Politics › No Ransom Paid For Release Of Emir Of Zamfara - Police by amzee(op): 6:51am On Mar 28, 2015
Gusau - The police in Zamfara
have denied any payment to the
gunmen that abducted the Emir of
Bukkuyum, Alhaji Muhammad
Usman, from his palace on March
20.

The police was reacting to
speculations that 10 million was
paid to the abductors before they
released the emir.

The Police Public Relations Officer
in the State, Sanusi Amiru (DSP), in
Gusau on Friday said that "as far
as we know, no ransom was paid
to the abductors before they
released the emir.

"If you say a ransom was paid, then
you should be able to say how
much it was, from which source it
was drawn and how it was paid to
the criminals.’’

He said the emir was found at
Gadar Zaima village which borders
Zamfara and Kebbi states through
Bukkuyum Local Government Area.

According to him, the emir, Alhaji
Muhammad Usman, now in his
60s and had served on the throne
for 14 years, returned in good
health and since reunited with his
family and subjects.

The state Commissioner for
Information, Alhaji Ibrahim Birnin-
Magaji, denied any monetary
transaction towards the return of
the emir.

He said "the emir was dropped at
Gadan Zaima by his abductors and
he brought himself home.’’
The emir was kidnapped from his
palace at gunpoint after which
security agents, supported by the
State Government, commenced
search to rescue him before his
emergence on Wednesday.

The police maintained that his
abductors would be fished out and
made to face the full wrath of the
law.

those have been replaced by
lesser known acts.

With the forthcoming release of
his 7th studio album, 9ice

Politics › Re: This Man Who Was Jailed By Buhari In 1984 Has Endorsed Buhari (PHOTO by amzee(op): 8:38am On Mar 27, 2015
While time heals, the impact of
such injustice endures. It leaves
a telling effect which you carry
for the rest of your life. Ironically,
when I was finally released, I
was in hospital where I had just
undergone an emergency
operation.
Liberty had come at
last but it met me totally broken
and incapacitated.

At my release and after, no one
offered any apology for this
gruesome and very unjust
recompense. Nobody, without
due process, should ever have
the power to visit such
humiliation and injustice on any
human being. The irony of
dictatorship is that a leader can
be so conscientiously wrong in
his crusading mission.
The
Buhari regime was very wrong
in my case as in the case of
several others. I, along with
many others, had come into
office with the purest motive of
service. It was what I had
always wanted to do. I thought
it was my life’s mission and
when the opportunity came I did
the work as if my life depended
on it. I left a lucrative practice to
serve my people. I was totally
accountable, yet I was unfairly
thrown into jail for no just cause
for 18 months!

Our nation’s survival first

That was many years ago and
since I have focused on re-
building my life and raising my
family. I have prayed and tried
hard to forgive my unjust
tormentors but I know that the
scar is there and people like Lola
Shoneyin stroke that weak point
now and again, albeit
unwittingly. Obviously this is
not an experience that can be
wished away because it
evidently affected my being and
changed my life fundamentally.
It makes me appreciate people
like Mandela so much – 26
years on Robben Island (have
you been there?) and he came
out with no bitterness and no
guile! Such men are rare!
Understandably then, it has
taken some effort for me to
embrace Buhari’s candidacy. I
have never voted for him. I did
not even like him. But as my
friend, Audu Ogbeh said to me
once, “so much has gone wrong
with our polity that our
emphasis now must not be on
ourselves but on the survival of
the nation.” I have no doubt he
is right. This is a time when the
overriding interest must be that
of the country. As a student of
history, I know that while
constitutions can be copied and
adopted, in the end every nation
will only learn by its national
experience. The history of many
of the democracies we admire
today is replete with
unimaginable and odious
occurrences that characterised
their development. It is obvious
to me that the trust we reposed
in President Jonathan in 2011
has been wantonly squandered.
The sobering state of our nation
and real politic has made me
take another look at Gen Buhari.
How viable is he for our polity
given the available options? Is
the General the devil he is
portrayed to be, or a victim of
circumstances or a
misunderstood individual?

Jonathan, a disappointment
To me, President Jonathan has
been such a disappointment in
many critical areas of our
national life. There has been
unprecedented violence and
blood-letting under this
administration, which, naively in
my view, treated the Boko
Haram insurgency with kid
gloves and a total lack of
resolve. Today, Boko Haram has
established a formidable force
and has succeeded, before our
very eyes, in changing the map
of Nigeria. The President
appears to have turned deaf
ears to the voices of wisdom
and surrounded himself with
cronies, whose main pre-
occupation is to exploit him.
Some of his spokesmen have
made a virtue of rascality and
turned public relations upside
down. Miscreants, who should
be in jail for their past deeds, are
the ones now threatening that
our collective vote must go a
particular way or there will be
insurrection.

