Tricks of buying Reinforcement in pcs from small scale sellers..

So I mark out three closest locations to the site where they sell reinforcements and I literally priced at the three locations but they all want to make too much profit on this because I am buying in pcs..

so I priced per tonnage and I divided the number by the rebar in tonnage and they no wan gree some had to lie on the nos in tonnage to my face

One later agreed and insisted I add extra 5k to 10mm because of the nos is far plenty. Me too sha later add the 5k

With this I was able to save around 50k plus ..

the one in which location is far to the site agreed with cheaper transportation rate compare to the one close by

Foundation Set out and Negotiation palava..

so most labour around are the Aboki who specializes in riding okada..

So I decide to go with the guys that mould the block to dig ..They charge me 180k and peg the last price at 90k.. Wahala ..,

I jejely opted for the aboki and spent a total of 70k last last. though they charge 45k at first…

To Achieve this optimization I opted to design the full structure using euro code

I already assumed my Fy=410 and I design using C20 due to site variations

So for this project I mould all blocks using the manual method , I engage two personnel for this I have water readily available in the compound already and enough space to keep the blocks if need be..

Due to the economic of things I bought
Sand 60 Tonnes=360,000
Cement =113 Bags=5350
Labour=1300/ bag
Paid 15# per block to rearrange properly

I will be giving a detailed breakdown of this project for those that may want to start something but are afraid due to the unstable cost of materials.

There's option of using galvanized pipe cheaper than this..

It's better buying, than paying recurring payments .. if you are looking at long term..

but just imagine after installing the site was sealed up or funding issues who cater for the cost

but for small construction project its not advisable trying to get all equipment,tools machinery on a particular project fund's..

I was in an office today and the building vibrated, I asked what happened and was told it does that everytime a heavy truck drives by.

Why should a building vibrate when heavy trucks move around it? Have you experience this before?

The reason for the perception you have comes from the building framing system its either from the sledenerness of the member (sizes of your slab and beam) or the floor system you have in that office maybe its raises floor, flat slab, claypot, steel..

However there are measures to be taken ro determine if this vibration will not have an adverse effect on the building in the long run. I think d max vibration you should experience is around 5HZ

In some places there are some isolators/ dampers installed on your foundation where the building are meant to sit to absorbed this vibration but this problem would have be forseen before the start of project..

How dis vibration occur is the axle load transferred on the road pavement still have some significant value close to your foundation area, you will experience it more if its a bridge thats is infront of the office, and I bet you wont even stay if it was a rail station close to like 3 street far from you the building self..

Good evening house.
Pls, I need a professional advice pertaining to a proposed building (5 storey structure) situated in the mainlands. We just mounted the ground floor columns( 37 in number). Unfortunately, the columns didn't pass the cube test results for 28 days, we got average of 16N/mm² for a grade 25 Concrete.

The Structural Engineer( Consultant) on the project insisted we should run an NDT to ascertain the integrity of the columns. The NDT test done were Ultrasonic and Schmidt hammer rebound tests.

The results for the 2 tests was satisfactory though it was done after the 28 days curing period.

To my surprise, the Consultant structural engineer gave an instruction that the columns should be demolished even when the NDT shows a satisfactory result.

As a contractor, I need advice on what else can be done to be able to further prove my points about the integrity of the Columns as demolition is not the right thing to do at the moment.

Kindly show me sample of your mould in which you placed your sample and how was it cured?

Next time make sure your mould is fully tighten and immerse cube completely in clean water..

Remember to Always run trial mix with supplied material to site and always prevent this caster to determine your mix ratio,

1:2:4 on site will never achieve grade 25 on site unless under strictly control condition in the laboratory..

On the issue of ultrasonic and rebound test , if the team are registered with lagos state materials, then engage a structural Engineer to verify the chart used for the conversion of both data and ask him to write your Consultant to carry out NDT independently on their own remember you will pay the fee to confirm what your own previous team carried out,..pending on this..

Remember he may not allow retrofitting options because project is too young to start retrofitting you may need to count your lost and redo this column as they fall short of the required grade stated.

Its always advisable and the standard is to test for your materials before putting it to use, and when such pass then you proceed to order more from same source after a limited time you retest another set of batch if you are still within limit..

This design requires 410 and the steel is doing 756.9 which is called rest of mind on my part
