If you don't shut your gob. Apathy for education When in the real sense, Ikorodu is synonymous with academics. Their achievements is very much obvious and a testament. |
See painters admirably kitted, ours will adorn nauseating clothing. |
As to the much realization of the good acts embedded in this Surah, ability to engage in it is quite tasking requiring the Rahmah of Allah. To settle for misery at the expense of known pleasure isn't an easy ado. Exhibition of patience in the face of falsehood, defamation and the likes is an uphill task. Absolute faith in Allah isn't a simple attainment. Forgiveness to those that tormented you and very cruel to you is undoubtedly divine. All in all, it is Allah Hazawajallah alone that can make it possible. Shukran for this lessons Obafemee |
Shukran OP for this piece. As for the comment above, it isn't possible to have saner comments all through, such insanity is bound to surface. |
The first female vice-Chancellor of the first University of Education in Nigeria Professor Oluyemisi Obilade wrote: Some of us who were physically present at the JAMB Policy meeting owe it a duty to clarify issues and right some wrongs in the reportage of the meeting It is a pity that the personality and position of the incumbent Registrar, Prof Oloyede, is being unfairly vilified when he should be commended. These are the facts as observed and as stated to us at the meeting. 1) JAMB was established at the instance of 13 Vice Chancellors some decades ago to stream-line the process of admission and eliminate the duplication of entrance examinations to universities. 2)JAMB, by the edict establishing it, is supposed to confine itself to the conduct of examinations and release of results to the universities. 3) The Senate of each university is then expected to decide on the admission criteria and CUT OFF MARKS. Please note thatthe Senate of the university is the highest body empowered to make policies /pronouncements on academic matters. They award the degrees. 4) Over the years however, JAMB, had exceeded it's mandate and sought to take over the roles of the university Senate. It came to a head last year when JAMB forwarded the lists of students admitted to each university. Of course this was strongly resisted by most Vice-Chancellors, including yours sincerely. Last time I checked, TASUED is fully owned by the Government and people of Ogun State, and no parastatal in Abuja, will be permitted to act as if it owns/operates TASUED. This is the background of what brought in Prof Oloyede as the new Registrar . 5) Since he came on board, he has tried to address the issues and correct anomalies observed. It was in the process of doing this that certain decisions were taken. a) the power to 'fully own' the admission process was transferred back to the Senate of each university, where it rightly belongs. Each university now has some freedom to decide it's cut-off point, with a proviso that none should go below 120, which was the lowest submission . Most universities are sticking to 170-200 cut-off mark. b) all admission processes should be placed on the table of public scrutiny and there should be no 'under the table' admission which is then covered later by regularisation through JAMB. The Registrar said he was shocked by the huge number of students who had not taken the JAMB exam and we're surreptitiously admitted by some universities. He said this has to stop from this session. 6) Prof Oloyede has computerised the admission process to make it more inclusive, open and interactive. Applicants now have the opportunity to track their admission status and accept /reject courses offered whilst being considered by other universities who now have access to data of ALL applicants. 7) Prof Oloyede has shown uncommon courage in exposing and addressing the anomalies of the past. Please remember that he also returned over 5 billion Naira to the coffers of the Federal Government, an amount which the Minister of Education said was higher than the sum total amount paid by JAMB since its establishment. I believe the criticism of Prof Oloyede is unfair and could dampen his enthusiasm for the job. He should be commended not condemned. Please note that I am not Prof Oloyede's spokesperson neither does he know of this submission. But I was at the meeting and I felt a need to clarify issues. All it takes for evil to thrive is for good people to keep silent. Good day my learned professionals on this platform. Forgive whatever shortcomings in this post, I am just a teacher, not a trained journalist. Thank you for your time. |