We never heard of “democracy”
at gunpoint till now.
To the discerning, it is clear that
the Boko Haram insurgency has
been employed as a source of
inscrutable abuse, or how else
do we explain a Nigerian private
plane filled with raw US dollars
being impounded abroad? How
many such plane-loads
escaped without being caught is
anybody’s guess, yet our troops
are said to be so ill-equipped
that the insurgents have better
arms. All this, despite the huge
sums that have been voted for
defence under this
administration; one wonders
where all that money went.

Then the massive corruption in
every sphere of public office –
pension funds stuffed into
pillows and mattresses among
others. The disgusting state
pardon for a man, who, before
an incredulous world, broke the
terms to a court order and left
Britain dressed as a woman!
This is not how a leader should
exercise such hallowed
prerogative power. The
President’s conduct sent a
chilling message down the
spine of the polity that
corruption and stealing are the
way to go.

You can add to that the
company of shady men wanted
abroad for all manner of crimes,
including drug offences, who
have been installed in positions
of leadership in the PDP or have
been fielded as senatorial
candidates. The management or
lack of it of our foreign reserves
(which have become totally
depleted) and reports of billions
of missing dollars dominate the
air. Everybody who is working
hard is in trouble. Joblessness
has risen to record levels. The
youths are, justifiably restless
because they have no future in
the present dispensation. The
tales of woe are just endless.
Billions of dollars have
disappeared into petroleum
subsidy, yet, even the cost of
kerosene, the poor man’s fuel, is
at an all-time high. It is the oil
sheiks that are being subsidised
not the ordinary people. To say
the ship of state is clearly adrift
in Nigeria is an understatement.

A land that should be flowing
with milk and honey has
become the laughing stock of
the international community. We
simply can no longer tolerate
this grotesque level of gluttony
and of corruption. There is an
urgent need for a change.
Otherwise, we face a huge
problem and social dislocation
ahead, beyond what we already
have.

Buhari means well
These are the reasons why I
have embraced Buhari. If you
look at his past, and some of the
statements credited to him, he
is not an easy man for a person
like me to embrace. But 30
years is a long time and I
honestly believe he has had
enough time to reflect and to
change. He is no more a
military officer. He has retained
a sharp, social conscience for
the people. I am impressed with
the hunger with which he has
fought for elections. I want to
believe that it is out of an
earnest desire to work for the
people and to do some things
right that Gen Buhari has
struggled so hard to win the
nation’s leadership through the
electoral process. While he may
not be a saint, he is certainly not
a villain.
His choice of a very
good man in Prof Yemi
Osinbajo, for a Vice President
gave me the assurance that Gen
Buhari was listening to the
comments on his areas of
weakness. There are enough
checks and balances in a
democratic set up to make fears
of a return to dictatorship a
joke. I am also impressed by his
modest lifestyle, unlike many of
his ilk who live in opulence and
indulgence.This says something
about the man. I can trust this
man with my wallet in a way i
cannot do with Jonathan, who
appears to have forgotten where
he came from. Jonathan has
lost the golden opportunity to
fundamentally affect the lives of
the ordinary folks.

I am persuaded that it will be a
tragedy for us to continue in this
drift for another four years. While
Buhari is far from being my ideal
candidate and I worry about
some of his deficiencies, my
perception is that although he
may be short on the skills
required for the modern
management of a state –
technology, economic
management among others –
his record shows that he has the
ability to enlist support. I hope
this time; he will choose the
right people and avoid those
who will use his name to do
iniquity. While Buhari may not
be the ideal candidate we need,
he is, certainly the best we have.

There is a time in the history of
a nation when an individual is
needed to rescue it or perform a
historic role. As it was with
Winston Churchill who provided
Britain with the much needed
war-time leadership, Gen
Charles de Gaulle who restored
the confidence of France,
Madiba Nelson Mandela of
South Africa, who championed
the cause of majority rule and
showed the way to national
reconciliation and our own Gen.
Olusegun Obasanjo, who
provided leadership to a country
on the brink after the Abacha
years, my belief is that this is the
hour for Muhammadu Buhari to
stop the torment of a
hemorrhaging nation and
restore its confidence.

