Another Okija: Maybe Sullivan Chime for vice, but I dont believe that 2015 is our year..
why do you say so ?

Roachas comes to mind, in as much as I always go for competence and merit; Rocahas ticks it for me.

A Roachas Presidential candidate would get my vote anytime anyday.

My brother 2015 is indeed the year were all Nigerian must unite to vote for a GOOD Igbo president and I am sure there are a lot out there. I don't subscribe to the idea of Igbos not producing the president for years while others do, it is wrong IMO
PoliticsIgbos Unite For 2015 Presidency by aljharem(op): 12:31am On May 27, 2012
Enugu – The Igbos on Friday in Enugu organised a forum to discuss strategies to make the dream of Igbo presidency in 2015 a reality.

The group met under the aegis of Igbo Unity Forum and the forum was entitled: “Ndigbo in the Geo-Politics of Nigeria, the way forward”.

A members of the Ohaneze Ndigbo, former governor of Anambra, Chief Chukwuemeka Ezeife and traditional rulers delivering a key note address urged the Igbos to affirm their commitment in getting the presidency in 2015.

“We have said that Igbo Nigerian president is important to us and we must pray to God to get it.

“Igbos should play a game of cooperation not competition. We are super qualified for the presidency but we will be organised to achieve it.

“This time around, we are going to cooperate, all Igbos must go for campaign in all the tribes in the country to tell them what we want,’’ Ezeife said.

Ezeife, however, called for the implementation of the resolutions at the last South-east economic summit held in Enugu.

The Deputy National President of Ohaneze Ndigbo, Mr Iga Igaliwe, restated its commitment toward ensuring the sustainability of Igbo culture through its leaders.

“We will create a platform for our leaders to come and air their views because we know that our problem is failure in leadership. We must strive to achieve success.’’ he said.

The Chairman of the occasion, Amb. Godwin Onyegbula, called for the actualisation of the Igbo cause to produce fruitful results.

“Igbos need to work hard in the Nigerian political parties to establish relevance,’’ Onyegbula said.

The President General of Umuada Igbo in Nigeria, Mrs Uzoamaka Ezeofor, in her speech decried the dearth of Igbo mother tongue.

Ezeofor appealed to the parents to always teach their children Igbo language as a way of preserving their culture. (NAN)

Show is over for Andre Beaf and co

Make everyone go sleep. But I must say I am utterly disappointed on the Igbos on this site, it seem they are on Yorubas case with there divisive minds.

ikachi1: From my explanation of Bini link with the Yorubas, you can decide by yourself. If the obaship in Kwara and Kogi are Yoruba linked, you have the answer already. Even within the Yorubas, there were and still there are many kingdoms. This does not exclude them from being Yorubas. I read in one of the dailies long time ago during the chairmanship of the council of Obaship tussle in Yoruba land where the Owa Obokun of Ijesha land even claimed not to be from Ofuduwa's line. Where are they from and how did they get the name Oba? The fist known Oba happened to be a Bibi. Oduduwa was not called an Oba was he? Neither was Oranmiyan who was said to be the first Alafin?
very correct, it seems like you understand yoruba history very well.

Therefore it is safe to say that that Yoruba history from Edo point of view is that of Ile ife right or wrong ?

shymmex: It's funny how threads like this about Yoruba are created by igbo posters (obiagu1) - and most of the clowns who troll, and post dumb comments on the same thread are igbos... You guys are inbred with tribalism, and hatred for Yoruba people..

When has Yoruba people ever claimed any minority group?? We don't even claim Yoruboid groups like Ilajes, and itsekiris in Delta - yet, an Igbo poster deem it right to open an idiotic thread to ask a silly question..We don't even claim Yoruba subgroups in both Kwara, and Kogi states - the OP, and Obiagu1 need to get a life.. Worry about igboid groups denying their ancestry, and leave Yoruba people alone..

Keep writing letters to Ikwerre people begging to claim igbo ancestry, clowns - and keep Yoruba out of your mouth.. What do Edo people have that's beneficial to Yoruba anyways.. We may share the same ancestry, but we're different people..
Gbammm you have said it all.

You can clearly see that Phase 2 of the Oyo empire did not even get to Lagos

Ondo and Ekiti were in Benin empire.

Lagos, part dahomey and part "Bini"

ikachi1: There were about 33 Ogisos kings and a period of interegnum before the first Oba of Benin who happened to be a grand son of Oduduwa who was from Benin according to documented Benin folklore. Although the Yorubas claim that they were existing before the arrival of Oduduwa, there has been no concrete evidence to justify that claim. Igodomigodo as Benin was then known has a rich history dating back to 3rd century AD. Benin kingdom extended past the present day Republic of Benin. Although the present day Republic of Benin was bearing the name Dahomey, they learnt of their true identity hence the change of name to Republic of Benin. One writer rightly identified the origin of the Obaship of Lagos (Eko) and the Oba of Lagos has not denied this. The Bimis founded many kingdoms and the Yorubas might be one of the big ones.
You are joking right ?

