@POLITICSNGR A video currently trending on social media shows an unidentified pastor attempting to resurrect a dead person but fails woefully. @POLITICSNGR Governor of Imo State, Rochas Anayo Owelle Okorocha has reacted to his suspension on Friday by the National Working Committee of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC. Okorocha, who recently clinched a senatorial seat under the party, was suspended alongside the Governor of Ogun State, Ibikunle Amosun. Reacting to the Development, Okorocha attacked the national chairman of the party, Adams Oshiomole in a statement released via his spokesperson, Sam Onwuemodo. The statement read; “In 2019, Oshiomhole felt that such a man should be treated with disdain. He handed over the governorship ticket of the party to Hope Uzodinma who has never resigned his membership of the PDP on the floor of the Senate like others did, giving all kinds of flimsy excuses. “And if Oshiomhole had meant well for APC and Imo people in particular, would he have given the ticket of the party to a man facing five corruption charges and having travel ban slammed on him, to be the party’s candidate? “In February 23, 2019, presidential and National Assembly election, Governor Okorocha won in ten, out of the twelve local governments in Orlu zone to emerge winner for Imo West senatorial district. He also delivered four House of Representatives candidates on the platforms of APC and AA respectively, with one Senate seat and two House of Representatives seats outstanding. “And when the APC members across the nation are still celebrating the success of the party in the presidential and National Assembly elections, Oshiomhole in his wisdom or lack of it, felt that the best action in the circumstance is to suspend two governors who did well in the election, even when he played safe in 2015 and 2019 in Edo State without any known pressure. “Again, Oshiomhole coming up with the purported expulsion this time was only acting out of the fear that God in his infinite mercy could give Governor Okorocha a role to play in the Senate, in the overall interest of the nation. “Men like him hardly sleep with their two eyes closed. They always sleep with their eyes open because they have murdered sleep with their actions and inactions. And unfortunately for him, the purported expulsion can’t stand because the law has taken care of it even long before now,” Okorocha said. https://politicsngr.com/okorocha-reacts-apc-suspension-reveals-next-line-action/ |
@POLITICSNGR I was very saddened by the loss of lives to various acts of violence during the February 23 presidential election and elections into the National Assembly. My heartfelt condolences go to the families that lost loved ones and I pray that those injured will recover soonest. The operational failures of INEC in the conduct of the elections, the massive vote-buying and vote-rigging through various methods as well as violence in several locations in the country have left the credibility of the election open to question. The APC and the PDP have both been complicit in the malpractices. The number of votes tallied for my candidacy by the INEC did not represent anything close to the electoral strength of that candidacy. These false numbers were the result of brazen theft of our votes and the suppression of our voters. George Muoghalu congratulates President Buhari and not Kingsley Moghalu It appears, however, that the strong determination of many of our citizens to reject the APC at the ballot box far outweighed the desire for real change in our polity and governance in 2019. So, although we did not win this election in terms of overall numbers of votes, the presidential election result is an indication of where our society is at present: 2019 is the last gasp of the old political order that has robbed Nigeria of real development. I trust and believe that this situation will change by 2023. As we move forward as a country, we need fundamental reform of our electoral system if our democracy is to have any real meaning. Elections, as they are organized and executed today in Nigeria, are a travesty. We need to reform the systems of registration, voting and collation of votes by making the processes more transparent through better use of technology. As of today, these processes are tedious, inefficient and prone to risks and performance failures such as those we have experienced. We also must stiffen punishment and enforce accountability for electoral offences. Buhari’s re-election collective victory for Nigerians, says Moughalu Nigerians in Diaspora have continued to remit billions of dollars home every year. Our fellow citizens living abroad must be able to vote overseas as from 2023. Immediate action to achieve this goal is required once the present elections are over. President Muhammadu Buhari, who INEC announced as the winner of the 2019 presidential election, owes Nigerians an inclusive, competent government that can heal our land and take millions of Nigerians out of crushing poverty. This calls for a very different approach from recycling poverty through the APC government’s unsustainable populist initiatives that fail to create jobs or improve actual economic productivity and living standards. A new, philosophically and conceptually grounded approach to economic management that goes beyond mere economic growth statistics to real economic development and structural transformation remains an urgent priority for our country. Our struggle for a better and well-governed society, a productive and inclusive economy that breaks the backbone of poverty, and to restore Nigeria’s leadership role in the world continues. I for my part will remain engaged in that struggle over the long haul. Signed Kingsley Moghalu YPP Presidential Candidate in the 2019 Elections. @POLITICSNGR Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has revealed that he survived an assassination attempt on his life on Thursday night after soldiers sent by the General Officer Commanding 6 Division of the Nigerian Army, Major General Jamil Sarham confronted his security details. Wike, in a statement made available to PoliticsNGR, signed by his spokesman, Simeon Nwakaudu, also alleged that the military was supplying fake uniforms to militants hired by the APC for the purpose of disrupting the elections and unleashing mayhem. Speaking after a meeting with officials of the British High Commission at the Government House, Port Harcourt on Friday, Governor Wike said the General Officer Commanding 6 Division of the Nigerian Army has been taking very unprofessional measures to silence PDP members. He said that he has informed the British High Commission and other foreign missions of the anti-democratic actions of the security forces, especially the Nigerian Army. He said: "Last night; the General Officer Commanding 6 Division of the Nigerian Army plotted an assassination on my life. Thank God, that was not successful. "On Friday, 15th of January, a day to the 16th of February, the first date for the elections before it was rescheduled, the GOC sent soldiers to cordone off my private residence. "Yesterday, I was shocked that when I left Government House to see some political leaders, soldiers were