What if you have Switched to Tier 2 VISA. Can you still get the refund? Family of 3
It’s better you apply before switching or on the verge of switching.

However, if you have switched, you can try your luck and apply. After all, there is no harm in trying.

hello everyone please can my white girlfriend in the uk get me a work visa as a carer so that I can join her. thanks
She ‘can’t get you’ a work visa in that sector but can do some leg work for you as per info and knocking on doors.
However, there are other visa routes you can latch onto to get here, since she’s your GF.
Intentionally start using partner in place of GF and be more committed to her - e get why.

Good day seniors in the house. I just got my student visa and I would study in Dundee Scotland. I need y’all advise on how to get a job (anything that can put some money in my pocket for the now) haven’t worked 9-5 for many years now. I would actually want a driving job because driving is one of my hobbies. I know it wouldn’t be easy and I’m prepared for the worst. Any hint or advise please. God bless y’all.

Hello everyone that has successfully crossed to UK. Can you guys help in dropping any nursing homes /NHS offering COS if you know any?

It has been a tug of war since all these agencies hijacked the program and the amount they are calling is too high. Even if one could afford the fees, what is the assurance that it is not a scam.

Google is still your best bet but couch your words in the search bar properly for optimum result. Also, YouTube is a very useful tool.

This is a research you want to embark on, so, treat it as such - your pen and paper.
Do this for sometime and you would be amazed at the amount of knowledge you would gather

Hi guys, I posted sometime ago (other miniker) about issues with my company because I wasn't able to drive and how they threaten to sack me at any slight instance including feedind a dog thrice instead of twice. It hasn't been easy for me. I have been trekking in the winter to see clients and never complained yet my company never cease to threaten me of sack for the most trivial of issues. They constantly remind me that they are doing me a favor by keeping me cos I wld have been long gone to my country the moment they noticed I cldnt drive. They refused to renew my ID card and didn't give me the training they give to other staff.

I was told by my South African colleague that the company wants to chase me and I should find a new sponsor before I am chased out. Luckily for me, I got a new sponsor and I have a new COS. I have also applied to update my Visa using priority option.

My company sent me a mail that they have booked me ahead for work till the new year. I plan to start at my new place before the Christmas. I responded that they should only book me for a week cos I will be stopping after a week. My contract states that both parties should give at least a 1 week notice before contract termination.

I was told to report to the office and on getting there I laid all my concerns. I have been living in an hotel with my wife and two kids for close to 2 months and the company refused to stand as a guarantor for me to get a house. I also made other concerns. They said its non of their business if my kids are registered with a GP or not or if I have a place as long as I work with them. I maintained my stance that I want to quit but was told I must work for a month before quiting or forfeit the pay for the days I have worked. I said I wasn't going to work and the madam opened the door and asked me to get out. I got up and left.

Later in the day, the husband mailed me that I am breaching my contract that I must work 1 month or they will report me to home office and I will have a limit to stay in the UK. I didn't reply his mail but I have a copy of the contract that states other wise.

Any advice for me guys?
To the best of my knowledge, you still have 60 days to get another sponsor and legally still be in the UK. So, persist and hold your ground gidigba
Thank goodness you already have a new COS and the process is almost completed.
- Join a union, it might come in handy
- No employer can refuse to pay you for work done. Just make sure you have your evidence
- I hope you are in the process of learning the manual driving?

@alphauno, it’s not clear to me why the payslips should start from March of the year. Is it about sending all payslips within one fiscal year?

I intend to use payslips from August 22 to February 23. Hope no issue with that?
Sorry for the late response, I have been busy.

The UK has what is called a fiscal year for some of her services eg a tax year (for 2022/2023, it’s April 6 to April 5). Probably for administrative ease.
In regard to IHS refund, it’s from 31st March or after, of the year under review.
- it’s a staggered payment, so, you only need payslip for the first 6 months and ensuring that you have worked a minimum of 16hours per week.
- yeah, your application should fly

Not only when you work for the bolded and also not only when you are the bolded.
If it’s you alone, good! And if you have dependants, you can do this below.

- The main applicant and his or her dependants can all get a refund that would be lodged directly into the account used in making the same payment initially.
- As long as you work in healthcare; either with care homes, Independent living, Domiciliary, NHS or whatever, you qualify.
- When applying, ensure your application (payslips) timeframe starts from March of the year under review to avoid rejection.
- If the main applicant (MA) and his dependant work in healthcare, they only need an application that will include all their details.
However, If their timeframe isn’t the same, they can decide to do it separately.

Thank you so much or your response, we do not intend to pay for the COS but to request for it and pay for the visa application fees and NHS or any other fees involved. We believe that their reason for saying they wouldn't be sponsoring for the role is the financial aspect, because they are a global company and are one of those that sponsor skilled workers from other countries. Another concern is why do I need to pay for NHS during PGW visa application when my company provides me with private healthcare?
Thank goodness you took the time out to straighten your position even when it was explicit from the first write up.