Lastly, the General owes me
one. I will still like Buhari to
vocalise an apology and offer
some succour to people like me
whom his government
brutalised in the past. It is the
least he can do. To do so is not
weakness. Indeed, it is strength
to admit the mistakes of the
past and to promote national
reconciliation. For now, even.
ahead of the apology, and in the
national interest, i have thrown
in my hat with Gen. Buhari. So
has Lola Shoneyin’s father. Now
87, but still spritely and alert,
my big brother and comrade,
Tinuoye Shoneyin, always a big
heart, is enthusiastically by my
side at political rallies and party
support meetings. Our jailer has
become our hope. Life is indeed
nothing if not an agglomeration
of ironies..

Politics › This Man Who Was Jailed By Buhari In 1984 Has Endorsed Buhari (PHOTO by amzee(op): 8:33am On Mar 27, 2015
Adeyemi Adefulu, a Lagos-
based lawyer who was jailed by
Gen Muhammadu Buhari during
his regime 30 years ago, says
the former head of state remains
the country’s hope for change.
Adefulu, a Member of the
Federal Republic (MFR),
believes Gen Buhari is on a
rescue mission.

Story highlights:
– I was in the gulag for 18
months, 16 of which I spent in
the Abeokuta prison.
– The open and vocal agitation
of many well-meaning citizens,
including Prof Wole Soyinka, for
my release was an act of grace
for which I will forever be
grateful.
– President Jonathan has been
such a disappointment in many
critical areas of our national life.
I found Lola Shoneyin’s piece on
Buhari titled: “How My Father’s
Jailer Can Offer Nigeria A Fresh
Start” very engaging, although it
dredged up some very painful
memories. It took me down the
memory lane; indeed, it was a
vivid reminder of an awful road
on which l, and others like Audu
Ogbeh, now an ardent Buhari
backer, travelled. It was my
painful duty as the “Captain” of
the detainees, to receive Lola’s
father, Tinuoye Shoneyin, an
engineer, into the Abeokuta
prison and to make him as
comfortable as possible in the
extremely difficult prison
environment, providing him with
clothes, a towel and toiletries.
Shoneyin had, as a matter of
courtesy, responded to the
invitation of the government of
Ogun State, then led by Col
Oladipo Diya, who later became
the deputy to Gen. Sani Abacha
(the late Head of State), to
answer some questions and had
expected to be back home that
evening. He was not to return
home for six months!

Lola’s account dwelt on the
torture that she (at such a young
age) and her family had to
endure and the telling effect of
such an experience on the
family. Many detainees never
recovered from the torture and
the injustice that this experience
represented. In many cases,
mine included, there was no
accusation, much less a charge.
One slight misstatement in
Lola’s account was that the
detention was at the behest of
Col. Tunde Idiagbon, the
erstwhile deputy to Gen Buhari.
I doubt if that is quite true. The
problem with autocracy is that
once the atmosphere has been
established, or allowed by the
leader, many tin gods at the
various levels of the strata will
for any number of reasons,
exploit the situation for the
purpose of settling personal and
petty scores, including
disputations over girlfriends!
So, in the case of Lola’s father,
the local despot at the time was
Col Oladipo Diya, who was
mean, brutal and sadistic and
locked up as many people as he
wanted, for good, bad or
sometimes no reason at all. He
flogged civil servants for
lateness, taxed the people on
every imaginable score, and
signed for nearly 20 people who
had been sentenced to death
(none of whom his predecessor
permitted to be killed), to be
executed by hanging in one day.
He revelled in making people
suffer wherewith he was
promptly given the name of
“Kunya” (meaning tormentor
which was the direct opposite of
what his name “Diya” means in
Yoruba language. He was,
indeed, the harbinger of torment
and suffering. He, it was who
saw a ghost in every situation. If
the sun was too bright, he
blamed it on the dethroned
politicians.
He was a cruel task-
master, who tried irrationally to
get water out of stone. At a
stage he rounded up contractors
who had done various jobs for
the state government and
dictated that they should either
pay certain arbitrary fines or be
locked up in prison.

