals, I am really impressed. Thank you very much my OGABOSS.Of course it is reliable. Here is why; Check well; What he gave is true because 5*n = n*10/2 6*n = n*10/2 + n = 5n + n = 6n 25*n = n*100/4 |
mhuyil: Hi Guys,I'm loving this your team especially the midfield except for Mata. I'll suggest you replace him with any of Andre Schurrle, Sterling or Silva. |
ceeceeco: Other animals suffer? I doubt. Dnt 4get dat they dnt work 4 their food on like we humans that must work 2 survive. They always knw where, how, & wen 2 get their food. Nothing bothers dem, even if dem no work dem go chop, so hw do they suffer? God neva created dem 2 suffer, maybe we humans are the people making dem 2 suffer.Sweet lies. Some migrate for weeks/months all for food by land, water, air even ice just to survive. How is that different from what you & I do to survive. |
jayseehe: I'm not cursed, I don't believe in ChristianityThank you very much for this your answer/question. Let me put your question in a clearer way. I'll prefer to use the word "work" in place of suffer. According to the bible it is because of sin that man have to work for his belly but don't other creatures pass through similar experience? Don't the females of some creatures carry their baby for even longer period than human before giving birth to them? As for the serpent, is it because it doesn't have legs like most other crawling creatures hence it was pointed out as the culprit? What crime did the others commit to experience similar condition with man, woman & the serpent to survive? My conclusion; men like pointing fingers at others as the cause of everything |

lastpage: Just imagine the situation we have now whereby our national assets like NEPA were privatized and sold cheaply to our previous and current leaders (using fronts), these same leaders (who are now owners) appoint Regulators who are under their bidding, to monitor their own company which they set up to fleece Nigerians?You've said it all. This is the general problem in our country Nigeria. Every man in any position sees that as an opportunity to use his power to enslave those under him. In the case of PHCN, those in power are not foreigners but our brothers and sisters that have been opportuned to be there. Sincerely, if there is anything that deserves a nationwide strike, this PHCN way of operation is one. This is something that affects everyone but we take it for granted and the cycle continues. It is time to say enough is enough. |
Despite the fact that not up to 35% female participation has been achieved as promised, the few ones have been heavily criticized especially by the opposition. |

Snaaz: Correct quote...dates revolve...There are 365 days in a normal year which is 1(module 7). Mathematicians will know what am talking about. This means that the same date every year increases by one day. Christmas in 2014 will be thursday and 2015 will be friday. However there is a jump in leap years due to the extra day. That is why calenders alternatively take 6 and 11 years to repeat themselves. So there is nothing special about it and nobody needs to do a research to know this.Nice work mate. Can you give us an algorithm for this? |
