By Femi Aribisala, Lagos. Among the different ethnic groups in Nigeria, the Igbo are without a doubt, one of the most remarkable. So remarkable, indeed, that some have even traced their ancestry to biblical Israel, as the far-flung descendants of Jacob, the Jewish patriarch. Gad, Jacob’s seventh son, is said to have had three sons who settled in South-eastern Nigeria. These sons; Eri, Arodi and Areli, are believed to have fathered clans in Igbo-land and to have founded such Igbo towns as Aguleri, Arochukwu, Owerri and Umuleri. Igbo Genius. Even the bitterest adversaries of the Igbo cannot but admit that, as a people, they are very resourceful and ingenious. Indeed, this has often been the cause of their envy and dislike by others. However, more enlightened non-Igbo Nigerians see this as a cause for celebration. While today, the centre-point of Nigeria’s manufacturing is situated in the Lagos/Ogun axis, there is no doubt that the real locomotive of Nigeria’s indigenous industrialization lies farther afield in Aba and in the mushrooming cottage-industries of the Igbo heartland. Igbo-menIn one of the paradoxes of Nigerian history, the terrible civil war provoked homespun industrialization in the South-East. Military blockade left the Igbo with little alternative than to be inventive in a hurry. While Nigeria as a nation failed woefully to harness this profitably after the war, it has nevertheless ensured that the Igbo are at the forefront of Nigeria’s economic development today. Indeed, the way we disregard “made in Aba” today is the same way we disregarded “made in Japan” yesterday. For those of us who believe against the odds that Nigeria is the China of tomorrow, we equally recognize that the ingenuity of the Igbo is an indelible part of the actualization of that manifest destiny... Imagine the trauma this small girl is being subjected to by one who is supposed to be watching over her. I suspect whoever filmed it had been seeing her molest that child regularly in that location and decided to record it the next time it happened. Shameful and pathetic. Abia state governor Okezie Ikpeazu has told an old pensioner whose pension has not been paid to perish and die in poverty. The drama started when the old woman approached a popular radio station inAbuja, and narrated her plight through an audience participatory programme called BEREKETE FAMILY anchored by Ahmed Isa. Ahmed quickly put a call to the Abia state governor, who asked the woman to come forward to government house Umuahia, but the governor never kept his promise of meeting with the woman, instead security personnel at the Government house pushed the woman away. It did not stop there, he reached one of the governors P.A Mr Eyninnaya Appolos, but this time instead of Mr Enyinnaya to exhibit decorum, he told the woman to perish in poverty to eternity. "Isa, am sure that even ‘ordinary you’ do not have all the time to see everyone you may have given appointment to see you. I'm taking to you on the instruction of the Governor, asking for the contact of the woman, or you guys can bring her to meet the committee. That is the best that can be done. Where she fails to meet the committee, well there is nothing anyone can do, she can perish in her poverty to eternity.” “Isa, if you're really interested in her matter and wants to help her, just have her understand that she MUST be verified by the committee before she will be paid. In that case, she MUST make herself available in Umuahia for verification by the committee. This is how far I can go with you on this for now. " - Enyinnaya angrily told the station “Responsiveness, sincerity and integrity have at no time seized to be the critical attributes of leadership. I am not sure Abains and Nigeria at large expect less from their leader at this time. If a leader publicly say 'COME,I WILL SEE U' , but refused to see the person, will it not be perceived as lies and deceit. As a professional colleague, I thought you will be advising the governor rightly.” - Ahmed Isa Fired Back “Isa, it therefore behooves on you and your Berekete Family to tell the woman to make herself available before the committee in Umuahia this week so she can be verified and get paid alongside others. But if she fails to do so, she can spend eternity in your station. Goodluck to all of you. That was Mr Appolos last a abusive response. The drama rages on air at the station. According to media reports, a messy sex scandal has blown up in the face of the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Deacon Udom Emmanuel. Sources in Awa, Governor Udom Emmanuel’s village in Onna local government area, said the deadly act took place about three weeks ago but information about the calamity is just coming into the open now. The details of the steamy story of gang sex, booze and death are that Chinese construction workers who are currently building a multi-billion naira country mansion for the governor of Akwa Ibom State, Deacon Udom Emmanuel, in his home town of Awa, one day about three weeks ago felt like satisfying the desire of the flesh after being separated from their spouses for months. So the Chinese men reportedly commissioned a local man who worked with them on site to arrange a woman for them to help them ease tension. According to the sources, the Chinese construction workers who wanted escapades were four in all. Their love-vendor brought a local married woman, who they agreed to pay N40,000 at a rate of N10,000 per man. The woman’s name was given as Mrs Mercy Samuel Akpa Umoh of Udo Okpon family in Ikot Ishiet village in Onna local government area. It is gathered that after some negotiation, the woman agreed to sleep with the four Chinese construction workers four the N40,000 with each man taking his turn. Once the fee was agreed, the marathon sex session began. But