You can check the mortgage thread. Good info there to help getting mortgage. How long have you been in the UK, what’s your deposit size and which banks have you tried?
Close to 2 years
Over 10percent and can even be more if I review the cost of property. Just llyods bank and two brokers. Thanks for the thread you suggested. I’m on it already. Thanks 🙏

All you would get is sub 3%....... Not unless you take a pop at the stock market (long term view)........

Remember, you might get less or more than invested....... 😜

Or lock investment down with monzo for about 2 years (sub 5%)....... Early withdrawal not allowed (even if you cry blood)...... 😝😁

Gurus grin pls is there a safe platform to save and get a reasonable interest apart from the 1.30percent my bank is paying me ?
I tried some brokers and approached my bank too secure a mortgage but all are declining cos I don’t have a permanent status yet. So I am thinking of saving instead and expanding the deposit percentage. Thanks in advance.

The earlier you apply for your re-newal the better . Those people at the immigration office are all out to frustrate the normal process.
Passport Collection date after Biometrics for my re-newal was 23rd March, as I speak PHC office claim they are out of Booklets however If i urgently need same an additional 20k will do the magic in 24 hours.

I was very much pressed for the passport as I had a very tight timeline and had to pay reluctantly, guess what!! same day I picked up my Passport.
what a country!!!!
Thanks bro

Hello guys….
Considering the time it takes to process passport in Nigeria, is it wise to apply for visa with a passport valid for just 5 months… quick response will be appreciated. Thanks

I can confirm this cos I saw him behind me in Heathrow airport and guess what? Baba Dey browse through Nairaland. I just smiled and faced front.

abubarakat:
Stop applying for a while. Everytime you make an application, most of the vendors perform a hard credit search on your credit history. This leaves a mark on your credit file. Multiple applications in quick succession will make you look desperate and potentially in a bad financial state.

If you haven't lived in the UK for long or have credit facilities with a few vendors, your best bet is to apply for credit building cards. When I first arrived in 2017, capital one credit building card was my first card with £250 limit. Immediately It arrived, I started using it for everyday shopping and paid everything in full a few days later. I did this for a few months and got my limit raised to £1,200. A few years later, I now have a credit limit of £12,000 for one of my cards.

Also, you should be using vendors with soft credit check facilities. This gives you a success/rejection probability of your application, if you were to make one.

You should also open an account with ClearScore. Their app gives you an indication of vendors that have you pre-apporved for their cards.

Note to thyself, use your credit card wisely. It is not free money.
Really appreciate this God bless

1. Open a high street bank account (Barclays, Lloyds, HSBC, NatWest)

2. Apply to vote to be added on the electoral roll (Nigerians are allowed to register and vote in the UK as commonwealth citizens)

3. Open a credit file by applying for sim only contract from EE, 3, Vodafone

4. Apply and maintain a good credit card (capital one or your bank account)

5. Check your credit report for free with clearscore, Experian, credit karma, equifax
Capiital one declined the credit card application. Is it because i haven’t stayed in uk for a long time.

@Amazoner01..Register to vote, get a sim only contract from a phone company. Also you can get a purchase credit card(those low or zero interest credit card), use it for your purchases, be disciplined enough refund purchases. Monesavingexpert is a good resource for personal finance literacy. Also I learnt setting up direct debit for bills is another good way.
God bless you sir