In jail for 18 months

I was in the gulag for 18
months, 16 of which I spent in
the Abeokuta prison. Prior to
this time, I had presided over
three ministries in four years
and three months. There was
never an accusation or a charge
of any sort against me. His
investigators were surprised at
how clean my affairs were and
how I could succinctly explain
every transaction I was involved
in, including providing
photocopies of cheques that
even pre-dated my
appointment. “Were you
expecting that this type of thing
would happen? Why did you
leave a thriving law practice for
a job like this?” they asked me
repeatedly. Therein lies the
dilemma of our country that
needs good people to preside
over its affairs, yet castigates
the few who dare to get in the
fray. “The punishment for the
wise, who refuse to take part in
the government of their people,”
said a Greek philosopher, “is to
be ruled by fools.”
I came to understand that
Diya’s grouse with me was that
I was so close to the late Chief
Olabisi Onabanjo, my governor,
and that there was no way of
getting Onabanjo without
getting Adefulu, his political son
and confidant! “Onabanjo did
nothing Adefulu did not know
of,” Diya was reported to have
said repeatedly. So l had to be
purged! Oluokun, the head of
state security, himself a
dastardly character, was Diya’s
hatchet man. When all efforts at
intimidation and harassment
failed, they changed tactics and
tried to recruit me as an
informant against the late
Onabanjo. It soon became clear
to them however, that I was not
going to be party to their pursuit
of crass injustice and motive
hunting. I asked Oluokun
pointedly to cock his gun and
shoot and kill me because under
no circumstances would I be
part of such villainy. In any
case, unless I wanted to become
a liar, such incriminating
evidence did not exist except in
the figment of Diya’s convoluted
imagination. The late Onabanjo
was the quintessential leader –
open, fair-minded, as straight as
a spoke and a great lover of the
people; a man who, to this day,
several years after his demise, I
still hold in the highest regard.

Time heals

Genevieve Magazine at the time
of my incarceration, my family
was at a more delicate stage
than the Shoneyins, because it
was younger and less endowed.
My first son Adeoye, was just
under 10 years and our last
daughter, Dayo was three
months old. I was 37 years old
at the time of the coup. My
family was subjected to a long
and extremely humiliating
deprivation. It was the unjust
compensation I received for a
job to which I gave the very best
of my life at a very young age
(try as you may, such injustice
never leaves you. The wound
may heal but the scar is there
and sometimes stares you in the
face).
I tried hard to be strong and for
the most part, I was. The
knowledge that I had served
with the very best of my ability
in a job I truly enjoyed, gave me
peace of mind and assurance.
The open and vocal agitation of
many well-meaning citizens,
including Prof Wole Soyinka, for
my release was an act of grace
for which I will forever be
grateful. The only time I broke
down was the day my son,
Adeoye, turned 10. With a
smuggled recorder, I had
recorded a birthday message for
him and his young siblings
admonishing them to be strong
in the knowledge that God was
on our side. After recording the
message, I wept profusely. It
was terrible! My co-prisoners,
including my Deputy Governor,
the late Chief Sesan Soluade,
and the present Emir of Suleija,
Alhaji Anwal Ibrahim, the
erstwhile Governor of Niger
State, and the others, tried hard
to console me. I had been the
strong one, the encourager of the
brethren, but I guess the cup had
become too full and it ran over.

Politics › I Will Cast My Vote For Muhammadu Buhari---pastor Tunde Bakare by amzee(op): 7:00am On Mar 26, 2015
The General Overseer of Latter Rain
Assembly, Pastor Tunde Bakare has
described General Muhammadu Buhari of the
All Progressive Congress, APC, as a
man of integrity who he has a high
level of respect for.

“Buhari’s integrity is one factor that
appears to be the winning mark for
APC. This is one attribute that even
the PDP has not been able to fault.”
Bakare Blasts CAN, PFN For
Endorsing Jonathan...

Another factor working for Buhari, he
said, is the fact that those who
contested the party’s presidential
ticket with him have remained good
sportsmen and have remained in the
party in line with the undertaking
signed before the primary that that
they would remain in the party
whether they lose or win.

Pastor Bakare was the running mate
of Buhari on the platform of the
Congress for Progressive Change in
the 2011 presidential election.

Meanwhile, he had on several
occasions criticized CAN, PFN and
others for endorsing President
Jonathan for the presidential election
at the expense of one of their own,
Prof.
Yemi Osinbajois the running
mate to the APC, presidential
candidate, Muhammadu Buhari.

Pastor Bakare said Nigerians should
go out and vote for Change.

We as Africans (Nigerians in

higher being and things we don’t see
more than those in the western world.

We believe in conspiracy theories, the
afterlife, Jazz, Juju, Witches and
Wizards and marine spirits. What
prompted this right up was a
comment I heard from someone
recently.

I was downing a bottle of coke
(actually am not a coke person but
the ‘share a coke with’ concept was
what stimulated me to be drinking
coke) and the lady said ‘don’t drink
coke anymore oh, don’t you know
that it is demonic, can’t you see that
you are sharing your coke with
‘mammy water’. They have probably
even finished it before you started
drinking it’.
I was like shooo….so
Chidinma, Ayo and Esther are all
‘mammy water spirits’.
Then she started telling me stories of
how everything that happens on this
planet has already been determined
or established in the marine world
right before it even begins here and
that Coca-Cola has a deal with the
occult and that that’s what brought
about the ’share a coke with’ idea.
And that everybody drinking coke has
been initiated into the occult. So I did
the math and I concluded that if her
theories where to be true, then about
5billion people have already been
initiated into the occult.

