KikkyQ: You dont need a transit visa. Bear in mind that the flight is not very comfortable. Also for your layover, you are given access to the internet for only 1 hour. Bear this in mind if you are going to be there for a long time. You can give other airlines a shot like lufthansa. Thanks |
Travel › Re: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 20 by Amicableoga: 10:40am On Oct 03, 2021 |
jollytravels: @Amicableoga...You do not need any transit visa if you are going via cairo have taken it via london and USA before and i slept over in the hotel there and the airline arranged all that because is part of the ticket. Check your ticket for the hours of layover if is more than 11hrs then the airline will be responsible for your stay at no charge and to even be doubly sure go to any Egypt air ticket office they will tell you you do not need any transit visa. Thanks so much, the layover is 4hrs before moving to Toronto. Egyptair is cheapest now, need to book their flight . |

AKANLE2: Good evening,I observed with dismay that some of the delay am seen this day are Applicants with self sponsors with refusal note of personal assets and financial status
Please is it difficult for self sponsors' Applicant to get approval.Must someone looks for sponsors when applying despite been a matured student going for PGD or Masters programs I got PPR as self sponsored. I can't say my application was superb, l know l did my best and l left the rest for Got. To prove home ties and assets, all my siblings reside in nigeria and never travelled before. I have a good job after my undergraduate degree, so the salary reflected on my bank statement. I also got study leave offer with half and a clause was attached that l must return after my studies to work for 2year with them. My SOP was well structured with subheadings. All l can say is that, God did it for me. I submitted only my account statement and the loan letter from mpower financing. |

How I sent my Passport to Abuja.
I did my Biometrics in Lagos but I sent my passport to Abuja, So I had to pay a transmission fee of NGN 8,920 to this account CANADA LOGISTIC COLLECTION ACCOUNT (a/c no 0065165839) sterling bank.
I bought a fresh brown envelope and added the following documents, so follow:
- Your International Passport itself (That your passport !!)
- Print only 1 copy of the transmission fee payment receipt and put in your envelope
- 2 copies of your passport data page (I printed it in colored copy)
- Those stapled papers that was given to you after the completion of your Biometrics (put them as it is [original copy] not the photocopy)
- The PPR letter (1 copy)
- 2 copies of the Consent form (I filled and signed the second page only) . Download the consent from here: https://www.vfsglobal.ca/canada/dominicanrepublic/pdf/Consent-Form-TTS-English.pdf
- A plain sheet of paper where you can write your address and phone number (this is not really needed though, but I added it) NOTE: I paid for 2 ways Courier at DHL and insured it to and fro
2 courier means: As I am sending my passport to Abuja, I want Abuja to send back my STAMPED passport to the address I stated on the Courier.
, Please how many days did it take them to return the passport? |

Please check that your vaccination status is duly uploaded by your vaccination centre, on the NPHCDA before embarking on your journey. You can do so by scanning the bar code sticker on the vaccination card.
You can download barcode scanner on your phone, from Android or Apple playstore After scanning, it says sorry your barcode is not yet uploaded but you can input ur vaccine code number, which l did and my details showed as fully vaccinated. It is ok like that or am l to tell them to also upload the barcode? |

Lekiboboe: While you await response from others
These are my own suggestions
As a fresh HND holder, you are expected to go for a POST GRADUATE CERTIFICATE program related to your Architecture HND degree e.g Green Architecture, GIS, Building Architecture and some Civil & Building Engineering related programs. Its a college that can take you
You can't go for an M.SC cos Canada requires a Bachelors degree (minimum of 2.1) to apply for Masters.
Do your research on the following programs one by one, check the program overview, check the course curriculum of each programs and see the one's that has course components related to architecture, tuition amount for international students, Admission intake e.g Fall - Sept, Winter - January, May - Spring, then go for the one that suites your Academic background, then apply
Graduate Certificate (PG.Cert) in Green Architecture Algonquin College, ON https://www.algonquincollege.com/acce/program/green-architecture/
PG. Cert in Marine Geomatics Nova Scotia Community College, Nova Scotia https://www.nscc.ca/learning_programs/programs/PlanDescr.aspx?prg=MGEO&pln=MARGEOM
PG. Cert in Civil Engineering, Building related Courses https://www.nairaland.com/6321900/canadian-student-visa-thread-part/363#99716912
PG. Cert in Construction Management -1378B (2 years program) - Available for International Students Conestoga College, Waterloo, Ontario https://www.conestogac.on.ca/fulltime/construction-management

