Have you checked for tongue tie?
Yes. He’s had his cut already. Plus he already was on his way talking at 1.3-1.5years. He could say almost anything you tell him clearly. He just suddenly regressed after I came home from the hospital with DD.

The lady I know is in Maryland which is quite a distance from you. I'd send you her contact details. You can ask if she has someone close to your location she can recommend for the assessment or you can spare the time.

But I think I mentioned it to you before, especially for a non verbal child, the first step is having a hearing test done to rule out hearing difficulties.
Do send me the contact. He hears well though. This much am sure. Many thanks.

My friends wife didn't cut her daughters hairs at 1year cos they both came with a full head of hair and the hair is still full and healthy looking.

On your DS and speech therapy, if there indeed is a problem, early intervention is necessary. These formative years is when they learn speech and add on with academics and everyother thing afterwards...don't let a speech delay requiring therapy linger for too long so it doesn't affect academics.

But he needs to be assessed by a speech and language pathologist to ascertain the need for intervention and what intervention is required.
(...some non verbal kids start talking after certain foods are eliminated from their diet.)

On how long therapy will take, it depends on how early you start and the home support he gets from you parents too.
A resource you can try in the interim is Gemiini.org.

Depending on your location, I have the contact of a licensed speech and language pathologist to help with the assessment.
Thank you momma. Good to hear about the healthy hair void of the 1year traditional cut. If only I knew the right kiddies hair food to rejuvenate her front edges.

I’m located at Awoyaya. I don’t mind at all pls. I’m open to getting professional opinions. He’s just non-verbal as u put it. Everything other aspect is pretty much okay.

Hahaha... hello mommaz. How are you all? Been a minute!

How’s our LOs doing? Hope all is under control. Stay strong o.

Am struggling with cutting DD hair. Shes close to 14months now, hair grew well all round. I wanted to skip the whole 1yr barb thingy since hers is full. However, her edges seems to be cutting suddenly and am forced to consider cutting. I’ve used ori and coconut oil for her hair with occasional aloe Vera steaming.

I don’t know if someone knows good growth creams that can restore her edges or I should just close eyes and shave it off clean?

Did any mom here skip the 1year barb? Did u wish you hadn’t? Or the hair went on to be just fine? Thanks.

Update: DS isn’t still talking much. No mommy, daddy or nothing constant. Am trying to be patient but I dunno. Maybe I’ll consider Speech therapy by beginning of next month.

Does anyone know a good speech therapist that produce results within a short time frame? An honest one too. Moms that have gone the speech therapy route for delayed speech, how was the journey? Thanks.

I think you are on the right path sis. Just try and fill the form and return it back to the hospital. I watched one video on YouTube one time and it was a mother whose 3 years old boy suddenly started talking coherently after being almost mute for the better part of his life.
Oh i can’t wait for such a time. I feel like i would never get tired of hearing him speak. I’ll submit the form this week. They’ll most likely subscribe him for speech therapy.

Thank u for the shoulder and strength you’ve given me. My hope is even stronger. He might just be taking his time. I after all waited for 13months for him to cut his first tooth.

I have about 7-10 kids songs and phonics. He definitely knows it so well that he makes sounds and babbles just before they do it.

I strongly wish he’d pick up before he his 3years in November. Thanks again sis.

Hi Mama! Sorry if this is coming late, but I just wanted to add my update since I was one of the moms that complained of my boy's speech delay.
Wow. Thank you for this. Yes, his the first child, it pretty much followed suit with yours. Well, there’s definitely improvement with your son. I’ll look into the class number. I actually was looking for a place with little number so he doesn’t feel overwhelmed or intimidated.

His 2.6years now, I see him trying to bend his lip to form the words, it just seems so difficult for him. Also, am worried he doesn’t quite understand the words. He doesn’t respond to any errand like “bring the remote” bring the water” bring your cup” etc. he just looks at me. Even if I scold him, he still doesn’t seem to understand as he would still be doing what I’m scolding him for.

Am confused as I don’t know if am being too harsh since he doesn’t understand what am saying or am being too laid back and raising a son that’ll turn out stubborn and wouldn’t listen to what I tell him.

I have taken him for evaluation was given and autism check form. He’s talked clearly before, so tongue tie isn’t an issue. Am yet to return the form. He had more of language development issues. It’s all so worrying but am holding unto God and hope.

