for me i got no time for extended family wahala, because my parents suffered a lot from extended family problems infact my dad died because of carrying extended family wahala and we the children were left to suffer without help from any family member, my mum toiled day and night to see that we become something in future by seeing us through our education, so i have learnt my lessons from my parents experience and would not even tolerate any of them either from my hubby or from own family, i dont care what anybody thinks about me. |

forget this girl, use your 4 million to invest in some thing meaningful, buy a land and start building your own house since you are still in your mother's house. start another relationship that will be due for marriage in a years time and you see this girl come crawling and begging you for marriage even at a registrar without reception party. Am a lady but i hate people wasting money they are suppose to invest on wedding ceremony, 1.5 milla is a huge expenses for wedding, remember the ceremony does not make the marriage to last what matters is love |

For your information Ma’am, Senator Yerima’s marriage is under Nigerian law quite legal. The relevant part of our Criminal Code, which for clarity is Nigerian Criminal Code Part III, Chapter 27, Section 281, reads, “Any person who has unlawful carnal knowledge of a girl under the age of thirteen years is guilty of a felony, and is liable to imprisonment for life, with or without caning.” You see! It is quite clearly spelt out there. The girl is not under the age of thirteen, and even if she was, Mr. Yerima’s carnal knowledge of the girl is lawful. After all he married her did he not? Why don’t you and the other members of the Senate sit down and take a long look at the laws that govern our country? I can guarantee that you will see so many contradictions, enough contradictions in fact, to keep you all busy for a very long time. Instead, you are all interested only in Bills that improve the cash flow to your pockets. The contradictions in Nigerian law are legion. In this instance, the Criminal Code, on the one hand, clearly states that it is a misdemeanour to have carnal knowledge of a girl aged above thirteen and under sixteen. By giving that age range, I guess it should be all right then to have carnal knowledge of a girl of twelve? In the same Laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the Marriage Act expects for a marriage to be contracted between persons above the age of twenty-one (Section 11), but grants exceptions to marriages below that age if consent is granted by the legal guardian of the minor in question (Sections 18 and 19). However, the same Marriage Act is silent on the age below which a marriage cannot be contracted. Then there is the section of the Criminal Code which I have quoted above, Ma’am, you might want to sponsor a Bill seeking to clarify these sections of the law, and also the Marriage Act, which remains one of the most confusing pieces of legislature I have ever read. culled from a letter written to senator Ekaette on this issue. |