Who else agrees with this?

Politics › Re: An Open Letter To General Muhamadu Buhari-by Frederick Olatunde Awote by amzee(op): 7:49am On Mar 13, 2015
If we want development we must fight
and conquer corruption. We must vote
for a leader that is free from the illness
of corruption. We must set aside our
affiliations with political parties, our
promotion of ethnicities, religion and
selfishness and go for a man of
integrity. You have been seen to be
corruption free and as of today you are
the only presidential candidate who can
walk tall and talk to us on how to cure
corruption cancer.
Nigerians must be part of the solution to
reduce corruption, you will fail if you
think you can do it on your own. We
must all be determined to tackle
hazards of corruption. Each Nigerian
must be declared as CORRUPTION
ALERT AGENT. There must be
corruption alert boxes in all major
ministries, offices, airports, police
stations and public places. There must
be a civil ministry on corruption. We
must do it differently. We cannot entrust
it to the Police or corruption agents as
presently constituted. Nigerians must
take over. No one should be spare. The
rule of law must prevail. When I was
small I remember, we have what we
called civil arrest. I remember one of my
late cousins told a man that he was
under civil arrest and led him to the
Police station. In the UK today, Police
rely much on information to arrest
criminals. Individuals are protected
particularly the old people that are the
best informants. We must be re-
orientated to know how to report
crimes. General, you must establish
Crime Stoppers as voluntary
organisations to handle corruptions.
Crime Stoppers must be in every Local
Government, States and Federal
Territory as voluntary agents under
National Crime Stoppers. It must not be
business as usual but seriously
executed.
In order to develop information
gathering and involve Nigerians, the
General must change the attitude of
Politicians, civil servants and
presidency on their attitudes to
Nigerians when they write to complain
about services. Letters must be replied
with follow up steps. It is common
practice for people in authorities to
ignore letters, complaints and concerns.
The public must be made supreme
during your tenure. Civil Servants must
know that they are working for the
people. No politician can steal without
the help of Civil Servants, they are the
one who knows the loopholes. The irony
of it is that no one talk about the
contribution of Civil Servants to looting
of Treasuries. The General must start
from the presidency by replying to
letters and enquiries. I wrote to Clinton,
Tonny Blaire, Gordon Brown and they all
replied me signed personally. People in
authorities don’t reply letters in Nigeria.
The moment they occupy any position,
they think others are fools. It is common
practice for Personal Assistants and
Sectretaries to dump letters in dust bins
or claim public ideas as theirs and use it
to impress the boss. I believe this was
what happened to the three letters that I
wrote to Bola Tinubu, whom I think will
not ignore them.
You must be ready to develop social
economy through voluntary
organisations. This will involve
Nigerians to take part in running the
affairs of the nation. Volunteers must be
encouraged in all areas of our nation,
from health, education, housing, road
constructions to policing. Development
of social economy will create jobs and
public participation. Shifting of
importance of oil to agriculture will
boost our economy and provide jobs.
Housing is one of the neglected areas
today that I know can create millions of
jobs. I worked with L K Jakande and
worked in Social Housing in the UK for
many years, I know that it is a spin-off
area for jobs. Why must we suffer in the
land of the plenty? We can dominate the
world in agriculture if pursue honestly
and with will to do it.
The General must set targets for
himself, ministries, governors and
council chairmen. He must have one to
one with his Ministers and even
Governors. Targets must be reviewed
periodically. Chief Awolowo set targets
for the UPN Governors and that was one
of the reasons why they performed well
in their states. Free education was
declared the first day in Government. I
am sure you can still remember how L K
Jakande performed even when critics
think it cannot be possible. You must be
ready to make best use of available
resources. You must not rely only on
party members or supporters. You must
go for the best brains and those who
have the will to perform. We have them
in abundant. There must put a stop to
recycling leaders. These people killed
the previous regimes and they are ready
to continue. You must beware of praise
singers and those who always go for
any Government in power.
One thing you must do the first day is to
announce the cutting of unnecessary
budget in Aso Rock. How can you justify
allocation of N545 millions for foods
and 2 billion for security votes where
millions of people are sleeping under the
bridge? How can you justify spending
N29 million on each Senator per month
in a land where minimum wage is
N18,000.00 per month? From the Local
Government to State Assemblies it must
be part-time and voluntary. It must be
made less attractive for thieves. I
started as a councillor in Mushin Local
Government and our salary was
N600.00 per month. Why must we
continue with a system that encourage
looting of treasuries? Today you need
billions to contest for Senatorial
position not to talk of Presidency and
governorship. It is abnormal. One thing
that Babangida, as evil as he later
turned to be, done was to shift power to
the Political Parties and render money
bags useless, promoting equal
members.
Sir, the success of your Government will
start on the first day and direction of you
Government will be known in the first
six months. If I were you sir, I will
declare state of emergency on
corruption on my first day. I will
announce establishment of Social
Security and start with un-employment
benefits for Graduates without jobs. I
will launch National Lottery from which
I will temporarily fund the Graduate un-
employment payment. Within six
months Sir, you should ensure changes
in supply and distribution of our
electricity. I am sure that you are aware
that we are one of the biggest nations
without national carrier. Our Nigeria
Airways was killed by corruption. It is a
national disgrace. We have no doubt
that you will start of with the
establishment of a serious team to
