And nobody here thought of it that the president may want to relieve him because of the health scare Wale had months ago but Wale Edun does not want to rest?

Shocking that no one here considered it.

A real shame.
It's impressive that you brought that FACT up. A lot of people don't look at the bigger picture in the grand scheme of things BUT love useless speculations.

I too thought of that strong possibility about his alleged health status (among other variables) BUT also thought that if the Nigerian President 'Bola Tinubu is gonna relieve Olawale Edun (who did well as a Commissioner in Lagos State), he would do so WITHOUT any rigmaroling. The NEXT Presidential election cycle in 2027 is just a few months away and he has NO time to waste.

INFACT, the new year (2026) calls for the rejigging of his ENTIRE cabinet... Leaving folks like Festus Keyamo, SAN, and some other performers, while moving others such as the Minister of State for Defence Matawalle out of his cabinet.

The Nigerian federal government early Friday morning confirmed strikes by US forces against terrorists terrorists operating in the North West part of the country.

Nigerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed what it described as ‘precision air strikes targeting terrorist positions in Nigeria’s North West region” in a statement by its spokesperson, Kimiebi Ebienfa.

The Ministry in the statement described the strikes by the US forces as as part of structured security cooperation and intelligence collaboration with the United States.

It added that the cooperation includes the exchange of intelligence, strategic coordination, and other forms of support consistent with international law, mutual respect for sovereignty, and shared commitments to regional and global security.

The Federal Government added that the air strikes by the U.S forces were aimed at protecting civilian lives, safeguarding national unity, and upholding the rights and dignity of all citizens, irrespective of faith or ethnicity.

“Terrorist violence in any form whether directed at Christians, Muslims, or other communities remains an affront to Nigeria’s values and to international peace and security.

“This has led to precision hits on terrorist targets in Nigeria by air strikes in the North West,” the Nigerian federal government said in the statement.

The full statement by the Nigeria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs reads: “The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Republic of Nigeria confirms that Nigerian authorities remain engaged in structured security cooperation with international partners, including the United States of America, in addressing the persistent threat of terrorism and violent extremism. This has led to precision hits on terrorist targets in Nigeria by air strikes in the North West.

“In line with established international practice and bilateral understandings, this cooperation includes the exchange of intelligence, strategic coordination, and other forms of support consistent with international law, mutual respect for sovereignty, and shared commitments to regional and global security.

“Nigeria reiterates that all counter-terrorism efforts are guided by the primacy of protecting civilian lives, safeguarding national unity, and upholding the rights and dignity of all citizens, irrespective of faith or ethnicity. Terrorist violence in any form whether directed at Christians, Muslims, or other communities remains an affront to Nigeria’s values and to international peace and security.

“The Federal Government continues to work closely with its partners through established diplomatic and security channels to weaken terrorist networks, disrupt their financing and logistics, and prevent cross-border threats, while strengthening Nigeria’s own security institutions and intelligence capabilities.

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will continue to engage relevant partners and keep the public informed through appropriate official channels.”

According to a private source familiar with the military deal between the US and Nigeria, the US will be allowed to conduct UAV airstrikes against terrorist targets inside Nigeria, the scope only include unmanned aircrafts (UAVs), not fighter jets or bombers.

The American counterpart will mainly fill the ISR gaps of the Nigerian army with manned and/or unmanned aircrafts, and will likely (still unconfirmed) use the Kainji Air Base in Niger State as a launchpad.

The Presidency has dismissed reports that the Chief of Staff to the President has been replaced.
In a statement issued by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the Presidency described as false and misleading claims circulating on social media that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had replaced his Chief of Staff, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, with his Principal Private Secretary, Hakeem Muri-Okunola.

There is absolutely no truth to this story. We advise Nigerians to disregard it entirely.

The Chief of Staff remains in his position. The Principal Private Secretary likewise remains in his role. Hakeem Muri-Okunola has not replaced Femi Gbajabiamila as Chief of Staff.

The viral claim is a fabrication by mischievous purveyors of fake news whose sole aim is to create disharmony within the government.

US launches 'powerful strikes' against Islamic State in Nigeria, says Trump
14 minutes ago
Jaroslav Lukiv

The US leader described IS as " terrorist scum", accusing the group of "targeting and viciously killing, primarily, innocent Christians".

Trump said the US military "executed numerous perfect strikes", while Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth said he was "grateful for Nigerian government support & cooperation. Merry Christmas!"

The US Africa Command later said the strikes were carried out in co-ordination with Nigeria in the Sokoto state. Separately, Nigerian Foreign Minister Yusuf Maitama Tuggar told the BBC it was a "joint operation".