Yes! They are preterm. Thanks for the advice. BTW, I'm a bro. God bless you!
Preterm reach milestones later than term babies. The reason is very understandable. Add the remaining weeks to their milestones goals always. Keep propping them up with pillows or sit them on your lap. They’ll get the hang of it.

Also give them frequent tummy time. Laying on their tummy would strengthen their neck muscles cos they have to keep exercising their neck muscles when raising their heads to see.

Good evening great mothers its pretty long time

My concern is about my 8months old baby who just started teething, I noticed that it the upper two incisors that's coming out first instead of the down part which is always common please mothers who has seen such in a baby before?

lipsrsealed lipsrsealed
It’s not a rare occurrence and s/he would still go on to have a complete set of teeth.

Infact, some say babies that cut the upper teeth first go on to have power in their words. They’re thought to always speak positive and never negative nor lay curses as words from their mouth come to pass/fulfillment.

That I should be pressing the hole so it will be visible she even said it will pain the baby but I shouldnt mind, a 1 year plus baby.
I haven’t heard that before. But I totally agree with u. The chubbier, the less obvious. It doesn’t go away. I wouldn’t press my baby to make it visible or whatever.

Maybe you should pay the school a visit and observe your child, since the teachers are saying A and your seeing B..a different result. That will help you rule out your concern or face it. But in my opinion each child grows/develops differently and girls in my observation tend to grow faster, while boys take their time. maybe you should give him till end of this year, if nothing changes, you can consult a doctor
I believe his hearing fine cos he loves music and would dance and jump happily to his music.

I really would consider it. Just that they say he’s not predictable. They don’t know when he’d drop the words, if not, they’d have recorded it. And he refuses to repeat especially when he knows your just trying to make him talk.

Hello mama
Preschool Teacher here smiley
Your child could be having a speech delay, and the earlier you act, the better for both of you.
If you cannot afford a therapist, I'd say buy bulk data and go to you-tube. These days, there's nothing you won't find on you tube.
Be patient with him as you help him through this.

Warm hugs and good luck!
Thank you mom Zaynie... what I wouldn’t give to have u work with him. The major problem in this is, he lacks the attention needed. I have done tons of research. Printed flash cards, letters, numbers, matching cards, and downloaded nursery rhymes. His only interested in the rhyme cos he love music naturally. Once I take up the alphabet or other materials, he just want to play with it and would neither sit long enough to let me tell him anything nor look at anything am showing him. It’s really frustrating. I haven’t started reading to him frequently yet, but I talk to him daily. He’ll never sit still longer enough and when I force him to sit and listen, it’s a crying feat.

I haven’t tried printing objects his familiar with around the house. I’ll look into that, perhaps it will catch and keep his attention. It’s all so overwhelming for me too. He was talking clearly when he was 1year 3-4months. Repeating almost every thing clearly... Daddy, mommy, gift, sang his fav songs, etc.. then I Had his sibling when He was 1.6years and his speech literally deteriorated to babbling. I still show him love

He does sometimes seem to try to say words. He could approach me, look me in the face and seriously make a babbling speech, he then looks on me expectantly, and I just respond with “wow that’s great! What else happened?”... he’d just walk away to repeat the babbling.

Hi mommaz.... I've been offline a long while. How una dey? Hope the LOs are doing great. Last i was here, some moms complained about speech regression or delay in LO. What's the update? As for mine. Teachers say he drops words in school(Just started him in Jan) but have not seen much progress at home. Am really concerned and don't know whether they're saying these things truthfully or not. LO is now 2.6years. No frequent words like mommy or daddy, just incomprensible babbles. He says "goal" sometimes when we play ball at home, thats it. I dont have funds to spend on a therapist truthfully, so am just hoping its his own growth. However inputs from other moms will go a long way in helping decide whether to really look into a therapist or wait more.

Greetings to everyone in the house, my one month old has cataarh , what do I give her to ease it plz? Thanks in advance.
Is it actual catarrh or she sounds congested? Most times, at this early age, what we think is catarrh, isn’t. Her airways may just be irritated and congested. So, unless u see the boogy coming out of her nose, then it’s not catarrh.

If it’s catarrh, take her to the hospital for proper evaluation and prescription. She’s too young for self medication.

