If this was here in the States, does this pendejo know that he just talked himself into at least 20 years in Prison?! HE HAS NO DEFENSE!!!

And why is the EFCC allowing all sorts of characters visit inmates pending trial? The ONLY people that should be allowed to visit him PRE-TRIAL are his legal team; even his spouse should only be allowed to speak to him on monitored phone calls and only for a few minutes each week until the conclusion of proceedings. He should not be allowed access to his PERSONAL phones, and his letters--- both incoming and outgoing--- except VERIFIED Attorney/Client correspondence should be monitored. The result of neglecting control of Pre-Trial Inmates is the idiocy we see in the above article.

Anyway, Nigeria is still learning, hopefully they get it right before it's too late.
And where in YOUR STATES are citizens detained without trial nor evidence linking them to a certain crimehuh

Where in YOUR STATES does the president pronounce suspects guilty even without being pronounced so by the court of competent jurisdictionhuh

Where in YOUR STATES do security apparatus kill and maim unarmed protesters as if they are suicide bombershuh

Why should the EFCC arrest and detain a suspect and then start searching for the appropriate offence to charge him for while the suspect rots away in detention....Is that how they go about it in YOUR STATEShuh

Politics › Metuh Speaks About His Ordeal In The Hands Of EFCC by alcmene(op): 4:22pm On Jan 13, 2016
Adeyanju Deji, the Peoples Democratic Party’s director of new media, has narrated how he visited Olisa Metuh, the PDP’s spokesperson, who was arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) last week.

Deji further quoted Metuh saying: “They have tried to blackmail & spoil my name. Just imagine all they have said about me. Telling lies against me.

“First they said I was collecting N5million Naira monthly from office of NSA, imagine if u were my staff how u will feel hearing that. Imagine how all the news people & my staff working with me felt when they heard I was collecting N5milion Naira from Dasuki. They will say so this man was a wicked man. So he was collecting money from Dasuki & other places & was always telling us no money.

“Then they said I received N1.4billion, another big lie. All what they wanted was for everybody to see me like a common thief & hate me.

“Finally they came back to say I only got N400million. I have made a statement that former president asked me to do an assignment 4 him. In my statement, I stated that former president Jonathan gave me an assignment, he asked for an account & I gave him my company account. I got N400m which I used for the job he asked me to do. I gave a report to him of job done & he was satisfied. I have a copy of the report I submitted to the former president. EfCC asked me who I shared the money to & said it’s not their buz.

“That if they have any evidence against me, they should charge me to court. I have not called anyone’s name & will never call anyone. It is not a crime to carry out an assignment for a president & successfully do it as well. I have no regrets.

“They asked me for a copy of my report to the former president. I asked them are they the Court? I stated in my statement that it is a lie that I was collecting N5m Naira monthly from Dasuki or anyone in GEJ’s government. I stated they should investigate me thoroughly. If I have ever received any kobo from any parastatal or agency then I will plead guilty.”

Deji noted that Metuh commended the PDP and all members of the party for the great job during the governorship elections in Bayelsa state.

Continuing his narration, Metuh was quoted to have said:

“Imagine the EFCC boss sent my lawyer to me to ask me to return some of the money from the N400m. Unbelievable.

“Deji this government are not interested in democracy or civil liberty at all. You are guilty once they say so.

“Reason why they are doing media trials is because they have noting to offer this nation. That’s why they are doing this Telemundo.

“All what we told them is the same thing the IMF woman came to tell them. We told them u can’t borrow to fund 2016 budget. What we told them about Dollar is what they have finally agreed to do now. They have no ideas or clue about governance.

“They don’t believe in democracy or the notion of “innocent before proven guilty.” They want to silent every critic.”

Politics › Help Protect Vulnerable Places From Bokoharam Attacks, Lai Mohamed Tells Police by alcmene(op): 5:12pm On Jan 12, 2016
The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, has appealed to the police to provide more security for vulnerable places across the country in order to prevent attacks on such places by Boko Haram insurgents.

The Minister made the appeal when he paid a courtesy visit to the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Solomon Arase, in his office in Abuja on Tuesday.

