Online Media Practitioners Association of Nigeria (OMPAN) has been invited to attend this year’s Diaspora Day slated for Friday the 27th of April, 2018 in Beijing, China.

In a statement signed by Ismaila Yahaya Kana, OMPAN National PRO, the body wishes to state that for the sake of Nigeria; for the sake of bilateral relationship and mutual international development, it would honour the invitation as it’s delegation would be led by the National President, Mr Emeh James Anyalekwa.

According to OMPAN, this invitation no doubt is a testimonial to the growing influence of the online media in shaping opinions by opening up new channels for information dissemination and also affording Nigerians additional platforms for a robust national discursion.


“Let it be on record from this moment on that OMPAN has come to stay and in addition to regulating the online conduct of Online Media Practitioners, it is willing to partner any/all institution(s) both here in Nigeria and in the diaspora that wishes to engender the functional development of Nigeria, Africa and the world at large.” The PRO stated.

The Diaspora Day, organised by the Nigerian Embassy in China is aimed at uniting Nigerians in the diaspora.

Themed ‘Role of the Diaspora in National Development and Bilateral Relationship’ the event is being hosted by Baba Ahmad Jidda, Nigerian Ambassador in China while former Abia State Governor, Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu is expected as the Special Guest of Honour and Keynote speaker.

Also, the duo of Senior Adviser to the Nigerian President On Diaspora and Foreign Affairs, Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa and Chairman House Committee on Diaspora and Foreign Affairs, Barr. Hon. Rita Orji are also being expected as special guests at the event.

Abia First Lady's Convoy In Fatal Accident, 2 Confirmed Dead, Scores

A sad day for all of us

Earlier today, 03/04/2018, a fatal accident involving a vehicle in the convoy of the wife of the Governor of Abia State, occurred along Ururuka Road near Ndiolumbe in Isiala Ngwa South LGA of the state.

The white Toyota Hiace Hummer bus, which was returning to Umuahia after an engagement in Obingwa LGA with some public servants and stakeholders, sadly skidded around a bend before somersaulting several times.

The victims were immediately evacuated to the Federal Medical Centre Umuahia, where two persons were later pronounced dead.

Other occupants of the vehicle, currently undergoing emergency medical treatment, are responding to treatment.

Our hearts and prayers are with the families of the bereaved and those who sustained injuries from the unfortunate accident.

While we mourn with the bereaved, we will do everything possible to ensure that the survivors continue to receive adequate medical attention to enable them recover fully and as quickly as possible.