somewhere into the act, tragedy struck. Former governor of Abia State and senatorial candidate of the Progressive People’s Alliance (PPA) in Abia North, Chief Orji Uzor Kalu, has dragged the National and House of Representatives Election Petition Tribunal to the appellate court over its ruling of August 6, 2015. Kalu and his party, the PPA, as first and second appellants, had petitioned the tribunal, challenging the declaration of Hon Mao Ohuabunwa as the winner of the election. Joined in the suit is the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). The Justice Adeniyi Onigbanjo-led three-man panel had, in its ruling of August 6, turned down the Certified True Copies (CTC) of the INEC report on the accreditation of voters for the Abia North senatorial district election, held on March 28, 2015, which Kalu (Appellant) sought to tender before it. The tribunal had hinged its rejection of the document on the fact that it ought to be tendered by the makers of the report, which is INEC. In the Notice of Appeal, dated August 24, 2015 and signed by Kalu’s counsel, K.C. Nwufo (SAN), the appellants described the rejection of the Certified True Copies of INEC report of accreditation of voters as ‘a gross miscarriage of justice.’ The appellants pointed out three particulars of error in the panel’s ruling, which included; “that the said documents were duly certified by the makers of the documents from the ICT department of the 2nd Respondent (INEC); that the said documents/reports were duly certified by INEC and complied with the provisions of Section 84 of the Evidence Act, 2011; and that the documents being certified true copies, did not require the makers thereof to personally tender same in evidence.” Kalu and PPA, therefore, sought the relief of the appellate court for “an order setting aside the said decision or ruling of the 6th day of August 2015 in Petition No. AB/EPT/SN/5/2015 rejecting the said document in evidence and to replace same with an order of admission of the said document accordingly.” http://www.igberetvnews.com/?p=3246

As a man who was well brought up by his parents and by extension relations, a former Governor of Abia State, Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu has said that he regretted joining politics owing to how his businesses were set back by Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, when the later served as President, Federal Republic of Nigeria, because he told Obasanjo the bold truth. Kalu who was fielding reports to his Media Team across the world, said that the worst side of it was that Obasanjo on seeing that he was bent on telling him the truth as a practicing Christian, used every means illegal to criminalise him. The business mogul said this in a statement issued by his media office in Abuja and signed by Mrs. Rubby Obinna. Kalu said that Obasanjo decided to sully his reputable image before and after he served as governor, because he spoke the bold truth to Obasanjo in a letter he officially sent to Obasanjo dated 25th September 2005. Kalu said in the letter that he forwarded to Obasanjo that four years had passed since Obasanjo was vomiting fire and brimstone in the crusade against corruption and there was no success. He told Obasanjo that the war was make-believe, because Obasanjo instituted the crusade for vendetta. The former governor intimated Obasanjo that both the Nigerian populace and the media were aghast and fade up with the way Obasanjo was going about the fight against corruption. The letter buttressed how Kalu saw the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) under Obasanjo: Its operations were draconian and commando-like. Kalu also frowned at the operations of the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC), saying that both the so-called anti-corruption agencies under Obasanjo negated the Constitution and all that democracy stood for. Kalu questioned Obasanjo why he should institute the two bodies whereas there were bodies whose operations were to look into the cases which the two bodies were formed for. Kalu indicted Obasanjo that while the Obasanjo presidency was making noise in the media of fighting corruption, the whole federal government establishments were allegedly characterized by corrupt practices. Under Obasanjo, Kalu said that corrupt practices multiplied on daily basis. He told Obasanjo that under his watch, the national budget was doctored in connivance with some national assembly members and Obasanjo said that he was fighting corruption. He told Obasanjo of how his aides and ministers looted the country dry and saved the money abroad to the chagrin of the international community. Kalu said that he reminded Obasanjo that while he was busy on the newspapers fighting corruption, he did not do anything to quench the looting spree which he said included former ministers that served under Obasanjo. Kalu told Obasanjo of how he was not after fighting his aides and ministers to stop looting the country, but was using the EFCC and ICPC to chase anybody who told him the truth. He in this line referred to Obasanjo as an extremist-hypocrite who re-awarded the National Stadium contract that was won by a Chinese firm, which was designed to have a Five Star hotel, to a foreign company in Nigeria, and instead of the Five Star hotel built, the contract was awarded five times the price of what the Chinese firm submitted. The former governor referred to Obasanjo’s anti-corruption fight as a turnabout. He questioned Obasanjo to tell the world why the Bureau for Public Enterprises (BPE) was comatosed and in whose hand was the commissions that accrued from the sale of Ajaokuta Steel Company and Delta Steel Rolling Mill, Alaja, were. He asked Obasanjo to defend those businesses as transparent. Kalu said that Obasanjo refused to probe the Ministry