ajasa4link: I just hope all this arsenal and Diego Costa rumors are for real o. Don't want arsene wenger to get our hopes high for nothing again oIn as much as I'll love to see Costa join Arsenal, I don't see that happening. Why will he want to leave his team when they're performing well plus the fact that he is a regular there & not a 2nd choice player? In addition to that, he has opted to play for spain national team at the WC instead of brazil. I just can't find any reason why he'll leave Athletico except maybe a pay rise. Abegi ignore the rumor jare. |
Where are the programmers on Nairaland? Can they give a code/illustration on how this cycle/loop works? Give answers to questions such as how long it takes for the cycle to start all over again, the longest/shortest consecutive number of years before it occurs? |
phapi: From this trash u typed above then it seem ur brain is still stagnant as it were in 1997In case you don't know, this occurs every year. There will always be a calendar year with days and dates (bla bla bla... you know what I mean) that are the same as the present, past & future. Hence its not like a once in a life time opportunity stuff. Nothing special jare |
^^^ Instead of those plenty plenty wahalai above for problem 3, we can just state that the (r + 1)th term in the expression (1 + x)n is nCr * xr Where r = 0, 1, 2, ... n nCr = n!/(r! * (n - r)!) :. The (r + 1)th term of x2n(1 + x-2)2n = 2nCr * x-2r * x2n = 2nCr * x2n - 2r From here we can arrive at the right answer as posted earlier. |
benbuks: new year questions .Problem 1 n(n + 1)(n + 2)...(n + k) 1 * 2 * 3 * ...(n - 1)(n)(n + 1)(n + 2)...(n + k)/(1 * 2 * 3 * ...(n - 1) (n + k)!/(n - 1)! Problem 2 12 * 22 * 32...n2 (1 * 1 * 2 * 2 * 3 * 3...n * n) (1 * 2 * 3...n)(1 * 2 * 3...n) n! * n! (n!)2 Problem 3 find the term independent of x in. [x + 1/x]^2n (x + 1/x)^2n = (x(1 + x-2))2n =x2n(1 + x-2)2n From the binomial expansion, (1 + x)n = 1 + nx + nC2 * x2 + nC3 * x3 + nC4 * x4... + nCn * xn Where nCr = n!/(r! * (n - r)!) :. x2n(1 + x-2)2n = x2n[1 + 2n(x-2) + 2nC2 * (x-2)2 + 2nC3 * (x-2)3 + 2nC4 * (x-2)4... + 2nC2n * (x-2)2n] = x2n[1 + 2n(x-2) + 2nC2 * x-4 + 2nC3 * x-6 + 2nC4 * x-8... + 2nC2n * x-4n] = x2n + 2n(x2n -2) + 2nC2 * x2n -4 + 2nC3 * x2n -6 + 2nC4 * x2n -8 + ... + 2nC2n * x2n -4n The (r + 1)th term of the above expression can be written as 2nCr * x2n -2r for example the 4th term will be gotten when r = 3 which is 2nC3 * x2n -6 Note: 1 = 2nC0 2n = 2nC1 In order the get the term independent of x, the power of x from the expression = 0 ==> 2n - 2r = 0 2n = 2r n = r The coefficient = 2nCr = 2nCn The term independent of x in [x + 1/x]^2n = (2n)!/((n!)(2n - n)!) = (2n)!/(n! * n!) |
Cool approach there Thanks a lot
You are welcome. My pleayure... benbuks: pls help me with this question..av bin tryin since....Check well I feel it should be lim as x-->a not 0 (x4 - a4)/(x - a) (x2 - a2)(x2 + a2)/(x - a) (x - a)(x + a)(x2 + a2)/(x -a) (x + a)(x2 + a2) To get the limit as x-->a, fix x as a into the above expression (a + a)(a2 + a2) 2a*2a2 4a3 If it were to be limit as x-->0 as asked, fix x as 0 (0 + a)(02 + a2) a * a2 a3 |
Sum the series: [5/(3 • 6)] + [(5 • 7)/(3 • 6 • 9)] + [(5 • 7 • 9)/(3 • 6 • 9 • 12)] +...~ NB: the • means multiplication as in, 2 • 3 = 6 Thanks @aysuccess99
