My dear, I stay in Port Harcourt too, but the kind of things I read on Social media about Port Harcourt baffles me. Where in PH does all these happen? Abi PH dey two? its not that bad naa. haba!
Please don't doubt this story, i used to think that stories on nairaland are just fairy tales. This thing happened yesterday at Iwofe on a street opposite City Crown Hotel. I was scared of returning home after i was called by my wife and informed of what had just happened in our neighbourhood. Accept this story as the truth.
EducationRe: PHOTO: Best Student In Crop Production In EKSU Gets 2 Thousand Naira by alimaa: 6:39pm On Jun 24, 2018
Gerrard59:
Let's see it this way: There is an award in place that rewards a student who performs excellently in a particular course or general and they decided to invest 2K on the winner.

My take:

1, It is their money.

2, They have the right to invest any amount of money for an award. E.g. We have scholarships that pay 1 thousand pounds per annum (which is not enough for someone) to PG students, but people still jostle for it. You might not like it, but that is the scholarship body can afford.

3, S/He (student) reserves the right to accept it or decline.

4, It is not obligatory to "dash" a student money because s/he performed well in school. It is an optional decision.

What should be encouraged is people giving to the school and sponsor not berating folks for the amount of money they decide to donate.
The best is for everyone to keep their money and channel it to their family problems.
EducationRe: PHOTO: Best Student In Crop Production In EKSU Gets 2 Thousand Naira by alimaa: 10:49pm On Jun 23, 2018
Gerrard59:
Three things are involved:

1, I do not have the right to tell you how to spend your money.

2, I have the right to decline your gift if I desire.

3, There is no place where students MUST be paid for performing well in school. Your performance is for you and warrants no reward as a MUST except on benevolent grounds by an individual/authority - which is their right to give or not.
Whatever is worth doing is worth doing well, the student is not entitled to any monetary reward. If someone gives me five naira as a gift i may be tempted to curse the person because i did not beg you for it neither am i entitled to anything bigger. You just don't come around someone to ridicule the person. If i come to your wedding and present a plastic spoon of N50 as a gift how will you see it? Only give to people what is reasonable. Don't you know some gifts are a mockery to one's destiny?

It is an award by an individual not the school. Nothing unusual.

However, if I was the one, I would not go the stress to get the money. Just include the achievement on my CV.

BBN was sponsored by private firms desiring to make money not for philanthropic purposes. Two different cases. You can't tell a private individual/firm how to spend his/their money.

You do not become the best graduating student because you want to be "dashed" money. Not done anywhere. It is the prerogative of anyone to give you an award not an obligation.
Your comment is interesting. So if i walk up to you and give you Five naira as a gift you wouldn't see it as an insult since it is not your right?

Peter, one thing you don't realize is that God knew why he brought you and your brother to this life together. It could be that the two of you must pursue your destiny jointly and not separately.

BusinessRe: UBA Added N10 To Lady's N40 To Withdraw N52 For Card Maintenance by alimaa: 3:28pm On Jun 07, 2018
flexyrule:
Just like one smart girl up there explained.... Her N40 might have accrued her that interest over time and when the interest was up to the deficit amount required for the card maintenance, the system automatically debitted her acvount.
Most banks are grossly understaffed, nobody has time to be checking accounts with N40 balance. These things are automated.
You don't understand programming that's the reason for this comment. I can write a program that will check all customers' account balance everyday and if a customer's account is supposed to be debited a certain amount the system will automatically credit the deficit to that account and still debit the required charge. I don't need to login to view customers' account balance. All programmers on this forum know this.

Is she the main breadwinner in the house?
Please answer this question
This is not uncommon when the woman is the one bringing home the bacon. Shouldn't be so but the saying that he who pays the piper dictates the tune is so true.

Was this your wife's apartment before you got married and you moved in with her.
I suspect that could be the case
I can't explain what else would poses an older sister to lay down in her sister''s matrimonial bed besides stupidity and over familiarity .

Even if you are not pulling your weight financially ,I don't believe you should be disrespected in this manner.
Your wife is unreasonable for not coming to an agreement with you on how long her sister is there for and I am shocked you've not even mentioned it to her.
This make me suspect strongly that she may be the main provider for the family.
I feel for you
You must have a conversation with your wife about this
You're not scared of her are you?
I provide everything, my wife just finished her OND programme.

Is there any of their family member that is reasonable and you can talk to? Please explain to that person.

It is wrong for her to come and stay and refuse to go.

And if you have money for an extra mouth, bring one of your family members that she is not fond of to come and stay.
I don't know anyone to report to, her stay has increased my daily expenses.
FamilyMy Wife's Elder Sister Has Finally Settled In My Home & I Don't Know What To Do by alimaa(op): 11:48am On Jun 01, 2018
I know i am supposed to post this in the family section but i always get better response from the Romance section. I don't know whether any of you has been in a situation where an in-law comes for a short visit and finally settles in your home without any sign of leaving anytime soon.

My wife's elder sister who is single came to visit us in January but up till now she has not made any move to go and it's not as if we live in a big apartment so there is no much privacy. We got married in 2015 so our union is still young.

This kind of situation puts one in a dilemma because you just don't know what to say and you will be termed "a bad person". She lies on our matrimonial bed even in my presence.

Before now i never knew someone would feel comfortable staying with a younger sister in her matrimonial home. If it is as a result of accommodation problem or maybe you went to a distant location to do one or two things and you now spend sometime in your younger sister's home, that is understandable.

Please what advice do you have for me?

its like you have a deep fantasy of calling your fellow man sweet romantic names.
Go on, who is holding you.
You are wrong, why is it that many people on Nairaland are just unfriendly? When you try to interact before you know it you are attacked. This is the main reason why so many people on this forum only read comments without making contribution. We are just interacting, we don't need to throw insults at anyone.

I love your responses so far. I have told my wife about it and she knows the sister in question and she is of the opinion that i direct the girl to her each time she asks for monetary assistance, that it will make her stop asking for more. My wife is not that type that confronts people.
RomanceMy Church Sister Has Turned Me To Her ATM Even Though I Am Married by alimaa(op): 8:00pm On Feb 28, 2018
I rarely post on this forum but i think i can get a good advice here. There was this church sister i was admiring when i was still single around 2014 and i tried to woo her but the treatment she gave to me was terrible. She rejected all my advances until i was discouraged. It was just a few years after NYSC and i was just managing the little job i was engaged in and everything then was just not rosy at all.

After a while i approached another sister in my church and we got married within eight months but a few weeks to our traditional marriage i got a better job offer that was ten times better than what i was doing and since then God has been good to us.
After our wedding, the other church sister who turned down my advances came and joined the music team which i was a part of and since then she has been on my neck. She became friendly to me and she started calling me on phone to ask for recharge cards; from there she progressed to financial assistance and i have been complying. Initially I thought i was just being helpful but her requests keep coming and even when I am with my wife she keeps calling.

Something in me tells me that this is how extra-marital affair starts and i don't want to be involved in it. Not just that, the church i attend will quickly dish out punishment whenever they suspect someone of anything immorality and it will be very embarrassing. More so, if a woman can prove that you have been sending her money she has also proved that you are dating her and you cannot exonerate yourself from such allegation. Even when you try to exonerate yourself, people will ask you "then on what grounds have you been giving her money?" This is because people all over the world believe that money is given in exchange for something which could be anything.

Please what can i do to make this girl stay away from me in order not to break my home?
