He won in 7 northern states which showed the North is not as tribalistic as you think. Now going to the south ; In the west GEJ won in ALL THE SOUTH WEST STATES except EKITI which went to ACN. GMB could not get 25% votes in the SW!!! Is that not a shocker? The SW voted massively for GEJ. In the SS AND SE it was a massive win for PDP yet CPC recorded votes in the tens of thousands there. When we Juxtaposition with the 2015 election result keeping in mind the merger of CPC with ACN and the discontentment of the populace with the GEJ led administration, we will realise that the election results from the North were as expected the only surprise GEJ being able to still pull over 15% of votes there but when we go to the SS and SE we see results that seems to have been cooked. The results there seems to indicate that CPC and ACN combined have NO influence there which is an obvious lie. I will leave you with this analysis.

Let me educate you a bit; Anambra state government followed Okonjo's suggestions and just recently they increased worker's salary by 15% while other states are borrowing money to pay salary. Also, Anambra has enough money that can sustain the state for 4 years.

When NOI made that prediction, she went ahead to propose savings at the centre, state and local government levels. She proposed the Excess Crude Account, the ECA and suggested that margins from the Federal, State and Local Government accounts go into that to save for rainy days.

This plan was opposed by Rotimi Amaechi who was the Chairman of the Governors Forum then. The Governors Forum, led by Amaechi took the FG to court on this, and won the case. GEJ, being the democrat that he is, allowed the rule of law to hold.

In the end the savings went ahead, but it was only in form of savings from the Federal Government- and not the State or LGA, which Amaechi and co blocked.

The Excess Crude Account, which Buhari met, was the funds which he used in his ill-advised bailout plans to state, ironically, States who took the FG to court on grounds of its 'illegality'.

If Amaechi and his cronies had not opposed the plans, Nigeria would have been in a far much more better state, revenue-wise, than it currently is. Do NOT blame NOI. The whole blame falls on APC's Amaechi and members of the Governor Forum who felt it was better to loot than to save. Blame Buhari who felt it was wise to spend that particular money on footing bills of Governors who spent their states' allocation to footing bills for their political parties.

As much as I think President Jonathan was ineffective as president, I think the Economist needs to tone it down with the name calling. Tagging him a buffoon is obviously a way to get more attention and more people to read this article which I must say does not have much (I dare say any) content.