rejuvenate our refineries. We are the
only large oil producing nation that
imports refine oil products. It is more
that shameful. This became the practice
because of corruption. We know that
you can do it as you did it before. You
must also declare free and compulsory
education from primary to secondary
schools and establish more technical
colleges. Our education system is
almost down and it must be rescued
fast. You must quickly set up a team to
review the fat pensions and allowance
for past Governors, Head of State and
Presidents. What we are hearing that
they are receiving is enormously high in
a developing nation like ours. Same
thing should happen to the allowances
and payments to legislators. We cannot
continue to pay legislators N29 million
per month, it is not viable in a nation
where the citizens are in abject poverty.
The Youth Service must be reviewed
and made compulsory. Civic and ethics
duties must be emphasised. Voluntary
and community duties must be made
compulsory. I can’t count how many
times that I came out of my car during
my service year to assist traffic
wardens. Voluntary Services must be re-
introduced on our roads. During Prof
Wole Shoyinka era, there were voluntary
marshals. I remembered I arrested
drivers on Ibadan/ Lagos express roads.
Volunteers cannot be bribed. You must
prune the power of Civil Servants in a
way that they are answerable to the
public. A form of loans can be provided
for those who want to go to
Universities. People must be helped to
start their own businesses by creating
Business Trust Organisations.
Sir, there is one more thing that is
bothering me in this country. Politicians
and the so call leaders playing the card
of tribalism, brainwashing people that
Presidency is turn by turn. It has never
been pronounced as it was presently.
The people of Niger Delta claiming it is
their right despite the failure of their
son-Jonathan in government. The so
called Arewa leaders claiming it is their
turn to have the president. I quickly
wrote to condemn them, or any group
playing the card of region or ethnicity or
religion to deceive the people. I said it is
the turn of General Buhari because of his
ability and credibility and he belongs to
all regions and Nigerians not to the
Northern oligarchy or power block. Now
I want to talk about this turn by turn
notion of the North. What development
have these people brought to the North
to justify how many years they have
been in charge of the nation? These
people amassed wealth for themselves,
families and friends, keeping the
masses perpetually poor. Majority of
them provides food for the poor masses
every Fridays but never assisted them to
be economically free. The leaders that
we need in the North are credible ones,
not the one like Jerry Gana that has
been part of the ruling team for the last
30 years without bringing development
home. It is any Government in power
since the day of MAMSER. You must
create enabling environment that will
allow Nigerians to live, play politics and
represent the community where they
live. This was what they did to deny
Chief Obafemi Awolowo the opportunity
to lead this nation even though they
knew he was pragmatic and determined
to lead the nation to the Promised Land.
Never again should this happen to our
serious and determined people.
I have no doubt that once, you face all
these problems, drastically reduce
corruption, give new positive direction to
us, basic things provided, such as
enviable education, first class health
system, availability of jobs, training,
excellent transportation, genuinely low
income housing, there will be less urge
to live in primitive ways of accumulating
wealth for the ‘rainy days’
Sir, I want to tell you that the eyes of the
whole world are and will continue to be
on you. At the moment you are
surrounded with thieves and some of the
people that are promoting corruption.
More will be queuing to join you. Some
of them fled from PDP and some are in
APC. We know them. How are you going
to deal with them? Sir, in 1984 I wrote
to you when Politicians were being tried
for corruption practices. I said you
should not jail them but bargain with
them on how much they have looted. I
said if for example one person stole N50
million and that amount was a lot in
those days, let him forfeited half of the
money to the Government, then allow
him to invest the balance in his local
government with some checks and
balances in place to monitor them. But
things are not the same today that
cannot be possible in a democratic
environment. Today what I will say is to
first allow self confess and what they
can voluntary return to the people for
development. Sir, the money these
people has siphoned abroad can pay off
our International debt. Anyone not co-
operating then can face the music.
Throwing them to jail will not yield
much result. Sir avoids these public
rogues, do not give them any
appointment, only appoint non-
controversial people and those who are
free from epidemic of corruption.
Beware of those who will recommend
their agents and stooges for
appointment. The likes of Fanikayode,
Okupe and Abatti can only create more
problems for your government. There are
thousands of Nigeria over there like
Dapo Rotifa, Bello Isiaka, Abebayo
Adeneye-Adejuwon, Susan Henshaw,
Ayo Turton, Keyamo, Abubakar Alkali
and even my very self that loves this
nation, not thinking of how to steal but
how to make things work once again for
our nation.
Above all, we as Nigerians need to join
hands with General Buhari in these
enormous tasks ahead of us. The
journey cannot be easy because things
are in critical position. We must join
hands to lift our nation up and
command world respect. We can lead
the world. To those who are bringing in
irrelevant things like certificates,
religion, ethnicity, age, stop it Nigerians
are ready for Buhari leadership. Also
those who are promoting Buhari should
stop promoting him as Hausa man,
Fulani, Northerner, Muslim but as
Nigeria candidate and corruption free
man for the position of Nigeria
President. The campaign train has
shown that Nigerian love transparency
and credible person. The reception and
crowd has shown that Buhari is a man
of people. Although he is not a poor man
but he has no money to bribe the
electorates but relying on his credibility.
As Military man, a General for that
matter he will tackle the Nation security
problem. Buhari is the man, come all
out to vote for the man of the moment,
vote General Mohammadu Buhari.
Yours sincerely