Tuggar did not rule out further strikes, saying this depended on "decisions to be taken by the leadership of the two countries".

In November, Trump ordered the US military to prepare for action in Nigeria to tackle Islamist militant groups.

Are Christians being persecuted in Nigeria as Trump claims?
'We fear for our souls' - Nigerian farmers need armed guards to protect them from jihadists

In his post on Truth Social late on Thursday, Trump said that "under my leadership, our Country will not allow Radical Islamic Terrorism to prosper".

In his warning back in November, the US leader did not say which killings he was referring to - but claims of a genocide against Nigeria's Christians have been circulating in recent months in some right-wing US circles.

Groups monitoring violence say there is no evidence to suggest that Christians are being killed more than Muslims in Nigeria, which is roughly evenly divided between followers of the two religions.

An adviser to Nigerian President Bola Tinubu told the BBC at the time that any military action against the jihadist groups should be carried out together.

Daniel Bwala said Nigeria would welcome US help in tackling the Islamist insurgents but noted that it was a "sovereign" country.

He also said the jihadists were not targeting members of a particular religion and that they had killed people from all faiths, or none.

President Tinubu has insisted there is religious tolerance in the country and said the security challenges were affecting people "across faiths and regions".

Trump earlier announced that he had declared Nigeria a "Country of Particular Concern" because of the "existential threat" posed to its Christian population. He said "thousands" had been killed, without providing any evidence.

This is a designation used by the US state department that provides for sanctions against countries "engaged in severe violations of religious freedom".

Following this announcement, Tinubu said his government was committed to working with the US and the international community to protect communities of all faiths.

Jihadist groups such as Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province have wrought havoc in north-eastern Nigeria for more than a decade, killing thousands of people - however most of these have been Muslims, according to Acled, a group which analyses political violence around the world.

In central Nigeria, there are also frequent clashes between mostly Muslim herders and farming groups, who are often Christian, over access to water and pasture.

Deadly cycles of tit-for-tat attacks have also seen thousands killed - but atrocities have been committed on both sides.

Human rights groups say there is no evidence that Christians have been disproportionately targeted.

Last week, the US said it had carried out a "massive strike" against IS in Syria,

The US Central Command (Centcom) said fighter jets, attack helicopters and artillery "struck more than 70 targets at multiple locations across central Syria". Aircraft from Jordan were also involved.

PoliticsRe: Active Individual Taxpayers In Nigeria Less Than 10 Million  —  Taiwo Oyedele by AlphaTaikun: 5:06am On Dec 26, 2025
deji17:
Active individual taxpayers in Nigeria less than 10 million  —  Taiwo Oyedele

The Chairman of the Presidential Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms Committee, Taiwo Oyedele, has said that Nigeria has fewer than 10 million active individual taxpayers, underscoring the country’s narrow tax base and the urgent need for data-driven reforms at subnational levels.

Oyedele made the assertion on Tuesday while delivering a keynote address at the Tax Reform Summit 2026 in Lagos, themed “From Reforms to Results: The Lagos Implementation Roadmap, Creating a Tax Environment that Works for All.”

The summit was convened by the Office of the Special Adviser on Taxation and Revenue in collaboration with the Lagos State Treasury Office.

According to Oyedele, improving the quality of data for fiscal and economic planning is critical to expanding the tax net, particularly in Lagos State.

He said reliable databases covering property registers, individual taxpayers and fiscal operations were essential for effective revenue mobilisation.

“In Nigeria today, the number of active individual taxpayers is under 10 million for the whole country. I think that is the number we should have for Lagos State alone, and we need to make that possible,” he said, adding that meaningful tax reform cannot be achieved without credible and comprehensive data.

Oyedele also highlighted the significant revenue potential of property taxation, describing it as one of the most stable but underutilised sources of income for states and local governments. He said Lagos could generate up to ₦1 trillion annually from property tax if the sector’s potential is fully harnessed.

He explained that if just two million properties in Lagos were taxable, with an average value of ₦100 million and a modest tax rate of 0.5 per cent, the state could raise ₦1 trillion yearly.

According to him, such revenue could be reinvested in infrastructure and public services, creating a cycle of growth and increased property values.

The tax reform committee chairman stressed that success in property taxation depends on proper property enumeration, accurate valuation, transparent administration and predictable enforcement.

He also called on Lagos State to lead by example in adopting harmonised tax laws and strengthening legal frameworks for collaboration among revenue-collecting agencies.

Oyedele disclosed that a model tax harmonisation law drafted by the committee and the Joint Revenue Board had already been adopted by states such as Ekiti, Zamfara, Anambra and Kano, urging Lagos to follow suit.

