Shaykh ʿAbd ar-Raḥmān Ibn Nāṣir as-Saʿdī رحمه الله (d. 1376H) comments:

“This is a great glad tiding, that whenever there is hardship and difficulty, ease accompanies and follows it, to the extent that if hardship were to enter the hole of a lizard, ease would enter it too and bring it out, as Allah ﷻ said:

سَیَجۡعَلُ ٱللَّهُ بَعۡدَ عُسۡرࣲ یُسۡرࣰا

Allah will bring about, after hardship, ease.

Aṭ-Ṭalāq, Ayah 7

And as the Prophet ﷺ said:

“Indeed, relief accompanies distress, and indeed with hardship comes ease.”

The definite article “ال al-” in “ٱلۡعُسۡرِ al-ʿusr” in the two verses indicates that it is one and the same hardship, while the indefinite article in “یُسۡر yusr” indicates its recurrence, thus one hardship cannot overcome two eases.

And the definite article “ال al-” that signifies generality and inclusiveness indicates that every hardship - no matter how difficult it may be - eventually has ease that accompanies it.