If it’s congestion, then keeping her comfortable while it clears off is key.
- Keep her head elevated during sleep especially at night when congestion seems worse. Don’t put anything directly under her head. Put it under the mattress at the head side.
-Quit rubbing powder on her body. Talcum in powder causes congestion to their tiny airways. Powder generally causes them congestion when inhaled. The downside of powder at this age outweighs the upside.
-Don’t use/wear heavy perfume or body spray within her vicinity.
-Steam her. Carry her and sit with a bowl of steaming water beside u. Cover yourself with a thick towel or big bedspread to trap the steam in for a while.
-Use open window ventilation as opposed to fan or AC. Use AC instead of fan if u must use any. AC air is filtered, fan isn’t. Remember to tone down the temp.

-At this age, they can ONLY breathe through their nose, pay extra attention. Rush to the hospital if you feel she’s really struggling to breathe. Don’t compromise on this.

Good Morning everyone...

Please my 1yr nd 7months daughter has rashes on her arm plus her face and forehead and then lately started having boils all over even on her eye lid and it's giving me worries but friends are saying it's her own pattern of teething that some babies stool alot while teething...am thinking of giving her antibiotics is this okay... though she is taking Babyrex at the moment but the book increasing is my worry...

Please help advice on what can be done.
I’m of the opinion that it has very little to do with teething itself. Boils especially is not related. Rashes could be as a result of sweating a lot on the area. I believe she should be active at that age. Teething can lead to mild fever cos of the pain. However stooling associated with it is as a result to the unclean hands and objects they put in their mouth in an attempt soothe the itch and pain.

For the boils; I recommend original ampiclox suspension. If u keep strictly to the timing, it dries up boils like magic. But u MUST time and follow up STRICTLY. Otherwise, it could dry up the current ones but another might crop up. Strict follow up with timing stops recurrence. This is my observation thus far.

As for the rashes; Rashes always takes it’s toll and go. It only worsens if it’s opened and infected. Apply prickly heat or agnesia powder after bath, morning and evening, as many times as she baths. No need to overly scrub the rashes. Dry the area frequently of sweat when she’s playing. Keep her cool as much as possible. It’ll run it’s time and go.

Breastfeeding whilst pregnant doesn’t harm any. U just have to eat well and be untop of your vitamin game. Fruits and veggies included. Just keep yourself up to demand and your good to go.

Good morning moms, please I need your help... My daughter will be 9 months tomorrow but takes her head back all the time especially when she wants to look at someone.

Again she sits unsupported, still doesn't crawl on all fours but she can move forward to pick things in front of her using her bum.

My MIL (mother-in-law) says my mom did not press her well that's why she is not strong.

Please I need your advice as I am a first time mom with zero experience.
Pressing or not is totally unrelated to whatever is happening. Your mom did the best job that she can.

Not all babies crawl, some skip it and start walking. Some don’t CRAWL per say, but move around with their butt and hands, or their feet and hands, some hop on their butt too.

I dunno what u mean by taking head back, but everyone is prolly towering over her and not at her eye level, so she might have to tilt he head upwards to look at people. This is normal.

But it it’s really bothersome, u can take her in for checkup at the hospital.

Please house, my daughter has Jaundice which she has been battling with since she's been given birth too and she's 7months now. We have done all test possible and most of it was positive. But recently a doc said we should go for scan and it was discovered she has a biliary atresia which can only be corrected with surgery. To what I read about is, it's not 100% sure way, and at a time in her life she may required a liver transplant and I don't even have that much to cover the first surgery not to talk to the transplant.. Please, is there anything we can can do to help cure this long Jaundice?
I don’t have experience with this. Hold on for other sabi momma’s. Sending lots of hugs and kisses to DD. It’s not easy and I commend your strength and dedication thus far.

In the mighty name of Jesus, I declare the end of this jaundice, Amen. Everlasting divine healing and restoration. Amen.

New moms please help.

So I started feeding my baby with a feeder cos breast milk wasnt coming out after birth.
Now the milk is here but the baby is not sucking, he just cries instead of grabbing and sucking, although my nipple is a bit big.

What can i do? It is really worrying.
Keep putting him to breast, fit the nipple into his crying mouth and begin pressing out milk with your hand into his mouth. He’ll taste the milk and drink and before long realize the nipple gives him milk. Always supplement with the bottle if he didn’t suckle much. The main aim is to ensure his well fed.

