No shame on this generation again. After they now graduate with "strong 2-1", they literally become empty blockheads when they get into corporate environment.
If the job they want to get doesn't require a professional degree e.g Engineering, Pharmacy, Law, etc then, there's nothing to worry about. They will get trained on the job.

If you like get first class in Chemistry, your Chemistry knowledge will almost not be needed in an Accounting firm. And ditto for Banking, Consulting, Tech, etc firms.

Lastly, if someone gets a job and can't perform at all, it means those that screened that candidate for that job need to get fired!
Crime / Re: Police Arrest Three For Alleged Machete Attack On Lagos DPO by Albertone(m): 8:07am On May 01
“On April 9, 2024, at about 23:00 hours, while on a sting operation to Otedola Bridge, Alausa Ikeja, Lagos State, a gang of three armed robbers surfaced from their criminal hideout and suddenly attacked the DPO Alausa division with cutlasses and other dangerous weapons, and they made away with her Samsung S22 phone."

Sending a female as part of sting operation team isn't supposed to happen. Can a woman easily defend herself if faced with attack?
Speaks volume as to why she was the only one attacked by the robbers despite they knowing she's a police woman.

Also, don't they have guns? How will someone with a cutlass attack someone with a gun? Women sha!

Also again, it was when a police personnel was affected that they swung into action. The robbers' victims for 5 years didn't prompt them to do so?

Way forward:
Jail those robbers as provided by the law.
Every force woman in Nigeria shouldn't be on the field. Move them to do administrative tasks, cooking food, serving ogas at the office and on the bed.
Romance / Re: See What Foreigners Are Saying About Nigerian Girls (pictures) by Albertone(m): 8:26am On Apr 29
pocohantas:
Some of the profile pictures are foreigners.
Are they actually foreigners or some of our own using foreign pictures? I didn't know Nigerian woman make friends with foreign women this much. Women bill male and female alike. Nothing new really. This is just one of the few times when women speakup. Most times we suck it up as a woman-to-woman thing.

I was thinking same. Are those not yahoo boys with pictures of foreign women? They sound very Nigerian.

Should adult women(or anybody) be billing at all? Except maybe close relatives to an extent.
Now they've carried their billing to foreigners whom aren't ready to suck it up as a "woman-to-woman thing".

At the emboldened:
People are typing in correct English like every English speaker should, you said it sounds Nigerian. So it's until they type "gonna, wanna, finna" before it won't sound Nigerian?

Romance / Re: Why Is It Very Difficult To Find A Woman Who Possesses All The Qualities (Photo) by Albertone(m): 3:44pm On Apr 25
immortalcrown:
The same reason it is difficult to find a man with similar qualities.

It takes a man with those qualities to find a matching woman. Birds of the same feathers go together.

But people try to reap where they did not sow. The post probably came from a man who is not a virgin.

I STRONGLY disagree.
A man with such qualities is considered a valuable man by most women. And majority of women will be attracted to him, both the ones that possess those qualities and those that don't.

So, a man with those qualities will definitely attract women without those qualities.

Can you suggest online sources to get articles to do my literature review? I get from google scholar but they all seem to be 10 to 30 pages or even 5 pages sef. Unlike our own here that our research work can span over 100 pages.
How can I get proper research projects please?

The whole point of people creating content online is to entertain, give information and then make money from it.

As long as I didn't deceive you there's nothing wrong with it

Tech is more accessible to break in than finance. This is a global phenomenon as tech is egalitarian, and cares less about the school, grade and course of study. Finance and its close sister Law are among the most elitist careers on earth. KPMG does not accept folks with two sittings in WASSCE and strictly five credits. Some finance companies discriminate based on university. Others discriminate based on grades. Tech is easier to break for literally anyone serious about learning.

Finance is an elitist industry o. If not tech, many folks from poorer backgrounds would not have earned high salaries, ditto those with lower grades from the university.

I guess we'll just have to go for whichever we have an advantage in breaking into.

76K+ people applied for PwC recruitment in 2019. This outstripped the over 42K+ who applied for Seplat graduate trainee within the same period. grin grin

Because it has a high turnover. The exodus of skilled Nigerian workers to Canada before this their high cost of living had those firms lose a lot of workers.

