firstly Engr. the minimum mix ratio for a reinforced concrete is what I provide to the op and he's not employing d service of a structural engr and from his post you know he's building a bungalow or most a 2 storey building which 1:2:4 is still likely to work or work self

The buckling issue engr is caused when u didn't factor your load rightly and the member can not resist d forces here I didn't choose the column size nor reinforcement...
columns does not buckle by will sir. you can only say next time be sure to ask for the intended use of d structure and conditions

plot size varies .. mention the back of d land and and the front to bank as in L shape and post d measurement here just an overview.. get a surveyor or an Engineer for accuracy..

Nigerian as a country that produces different engineering proffesions which d federal government cannot appoint a civil Engineer as d minister for housing/works to over see issues like this ..more of this will likely continue to happens an engineer can never head d health ministry..

when appointing key roles in our government we don't need to politcalize it use professional who will deliver we have architect builders.. minister of transportation should be a transportation Engineer or someone that study something of relevant that as worked his way up in the field ..

The issue of building collapse is not much related to this we can relate this to urban and regional planning aspect which we lacked in most part of Lagos... The ogun state government is really trying with her urban renewal and the emergence of real estate though dey make d layout small for their pocket and interest ...

The issue of building collapse Start with us as an individual a building is built for a specific purpose don't rent a residential building for office usage because the engineer as factor some live load to it..

The Nigerian Architect and builders should stop claiming they are Engineers they should pls let engineer's do their job for the structural part..

No cheap apartment for pple to stay Lagos is congested and d state keep milking it people dry without catering for housing lastly Lagos is not for everyone..

yes but I think d architect should still correct and resend to the structural engineer for confirmation cause I don't really like to see beam hanging freely within a space the structural engineer will have design like that also and may affect his General arrangement of beam and column position.. op pls follow d advice given to you on the architecture plan here

My suggestion, your supervisor in my opinion is right. Is better to be safe then sorry, at the end is your house. Be wise.

at times we over design due to assumptions.. A good design must be Safe,cheap and economical

Please I need help on rod sizes for staircase. My engineer is trying to use a combination of 12mm and 10mm for the staircase and I have a site supervisor telling me staircase should be only 12mm rods. I’m not sure who’s advise I should follow .

I don't know the span or purpose of the building but I think u shouldn't allow ur supervisor give you advice on reinforcement issues.. he said stairs should only be T12mn shows he doesn't understand some design rules which engineers abide to..

As your Engineer ve suggest if he's the one who made the design use T12 and T10.. 12 for main and 10 for redistribution he should provide the center to center though you might also use T12 all true

The foundation is a pad footing and very coolwith soil with a good bearing capacity.. The beam is a plinth beam it helps to reduce the effective length of the column.. In lay terms..

That beam helps to chain those column together and support loads coming from the top it helps prevent the floor from cracking and helps the foundation against collapse from back fill.. spyder

Talking about millions, I made my first million at 21 and that was just last year. I actually made $10k (3 mill+) doing affiliate marketing. The thing is, I barely set my profit aside cuz i didn't make the whole thing at ones and I was always re-investing. I think my best months was 1k+ and I started with earning $200 in January. It was actually cpa and of course I learnt it from nairaland at first before I started reading from other forums. Funny enough, I spent a lot of it on family and I also purchased a landed property from there (lol, my mom been asking me to start building on it but I understand she doesn't know much about business). I was in my final year last year.

This year I've even completed my service. I've made more than I made last year but I'm trying to test some traffic sources. Testing and testing dey chop my money but this time I tried to have some savings in my account (over a million) and I also have some money parted for investment.

Like my mates, I should be looking for employment after nysc but most employment offers I see do not just attract me. The payment offer is always too small compared to what I earn myself doing little works. Im just gonna put more time into my internet marketing business and diversify into more models, move out of family house, and write some professional certificate examinations. Maybe with more qualifications, I might find offers with better payment or I don't even have to look for any job at all.
