We won’t fix food prices — FG

By BusinessNews Staff on February 5, 2017
The task force set up Wednesday by the Federal Executive Council to tackle rising cost of food items has clarified that its assignment is “not about government intervening directly in the market for staple foods either though purchases or price fixing.”

The task force clarified this at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa in Abuja on Friday during its inaugural meeting presided over by Acting President Yemi Osinbajo.

The Senior Special Assistant to the Vice President on Media and Publicity, Laolu Akande, in a statement, quoted the task force as making the clarification at its meeting.

The taskforce, comprising the Ministers of Finance, Agriculture, Water Resources and Transportation, is expected to report back to the Federal Executive Council next week for “concrete actions”.

Akande said yesterday’s meeting focussed on understanding all factors contributing to unduly high food prices, especially at urban markets throughout the country.

He said the meeting also considered ways of urgently ameliorating the situation, particularly by addressing issues of affordability and availability.

He said the meeting identified factors that were most likely driving high food prices in some parts of the country despite bumper harvests at many farms.

He listed some of the factors identified as the poor state of rural infrastructure like roads, multiple revenue collecting points on the highways and inadequacy of distribution networks.

Akande said the meeting believed that all these factors contributed, among other things, to high transportation costs.

Christianity EtcRe: Stop Abusing God And Talking About Him Carelessly!! by aku626(m): 4:24pm On Feb 05, 2017
The love for evil has blinded us we think we know but know nothing the purpose of living cannot even be answered by the self acclaimed smart or acclaimed smart beings at present instead they reduce life to mere occurrence while deep down they know it's more than that they choose to run away from the things they don't know and find answers to the things that are obvious. We depend on the knowledge on the knowledge of good and evil and fail to acknowledge the creator of good and evil. Someday we would all be asked to account for this why not follow a path that is secure there's nothing wrong in planning for a beautiful future

jomoh:
Exactly my point.

The same system practiced in the north is the same with the Arabs. That is why to kill terrorism in the Arab nation will be very hard because for every victim of terrorism, there are dozens of interconnected families that will be hurt and rooting for revenge but kill a southerner, you will be surprised that even his immediate family may not attend his funeral.

It is very hard to penetrate them but once you do, whatever ideology you introduce to them will spread like wildfire.
how I wish we could unite and actually give ourselves what we deserve we provide wealth for the nation but we are poor. It's sad
PoliticsRe: N530B Arms Contract Probe : Army Generals Block Magu by aku626(m): 9:02pm On Feb 04, 2017
The average southerner isn't his brothers keeper till date and that's why we are here believe me. We don't care for ourselves we're divided
jomoh:
Believe me we are not cowards in the south an average southerner is braver than an average northerner relatively speaking.

The only problem we have is the way our society is set up.

The society of the northern elite is set up in such a way that everyone is intertwined and interconnected in one way or the other. A governor in Sokoto can be the cousin of the governor in Niger while also being the in-laws to the presidents and a host of other powerful people in the country. When pressures are mounted on you from all sorts of angle, you're bound to buckle at some point.

Go and study their community well, the ones that are morally upright and ready to fight corruption to a halt do not belong to the traditional elite society. They are the ones who had struggled to get to where they are. They are the ones who had seen it all as the downtrodden in the society. They are the ones who had seen firsthand what corruption can do to the society. They are the ones who have no ties and loyalty to the "royal" society. They come from the middle and lower classes of the society e.g. Ibrahim Magu, Ahmadu Alli, Nuhu Ribadu. The moment you start hearing that a son or daughter of this people is getting married to a member of the traditional "royal" society, know that they will soon start to compromise on their values.

Even in this forum look how divided we are. Some people from a region of nigeria attacked another region because they were holding protest and the culprit was arrested and yet to be released on shaky grounds. Now its your turn to protest and the same govt. is against you and you feel hurt. Why? What reasons do you have to protest peacefully that the other group doesn't have? grin