"Hassan your food is getting cold", Habeebah called, as her six year old son was glued to his Quran She snatched the Quran from him angrily. "I've told you I'm late for work!" What are you looking for? For the past week you've been inseparable from this Quran,"Habeebah said as she helped her son to adjust his school uniform. "Mom, I can't seem to find my answer , perhaps you can help me." Hassan said. "Okay but eat first and we can talk in the car." she replied. On the way to school he asked "Mum, may I ask my question now? " "Of course ",Habeebah replied. "Mum, are there two Muhammad ?" "What did you say?" "Are there two Muhammad ?", he repeated. "Who taught you this heresy?", Habeebah asked angrily. Hassan knew his mum's temper and started shaking. "Our new teacher taught us that... " Habeebah interrupted "So, your new teacher has been feeding you this nonsense!, Hassan said, "No he said....." "Shut up!!" Habeebah interjected" "I will go and see him myself! I'd rather go to work late than allow this heresy to continue." When they got to the school, Habeebah walked straight to the headteacher's office and demanded that the teacher be sacked because the teacher was leading the children astray with heresies so the teacher was summoned to the office but he denied ever telling the children that there were two Prophet Muhammad So Hassan now in tears, was summoned and asked: "Why do you think there are two Prophet Muhammad " Still crying he said: "Our teacher told us that Prophet Muhammad is our leader and his followers behave exactly like him. He said Prophet Muhammad does not steal, lie, fight or stay away from salat or prayers and his followers are the same." "Okay, that's true but that is not enough reason for you to believe that there are two prophet Muhammad ", the headmistress said, wiping Hassan's face. Hassan continued: "My mum says she is a Muslim ,she keeps singing: "I am a muslim and Islam is my choice"but mum still fights. I saw her take daddy's money last month and when daddy asked her, she lied about it. Also we have not been to mosque nor prayed for about five months. Just this morning, she fought with daddy and was very rude to him so I've been thinking that Mummy's Muhammad is a different Muhammad from my teacher's Muhammad; that's why I kept searching my Quran to see if I would find my mummy's Muhammad in there....... By this time, Habeebah was in tears and both the headmistress and Hassan's teacher were looking down in embarrassment! Abeebah was so ashamed that she could not look into her son's eyes........ Does your character and behaviour make people question whether you serve a different Allah Are You an example of Prophet Muhammad ; SAW) Think about this! As-Salam Alaykum Warahmatullah Wabarakatuhu |

I have noticed Sunrise Daily program on Channels Television doesn't review the Nation and Punch newspapers among other Lagos based newspapers. They don't read their headlines at all. However, they do read the likes of Vanguard, Guardian, Thisday, Independent and host of others. I am puzzle as to why they don't hence, the reason for my question: What could be responsible for this ![]() |
mfujah:Don't think I have that before |
Cinkq:I guess you're not a party to Lagos is a no man's land |
airmark:I am of the believe it isn't about quality but rather affinity with those departed players which is very much normal for the good moments they have shared together. |
OP, which state is this ![]() |
Nihilist:I hope his return will not spell doom; from dressing room to the field of play. Since Azpilicueta already hint about issues in the dressing room and that the players bought to replace departed players are not of the same qualities. |
Mushood:That shows their height of hypocrisy. No matter the effort to relegate Islam, it will at all times be futile. |
jc4real:If I hear |
Skimpledawg:It isn't so, he said this responding to the absence of Hazard and Pedro. Hence, it is for the mean time. He was also asked about the possibility of Alvaro Morata and Michy Batshuayi playing alongside each other against the Gunners. |
jc4real:You have joined the banters squad |
airmark:We were unable to strike a deal when the transfer window was in its infancy, however, hoping we will this time when the clock is ticking very fast. I wish all the best as I am not against strengthening the team, just of the opinion we should channel this towards other pressing positions. |
jc4real:Na true the guy yarn so |
diggz:Seemingly so. I am still astonished with his presence in the team while promising lads were swiftly sold and sent on loan. |
airmark:If that should be the case, don't you think it should have been Van Dijk's transfer first before that of Rudiger? For I fear the deal might not go through as it can drag for long owing to Southampton's reluctance to sell considering bidding less than a month to the closure of the transfer market. Their reluctance was somehow reflected in the treatment of Liverpool. |