trailing me. Anyone who knows me knows that I don't have military security details. "Along Abacha road where you have Algate Hotel, to my surprise, I heard my security men shouting that the soldiers are behind us. I have said this severally about the GOC of the 6 Division that nobody should kill because he was promised the position of Chief of Army Staff ". The governor said that the General Officer Commanding the Division can be promoted a Chief of Army Staff without killing anyone. He said that there is no need to kill innocent people for personal ambition. He said that Rivers State is strategically positioned in Nigeria and should not be destabilised for political goals. "Rivers State is so important to this country. The economy of Nigeria cannot survive without Rivers State. By what they are doing, they are scaring investors away", Governor Wike said. He urged the President to talk to the Army to reduce their level of partisanship and illegal activities ahead of the elections. "The GOC held a meeting with the soldiers yesterday and said they must do everything they can to ensure that the President wins. That is not good. Allow Nigerians to support whoever they want to support", he said. He said there is no reason for any fight in the state because the APC is not running the Governorship, National Assembly and State Assembly Elections in Rivers State. He regretted that the Nigeria Army has started arresting PDP in Eleme and other Local Government Areas. He said that 182 persons have been pencilled down for arrest by the Army. Governor Wike decried the supply of military uniforms to APC militants because it would have post elections negative consequences. Earlier, the Political Officer of the British High Commission in Nigeria, Louis Edwards said that they were in the state to observe the Elections. She said that the Resident Electoral Commissioner of Rivers State assured her that things would work well. She said that she is looking forward to a peaceful Elections. https://politicsngr.com/just-pdp-governor-reveals-nigerian-army-nearly-assassinated-details/

@POLITICSNGR PoliticsNGR has been furnished with an official statement from the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC on the inclusion of Zamfara APC Candidates in the 2019 General Elections. Previously, INEC was barred by the Federal High Court, Abuja from fielding candidates of the APC in Zamfara State in the 2019 General Elections but today following an order by the Court of Appeal, the electoral body has now put the candidates on the ballot. Below is a transcript of the full statement; "The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has consistently maintained that it will always obey court judgments and orders. In the case of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Zamfara State, the Federal High Court, Abuja and the Zamfara State High Court issued conflicting orders relating to the participation of the APC in the two strands of elections scheduled for 23rd February and 9th March 2019. While the former ruled that the APC, having failed to conduct party primaries cannot field candidates in the said election, the latter decided that it can field candidates having conducted valid party primaries. However, the Court of Appeal, Abuja Judicial Division on 21st February 2019 set aside the judgment of the Federal High Court, Abuja for “lack or want of jurisdiction on the part on the lower court." This in effect means that the Zamfara State High Court's decision that the APC can field candidates for the National Assembly, Governorship and State Assembly elections is the only valid and subsisting order. Consequently, the Commission has today, in compliance with the said order, restored the APC to the ballot in the National Assembly, Governorship and State House of Assembly elections scheduled for 23rd February and 9th March 2019." https://politicsngr.com/inec-reveals-reason-including-zamfara-apc-candidates-ballot/

@POLITICSNGR Below is a statement from the Nigerian Presidency signed by Spokesman, Femi Adesina; "The Fourth Quarter 2018 Gross Domestic Product (GDP) results released recently by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) give lots of cause to cheer. Below are salient points to note from the report, as the Muhammadu Buhari administration puts the Nigerian economy on firm, solid footing: 1. The economy has recorded continued progress since it emerged from recession in 2017. Current result shows a Real GDP growth of 2.38% compared to 1.81% in Q3 last year, representing the strongest growth since the economy slipped into recession in 2016. 2. For more than five decades, Nigeria has paid lip service to diversifying the economy, from sole dependence on oil. The latest result shows that economic growth has continued to be driven by the non-oil sector, which grew by 2.70% in Q4 2018, up from 2.32% in Q3 2018. It represents the strongest growth in the sector since Q4 2015. 3. The non-oil GDP growth was driven by Quarrying and Other Minerals, followed by Telecommunications, Agriculture, Manufacturing, and Construction. That is diversification in progress, real time, no matter what the naysayers may say. 4. While the non-oil sector actually drove GDP growth, the oil sector contracted with crude oil and gas GDP reducing by -1.62%. This shows that with good governance, focus, prudence and accountability, the life of the country need not depend on oil ad infinitum. 5. The NBS report further shows that Services GDP growth recorded its best performance in 11 quarters, growing by 2.90% compared to 2.64% in Q3 2018 and 0.10% in Q4 2017. Overall, while growth in the economy was moderated by the contraction in the oil sector, 39 out of 46 economic activities recorded positive growth in the quarter under review. 6. The improved GDP growth can be attributed to Government's continuous implementation of the policy initiatives in the Economic Recovery and Growth Plan (ERGP), which has boosted the performance of the non-oil sector. 7. The growth in Q4 2018 GDP is consistent with the improvements in other macroeconomic indicators, including inflation, capital inflows, foreign trade, external reserves, amongst others. 8. Headline inflation has been trending downwards from 18.55% as at December 2016 to 15.37% in December 2017 and further to 11.44% in December 2018. 9. The total value of capital importation into Nigeria stood at $2,140 million in the fourth quarter of 2018. This translates to a full year capital inflow of $16,812 million compared to $12,228 million in 2017. 10. Although the economy is now growing, more still must be done to deepen its diversification and make it less vulnerable to external shocks. That is an unflinching commitment of the Muhammadu Buhari administration. Those who do not see any good in something not initiated by them toil endlessly to hoodwink Nigerians into believing that nothing good is happening on the economic front. But facts are stubborn things. The more they try to deny the facts, the more they rudely stare at them in the face. With the Buhari administration, economic Eldorado beckons. Nigeria is inexorably set for that Next Level. https://politicsngr.com/presidency-lists-10-things-know-nigerias-economy/ |
