@AlphaUno..You just might be Speaking FROM A position of privileged without know it. Renting a house now is a different ball game than it was same time last year. The current realities on ground is alarming and you honestly dont want to be in any of their shoes right now.
No, I am not speaking from a privileged position. Na who I be kwa?
Anyways, enough said. If you have all the money in this world to pay for your 1 or 2 years’ rent upfront, please do you.
Seems a lot of folks are in this shoe and are mortified to hear someone speak of their concerns in such ways and not pat them on the back

Those families who stayed months before renting their own place probably paid twice as much for airbnb/hotel per month as they would have in rent. So the cost of staying three months for instance could feasibly have been the cost of rent for six months. So paying for a long time upfront can actually be very prudent financially. Afterall they would still pay the rent anyway.

Some universities are advising students not to resume at all this session because their cities have literally run out of accommodation, so it's not a case of 'perseverance', and it's not desperation that is worsening the housing crisis - there's literally not enough housing for the people in the country and those coming in - it's an infrastructure crisis.

Ultimately, the strategy that will work for everyone differs - let's not be too quick to insult people for taking different routes than we had to.
If I posited that a certain upfront payment is extravagant, so, you expect such extravagant amount to be paid via Airbnb for 3 months?
Think again, who stays in Airbnb for 3 months?
TravelRe: Living In The Uk-life Of An Immigrant (part 2) by AlphaUno: 5:22am On Oct 06, 2022
Call it perspire to maguire but people need to lower their expectations when coming in into the UK. You can’t get in, even with your bags of money, and think everything will fall into place as soon as you arrive.

The desperation, if unchecked, will only worsen the housing crisis.

Stories abound of families who got in and couldn’t get accommodation even after several months. Are they homeless today? No!
They ve been able to get a place eventually without breaking banks or encouraging exploitation in the housing system when trying to outbid others.

Offering a year’s rent upfront as an economic migrant ? No be juju be that!
Anyways, I won’t be surprised when I start hearing 2 years rent upfront angry

Don't say that ooo.... until you walked in that shoe. I am currently looking for housing for some people coming in and its truly not easy.

Even with properly planning, me I am on ground yet one month I never see. Before I can view it taken. The ones I even hurried and put deposit I was later turned down that since they are not here yet, then they won't pass referencing. We even offered to pay 6 months and the agency said no. .... you probably don't know the extent of housing shortage and the influx from student and workers visa

Truly until you walk in a shoe, it very easy to call names like money miss road
Been there done that

The UK housing shortage is a cause for concern no doubt as more and more property owners prefer the Airbnb route rather than let out to tenants
I believe the acute shortage is location specific - more pronounced in some locations than others.
My point still stands that if that fund wasn’t available, the individual would still get a property to rent eventually
People should desist from acting desperate as this will only feed the greediness of some landlords and agents.
It will continue to get worse and these property people will continue to devise ‘crazy means’ to extort and exploit intending tenants.
Imagine the case above where the landlord/agent is asking for another 6 months upfront

You're right...if they plan you they have planned you be that.

But I'm curious as to what the possible outcomes are if after contract expiration the tenant does not have 6 months to pay upfront and landlord does not want to renew except 6 months is paid upfront.
The family has a solid case as the law appears to be in their favour but I wouldn’t want the landlord and the agent stain their rent history

I disagree on this, as I have personally experienced this. You don’t want an upgrade to your phone’s operating system (each upgrade requires more space) and when you try to, you told ‘low on space’

Apart from documents and images, are you saying one can store one’s apps in cloud storage and access them on the phone remotely?

You are talking from your secure housing...wait until you are in that position where you are homeless in foreign, cold (literally) and unfriendly land and have no other hope of getting approved to rent any place including one room..
Been there done that

I will gladly place a bet on this, that if the individual in question, had no recourse to such fund, he would have found a more cost less alternative(s)

Planning is a continuous mental exercise and also in phases. The beauty of it all is that it’s never to late to plan - just recalibrate and go thru the planning process b4 taking further decisions again.

Holding fee ke?
If I have paid the rent, the house is mine for that period I paid for. Why pay holding fee for my house. Except after contract expiration the landlord refuse to collect the one month rent in which case they should keep staying till they get another place.

Is it legal to just boot someone out after contract expiration if the person was will to continue on a monthly rolling basis?

Will they tell the court that they are looking for 6 months upfront hence the quit notice?
The bolded is what will happen. And I’m sure they will still knock his referencing off with one excuse or the other.
All in all, 6 months upfront is what they are after

Imagine presenting a UK guarantor who’s a
Citizen
Home owner
And a professional employed by a government agency
And they still fault the referencing.

If dem no wan give you dem go gather impediments put for your front by all means

Regular embassy customer cum travellers know that experiences ‘yapa’ in visa processes. Better be prepared than not

The burden of proof is on the potential visa applicant. In other words, you are required to prove your case with all what you ve got

In this day n age of fake documents, providing or not providing all document evidence isn’t a guarantee for a visa but better to provide than not provide to save yourself the stress, financial and time costs involved in the process.

with the negative reputations 9ja has garnered over the years, we have been conditioned to go the extra mile to prove our cases - reason they treat the green pali differently @ airports

They already have their visas issued so I don’t see any issue except at the POE (point of entry) where you might be required to access maintenance fund directly on your mobile banking app.
So, any of the parent’s account should do since you guys both wrote UKVI a financial consent letter.