Geographic Information Systems (PG.CERT) Nova Scotia Community College https://www.nscc.ca/learning_programs/programs/plandescr.aspx?prg=GISAD&pln=GEOINFSYS
For other PG. Cert Programs in GIS visit the Link below & google search them https://www.ontariocolleges.ca/en/programs/search?q=GIS&page=0&by%5BProgramCredentialEnglish%5D%5B0%5D=Graduate%20Certificate
While you are preparing yourself to apply for a PG.CERT ADMISSION you would most likely need the information in the two links below, that being said, take your time and go through them
Potential Documents needed to apply for admission in a College for PG. Cert https://www.nairaland.com/6567181/canadian-student-visa-thread-part/221#103080983
Benefits of adding supporting documents to your College Post Graduate Certificate (PG.Cert), Masters, PHD application admission application in order to boost your admission Chances https://www.nairaland.com/6567181/canadian-student-visa-thread-part/481#104216281

Do your research well, get across to the school (email), in a nutshell, do your due diligence before applying for any of the above program cos the journey to your Study Visa Success depends on the type of program and qualification of the program you apply for.
ADMISSION IS IMPORTANT, VISA APPLICATION SUCCESS IS IMPORTANTA!!!!
Good luck! Please l need something like this for HND electrical and electronics engineering graduate too. |

Toopee: Top of the morning to you. I want to request a refund at NSCC and the next resumption is September of next year, too long, I can't wait.
So, I want to apply to another school that's available for Winter. I have a 2:2 in “English” and I chose to do a postgraduate diploma in Human Resource Management. I'm now open to other courses.
With my B.A in English, what other courses should be considered and the schools that offer them. Thank you. Can one change University and programme if visa is denied? Or are we to stick to same school and program and reapply? |

SuomyNona: Wow a new thread. May all our desires be granted.
Landing Gist...
So I booked Lufthansa/Air Canada (Lagos to Frankfurt to Montreal to Toronto). Don't let me bore you with the details, I will just highlight the key points.
Pre Departure
1) While searching for airlines to book, I discovered that Google Flight is the best tool to use. You can easily input your details, unlist unwanted connecting airports in the US due to there transit visa requirements and know the best flight fare for your trip directly from the airlines. The only issue is that for the major airlines you may have to book with USD on the airline site after selecting from Google Flight.
2) Thank you for the person that recommended SynLab Ibadan (₦50,400). I did my Covid test with them and got the result before 7 AM the next day.
3) If you are at MMA, Lufthansa and Qatar airways stand is close to gate A. So you can drop at gate A to save you stress.
4) Ignore the agricultural whatever people, simply tell them you have no agricultural product. I told them I am a student and na book full my woven bag. It worked. Also, I seem to have exhausted all my naira before going in, I ended up not tipping all those that asked for "show us love". Na only smile I gave them.
5) Weighing your bags on the day you are leaving before getting to the airport is advisable. Removing your loads and rearranging to cut down weight can be stressful and disjointed. Prioritize what you need most and make sure you are within the weight limit before arriving at the airport.
Post departure
1) My flight landed in Montreal from Frankfurt and I collected my study permit at Montreal. It is quite an easy process, I am fully vaccinated so exempted from quarantine and exempted from arrival covid testing.
2) Don't exchange your USD at the airport. The airport rate I saw was about 1USD to 1.10 CAD.
when you open a bank account upon arrival, you can deposit in for 1 USD to 1.22 CAD at the bank branch. And withdraw CAD with your new ATM.
3) For those taking this route (Lagos-Frankfurt-Montreal-Toronto), you will have to get your study permit and pick up your luggages before proceeding to Toronto. It may take up time, but don't worry your connecting flights to Toronto will be rescheduled at no cost to the nearest flight to the time you are done.
I was worried about it too, but it worked out well.
4) I booked an Uber with my GTbank naira ATM card upon arriving at Toronto.
Note that the app pickup exit is on the ground floor at Pearson, you will have to take an elevator to the ground floor. App pick-up is quite cheaper than airport taxi.
First Day in Toronto
1) I was able to get my SIN and open a bank account the next day. Both took about 2 hrs. SIN registration was done at Service Canada on College Street, I met about 5 people on the queue. All major banks have a branch on that street too and are close to Service Canada. So you can get a bank account same day. You can do both process without having a Canadian number yet.
2) Don't be in a rush to sign up for a cellular network. Ask around to know the coverage available in your area and the best rate. I found out that Public Mobile and Freedom are the most reasonable costwise in Toronto. They have 15CAD per month plan and 25CAD per month plan unlike the others with mostly about 40 to above 50 CAD plans.
3) Find someone around your locality to groom you on where to get most things you need. Don't get overwhelmed and take it one step at a time. Prioritize the necessity (Getting SIN, opening account, getting SIM, knowing where to get groceries).
To those expecting PPR, keep the hope alive. To those newly approved God will ease the travel preparation phase for you. To those arriving or newly arrived, God will guide our steps.
We shall all overcome. Does getting SIN have any connection with Nigerian NIN? |