10 million is way too low for a country of an estimated 250 million hence the newly harmonised Tax Reforms.

However, the war on terror MUST be a holistic one involving multiple countries collaborating with the BIGGER and more militarily, tech powerful countries (such as the United States, Franch, Britain, China, etc), from here on out because ONLY one country such as Nigeria can't do it alone in this Jihadi, guerilla-style insurgency. Maybe you've not understood me. There is of course widely publicized cooperation, which is really just a scheme for Nigeria to save face.

In reality, I can guarantee that Nigeria is not carried along when it comes to tactical operations because the risk of leakage is known to be very high.

That is to say, the partners may agree that they are working together but when it comes to strikes, Nigeria will not be informed before hand of the specific location, time or manner of attack. This I am sure of.
I get your point of view about potential operational leakages especially by some insidious sympathizers of these non-state actors.

Local geopolitical dynamics would definitely dictate who among the Nigerian Military combatants the United States will work with. They are using precision-guided weapons and coordinates to target those Jihadi creeps so, there would also be less physical casualties while troops on the ground are carrying out mop up operations after targeted strikes.

But then again, they will all do what is militarily BEST for everyone and mankind in general because these Jihadi gangsters and the foreign Fula militia bandits and foreign Tuareg Lakurawa bandits from Northern Mali and Niger Republic disturbing and displacing indigenous Nigerian communities are the WORSE kinds of species on earth today along with ISIS, ISIL, Al-Shaabab, Al-Qaeda, etc.

The foreign minority Fula militia bandits from the Sahellian countries of West Africa have done the BIGGEST damage to the psyche of several indigenous Nigerian ethnic communities in the Hausa North West States, the Western States, the Middle Belt States and parts of the Niger Delta region (Edo and Delta States) including Northern Enugu State and parts of Ebonyi State in the East than any ISIS-backed Jihadi terrorists. In 2014 when Goodluck Jonathan was the President, the Global Terrorism Index declared the Fula militia bandits as the 4th deadliest on Earth... this was in 2013/2014! These Fula militia bandits and their local collaborators should be feeling more of the HEAT followed by the Jihadi gangsters called BH and ISWAP in the Lake Chad Basin region of Nigeria, Chad, Northern Cameroon, Niger.

The war on Jihadi terrorists will NOT be over until targeted airstrikes are used on the BIGGEST Jihadi terrorists called JNIM in the West African Sahel who are operating in over half of Mali, over half of Burkina Faso and Niger Republic posing even more danger to the Northern parts of Nigeria, Benin Republic, Togo, Ghana, etc. JNIM is even deadlier than BH or ISWAP in terms of the area of coverage. I MUST commend the Nigerian Military hugely (things could have been WORSE in Nigeria) for maintaining a way more stable country than Mali, Burkina Faso and Niger Republic have done. These 3 French-speaking countries ruled by young and inexperienced military dictatorships have deteriorated in terms of security ever since the Russians got involved.

“The situation changed dramatically when former Kaduna State Senator, Shehu Sani, reposted the image with the caption: “Until now, I have never seen a person contesting to be Vice President. “It is difficult to believe that this was a coincidence. One may reasonably suspect a coordinated effort between Senator Sani and Babangida Abubakar Haruna, with the latter initiating the post and the former stepping in as a seemingly neutral observer to amplify it.

President Trump has ordered the United States Military to carry out numerous strike on ISIS on Nigeria soil. President Trump has warned he will continue to carry such strike if Christians continue to be persecuted by terroroist.

President Donald Trump said Thursday he’d ordered a deadly strike on Islamic State terrorists in Nigeria, who he has accused of persecuting Christians in the country.

“Tonight, at my direction as Commander in Chief, the United States launched a powerful and deadly strike against ISIS Terrorist Scum in Northwest Nigeria, who have been targeting and viciously killing, primarily, innocent Christians, at levels not seen for many years, and even Centuries!” the president wrote on Truth Social.

"I have previously warned these Terrorists that if they did not stop the slaughtering of Christians, there would be hell to pay, and tonight, there was,” he went on. “The Department of War executed numerous perfect strikes, as only the United States is capable of doing.”

"Under my leadership, our Country will not allow Radical Islamic Terrorism to prosper. May God Bless our Military, and MERRY CHRISTMAS to all, including the dead Terrorists, of which there will be many more if their slaughter of Christians continues,” the president concluded.

CNN has reached out to the White House for additional comment.

Trump has focused for the last several months on the plight of Christians in Nigeria, including calling in November on his secretary of defense to “prepare for possible action” and warning the US would enter Nigeria “guns-a-blazing” to protect the Christian population of Africa’s most populous country.