airmark:For what actually, after the arrival of Rudiger ![]() |
My husband died in August 2013 when our daughter was 9 months old. In the years that followed, I wrote extensively about my experiences with widowhood and the struggles that ensued. A year and a half after I was widowed, I launched Ruqaya’s Bookshelf to host some of my longer writing pieces and as a platform to sell the books I had written. While my journey over the past few years has been full of Allah’s mercy and blessings, it has also been full of internal turmoil, pain, and self-doubt. One of the only ways I am able to combat these feelings is through the remembrance of Allah and studying the examples of the righteous men and women who came before me. One of the greatest people from whom I drew (and still draw) strength and inspiration is Maryam (as). Not only is she a model believer, but in her we see the example of someone who overcame such intense physical pain and emotional turmoil. When Maryam (as) was in the throes of labour, her pain drove her to say: “…Oh, I wish I had died before this and was in oblivion, forgotten” (19:23). Allah (swt) shows us a response in the Qur’an that illustrates just a miniscule portion of His compassion and mercy. He does not chastise her but instead it is said to her: “…Do not grieve; your Lord has provided beneath you a stream” (19:24) What comes next is also key: “And shake toward you the trunk of the palm tree; it will drop upon you ripe, fresh dates. So eat and drink and be contented…” (19:25-26) She was instructed to shake the trunk of the palm tree. A woman who was giving birth and was experiencing so much pain and fear that she wished for death was now being asked to get up and shake a palm tree! Those who have seen the thick trunks of palm trees know that to shake one is no easy task. Those who have gone through a painful labour and delivery know that simply standing up during or after it is difficult, let alone doing anything physically demanding. Maryam didn’t collapse in pain or give up hope in recovery, though; she shook the tree and ate the dates that fell from it. There are two main lessons that I take from this story: 1. Pain doesn’t exempt you from work More than anything, this story has taught me that being in a state of pain or struggle doesn’t exempt me from working hard. Now I stand up every day and I push all sorrow to the back of my mind. I write books, run a business, and I involve myself in projects that I believe in. Knowing that I’m able to work for the benefit of others and myself helps me understand that I still have a purpose to fulfil on this earth. Allah (swt) promises relief, but He also orders us to do the work that needs to be done. Even if the pain of life has pushed you to your knees, or you’re plagued with struggles and self-doubt, you can never stop moving forward and working towards the next step on the path towards paradise. 2. You have to “act” in order to “get” Scholars have commented further on the act of shaking the palm tree by saying that the average person wouldn’t be able to shake this tree hard enough to dislodge dates. So in reality, it wasn’t Maryam’s physical actions that made the dates fall – that would’ve been nearly impossible. It was Allah (swt) who caused the dates to fall. So why would she be asked to shake the tree if her action isn’t actually going to yield any results? In the story of Prophet Musa (as), Allah (swt) also asks him to do something that wouldn’t normally result in a substantial reaction. Musa was told to strike the sea with his staff, and the sea would part for him and his followers. Obviously it wasn't really Musa’s strength that parted the sea. Again, it was Allah (swt) who caused the sea to part. These two instances are related. Allah (swt) asked Maryam and Prophet Musa to perform a physical action in order to receive a specific result. You have to act before you expect to get anything. Allah’s Name “Al-Razzaq” (The Provider) insinuates that a person puts forth a certain effort to sustain herself, and then God allows that person’s sustenance to be placed upon her. Don’t get me wrong; Allah (swt) gives us A LOT of blessings without us ever having to lift a finger. But when it comes to our rizq, Allah (swt) asks us to put forward our best possible effort in whatever we do. We shouldn’t be content with mediocrity; Prophet Muhammad (saw) said, “Allah loves that if one does a job he perfects it.” After we perform as best as we can, the results are in Allah’s hands alone. May Allah (swt) allow us to have the strength and courage of Maryam (as), to be patient through our hardships, and to be in a consistent state of working for the betterment of ourselves and our families.