of Works even when he had called on his attention that the ministry was a mess. He added that in August of 2005 while on one of his public presentations on the Voice of America (VOA), he challenged Obasanjo to tell the world why he was lackadaisical and nonchallent towards making his assets public. Kalu told Obasanjo that no matter Obasanjo’s denial of owning the Bell University and Bell Secondary while serving as president, he had concrete evidence that those schools were linked to Obasanjo. One salient area that Kalu reminded Obasanjo was the speed with which Otta Farm owned by the later was springing up, whereas as at 1998, Obasanjo wept before Kalu to assist him because he had only N20, 000 as all his savings; a plea that Kalu did not churlish but rehabilitated Obasanjo both in material and otherwise when Obasanjo came out of prison. Kalu said that he asked Obasanjo to tell the world why he occupied the Petroleum Resources since 1999 and refused to appoint a person to mann the ministerial position. He told Obasanjo that he was busy saying that he was fighting corruption when the major deals at the oil sector were manned by Obasanjo’s agents. At the Nigerian National Petroleum Cooperation (NNPC), Kalu said that he asked Obasanjo what efforts he had put in place to check the leakages in that sector with particular reference to crude oil sales and accruing commissions. Kalu told Obasanjo that the economy collapsed under his presidency, but regretted that Obasanjo was fighting him and calling him a thief with such agents like EFCC and ICPC which Obasanjo formed purposefully to witch-hunt dissenters like him, whereas as at 1998 Kalu contributed N500m for the formation of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and gave approximately $1m to Obasanjo election bid. It is no longer news that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) which was established in 2003 by President Olusegun Obasanjo to fight corruption among others was being used by the same administration as a political weapon and an instrument of witch-hunt of innocent individuals that they were at crossroads with the self-serving third-term bid of the Owu-born General.Among those that fell victim ofthe political vendetta was Dr. Orji Kalu, a renowned business mogul of international repute and founder of a leading worldwide conglomerate, Slok Group. When the eminent business figure decided in early 90s to venture into politics, little did he know that he was not only entering a naturally controversial field filled with gossips, cheap blackmail, wickedness, desperation, barbarism among others but also where he will rubbish his hard earned glory and accomplishments in the world of business and philanthropy. However, despite all the barbaric efforts of Obasanjo to pull the strong- willed and courageous Kalu down, the masses who are not only familiar with the former governor’s humanitarian gestures but also beneficiaries of his large-heart and benevolence still hold the entrepreneur in high esteem. If Kalu had known that his passion to serve his people will lead to unsubstantiated allegations of corruption against his person as championed by the EFCC on the orders of the then President Obasanjo, he would have maintained the status quo, as he was already impacting lives and contributing positively to the society through his robust philanthropic activities. The Abia State-born business mogul did not limit his commitment to a fair society by supporting only the less privileged but he has also demonstrated this by authoring books, articles and journals towards the enthronement of democracy and a just society. It is worth noting that having being successful in these selfless initiatives, he would have continued to build his giant strides in the business sector which would have put in him in a far better level other than allowing the likes of Obasanjo victimize him in the face of politics. At least, now, Slok Airline, Hallmark and Southgate banks (subsidiaries of Slok group) are no more and thousands of Nigerians and expatriates lost their jobs and means of livelihood because of the “Order from the Above”. To cut the long story short, we cannot turn back the clock, in essence, today the former governor is referred to as a businessman- cum- politician. For the records and in view of the call in some quarters for the EFCC to speed up the case of corrupt allegations against the former governor, it is imperative to let the world know what led to Kalu’s ordeal in the hands of the anti graft agency. Kalu’s conviction against the third term and unbecoming and unpatriotic agenda of Obasanjo led to his arrest years back by the EFCC on the instruction of “Baba Iyabo”. His encounter with the EFCC is not unconnected to a strong-worded and nationalistic letter written by the former to the latter. In the said letter dated 25th September, 2005, the business mogul challenged Obasanjo on national issues and the latter never responded nor gave explanations. Obasanjo can never see anything good in others. He is fond of humiliating, rubbishing and bad-mouthing people’s accomplishments as he has nothing to celebrate but the monumental fraud that characterized his regime while he held sway as President especially the unaccounted billions of naira spent on the power sector. The Ota farmer has not only set the pace of Nigeria’s development backwards but has also become a laughing stock even among his immediate family members. I THINK ITS TIME WE ALL THROW OUR WEIGHT BEHIND OUK. NON OF THE OTHER CONTENDERS ARE MORE QUALIFIED THAN OUK. The FIFA presidency dream of former Abia State governor, Dr Orji Uzor Kalu, got a boost at the weekend with two executive members of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) endorsing his candidature. Alhaji Yusuf Fresh and Alhaji Ahmed Mu’azu