If I find myself in your position, I would do exactly the same - ask them again and possibly offer to foot the bill of the whole process, AFTER ENSURING THEY DON’T WANT TO FOOT THE BILL.

I am not surprised at your comment because this is how Africans and blacks behave. They do not believe in any services offered by their fellow blacks here; rather they believe in the quackery services offered to them by Indians, Parkistani and the Easter Europeans. So keep up with this mentality and lets see how it will lead to the growth of the black community in the UK.

Anyway, for your information, I teach and coach tax to candidates preparing for ALL the tax exams of the professional bodies that you have mentioned. I live and breathe UK tax laws- even corporation tax laws which are very complex let alone individual income tax laws.

I also have an interesting disruptive project on tax coming up in partnership with a UK University in Birmingham to deliver a Robotic tax Advisor that will interact with taxpayers and advise them as well as file taxes o their behalf autonomously. This project is receiving the backing of HMRC. Yes, is proudly Black project- an initiative that will make human tax advisors jobless as it will use Artificial intelligence to deliver impeccable personalized tax experience and services at a fraction of the cost charged by human advisors.

And maybe the white tax advisors you worship and celebrate, I sat in the class with them to study finance in the UK during my Master degree here and achieved a record high GPA that now white man or Asian has achieved at Birmingham University Finance Department. I also passed my Chartered Institute of Management Accountants CIMA professional exams in a single siting without a re-sit.

Also, you attacked my accounting body in the UK which shows real ignorance on your part of accounting profession in the UK. Please follow this link https://www.frc.org.uk/auditors/professional-oversight/oversight-of-the-accountancy-profession to check on the website of accounting industry regulatory agency in the UK called Financial Reporting Council (FRC); you will see the list of accounting bodies in the UK whose members are authorized to practice accountancy in the country. My professional Accounting Body, CIMA UK is No. 3 on the list.

I would have kept quiet at your missiles of vilification, but I was compelled to correct this malicious de-marketing to keep the records straight. And, sometimes it is good to blow your trumpet, so I have blown mine. Thank you for creating the stage for me to let people know more about me on this platform.

Good morning All,

I will be using Egyptair from Nigeria to the UK this month and would like to be sure on the following.

I will have 12hr 5min stop in Cairo

1. Do I need transit visa?
2. Is any covid process (test, card, vaccination) required?
3. Is yellow fever test required?

Someone just told me about the covid card and I would like to be sure if that's true.

Thanks
You don’t need a transit visa but if you still in doubt, it’s best to confirm from the airline.
And if you are vaccinated, bring your card along. Covid protocols have been relaxed worldwide except in China that’s still draconian in her approach.
As for the Yellow fever test, you can get that done when you part with some few naira (1k or less) right there at the airport, just before boarding.

House Good morning,

Pls I arrived UK A week ago on a work visa, before coming my company where to make accomodation available for me, on getting here i discovered the accomodation is within the facility where I work, and I have booked paid for flight for my family to come over.

The initial plan was when I get here I will look for an accomodation before they coming, but is becoming increasingly hard everyday getting a house in Glasgow, they just have 10 days from departure date.

Can you guys pls advice me, either to push the ticket further to January, Cancel and get refund or use Airbnb if they eventually come.
Your pocket determines quite a lot in this regard - airbnb or flight ticket refund.
Do not house-hunt in desperation and under pressure, you might end up paying ‘mortgage deposit’. cool
If you network aggressively thru friends, colleagues, church or mosque members, you would get a place soon.
I will say take your time to cross your Ts and dot your Is during the hunt, so you won’t make avoidable mistakes like the property energy efficiency, molds, neighbourhood, proximity to schools with ratings etc

NB : ….schools with good ratings etc

Nothing really but if you have your Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR) it means that you're not on the leash of any employer who sponsored your work visa and so you can travel as much as you want. But in a case where you are sponsored for the work visa and you've not clocked a year on the visa but you want to leave work to travel for an occasion that can be avoided, then you stand the risk of your employer feeling unsatisfied with your employment.
Nice one, some don’t know that reality / work environment is a totally different ball game to theory even in saner climes.

I am talking from UK experience and as a IT Professional who has over 15+ years working in corporate London. As I said, it would be wise to read the room and the sort of environment one is in before deciding to exercise any rights during a probationary period. I mean they could have hired you to fill a staff shortage and the next thing you are off on annual leave which they also have to pay for as well as pay agency staff in your absence. As I said it is not a good look. Again shine your eyes and read the room.

A bereavement can occur unexpectedly but anyone on a probationary period really needs to weigh up the consequences of taking a substantial amount of time off to attend to that bereavement because as I said, although you are legally allowed, if the powers that be decide that you aren't reliable enough to keep on then it is curtains down for you.
Never make assumptions based on the law because there are always loopholes. Company's have probationary periods for a reason.

