Priestesses of deities also wear the beads that are always colourful as part of their regalia. They also use the waist beads laced with charm s for birth control. The maiden dances (Aban) also wear the beads doing dance to give a graceful hip movement when they dance.

Waist bead in today’s fashion is relegated, ladies have a preference for western costumes such as belts, chains, g-strings to the waist beads. The culture of waist bead is going down rapidly to extinction. Religion and other spiritual reasons have been adduced for the neglect, however it must be pointed out that waist bead usage as practiced in the past is an essential element of African body adornment that is harmless and meaningful a pride and precious item which should be encourage to day.

Hmmmmmm...Biney Zoo...A stone throw from my house back then in Surulere,Yaba....The zoo just shot down as we started noticing then that the animals were taken away bit by bit....I think the last animal that was taken away was the Monkey....Its been shut down for close to 15yrs now if am not mistaken...One of the Son or grandson of the owner of the zoo (Desmond or Destiny not sure of the name) was in Nigeria then i guess to see if the Zoon would pick up again but i guess the maintenance rate was too poor and the government wasnt also helping matters as those folks selling clothes in Yaba had started keeping some of their wares in some part of the zoo back then....

I miss that zoo cause that was where and the only place i saw wild animals live and was also a nice place to visit especially on Sundays after church....If only Government can do something about our natural and wild life zones.

This is not new. If you want to see more of this, come to ojuelegba and yaba in the early hours of the day arround 5 and 6 am. You will see a lot of them re-engineered to carry heavy loads mostly tokunbo clothes to tejuosho cloth market. At times you see the conductor sitting on the bonnet controlling traffic for the driver.
