To proceed. Recently an earthquake occurred in Turkey and Syria resulting in loss of lives and properties numbering in 10s of thousands, requiring massive efforts to clean up. May Allah grant succour to the victims and theirs families.
Since the occurrence of this disaster some individuals have been questioning God and why should He allow this sort of thing to happen to his faithfuls in an attempt to cast doubts in the minds people.
Allah in his book has informed us that he will test us in different ways and punish both the innocent and guilty when evil has become prevalent and widespread.
And fear a trial (of affliction) which does not affect (only) those who have done wrong among you in particular. And know that Allāh is severe in punishment. Quran 8:25 Commentary

Zaynab bint Jaḥsh J said: “O Messenger of Allāh, will we perish whilst there are the righteous among us?” He said: “Yes, when evil (al-khabath) becomes abundant.” Related by al-Bukhārī (no. 3167) and Muslim (no. 2880). Al-Nawawī commented: “The meaning of the ḥadīth is that when evil increases then a general destruction can take place, even if there are righteous people (among them).” Sharḥ Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim (9/257).
The intent of the verse is: Fear the trial which goes beyond the oppressor [on account of whose deeds it befell], such that it afflicts both the righteous and the sinful.”

“The Hour will not be established until knowledge is taken away, earthquakes increase, time passes quickly, tribulations appear, and there is a lot of _haraj._ _Haraj_ is killing.”

Saheeh al-Jāmi’, 7428 | Shaykh al-Albāni رحمه الله | Saheeh.
And certainly, We shall test you with something of fear, hunger, loss of wealth, lives and fruits, but give glad tidings to As-Sabirin (the patient ones, etc.). Quran 2:155

Who, when afflicted with calamity, say: "Truly! To Allah we belong and truly, to Him we shall return." Quran 2:156
Those are the ones upon whom are praises, blessings and mercy from their Lord and (more) mercy (thereafter). And it is those who are the (rightly) guided ones. Quran 2:157.
So as we can see from the verses and authentic narrations calamities happen for a reason and it doesn't mean that Allah has forsaken us as He is the All-Wise and All-Knowing, trials and test are from meant to serve as punishment for our wrongdoings or to gauge our faith. May Allah forgive us of our shortcomings, grant us safety and security and make us steadfast upon faith.
