Chimamanda speaks at Creative Writing Workshop held at Golden Tulip Resort Anambra. Award-winning Writer, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie Calls On African Leaders To Raise Future Writers That Will Tell African Untold Stories Joseph Egbeocha (ABS NEWS) Creative writing workshop organized by award-winning writer, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie has ended with a call on African leaders to invest in potential writers who will tell many untold stories about Africa and her people. Speaking at the grand finale of the workshop at Golden Tulip Hotel Agulu, the Anambra-born popular writer said every society needs storytellers without whom humanity will be diminished. The workshop, aimed at inspiring and raising a community of creative writers who will use their writing abilities in solving societal problems, attracted participants from within and outside Nigeria. Chimamanda Adichie, who frowned at poor reading culture among young people said for one to achieve success in literary endeavors, sustained personal efforts at reading wide range of books was needed. Noting that there are many untold stories about Africa, with negative effects on the continent and her people, Adichie said her eleven years old workshop will be sustained to continuously expose young people, especially Ndi-Anambra, to the gains of creative writing. Adichie’s enthusiasts, including the Managing Director of Anambra Newspapers and Printing Corporation, Mr Chuka Nnabuife, and the founder of JohnBosco Onunkwo Foundation, Chief Engineer JohnBosco Onunkwo, said such capacity-building workshop is needed to redirect the youths to rediscover their roles in building a better society, using creative writing. Some participants at the concluded workshop, among whom were Kasimma Chinelo Okani from Achina, Anambra state, Anthony Nonso Dim from Imo state but lives in Germany, and Gloria Mwaniga Odary, a teacher from Kenya, said the workshop offered them uncommon opportunities to tap from Adichie’s wealth of knowledge in literary works, urging government and wealthy individuals to assist in sponsoring and providing needed logistics for the continuation of the workshop. Correspondent Joseph Egbeocha reports that live performance, issuance of certificates to participants, as well as interactive session with Chimamanda Adichie featured in the event attended by Anambra state Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Mr C. Don Adinuba, former media aide to former President Goodluck Jonathan, Dr. Reuben Abati, and other literary giants.

Chimamanda’s Writing Workshop Kicks off in Awka. After ten years in Lagos, the highly acclaimed Purple Hibiscus Creative Writing Workshop hosted by multiple prize-winning novelist and public intellectual, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie has moved to Awka, Anambra State, Adichie’s home state. Almost reminiscent of Thomas Hardy’s ‘The Return of the Native,’ Adichie’s choice to move her workshop to Awka this year in order to give her home state a feel of it has won the applause of the emerging cultural community in Anambra State that had longed for her identification with her roots for years. The Workshop which enjoys the support of the Government of Anambra State opened on December 9, 2019 with participants drawn from Nigeria, Kenya Botswana and other African countries and will be facilitated by Adichie alongside award-winning Zimbabwean writer, Novuyo Rosa Tshuma, renowned author and Director of Ake Literary Festival, Lola Shoneyin and novelist Eghosa Imasuen of Narrative Landscape Press. Participants in the Workshop were carefully selected from the short stories they submitted online on or before November 6 this year. They are assigned a wide range of reading and daily writing exercises with the objective of improving their writing craft and infusing their storytelling with different perspectives. The Workshop will last for five days and end with a literary evening on Saturday, December 14, 2019 at the Golden Tulip Hotel, Agulu Lake Resort. Previous editions of the workshop had been facilitated by Adichie alongside award-winning American novelist, Dave Eggers, the late celebrated Kenyan writer, Binyavanga Wainaina, the National Librarian of Norway Aslak Myhre, NLNG Nigeria Prize for Literature winner, Chika Unigwe and the Poet laureate of Scotland, Jackie Kay. Speaking on the workshop, Adichie said “Lagos has been a wonderful and hospitable home for my writing workshop these past ten years. But I now want from time to time to move the venue to different places and it’s not surprising that I want to start with my own beloved home state of Anambra.” It has to be remembered that the government of Anambra State under Governor Willie Obiano has been receptive to writers and other workers in symbol from inception. Under Obiano’s watch, Anambra is fast becoming the new destination for cultural tourism. Two editions of Return to Idoto, a poetry festival in honour of late Christopher Okigbo, readings by renowned authors, Prof Okey Ndibe and Rudolf Ogochukwu Okonkwo and an evening of poetry known as a 'Flutter in the Woods' organized by Under African Skies, have all taken place in Awka, the state capital in recent years. And quite recently, Governor Obiano made history when he allowed the poet James Eze, to read a poem from his new collection titled ‘dispossessed’ to a full session of his cabinet.

ChimaAdeoye:Not exactly correct. The implementation is being done regionally. In this case Anambra is hosting the one of the southeast. It is a national tax implementation framework. It is not peculiar to just one region. If you noticed from the report, it was the DG of FIRS that came from Abuja to flag of the one of the southeast off in Awka. He will proceed to other regions from here. |

South East Joint Tax Board New TIN Registration System And Consolidated National Taxpayers' Database, Flagged Off in Awka. By Emmanuel Okonkwo The South East Joint Tax Board new Taxpayer Identification Number Registration System and Consolidated National Taxpayers' Database has been inaugurated in Anambra with a call on all to always adhere to taxation law. The new Joint Tax Board National TIN Registration System is a robust application developed to assign Taxpayer Identification Number, TIN, to all potential corporate and individual taxpayers that have been uniquely identified and registered by identity management agencies such as Corporate Affairs Commission, CAC, National Identity Management Commission, NIMC, and Nigeria Interbank Settlement System, NIBSS. In his speech, the Chairman Joint Tax Board, Mr. Tunde Fowler explained that the objective of the new JTB TIN system is to integrate with relevant agencies and leverage on already captured data, deploy analytics to discover hidden and correlating trends and patterns that could lead to better visibility and increased Internally Generated Revenue, IGR, for all tiers of government, and as well reduce the burden of manual data sorting. Mr. Fowler said that the new TIN Registration system of the JTB is also aimed at making tax payment easier for taxpayers across Nigeria, and called on South East geopolitical zone to key into the initiative in order to help in enhancing the revenue and development of the country. Contributing, the Executive Secretary, Joint Tax Board, Mr. Oseni Elamah disclosed that the system brings innovation, convenience and transparency to tax authorities and taxpayers by enabling tax authorities efficiently manage their Taxpayer base, while enabling taxpayers to visualize, retrieve and update their tax status at the comfort of their homes. In a remark, Governor Willie Obiano represented by his Deputy, Dr. Nkem Okeke who described the new system of tax payment as a welcome development, said that Anambra state had already initiated a similar measure which is the Anambra Social Service Identification Number, ANSSID, to ensure full compliance of the state residents to tax payment.
