PoliticsRe: Is There Any Legitimate Way To Earn A Decent Living? by alex101(m): 5:07am On Mar 29, 2011
@ OP,

It is quite unfortunate that most nigerians see politics as the surest way to make it in nigeria. Infact, once you have a 'foothold' on politics, you literally have access to oil.

This is why most (if not all) other sectors are neglected. That's why you have 'do or die' politics. Most money-bags in nigeria have one political connection or another huh

For me, I believe you don't have to be a politician to really make it. I still believe agriculture is a viable option to earning a decent living. Think about it,,,,,,,the world is still eating chocolate, but the SW have abandoned large scale cocoa plantation that once sustained the west. Same for the east that had palm oil plantation,,,,,,the north that had groundnut.
If an individual can get into one of the cash crop cultivation, the sky will be the limit- politics or no politics! cool

jason123:
It should not be taught in schools for obvious reasons. In a fight or a war in this case, there are two stories (as they say, it takes two to tango), and they are both at fault.

There are different ethnic groups that view the Civil war in different ways

Northerners: Northerners fought against Biafra because an Igbo man killed their Spiritual leader and the leaders of other ethnic group while leaving their own leaders (Igbos) to somehow escape.

West or Yorubas: They did not want to get involved in the war until Ojukwu (Biafra warlord) invaded the MW (their cousins) and bomb lagos with the perceived plan of Biafra invasion of the West after the MW had fallen. The coup also assassinated Samuel Akintola (the western prime minister or leader back then).

MW: They viewed the Biafran army as an army of occupation or they Biafra army had a secret expansionist agenda.

Ijaw: According to them, they said Ojukwu was disrespectful and all so they turned aginst Biafra

The Eastern Minorities: All opposition leaders to Biafra were killed by the dominate Igbo ethnic group in that geographical expression. They were basically forced into a war without their consent.

The Igbo: They wanted to liberated the country of corruption and all but the plan fail when they killed leaders from every other ethnic group but their escaped so it was viewed as an ethnic coup or an Igbo coup. Also, the quick expansion of Biafra territory into other occupied territories did not help matters.
Pogroms started in the North and a lot of igbos were killed.

Conclusion:
The above was just a brief summary. It should not be taught in schools because it WILL promote hatred and castigation. The North is still finding it hard to forgive. All in all, it will just promote hatred and open old wounds.

arrant nonsense! sometimes I wonder how you sleep well at night with these your lies and hypocrisy!

This Onlytruth and Ezeuche (and sometimes Alex) are the funnest internet characters I have every come across.
When you hear them type crap, you sometimes wonder if they are actually guilty of the crime (suppression of minorities). Take a look at how a North easterner and a MWesterner put them in their place? Even with the little time I spent in Nigeria, one thing was certain, Igbos ONLY employ themselves. I noticed this in Lagos. Yet, it is yorubas that are the tribalist. Igbos claim other people's territory yet it is the Yorubas that are tribalist.
I really do not have time to debate you guys but all I want you to leave with is, "anybody that reads this thread will think Igbos lost a great empire instead of simply the dissociation of minority groups from them". Other minorities and majority groups (Aljharem, Physics, and I)are not even claiming or not claiming other groups the way these 3 people above do. Well sha, carry one . . . . . . . . time will surely tell.lol.
Let me get this straight, you want an Igbo boy that started out by serving his "oga" for years, got a start-up money for his own business to employ outsiders before his own fellow brothers? huh Thesame Igbo business/product that is derided as "Aba made"? huh.
What of Innonso motors, which the vast majority of nigeria (even on nairaland) referred to as "unsafe". Even a governmental body had to sideline Innonso motors by ordering buses from China. Business must grow large enough before it can sustain a huge workforce. Most Igbo businesses are individually owned and there is nothing wrong in keeping it in the family. cool

Ol boy, your hypocrisy knows no bound. You don't have to vote GEJ, neither do Igbo have to vote BB. Do your thing and let others do theirs. What I don't like is this holier than thou attitude of yours sad

This is why I laugh at those who shout one nigeria grin grin

As a die hard "non-one nigerianist", I am exceedingly glad because the outcome of GEJ's victory in the forthcoming election will see the beginning of the end of that dungeon called nigeria.

The CIA are not fools when they predicted the demise of nigeria come 2015. Over the years, I have also realise that tribalism is very much needed for nigeria to break-up. With tribaism gravely entrenched and practised by all, there is no way the nigerian spirit(if there is any such thing at all) can ever be one,,,,,hence; it's a fee fall forever for 'one nigeria'! cool

Finally my friends, let us enjoy nigeria while it last. Let us never stop practising our tribalism. cheesy grin

LONG LIVE TRIBALISM IN THE NIGERIAN DUNGEON! LET EVERY ETHNIC GROUP (MAJORITY AND MINORITY) FEEL ITS IMPACT! AMEN! cheesy grin

I see way past this year. I see the future! cool

@alex,

I believe that if Ndigbo can devise a way to ALWAYS speak with one voice, EVERYBODY in Nigeria would listen whenever we speak. cool
For me, that is priceless.