Dahomey was an independent kingdom of there own

Dahomey is an Ogu settlement and was never meant until Egbas got there.

Moreover how does one explain the Obaship in Kwara and kogi knowing full well that Benin influence did not get there. smiley

I really hope not ! moreover what makes you think he is yoruba ?

Donbrig: The Edo people don't see themselves as yorubas, but the Edos are the closest to Yorubas in various ways. An Edo man will never betray a Yoruba man to another tribe. A very big part of Edo people's heart belong to the Yorubas. As an Edo man, I can sincerely confirm that the Edos love and cherish the Yoruba people so much, that is why whatever affects them affects us.. And once it comes to politics, both tribes always watch each others back.
My point exactly. Waruese ose mwen, Ivineva e yoruba kevbe edo khin, my brother akugbe o e etin.

corinna: i dig your style joor. At least we are one Nigeria. But truth is not many people is as liberal to his neighbour as you are. I have met many nice yourubas as an Edo person who see me as family and are nice but I have also met one to many who are the most tribalistic person on earth. I have nigerian graduates of yoruba origin(on four different occaisions both in lagos and europe, i.e pple. in their 30s-40s) who ask me if Edo is part of Ibo or Urhobo or even Hausa. Although i don´t know their intentions for such questions but it gives me an impression of pure DULLNESS (pls. no insults meant) but how can a nigerian graduate ask such a silly question. No graduate from south south or east will be so naive.

PhysicsQED: Alj harem, I never said that I necessarily believed/agreed exactly with Papabrowne's perspective or that of the author of the article he cited, but what I do know is that questions of monarchichal origin are quite separate from the question of the thread so perhaps I should have responded to both him and you.
I suppose. The monarchical topic should indeed be a separate one. One of which I am very much interested in because there should be an explanation for the name Oba in the title of the King

I don't know of ikwerre but Anioma is made up of 13 ethnic nations of which 3 of them are not Igbos

they share No history, name, language, way of life, culture with Igbos yet some people are making comparisons here ??

Even names of gods are completly different

Bini can claim not to be Yorubas, it does not change the fact on ground.

All I am doing here is for people to not try and change history.

Edo and Yoruba share more than just names, in terms of gods, politics, food, words etc even to dynasty so with is the silly comparison here

It's funny how the same people who castigate Igbos for trying to annex Ikwerre and Ika who are more than related to Igbos in almost every ramification see the need for Edos to see themselves as Yorubas even though they share nothing in common other than a shred of history.

MacLovington: Alj Harem & Co,

I think PhysicsQED and others thoroughly exhausted this topic sometime ago.

Even though I am a yoruboid Edo, one cannot claim that Edos are Yoruba people.

Considering their proximity to each other geographically, no doubt there was migration and mixing between both over millenia.

Even if we assume that Izoduwa/Ododuwa & Oranmiyan were pure Yoruba(which is most unlikely), the Benin royal family descending from a Yoruba dynasty does not make all Edos Yoruba.
The Swedish Royal Family is French but all Swedes are not French. The Windsors/Saxe Coburg Gotha are Germans but all Welsh/Irish/Scots(the English being mostly a mix of Angles/Jutes-Danes/German saxons/Normans) are not Germans. Examples abound.
Well said, I share your sentiment as well.
CultureRe: Do Edo (Bini) People See Themselves As Yorubas? by aljharem(m): 4:48pm On May 26, 2012
PhysicsQED: @ alj harem, if we all agree that the Edo monarchy is from Yoruba, rather than Egypt, Sudan, or Mecca, how does that relate to the threadstarters topic? Any Yoruba ancestry would be from nearly 1000 or more years back and would not be particularly relevant to the ethnic makeup of the group.
PhysicsQED you of all people should know my position on this sort of topic

1. I don't believe that Yorubas or any group in Nigeria came from Egypt, Sudan etc It is really for those suffering from complex issues.

2. I did not want to post initially but was urged to when I read Papabrown's post that suggest that Bini account of history is for facts than fiction compare to the Ife account. That sir I do not subscribe to because Ogoso dynasty is exactly the same story as Oduduwa dynasty in terms of both of them falling from the sky. Also talking of Eweka etc

3. Yoruba ancestry is in prospective. When you talk of Yoruba ancestry do you mean Ife or what ?

4. Yorubas as you well know don't claim, please by all mean everyone can bear their ethnic make up, all I did was to call those trying to change history to order.
