PoliticsAbia Crisis: Read Orji Uzor Kalu's Message To Ikpeazu by AmadiAba(op): 7:28pm On Jul 13, 2016
When a former Governor of Abia State, Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu (OUK) on 9th July 2016 published an article with the title “Abia imbroglio: Blame T. A. Orji” on his Saturday Sun column, he did not use Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State as the hypothesis for the article, as against some views that have ensued in some quarters after the article.

OUK was bent on saying that Abia State was one of the finest states from creation but whatever that was happening in the state now should be neck-laced round Chief Theodore Ahamefule Orji’s neck.

PoliticsConfusion Over Buhari's Health Status: Read The President's Letter To The Senate by AmadiAba(op): 6:54pm On Jun 08, 2016
Confusion Over Buhari's Health Status: Read the President's Letter to the Senate - IGBERE TV

There appears to be a very big confusion in the presidency over President Buhari's Health Status in relation to his ear infection and treatment in London.

Presidential spokesman, Femi Adesina had yesterday, said President Buhari isnot in London for treatment.

He was reacting to reports making the rounds that by traveling to London, Buhari violated the Federal Government’s rule that says that government officials will not be paid for foreign medical treatment, unless the case cannot be treated in Nigeria.

Adesina referred our correspondent to the statement he issued on Sunday about the President’s 10-day vacation.

He explained that Buhari did not go to London for treatment but to rest.

Adesina said, “You can check the statement we issued on Sunday again. The President did not go to London for treatment."

However, in a letter to the Senate, President Muhammadu Buhari, yesterday, told the the Red Chamber thatVice President Yemi Osinbajo will act on his behalf as President for the 11 days he would be on medical vacation to the United Kingdom.

In the letter to the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, President Buhari said he was writing in line with Section 145 (1) of the 1999 Constitution, as amended.

According to the letter, which was read at plenary yesterday by Deputy President of the Senate, Ike Ekweremadu, who presided, the President said he would be away from June 6 to 16.

The letter read: “In compliance with Section 145 (1) of the 1999 Constitution, as amended, I wish to inform the distinguished Senate that I will be away on a short medical vacation from June 6 to 16, and while I am away, the Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, will perform the functions of my office.

“Please, accept, as always assurances of my highest esteemed consideration.”

It would be recalled that President Buhari had, last week, visited the Aso Villa clinic, where he was treated for an ear infection.

The presidential spokesman, Femi Adesina, had however, claimed that the President was hale and hearty, thereby casting doubts on the rumours.

However, Adesina made a U-turn last Sunday, and admitted that President Buhari had an ear infection and would, therefore, travel to the United Kingdom for a 10-day medical vacation.

JUST IN!!! Buhari Declared Physically & Mentally Unfit to Rule Nigeria - Igbere TV

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has berated President Muhammadu Buhari, and declared that he is not mentally and physically fit to rule Nigeria.

The opposition party whichtook to its Face Book page on Wednesday said the President and his party, the All Progressives Congress, APC, have failed to actualise most of their campaign promises.

PDP recalled how the President Muhammadu Buhari-led party among many other campaign promises in 2015 said it would make the value of the naira equal US dollar, stating that the opposite has been the case, one year after.

“The APC led government under President Muhammadu Buhari marked one year in office on the 29th of May 2016, the questions on the lips of every Nigerian are;

“What has Buhari/APC led government achieved this past one year? Has he actually fulfilled any of his campaign promises to Nigerians.

“Are Nigerians savouring the much talked about CHANGE promised by the government.

“Is Buhari mentally and physically ready to provise a purposeful leadership,” the party queried.

PoliticsRead What Ex-gov Orji Kalu Just Said Now About ND Avengers & Buhari by AmadiAba(op): 10:19pm On Jun 06, 2016
Dialogue with NDA, Kalu Tells Buhari

Eminent player in the oil and gas industry and former Governor of Abia State, Dr. Orji Kalu has appealed to the Niger Delta Avengers (NDA) to cease fire as bombing of oil installations will not solve the challenges facing theregion, adding that constructive criticism, dialogue, sheathing of swords and, if necessary, compromise, are the best approaches and strategies in fighting for a good cause.

According to Kalu, who is the Chairman of Slok Nigeria Ltd, a leading indigenous company operating in the upstream sector of the Nigerian oil and gas industry, the nation’s economy is faced with enormous challenges including the fall in crude oil price and as such should not be subjected to these preventable internal security issues.

Addressing a select group of journalists in Abuja on Monday, Kalu said, “the Nigerian oil and gas sector is undergoing multifaceted difficulties. At the moment, vessel owners are finding it challenging to survive due to the fall in oil production necessitated by the slide in crude oil price and high production cost.

“Our company had in the past few months adopted strategies aimed at cutting cost in order to sustain our labour force. As a person, I derive pleasure in providing employment opportunities and wealth to the teeming population.

“I am sad that despite the difficulties in the oil and gas industry, the NDA are blowing up oil installations and vandalizing pipelines in their region.

“These unfortunate actions will only set the Niger Delta region backwards as government may have no other choice than to fight back with force.

“In as much as the Niger Deltans have their grievances, the best approach is to convey their misery in a credible manner to the authorities and seek dialogue.

“Government must, on its part, extend the olive branch to the aggrieved Niger Delta people by calling stakeholders in the region to a round-table to identify the way forward including investing in critical infrastructure in the region and also compelling oil companies to give back to their host communities in form of employment, wealth creation and environmental protection".‎

Kalu further tasked government to consider giving Niger Deltans the right of first refusal in the award of contracts for the protection of oil pipelines and installations in the region as they are more familiar with the terrain in the creeks, adding that through such empowerment the relative peace the region enjoyed in the past will be restored. He noted that this approach will be a win-win situation for government, the people and oil companies.

“I must confess that the uneasy calm is negatively affecting not only the likes of Chevron, Shell and other IOCs but also indigenous companies who service the multinationals.

Kalu, while pleading with leaders of thoughts in the Niger Delta to further sensitize their people to the need to embrace peace and dialogue, added that government must live up to expectation by ensuring the sustainable development of the Niger Delta.

The business mogul used the opportunity to extend his heartfelt condolences to the families of the civilians and soldiers who lost their lives in the attack on the military houseboat stationed at Ijere community in Warri South Local Government Area of Delta State last week.

PoliticsBuhari Makes Another Policy Somersault: Tompolo To Return For Pipeline Protectio by AmadiAba(op): 3:29pm On May 27, 2016
In order to find a lasting solution to the renewed militancy in the Niger Delta region, the federal government has agreed to re-engage ex-militants from communities in the region to protect the oil pipelines.

The federal government has also promised to restructure the amnesty programme so as to address the critical issue of neglect by the government and international oil companies, as claimed by the inhabitants of the region.

This is against Buhari’s policy to cancel all pipeline protection contracts with the ex-militants and prosecute Tompolo and others for alleged fraud.
Nigeria’s crude production has dropped in recent times from about 2.2 million barrels per day (bpd) to around 1.4 million bpd due the vandalisation of critical oil pipelines by agitators in the region, a development that has resulted in the country losing its place as Africa’s top oil producer to Angola.

The Muhammadu Buhari administration had, before now, threatened military action against the perpetrators who it had described as economic saboteurs.

But in a statement yesterday by the spokesman of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Garba Deen Muhammad, the federal government announced that it had resolved to work with stakeholders from the Niger Delta region to stop the recent upsurge in attacks on critical oil and gas installations, and to ensure security, stability and economic development of the area.

Speaking at the end of the meeting held in Abuja and attended by prominent Niger Delta leaders and...