The high turnover is paired with more recruitment which makes it easier to break into unlike tech.

But big 4 is always recruiting rather than downsizing as seen in tech.

Finance is 100 times harder to break into than tech.

I disagree.

In finance, meeting the requirements for entry level roles is easier. Once you meet the requirements, the rest is how you perform at the screening.
Requirements like: Minimum of 2:1 in any field of study, less than age 27/28/29 etc.

But for tech, entry level role requirements now was experienced hire requirements previously.
Why will any company be requesting 3-5 YOE for a junior dev role?

I swear I saw an internship position in tech requiring 1-2 YOE. WTF!!

Are you into tech and how long have you been?

For over 1k to apply for a tech job doesn't mean it's saturated. Lot of them are "wannabes".

Majority of those who apply for a job are not fit . Individuals that still focus on syntax of a language, individuals that uses "class" but doesn't know what it does, individuals that don't know why and when to use "abstract class" as against "interface", individuals that have academic knowledge of "abstraction" and "polymorphism" etc.

If you want to be a software engineer, you need to see programming language like a human language. Some humans speak and write English like a toddler while some do like Shakespeare.

There lies your difference.

The benchmark you used to support your case was very faulty.

Out of the more than 1k applications, do you think the hiring managers have time to go through all? Note that they may want to hire just 5 devs.

LMAO. grin

Why did you drop though? That was your 50% sure bet of going up the zenith.

It's a tough market that requires high level skills and years of experience. Gone are the days of entry level jobs. Even internships are so scarce.

Also, no hope of being able to earn within 1 year of learning. If I don't earn, how can I learn? Tech bro gats to chop na.

The abroad I want to go to, those there are complaining that they send 300+ applications and got less than 10 interviews. Nigeria here, you can't even see up to 50 openings to apply to.

I don't need to.

I insist if someone needs to send 300+ applications to land an interview, he is not well skilled in tech.

Supply is greater than demand but you will not listen.
I saw a remote software engineering role posted on LinkedIn. Within 6 hours, it garnered over 1k applications.

As long as you have a bachelors degree with at least 2:1, you can switch.

It will obviously be easier to understand concepts for people in related field, but you can do it.

I know of a Law graduate that had 2:1 at both his university and at law school. He wrote and passed each CFA levels in one sitting(he didn't fail any of the levels) while working as an investment banking analyst.

I know countless people from Sciences and Art backgrounds that wrote and passed ICAN and are now with the big 4 accounting firms.

For the roadmap, google has more information on that.

Any tech person that knows his onion won't send 300+ applications to land an interview.

I wish I could show you lot of unsolicited jobs from foreign companies that I ignored.

If you have to write 300+ applications to land an interview in tech, the problem is not with tech but your skill set. Time to upskill.

Take some time to play around "CScareers" sub-reddit on Reddit.

Hogwash article.

Companies are actively recruiting for experienced hire and newbie who has lot of potentials.

You wont see SKILLED tech guy leaving IT for traditional industries.

There are so many moving parts in IT and you need to be well grounded and see how they influence each other.

I do not know where this op sees this false article. Genuine IT dudes are selling like hot cakes.

Gone are the days of newbies with potentials easily getting recruited.
Which newbie can compete against people with > 5 years of work experience?

Even in the US where a lot of opportunities abound, some computer science grads with experience send about 300+ applications and get less than 10 interviews.

How many roles are open in Nigeria?

Junior developer roles now require 3-5 years of work experience with knowledge requirements of a whole IT department.

Me I have dropped tech already o.
I'll look into investment banking or write ICAN and go the big 4 way.

I was learning tech so I can japa. But if God says I will japa, I'll definitely do with my investment banking or auditing knowledge.

Very interesting thread. 3 years. I hope the dozens of people that claimed they were starting out learning Tech eventually made something out of it 3 years later. Peace and regards to all!

At least they're more lucky than those just starting out now.
They would have had 3+ years of experience while newbies will be getting knocked by job market that favours only experience.