@alex101

The biggest achievement by Ndigbo this year is the ability to speak with one voice.
That had eluded us for many years, but we did it resoundingly this year with GEJ.
From here, we can build on that ability. You have to count one before counting two.

M0r0ns like egift can't get it.

I really believe that Ndigbo are gradually learning and adjusting to Nigerian politics.  cool
I'm still positively shocked that there is no single presidential candidate from Igboland this year.  cool
That alone is an amazing feat for a people so disorganized a few years back. cool
I'm proud of what we Ndigbo have achieved by supporting GEJ this year.  cool
If we can do this, we can definitely do more.  cool
The bolded is the greatest thing to ever happen to Igbo politically cool I am happy that this issue of doctored "Igbo domination" is gradually being put to rest.

I see it this way: in previous presidential elections with Igbo candidate, you will have another Igbo candidate(s) running for thesame thing,,,,,,remember 2003?
Now, an Ijaw is vying for the post, Igbo is exhibiting maturity by not running,,,,,,,,,,our detrators can no longer accuse Ndigbo of selfishness,,,,,if only the Ijaw people will open their eyes! huh

I have also summed up the biafra war as follows:

-Biafra fought the war on two fronts

-1stly; Biafra fought against nigeria and her british, USSR and arab league allies.

-2ndly; Biafra had to contend with efulefus from within. These efulefus were willing to sell biafra to her enemies, just because they want to appear different, 'sophisticated' and republican huh

I still believe that Igboland is still riddled with these clowns, and it will do us a whole lot of good if we can 'identify and excommunicate' such saboteurs from our sacred land,,,,,,,,,,,IF ONLY I'M AN IGBO LEADER angry
PoliticsRe: 20 Reasons I Will Not Vote For Buhari by alex101(m): 1:37am On Mar 27, 2011
Going by what I read from some Buhari supporters of Igbo extraction, I cannot help but shake my head. Unbridled 'Igbo republicanism" is what has kept Ndigbo in their current political plight in nigeria. The blame should go to Igbo parents who raise their kids outside of Alaigbo and at thesame time fail to teach them what they will face as Igbo men/women in nigeria. angry
This is like  African American parents failing to alert their ward with what they will face as they grow up as black men/women in America, especially in terms of racial profiling. Igboland has some efulefus that need to be offloaded. cool
When Buhari picked Bakare, I saw the hand writing on the wall,,,,,,,the usual 'about-turn' of the SW. In a way I like this. Now this will be a defining moment for the relationship between Ndigbo and Ijaw,,,,,,Ijaw people can now see that there is no such thing as 'Igbo domination' which the north and the SW have been telling them all these years.

If an Igbo chooses to stay in those areas, they know that there is no turning back to the East. Either fight where you stand or perish.

I feel sorry for the Yoruba though. Chickens coming home to roost I must say. Hausa bearing down from the North, Igbo and Ijaws from the East. It seems like your land is already being PARTITIONED.

@alex101: grin grin grin

I realize the importance of oil to the economy, man. Especially in a pre-industrial country like Nigeria.

Otoh, if someone tells me that 20% of those oil reserves are in Yorubaland (either offshore or onshore. . . ) then the game changes. 400K barrels of oil per day is enough for me. . . especially when you combine that with Lagos port revenues that go to the federal government, VAT money, and the possibility of additional minining of resources like gold and bitumen.

I don't want to leave Nigeria unless it is done on a firm financial footing.Biofuel is just a replacement for oil. And unless you want to wipe out the Amazon rainforest in Brazil, there is only so much of it you'll be able to produce. Not to mention how it raises the cost of basic foodstuffs, thus placing a lot of pressure on poor people.

Regarding electric cars. . . have you tried to buy one before?
undecided They are way too expensive compared to the gas equivalent, even with US federal and state subsidies available. I bought a car in 2007, ended up just buying the ordinary version rather than the hybrid.
@ 1st bolded, since you don't want to leave nigeria, will you in any 'form, shape, or capacity' help those like say Ijaw that desire to leave? grin
@ 2nd bolded, regarding electric cars, I know they are expensive at the moment, but in the later part of this century-say 2030, they will be affordable by everybody that wants one cool
PoliticsRe: You Stupid Ijaws Should Keep Your Oil. Ondo State Produces Oil And Thats The Oil by alex101(m): 1:00am On Mar 24, 2011
@ post/OP,

Oil will become irrelevant very soon. cool Most cars of the later half of the 21st century will run on mostly electricity and biofuel, as we currently have in Brazil.

Even most tractor trailers/18-wheelers will be fully powered by compressed gas, which the US has in large quantity/reserve.

The industries that will depend on oil (at a considerable level) will be the airline industry and 'military industrial complex'. Of course, the latter will only need it in huge amount when there is a major conflict.

So my friends, the 'party' will be over sooner than later. cool