How I wish I'm not with mother in law, they are just doing opposite to my baby. Can't imagine mixing funbact A with Ori for two weeks old baby, giving her agbo and suggesting treating one foolish oka again. My baby is not even smelling like a new baby but like chemist. I'm crying typing this
Oh dear mom,
Wipe your eyes, I understand the feeling of helplessness especially when u have to maintain peace. They never agree, they think they know better, not knowing it’s God that saved us from their ignorance when we ourselves were babies. Now his instilled knowledge and wisdom in us, u must be bold and crafty if u cannot be direct.

Am scared for u to even leave her in their care for even a minute. Take advice of moms here and speak to hubby first, then doctor. Of a truth, that funbact and agbo is a NO. If all fails, u must be wise.

Have someone bring ori plenty for u, pour out the mixture and replace it with the fresh one. Remember to work on it so it has same appearance with the one she mixed. Add a baby lotion if needed to achieve the consistency.

That agbo, u need to stop it cos I can’t think of any remedy. Toning it down my adding more water won’t be enough. It needs to stop. Keep insisting and protesting about this. Here, u have to be bold.

They cry a lot during bath time anyway, insist on feeding as soon as she wears clothes and take baby and go. In all, pray for wisdom and strength. May God help u.

How do u cut a baby's sharp finger nails without hurting d baby
Baby’s small nail cutter. Be sure u put it on the nails without catching the flesh( pull on the skin a little before positioning the nail cutter). Nail cutter is safer than razor cos they can shake at any time and razor will easily cause harm and damage. Just be careful. They’re supposed to fuss and shake, be prepared. U got this momma.

Hello Mums in the house.
My baby is 2 wks and I have the following questions;
1) How do I clear rashes on her skin? I stopped using Johnson's products cos I figured it caused it.
2) is there any cream or ointment I can use in addition to hot water/steam massage t make my v. Stitches heal faster?the pain is not from here oo
3) how long does it take for babies to start responding or reacting to gestures like smiling and playing cos she doesn't. She just keeps looking at you.
4) is it normal for them to strain before they poo?
5) what creams are advisable to use on them?
6) i noticed my bre.ast milk is watery. Is it good for the baby?
Sometimes, one bre.ast milk is watery and the other one is thick. Pls what does this mean?
7) She doesn't suck for more than 10-15 mins and doses off. Should I be worried?

Thank you for your anticipated responses.
2weeks old u say?
1. They have rashes that looking like multiple tiny pimple on the face especially, that would clear on its own, it’s due to the hormones encountered while in the womb. If it’s heat rash, dress her according to the weather. A layer extra of what you would wear during any weather.
2. Don’t know if any, so sorry.
3. At 2weeks old, it’s just eat and sleep. Activity should start at 2months plus. Just go with her flow basically.
4. Very normal. Just trying to figure out how to get the poo out. During bath, drop water on her clit to help her poo and pee instinctively.
5. Any natural cream that won’t cause her heat. Better still, just leave her skin be sef. Original Vaseline, Johnson, ori if u must. Nothing like toning.
6. Breast milk is perfect at all times. It’s constitution is just perfect as it is for DD. Note that there’s FORE and HIND milk in the breast. The first that comes when sucking is FOREmilk composed of mostly water. This is why exclusively fed babies don’t require water again. After they have suckled this high water composition foremilk, the hindmilk composed of the main rich milk comes afterward. Therefore, ensure u let her suckle on one breast for a considerable time during each feed. Changing breast during one Feed might end up giving her only the water based foremilk.
5. Feed according to her demand. At most 2-3hrs interval.

Attention please!!!

Good evening everyone.

Please o I need help, my dd of 6ms doesn't like breast milk, I'll have to force her each time I want to feed her.
Thank you all
Running temp and diarrhea isn’t good. Visit the hospital if it persists. It’s not teething. It’s the dirt, bacteria, and germ she’s introduced to her system as a result of chewing on everything she can lay hands on.

Did u use a bottle for her early on for feeding? Bottle fed babies tend to reject direct breast nursing and vice versa. Just feed her with bottle, spoon etc. Main thing is that she eats and gets fluids.