@Koonbey

I presume you informed your employers of your impending holiday and so they were able to make allowances and prep for that as that is something they normally ask about at the interview stage.
You have said it all, say less so as not to sound cliché
TravelRe: Living In The Uk-life Of An Immigrant (part 2) by AlphaUno: 5:45pm On Nov 23, 2022
Gemma11:
Noted.

Speaking from experience, in my old company it was unheard of for someone to go on annual leave during their probationary period. Even if it was the employee's right to do so, it wasn't a good look.

You are on probation - which means one should be doing everything they can to impress their employer in terms of attendence, output and meeting all objectives

Does excercising your right take annual leave during probation actually give the employer the impression that you are actually committed to the job?

In the probabtionary period you don't have the same employee rights as other long term employees they don't need an excuse to let you go as well so even if they felt obligated to allow annual leave.

That is why I always say "Read the room". They will smile in your face and say it is ok but are they really? Or are you just giving them amunition to use against you later in an underhanded way.
That’s exactly one of the angles I considered when I replied the Op but what do I know? cool

Guys, I’m back again. Please help as I’m second guessing this.

So, I had a second stage interview with a company recently. During this interview, the interviewer noted that I am overqualified for the job role and mentioned two other senior roles - asking which I’d love to go for.

I explained that I wasn’t sure if those roles were available within the company as I’d applied for the one available. But I won’t mind taking the more senior role as I could double down and do the junior role when there’s shortage/an extra hand is needed.

He also asked about the salary expectations and I told him I understood the salary offered for the junior position but won’t name a figure since he’s asked about a more senior role (was trying to play it smart make he no go give me junior salary for senior role - if considered).

I’ve read something about people being rejected for being overqualified for roles.

I guess my question is, is this really much of a dealbreaker? (I know it’s their decision but your advise could help for later needs)
So far, you have been smart about your response, you can only hope for the best.

Meanwhile, always ensure you do a detailed research on pay, it’s part of the deal (you can get a good pay based on your negotiating skill) here; unlike in 9ja that the question usually has no impact.

You don’t have to take offence all the time. I never said your take was irrelevant. It was the line I said was irrelevant. I purposely did not dwell on your post as it wasn’t the issue, but since you want to talk, I will just go ahead and tell you. It’s not cool to make negative comment about people’s spouse. Especially when the issue is something serious. Everything no be play. Imagine if the OP use that your line when discussing it with her husband, tell me what the response from her husband will be. You can tell from OP’s post that there is a little sprinkle of something else on it, but that’s not our business, you will just respond to her question and advice her like your sister or brothers wife. Shikina.
I honestly don’t want to indulge you by replying but since you quoting me and already giving labels to my take, I had to set the record straight.
The UK as we know it is a very conservative society and they gladly carry that label at any given opportunity, even celebrating centuries old tradition.
That someone is ‘living and breathing’ a particular place or thing is a negative comment to you.

I wish you well

That line is IRRELEVANT. I don’t think one should throw away their custom/tradition simply because they live or are based abroad. And I am saying this if it’s his tradition.

@Osoderi
Your situation is a valid reason to get some days off from work. And I am not talking about traveling as it’s a very good reason to take a week leave to attend to family situation. People here (I mean the UK people or whites as we call them) won’t think for 2 seconds to call their manager to get some days off to deal with “family emergency” as they like to call it (even if they joined the job a month ago). There are so many areas in your offer letter or contract that talks about calling or speaking to your manager about situations like this (not clearly stated as this, but this falls under emergencies). If I were in your position I would be more concerned as to why I think my manager won’t approve something like this. So speak to your manager, you have every right to take some days off to mourn your Father-In-law. People here will take some days off to mourn their pet or great grand parents, quoting that the person or pet was their source of joy during a trying time in their life ( and I consider that’s to be a very valid reason). How you present your “Second Father’s” passing to your manager may influence his/her decision and I just gave you a hint.

Not something I normally like to comment on but I just can’t ignore for some reasons. If your reason for not attending your “Second Father’s” burial is work based and not family (kids n their needs ), then I think you should do some more thinking. your spouse should not have to start quoting traditions and rules for you to want to attend his father, your father-in-laws burial. I understand that work and finance is very important in our daily existence, but we also need our spouse n family to be happy so that they can celebrate with us when we get those big offers and promotions. Your family should always come first, and if your present manager thinks otherwise (which I doubt), then your main concern right now should be getting a new job with a reasonable manager before January. People here don’t play with valid reasons like this.

Apologies if you feel judged in anyway, but I wrote based on “how I” read your post. Unfortunately, we can only reply by what we read, without knowing the person. Blessings
What an epistle!
Your epistle is relevant but someone else’s take is irrelevant as adjudged by you? Hmmm

Now, since we've left, he is yet to refund our deposit. We've called times severally but didn't pick up, he later blocked my line from calling him. His maintenance guy had notified him that the flat was left in good order.

Kindly advise with which organisation/body I can escalate to, to recover our £775 deposit back. And will I pay for this service? We are based in Liverpool.

Many thanks!