Kawu, who is also the Chairman of the Nigeria Nationwide League (NNWL), in separate chats, supported the ambition of Dr Kalu, but urged him to make a formal request for endorsement to the NFF. According to Fresh, a member of the NFF Technical Committee, Dr Kalu has every right to aspire to the topmost position in world football with his achievement with Enyimba International of Aba while he held sway as the Abia State governor. “I am enthusiastic and happy that Nigerians are starting to show interest in the top football position in the world. His Excellency, Dr Orji Kalu has the right to contest for the FIFA job but he must get the endorsement of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF). “He cannot aspire to contest without the backing of the NFF and if he seeks our support, we shall surely give him,” Alhaji Fresh said, adding: “He has countless of achievements to show from his performance as two-time Governor of Abia State. He made Enyimba what it is today because it was through his effort that Nigeria broke the CAF Champions League jinx. He motivated Enyimba to win the competition twice as well as the CAF Super Cup.” For the NNWL Chairman, Alhaji Kawu, the aspiration of Dr Kalu is not abnormal but he advised that he should go through the proper channel to actualize the dream. “I like the doggedness of Dr Orji Kalu in aspiring to be the FIFA president. Of course, he’s qualified and has the record to back it up. But he has to go through the proper channel, that is seeking the clearance of the Nigeria Football Federation,” he said. Meanwhile, a group under the aegis of Lawyers Group Amnesty International Nigeria; has thrown its weight behind the Orji Uzor Kalu’s FIFA presidency project. In a letter signed by Barrister Aham Njoku, Former President of the Lawyers Group Amnesty International Nigeria and Director Constitutional Watch (CONSWATCH), and addressed to the Amnesty International USA Section Washington Office, 304 Pennyslyvania Ave. SE, Washington DC 20003, the group is mobilising all members of the Amnesty International worldwide to back Kalu’s FIFA presidency project. “I wish to inform you that one of the candidates who is contesting for the position of FIFA President at the forthcoming elections is Dr. Orji UzorKalu. He was the former Governor of Abia State in Nigeria from 1999 to 2007,” the letter began. “He is a transformational leader and a great sports administrator. He is passionate about the development of Football in the whole world as the premier sports for all. His contribution to football and sports in Nigeria and Africa is exceptional,” the letter further read. “I, therefore, urge you most strongly to ask the President of your country’s football Association (FA) to back the aspiration of Dr. Kalu, a perfect gentleman at the said elections. Be informed that I am sending this letter to all our members in 81 countries, including Uganda, South Africa, Canada, Germany, Holland and United Kingdom. Thank you for your support” he concluded. The call for Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu to join the race for the FIFA Presidency is fast gaining momentum with major stakeholders in football adding their voices. Some of the voices are those of former FIFA and CAF Executive Committee member, Dr. Amos Adamu and ex-England International John Fashanu who have thrown their weights behind the candidature of the former Abia State governor, Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu. Dr. Adamu, who spoke from his base in Lagos stated that, the intention of Dr. Orji Kalu to contest is a good development for Africa and the world at large. “It is not out of place to have an African FIFA president as the opportunity has created itself. Dr. Kalu is highly qualified for the position as it takes someone with clout, great personality and managerial acumen to occupy such position as big as the president of FIFA. Kalu has all these, so why not support him for the big assignment. “I want to call on the Nigerian sports authorities to support Orji Kalu, as he is good for the job. I have been in CAF and FIFA before and I know how it works. I can say authoritatively that Kalu is good for the job and if we all put our weights behind him he would emerge victorious.” Adamu, who is also a former Director-General of the National Sports Commission, noted that, Kalu’s qualification for the topmost FIFA job is not in doubt. “He did the magic through Enyimba FC when he propelled the team to Nigeria’s first ever CAF Champions League title. He helped the team to win a second title that had been elusive to Nigeria. “If he is given the opportunity to serve in FIFA as president, Kalu would achieve greatly in global football with Africa getting the most of it in the area of development. “FIFA presidency is all about politics, and Orji Kalu is a very good politician who is capable to withstand whatever antics anybody wants to play at the highest level.” Adamu added that: “What Kalu needs is an organised campaign and enough financial mobilisation to travel around the world to campaign to relevant national federations and continental bodies. Once these areas are perfected the sky is the limit.” On his part, Sports Ambassador and Founder, Football Academy, John Fashanu on Friday, added his voice to the project by promising his unflinching support. Speaking on condition of anonymity, a source close to Fashanu said, the footballer of international repute has been reaching out to people silently and seeking their support for Kalu to emerge as the next FIFA President, adding that Fashanu has been sending messages to his colleagues in the football world to drum support for the African Pillar of Sports. Efforts to reach Kalu’s aide, Kunle Oyewumi, proved abortive as his phones were switched off and he did not respond to text messages.