”As we have told Nigerians on many occasions, our military has decimated Boko Haram and uprooted them from the territories they once controlled. What the terrorists are now engaged in are attacks on soft targets, by which I mean highly-vulnerable places like markets, motor parks, as well as worship and entertainment centres, etc.

”Herein lies the important task of the police, the body statutorily given the role of maintaining law and order.

The police, leveraging its large network, its investigative capacity and the fact that its personnel reside largely among the people, are now required to step in to protect these vulnerable places.

This they can do by working with transport workers, market women, local government councils and police public community relations councils, faith-based organizations, community development councils and other necessary stakeholders,” he said.

Alhaji Mohammed specifically urged the police to provide 24-hour, cost-free protection for the premises of broadcasting establishments.

”May I also use the opportunity of this visit to formally convey to the Inspector-General the message from the Broadcasting Organization of Nigeria (BON), when I met with their members last week in Abuja. They asked me to implore the Inspector-General to provide 24-hour police protection, at no extra cost, for the premises of their organizations. I am hereby presenting and endorsing their demand,” he said

The Minister hinged his endorsement of the request by the BON members on the fact that they have agreed to partner with the Federal Government in its National Security Awareness Campaign, an inter-agency campaign being spearheaded by the Ministry of Information and Culture.

He said their collaboration with the Federal Government in this important campaign could ”make them more vulnerable to possible attacks and aggravate the already tough conditions under which they operate”.

In his response, the Inspector-General said the visit was an opportunity for the police to draw from the vast and fertile experience of the Minister within the national space to enrich policing in Nigeria.

“In this regard, it is particularly appreciated that the Hon. Minister could deploy the broad network of his ministry to support the leadership of the Nigeria Police in advancing the concept of police-community partnership and to aid in enlightening the general public down to the grass roots on their civic responsibilities in relation to national security and crime prevention,” he said.

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has assured Nigerians not to despair as the military is working hard to eradicate the activities of the Boko Haram insurgents in the country’s north eastern states this year.

Air Officer Commanding (AOC) Tactical Air Command (TAC), AVM Adeniyi Ojuawo who made the remark during the Base Socio-Cultural Activity (BASA) organized for officers and men of the Command with their families at the weekend in Makurdi, said that the Air Force had deflated the insurgents.

He noted that all the terrorists could do at the moment was suicide bombing, adding, “We have degraded them to a level that for the past three weeks, we have not heard anything like suicide bombing. It’s obvious that we are working and we are achieving our objectives.” He posited that though Boko Haram would not ease out easily, he assured Nigerians that before the end of the year, the group would be
conquered.

He added that 2015 would be remembered as the year that the Nigerian military was able to reduce to the barest minimum, the activities of Boko Haram. According to him, the Tactical Air Command as the teeth arm of the Nigerian Air Force was ready to do better this year as he described the recent donation of some military wares to Nigeria by the US government as a welcome development to indirectly help fight insurgency.

Acting Managing Director of Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Mrs. Ibim Semenitari has said that although N82 million was spent by Rivers State Government to host Nobel Laureate, Professor Wole Soyinka, the money was not for Soyinka to eat dinner alone, other expenses were incurred.

In a Statement by Bekee Anyalewechi, Special Assistant (media) to the Ag. Managing Director, Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Semenitari explained that expenses covered “Dance Drama by University of Port Harcourt Arts Village; Great Singha & His Highlife Band; Set Design, Stage Lighting & Costume Design; Costume Design & Stage Property; Dinner; Transportation and Accommodation of guests from outside the country and those outside Rivers State; Decoration; Travels & Logistics, etc.”

The NDDC Boss described allegations as bare faced lies written to smear her reputation. The statement read “For months, officials of the current administration in Rivers State were looking for “evidence” to justify their much-touted corruption allegation against the former Administration of Hon. Chibuike Amaechi. And last week, they finally “found” one.

“At a lavish press conference in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State Commissioner of Information and Communications, Dr. Austin Tam-George, called on anti-corruption agencies to investigate the expenditure of N82 million made to host Nobel Laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka, during his 80th birthday celebration.