I know someone who had to paid rent for a full year in advance to get a flat. Almost £15k paid upfront for some dingy apartment. International students are being massively exploited, unfortunately, not everyone might get to reap the rewards after the huge expense.
Such individuals are only feeding their greedy appetite when they pay such money.
The individual was not properly advised or just acting like a ‘money-miss-Road’. No insult intended please.
In some areas, that’s mortgage deposit faa!!

hello people. please i need some answers. when we first got into the uk, we paid our rent 6 months upfront and signed a 6 months tenancy agreement. its one and half month to its expiration and our agent is asking for another upfront payment or we meet the earning criteria for renting the house. My hubby got a job that meets the criteria but would resume within this month, we communicated this to the agent and they are saying we wouldn't pass the referencing because he would still be on probationary period, mind you it is a permanent job that meets the earning criteria. Are they correct? They are now asking for a uk guarantor which we don't have. please does anyone know how we can handle this situation? is there anyway we can rent a guarantor? or should we insist that they go ahead with the referencing when my hubby resumes. i am really confused as we don't have 6 months upfront to pay again and we have no guarantor.
They are just being smart by half with that probationary excuse after knocking off their initial excuse of earning criteria.
NOTE Provide evidence that your hubby won’t be on probation when he resumes, they will still come up with something else

All they want is 6 months upfront

Alternatively, look elsewhere to rent since you now have a rent history

Should you go ahead with the referencing, dem go ‘chop’ your money (holding fee) when you fail referencing

Yes, they do rent guarantor and it’s totally legal. Google will be a good guide should you decide to rent one

Hello everyone!
Please is it advisable to bring kids 7,5&3 from Nigeria to the UK with the unaccompanied minor flight ticket plan? They're coming to join I and my spouse on a dependents visa, I and spouse came in 2months ago, I'm the student, we're trying to cut down on travelling cost...

Any thoughts on this will be greatly appreciated, thanks as you share.
One of you should go and bring those kids. If you had a teenager among them, it would have been a bit easier but they all under 10 years.

Hello People, what a job Yall have done here. It feels so good to read about everyone's experiences. I will be very happy to get your inputs in my situation.

This November, I'll be getting married to my fiance who's a nurse in the Uk, and hopefully join her by January. We want to have just the traditional and court wedding at this time. We'd like the court wedding to take place in Asaba, but I saw on the ministry of interior's website that only marriages conducted at the Federal Marriage Registries are recognized and legal.

Asaba doesn't have a Federal Marriage Registry, does this mean that if I have my wedding in Asaba, the UK embassy will not recognize our marriage as legal?

I saw there's an option to get married at a local marriage registry and afterwards, request for a federal marriage certificate via the online portal. I would like to know if anyone has ever done this and how fast is the process of getting the certificate as I wouldn't want unnecessary delays.

Finally, I would like to know what would be considered a strong proof of relationship by the UK Embassy, or would federal marriage certificate and pictures suffice?

Thank you all very much for your kind replies.
Here, the institution of marriage has been simplified and continues to be simplified.
Live-in lovers that we deride in Nigeria, is actually rated here.

You really don’t need a marriage certificate if you can prove a SUBSISTING relationship with your partner (which can be male or female)
The key word is in capital letters.

With or without a marriage certificate, provide
- clear picture evidence of chats between you both spanning a considerable period of time
- clear picture evidence of digital images taken together (no mind my grammar na photo I dey talk about)
- clear picture evidence of receipts, invoices, etc paid for together and bearing both names
- clear picture evidence of anything and everything that binds both of you together
- clear picture evidence of you guys’ social media posts, notifications, images, etc together

NOTE : UKVI doesn’t discriminate marriage certificate, just keep the keyword to heart when gathering evidences by ensuring recent ones are also included.
From now till Jan ‘23, intentionally start doing shits together and keep records

Though, the final decision on what constitutes evidence of civil union is a prerogative of the ECO; if however, ECO isn’t satisfied with what you provided, he or she may ask for more proofs.

Good day my ancestors, thank you for always being there for us newbies. Please I am seriously in need of accommodation in Cardiff precisely a two bed. Any help towards getting this will be appreciated. All what I am seeing online have been taken and the ones that have not been taken are requesting for guarantor. Lexgus430 and others please help me put mouth. Thank you
Forget about all these highbrow online letting agents for now.
If you have young child(ren), visit local letting agents’ offices with them and get talking with their staff about your ordeal.
They like children a lot and use that to Roy
You can be sure that Someone in that office might pity your condition and offer your family , for the sake of your young child(ren), a nice letting offer by relaxing all stringent conditions
The idea is to work on their psychology

Also, where can I get affordable foodstuffs and winter jacket in Aberdeen?
If you ve got a UK bank account, load your account with cash and use your debit card for your everyday transactions.

There are neighbourhood markets that are open to the public on selected days (Sunday market, boot market, so and so market etc) in some towns n villages check them out near you.
-Charity stores are also good for household/clothes but people are of the view that their items are a bit pricey these days.
-Check Lidl for rock-bottom foodstuffs prices (but make sure your spendings per time isn’t too high (less than £25) to avoid VAT - the idea is to encourage frequent shopping.