Politics › An Open Letter To General Muhamadu Buhari-by Frederick Olatunde Awote by amzee(op): 7:48am On Mar 13, 2015
Dear General,
My name is Frederick Olatunde Awote,
former Personal Assistant to Alhaji L K
Jakande, one of the finest, reliable and
credible politicians in Nigeria. I am
currently based in the UK. I am going to
be simple and straight forward in my
writing but the letter is going to be long.
If you have no time to read through, your
Vice, Prof Osinbajo should be able to do
so. I am one of your adamant supporters
not only now but for a long time. The
masses are supporting you not because
you are in APC but because of your
credibility. Sir, we are not begging you
to be President but it is your choice. We
have always had reluctant president.
Shagari was persuaded to be one,
Obasanjo was asked to be one after
leaving prison, Yar’Adua was recruited
by Obasanjo, Jonathan was brought in
to protect the loots of the past leaders.
Chief Obafemi Awolowo, Chief Azikuwe,
Chief M K O Abiola prepared to be
President but the enemies of our nation
denied them. It is not too late now to tell
Nigerians if you are not prepared. We
only want prepared president now
because of our enormous problems.
I am writing you to remind you of the
gigantic problems of Nigeria which you
have promised to tackle. It is under
estimation to say that ours is a
hazardous nation. As you are aware, an
average Nigerian knows the problems
facing the nation, even most people can
analyse and provide solutions. The
problems facing the nation today are
many than when you were Military Head
of State. I remembered I have just
completed my Masters degree and
returned to Nigeria from the UK when
you took over power in 1983. The
problems then were child play to the one
today. There is no area that is not sick
presently, from education, health,
agriculture, custom and excise,
immigration, commerce, roads, police,
security, army, export, petroleum,
mining, politics, judiciary, prison,
aviation, religion, even driving on our
roads. Our nation is at the point of
collapse. As I touch on some of these
problems, I will suggest the way forward
or if you like solutions. The only thing
that is triumphing today is corruption.
There is one thing that we have though,
God given abundant resources. Our
nation is blessed; for example, just
throw a seed of pawpaw, mango in the
near bush, before you know it they have
germinated. Our bitumen in Ondo State
has not been touched, gold and coal has
been neglected. We have the natural
resources, land and human population.
The problems we are having today are
not only leadership problem but bad
followers. Our society is rotten.
Nigerians have ethical problem despite
our devotion to religions. What you need
to do on this is to declare ethical
revolution, similar to your War against
Indiscipline. When we were in Primary
School, we were taught Civic as a
subject, where we learnt about what a
good citizens should do. This was
stopped and nothing replaced it. What
we worship today is money. You must
carry Nigerians along and let them
know why we all need new orientation
and direction. Our image as a nation
has been damaged and dented all over
the world. Part of the ethical revolution
must be for people to be contented with
what they have. We must stop
worshipping money. The Home training
must be at the centre. Majority of young
people today did not see Nigeria when
things work and were not aware of your
achievements when in charge as
Military Head of State. Nigeria needs
new direction. You must engage
Nigerians in governance. You need to
know sir that Nigerians are very
intelligent, hard working, and can
compete anywhere in the world but our
orientation and eager to acquire wealth
at all costs are second to none. Our past
and present leaders are aware of our
problems; most of them have the ability
to provide solutions but lack will and
determination due to intention to enrich
themselves. What we know of you is
that you have the will and determination
to deal with these problems. That is
why we are supporting you.
Mr General Sir, the next the biggest
enemy of our development is corruption.
This is one of the reasons that we are
supporting you. We are aware of your
credible track records on corruption,
which is rare to get from most past
leaders. Corruption in our land is what
we notice everywhere, at the airports,
ministries, hospitals, courts, schools,
military establishments, police stations,
road blocks, local councils and even in
homes. It is what we complained about
daily, condemned, detested, but it is
what we live with everyday. It has
entered into our bone marrows. The
young people think it is a way of life.
The leaders induce people to get to
power in preparation for looting the
treasuries. Parents assist their children
to cheat in examinations and bribe
lecturers to pass their children.
Politicians rig elections and bribe
electorates with rice and beans.
Corruption is what we talk about daily
but is what we live to tolerate and pass
on to our children. It is what we
complained about but practice as soon
as we have the opportunity. How can
you describe a leader that stole 200
billion dollars? What does he need that
huge money for? Stealing is very
convenient for political office holders
because they were helped by the people.
We live with corruption and dine with
corruption. We noticed the impact and
incidence of corruption and know the
negative aspect of it on our nation but
do it positively. We don’t only tolerate it,
we hail it, see our leaders who stole and
took the stolen money to Western world.
We see the looters displaying their loots,
buy properties, latest brand of cars, jets
yet we are helpless. What will you call
the allocation of our oil blocks to
individuals? What will you call the
allocation of billions of Naira as security
votes to the President and Governors
without checks and balances? Why the
huge allocation of money and resources
to legislators for infrastructural
development? What is their business in
that area? Corruption has made our best
talents and best hands left for greener
pastures, developing other nations.
When we are not part of the government
we complain of corruption but once we
are there, we celebrate ad entertain it.
What will you call a leader that builds
billion Naira of private library, built the
best university while in office? What of
those that uses their position to acquire
houses, lands, in Abuja, Lagos,
Portharcourt, Kaduna and other prime
places? What do you call a leader who
allocated oil wells to her wife’s hair
dresser and tailor now the richest
woman in the world? How about thugs
being celebrated, allocated oil blocks
and put in charge of security? Do you
not think something is wrong with us as
individuals, states and nation?
Corruption is a cancer that has taken
over our nation.