“Unfortunately, and perhaps to show the sinister intent of the whole issue, to which the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have also shown undue excitement, references were made to Prof. Soyinka as a “friend of Amaechi”, without putting in context what necessitated the honour for the Nobel Laureate by the then Rivers State Government.
“While the whole claim is nothing but bare-faced lies deliberately hatched to smear the literary scholar as well as the Acting Managing Director of Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Mrs. Ibim Semenitari, it is a shame that officials of government would indulge in this kind of gimmicky just to settle petty scores. We feel particularly sorry that Tam-George, barely a week in office, has manifested such gross incompetence in the procedures of his office as spokesman of government.

“The background to the decision of the then Rivers State Government to honour Prof. Soyinka, his family and friends, had a link to the great literary feat the then Administration of Hon. Amaechi achieved in securing Port Harcourt as the UNESCO World Book Capital City 2014. The feat, which put not only Rivers State but indeed Nigeria on the global map, had not happened before and one of the people who assisted in that regard was Prof. Soyinka, a cerebral literary icon, an authority in global literature and The Arts generally.

“However, was the total amount of N82 million spent on the dinner alone, as Tam-George, PDP and their cohort would want the world go to bed with? The answer definitely is NO, even as we challenge him to release the entire documents as contained in Mrs. Ibim Semenitari’s Memo REF: MOI/COM/C./82/Vol. III/227 to cover Dance Drama by University of Port Harcourt Arts Village; Great Singha & His Highlife Band; Set Design, Stage Lighting & Costume Design; Costume Design & Stage Property; Dinner; Transportation and Accommodation of guests from outside the country and those outside Rivers State; Decoration; Travels & Logistics, etc.

“Indeed, nothing can be more callous than the imputation that the dinner was because Prof. Soyinka “is a friend of Amaechi”. Having turned down several other overtures for an open honour to his enormous contributions to the growth of the literary industry in Rivers State, it was a decision of the State Executive Council to celebrate a man who had been a strong DNA in the birth of Garden City Literary Festival (later Port Harcourt Literary Festival) which catapulted the state to a global player in The Arts.

“Rather than face his urgent job as Information Commissioner to see whether he can help reposition an administration that is fast losing credibility in the eyes of civilized people in Rivers State, Tam-George would rather prefer to smear the exalted reputation of Prof. Soyinka, a man whose shoes’ lace he would be unable to untie all his life.

“We can forgive Tam-George’s attempts to smear the reputation and hard-work of Semenitari, who meritoriously served Rivers State for six years, since he must be suffering from a serious complex. But to drag the name of Prof. Soyinka into their coven of inferiority is beyond the pale.

“We, therefore, state unequivocally that if the media invitation to anti-crime agencies to probe Semenitari was on the expenditure of the N82 million, her doors are open any day, any time to welcome them.”

Politics › Metuh: Gen Isa’s Release Confirms Witch-hunt Against Us – PDP by alcmene(op): 11:25am On Jan 11, 2016
The People’s Democratic party (PDP) yesterday said the release of Brig. General Jafaru Isa (rtd) by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) barely eight hours after arrest has vindicated their position that the federal government was not fighting corruption but on a clamp-down mission on PDP leaders.

The PDP describes Gen. Isa as an associate of President Muhammadu Buhari, and chieftain of All Progressives Congress (APC).

The opposition party decried that while its spokesman, Olisa Metuh, who was arrested without invitation by the anti-graft agency has remained incarcerated since Tuesday while the “APC chieftain who even disregarded the commission’s invitation and had to be arrested was quickly released after the EFCC boss meeting at the presidential villa.”

The party further claimed that there was a marching order from the presidency for the immediate release of Buhari’s associates stressing that it was a major reason why the acting EFCC chairman, Ibrahim Magu, made repeated visits to the presidential villa within the period of Gen. Isa’s arrest.

The PDP in a statement signed by the national legal adviser, Barr Victor Kwon, said there could be no clearer indication that the APC-led administration was on a man-hunt against PDP leaders, and that it has a personal grudge against Chief Metuh, ostensibly for his stance as opposition spokesman, particularly his recent exchange with the government and the APC over their dictatorial activities.

The party queried “the action of the EFCC in freeing Brig. General Jafaru Isa, eight hours after his arrest last Wednesday night while Chief Metuh is still being detained even when the two are being investigated over same allegation of receiving funds from the office of the National Security Adviser (NSA).