Let me give it a try (1 + x)n = 1 + nx + n(n - 1)x2/2! + n(n - 1)(n - 2)x3/3! + n(n - 1)(n - 2)(n - 3)x4/4! + ... This can be written as (1 + x)n - 1 - nx = n(n - 1)x2/2! + n(n - 1)(n - 2)x3/3! + n(n - 1)(n - 2)(n - 3)x4/4! + ... Eqn (1) Let z = 5/(3 * 6) + 5 * 7/(3 * 6 * 9) + 5 * 7 * 9/(3 * 6 * 9 * 12) + ... Multiply both sides by 3 3z = 3 * 5/(3 * 6) + 3 * 5 * 7/(3 * 6 * 9) + 3 * 5 * 7 * 9/(3 * 6 * 9 * 12) + ... 3z = 3 * 5 * (1/3)2/(1 * 2) + 3 * 5 * 7 * (1/3)3/(1 * 2 * 3) + 3 * 5 * 7 * 9 * (1/3)4/(1 * 2 * 3 * 4) + ... 3z = 3 * 5 * (1/3)2/2! + 3 * 5 * 7 * (1/3)3/3! + 3 * 5 * 7 * 9 * (1/3)4/4! + ... Eqn (2) Comparing eqn (1) & eqn (2) 3z = (1 + x)n - 1 - nx Eqn (3) 3 * 5 * (1/3)2 = n(n - 1)x2 5 = 3n(n - 1)x2 Eqn (4) 3 * 5 * 7 * (1/3)3 = n(n - 1)(n - 2)x3 35 = 9n(n - 1)(n - 2)x3 Eqn (5) 3 * 5 * 7 * 9 * (1/3)4 = n(n - 1)(n - 2)(n - 3)x4 35 = 3n(n - 1)(n - 2)(n - 3)x4 Eqn (6) Divide equation (5) by equation (4) 7 = 3x(n - 2) Eqn (7) Divide equation (6) by equation (5) 1 = x(n - 3)/3 9 =3x(n - 3) Eqn ( ![]() Divide equation ( by equation (7)9/7 = (n - 3)/(n -2) 9(n - 2) = 7(n - 3) 9n - 18 = 7n - 21 2n = -3 n = -3/2 Substitute -1.5 for n in equation ( ![]() 9 = 3x(-1.5 - 3) 9 = 3x * -4.5 x = 9/(3 * -4.5) x = -2/3 , n = -3/2 Remember z is what we are looking for. Hence substitute the obtained values of n & x into equation (3) 3z = (1 + x)n - 1 - nx Eqn (3) 3z = (1 + -2/3)(-3/2) - 1 - (-2/3)(-3/2) 3z = (1/3)(-3/2) - 1 - 1 3z = 3(3/2) - 2 3z = (3^3)(1/2) - 2 3z = 27(1/2) - 2 z = 3 * 3(1/2)/3 - 2/3 z = 3(1/2) - 2/3 |

Though this thread www.nairaland.com/1575901/prophet-tb-joshua-2014-prophecy was posted earlier and its already on frontpage, but I feel this other one www.nairaland.com/1576438/full-tb-joshua-shocking-2014 gave much more details. Thus it deserves to be on front page instead of the first one. Can it be replaced or better still ...? |

For your reading pleasure. How far we've come 2013 click here May this form continue into the new year. Mehn! Ramsey don try o. Wenger no allow the guy rest the whole year. Out of 54 games, only 3 games missed. |
Although I'm not with you lot in your leagues but I want to share my game week experience with you all. Similar to others, all my benched players were substituted for inactive players. The only positive for me this GW was me having Hazard as my vice-captain. I sold Ramsey, Ozil, Negredo & Goufran then bought Silva, Henderson, Podolski & Rooney. At the end of the day, I had 43 points. -8 for transfers makes it 35 for the week. Now I've KO from the FA cup. The annoying part of this all is that up to 3 of my players won't be available this coming GW. All na part of the game sha |
rashywire: pls help luk @ dis question?The sum of the first n terms of an a.p Sn is given by Sn = 0.5n(2a + (n - 1)d) Where a is the first term & d is the common difference From the first statement, S10 = -55 0.5 * 10(2a + (10 - 1)d) = -55 5(2a + 9d) = -55 2a + 9d = -11 ..... (1) Using Tn to represent the nth term, the second part of the statement can be represented as; T11 + T12 + T13 + .... T17 = -217 = U S17 = S10 + U S17 = -55 + (-217) S17 = -272 i) Hence the sum of the first 17 terms = -272 ii) S17 = 0.5 * 17(2a +(17 - 1)d) = -272 8.5(2a + 16d) = -272 2a + 16d = -272/8.5 2a + 16d = -32 ..... (2) Subtract equation (2) from equation (1) to get 2a - 2a + 9d - 16d = -11 -(-32) -7d = 21 d = -3 Substitute -3 for d in equation (2) to get 2a + 16 * -3 = -32 a + 8 * -3 = -16 a - 24 = -16 a = 24 - 16 a = 8 d = -3 Hence the first term is 8 while the common difference is -3 |