Politics › An Open Letter By Amzee To Patience Jonathan On Rejection Of CHANGE by amzee(op): 9:14am On Mar 07, 2015
DEAR PATIENCE JONATHAN,

How is everything going for you
and the rest of the crowd in Aso
rock?

How are the Goats eating
Yam in our National Barn?,I
hope none has died of over
feeding or constipation?
I write this Letter in response to
your statement,

''WE ARE NOT
CONDUCTOR SO WE DON'T ASK
FOR CHANGE''

I just want to tell you that in the
real sense of it,Bus conductors
do not ask for CHANGE. It's
usually the passenger who ask
for CHANGE.
Your Husband, Goodluck
Jonathan was chosen as the
driver to convey Nigerians to
their destination;
Pdp was
appointed the conductor; and
the Nigeria Masses were and are still the passengers. As passenger, we had paid our
Bus fares in 2011 using the vote
currency and now,we are
demanding for our CHANGE.

Usually, Bus conductors do not
agree to give the passenger
their CHANGE easily (atleast not
without fight or exchange of
words).

Like the Bus conductors we
know,Pdp doesn't intend to give
us the CHANGE that is due to us
even when they know this is the
right thing to do.

But we the Nigerians masses
(who lives without
amenities;who are
unemployed;who do not feel
secure at home and in public
place;who have been designated as target for
shooting practice etc) have
decieded to get our CHANGE
from the conductor (pdp and
cabal). I wonder why you are against
CHANGE because even you are
changing so many things; you
Changed UMBRELLA to
UMBLERRA, you changed
PRINCIPAL to PLINSPAR, you changed PRESIDENT to
PLESDENT. This is why even you ought to
vote for CHANGE.

Thanks for gathering your
things as you prepare to quit
ASO ROCK back to OTUOKE or
OKIRIKA, the choice is yours.

Yours sincerely, PASSENGER, 2015.