“The release of Jafaru Isa, a known associate of the president and chieftain of the APC eight hours after his arrest while our spokesman remains in detention even when the two are being investigated over same allegation, clearly shows that the President Buhari-led APC government is not fighting corruption but using the much hyped crusade as a cover to persecute PDP leaders and decimate the opposition, a project the EFCC has clearly yielded itself as a willing tool.

“We have information of the marching order from the presidency for the immediate release of the president’s associate and that his issue is one of the major part reasons for the repeated visits of the EFCC chairman to the presidential villa within the period of his arrest. Of course, there is nothing hidden under the sun.

“We ask, how can the EFCC now explain to the world that it is not corrupt and teleguided by the federal government to persecute PDP leaders? What happened to the illegal holding charge upon which it has detained the PDP spokesman beyond the limit stipulated by section 35(5a) of the constitution and in violation of his guaranteed personal liberty under the law?

“Is it really true that the fund Jafaru Isa was alleged to have received from the former NSA was traced near the corridors of those who today bestride power in the country? Furthermore, can the federal government and the APC now in all honesty face the world and announce that this administration is indeed waging war against corruption?

“Can the EFCC explain what has happened to several petitions by Nigerians on corruption issues against many APC leaders including those who as former governor looted funds belonging to their state? Are they now under immunity for the fact that they are in the APC and that most of the funds they looted where used to finance APC’s presidential campaign?

Politics › Federal High Court Denies Granting Dasuki, Others N250m Bail by alcmene(op): 6:51pm On Jan 06, 2016
In a swift rebuttal on Wednesday, authorities of the Federal High Court of Nigeria (FHCN), dissociated the court from media reports it granted bail to the tune of N250 million to the embattled immediate-past National Security Adviser (NSA), Colonel Sambo Dasuki (reted) and others being tried in relation to the $2.1 billion arms deal scandal.

Acting Chief Registrar of the FHCN, Emmanuel Garko, stated that authorities of the Court could not have granted bail to any of those being tried in relation to the arms deal because none of them was charged before the court.

In a statement issued by Garko, he said the clarification became imperative in view of misrepresentation in the media that the Federal High Court granted bail to Dasuki and others at N250million each.

He said: “It will be in the interest of the reporters and editors (the media) to note that these cases involving the accused persons are not all before the Federal High Court of Nigeria as reported by some national dailies, but before Justice Hussein Baba Yusuf and Justice Peter Affen of the High Court of the FCT.”

Explaining that the Federal High Court of Nigeria is different from the High Court of FCT, which has their respective jurisdiction, Garko however, urged the media to be cautious in their operations and always endeavour to cross check facts before publication.

However, recall that Dasuki and others were only granted bail on two occasions on December 18 and 21 last year at N250million by Justices Hussein Baba-Yusuf and Peter Affen of the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Dasuki is currently involved in three criminal cases pending before the Federal High Court, Abuja and the High Court of the Federal Capital territory (FCT), Maitama, Abuja.

Dasuki is being tried alone on a five-count charge of money laundering involving about N84.6m and illegal possession of firearms before Justice Adeniyi Ademola of the Federal High Court, Abuja.

The second case involving Dasuki is that in which he is being tried with an ex-Director of Finance and Administration in the office of the NSA, Shuaibu Salisu and former Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Aminu Baba-Kusa in a 19 count-charge bordering on criminal diversion of funds.

Dasuki, Salisu, Baba-Kusa and two companies – Acacia Holdings Limited and Reliance Referral Hospital Limited were charged with conspiracy and criminal breach of trust under the Penal Code Act and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (Establishment) Act.

The trial judge, Justice baba-Yusuf admitted each of them to bail in a ruling on December 18 at N250m with one surety and adjourned toJanuary 21 for commencement of trial.

In the third case, Dasuki is being tried with former Minister of State for Finance, Bashir Yuguda, former Sokoto State governor, Attahiru Dalhatu Bafarawa, his son and firm – Sagir Attahiru and Dalhatu Investment Limited – and former Director of Finance and Administration in the office of the NSA, Shuaibu Salisu in a 22-count charge of alleged diversion of over 20billion.

Justice Affen, on December 21 last year, granted bail to each of them at N250m with two sureties and fixed February 2 for commencement of trial.
