I will just go straight to the point.

Had my goods listed on Jiji for bed sheets and adult toys. Got a call this morning, and the man said they would be interested in getting bed sheets for their serviced apartments.

We agreed on us meeting and inspecting on the sheets and duvets. After some seconds, he said he has a problem and will need my help.

He told me that they usually get chrome additives (German type) to protect pipes and other stuffs from corroding. And the owner (Alhaji Usman Galadima) is suspecting him of adding price. So he needs a middleman to call the Alhaji and give him the price. He said he normally realize 45,000 (selling price was 145,000 and the price he gets from Alhaji is 185,000). He said after deducting transportation cost and other expenses, we will share the remaining equally.

On hearing that, I was as alert as a soldier deployed to Sambisa forest. I was so happy, calculating at least 700k to 1 million. Was thanking my God for the opportunity already.

After some minutes, I got a text message of the supplier in Lagos. I called him, we spoke about the additive. He said the final price was 150k per gallon. (earlier the man told me they would be needing 50 gallons). I tried negotiating to 145k but he refused.

Ended the call, called the man (Mr. Mike 09017554303) back. Told him the new price. He said he would send the Alhaji's number to me so I can negotiate with him. He said I should tell him 200k per gallon because he would still negotiate. And I should peg the price at 195k.

Called the Alhaji Usman (09046851839) and he agreed to pay 195k per gallon plus he would get 16 bed sheets and duvet from me (I was grinning from side to side oo). But he said he would need a sample to confirm the originality of the product.

I ended the call and call Mr Mike back. He said I should discuss with Mr. Festus (the seller) that he should give me 1 gallon. He said I should tell him Alhaji Abubakar Attah (the seller's long term customer who happened to be sick and in the USA) is the owner. I called the seller and I told him as Mr. Mike explained. He said I would get the sample in my address in Ibadan. But I'll still have to drop some amount. At this point I know they are scammers. Just decided to play along.

I asked the seller what the amount would be but he refused calling a specific amount. I told him I didn't have any money on me. So he hanged up.

Still catching more cruise, I decided to call Mr Mike. I explained all to him. He said I should find him about 20k.

That was when I rained heavy curses on his generation. grin grin

So guys, be careful out there. Scammers are on the lose, looking for different means to scam innocent, hard-working citizens. Wear your thinking cap all the time. If a deal is too good to be true, maybe it is a fraud.

Numbers

Mr Mike: 09017554303
Mr Festus: 07080367674, 08090684988

He has not had it for long, i remember bidding on that name on Godaddy Auction some months back and it later went for a $100 plus or so
From my research then, the domain had good quality back links and was previously a developed site owned by a company with annual revenue of over $14m plus.

So its possible it was purchase by the previous owner or some related company interested in the back links.

If anyone decides to go and knack 4k on an ordinary geo domain with no meaningful back links, You may be waiting for a while.

My point exactly. You can't just price a domain name anyhow. If I buy a domain name for 100 box, I can't sell for nothing less than 2k. If the domain, like you rightly pointed out, should have good, quality backlinks, that's a big plus.

Our pricing is based on our perceived value of the name. I, mostly, reg for max $9. Selling for 250 plus is good business. Selling for 5k is, well, lucky

This is a special sale bro. Not because of the price but because of the perceived value of the domain that sold for such amount.

How many domainers (even the veterans) will valuate that domain at that amount before it sold? Of course it is true that if you don't ask for it you won't get it, but that doesn't mean end-users will throw cash at you because you feel your domain is worth it.

$4.9k for the sale of an 18-letter three word geo domain name doesn't happen every Sunday.
Now you get the point.

You missed the point about what the guy mean by nothing special. Would the end user have bought the domain at that price if the owner hadn't priced it @$4,888? Reread his statement very well.

I got his point. My question is, how many of us can price a domain name we know quit well isn't really worth much? For him to make that sale can be:

1. He has had it for a long time and not ready to drop it
2. Simply timing. The end user walking on him at the right time.

What we domainers don't know is when a name will sell. Like I said, if we know, we would have priced our names a little higher.

When I sold explant surgery for 2100, I felt that remorse. Said to myself, "you could have sold it a little higher."

Buyers also have cold feet. "what if I price higher and I lose the client?" "Will I get another person to buy from me?"

For me, I don't renew most of my domain names. I consider myself a flipper. So with that name, my max would be $599...with an option to receive offers.

Why am I saying this? That's just, in my conclusion, a case of timing or a case of a stubborn owner who has refused to let go of the name.

Nothing special. He priced the domain at $4,888 mainly because he knew the true value of the name but if you were the owner of that domain, you would most probably price it at maybe $200. So, the end user can't buy it from you at his own price of $4,888 when what he/she is seeing from your outbound is $200.

Yes it is special. Jaw dropping sef. Research very well. "funeral home" and "funeral homes" are not domain names that sell for high price.

This one is a big exception, and warrant the big surprise.

Yea...true.
But are you trying to say because it's SH owned, that's why it was accepted and seen by the buyer or is there a separate place they keep names registered and owned by them?
And when I said the commission is small I didn't base it on exchange rate rather on the SP noting that they've not even incurred any renewal cost. And I know I'm not the only one that has pointed this out here.
100k small for this present economy? I never get money reach that level grin
Good morning and have a blessed week ahead.

If we all know the names that will sell, we all will be millionaires in dollars.

I'm this game, we all know that cash is important. Unfortunately, we all don't have the cash required to go on buying spree. He got paid $399 for his suggestions (and with no financial commitment). That's a huge plus.

After all, many of us sell domain names for way lower than that

People who use Dingtone numbers here I would like to know if you also get random calls.

I have only used the number to call one person (ended in a sale about a week later).

But I also notice that random numbers frequently call the number - mostly see missed call notifications. I have only picked one of these calls (seems a robocall).

Now, I am considering adding this number to outbound emails, but these unsolicited calls could make it hard telling what calls are relevant.

Yes. I get loads of unsolicited calls. What do I do? Once I picked and it isn't an enduser, I disconnect immediately. Most calls are for donations, or some are from prospects trying to sell to you (real estates and the likes).

If it is the latter, I carefully explain to them about my email content and they often say "we will relay your message to our marketing department."

So, I'll advise you to pick all calls. You never can tell if the one calling is a prospect...or another time waster

This might help someone:

% of where I sourced my emails from 2500 company domain names

Facebook - 44%
On Website (Homepage) - 31%
On Contact Us Page and Contact Form - 22%
Hunter.io - 3%

Hunter is always the last resort since they only give 50 searches per month

So, from my findings, Facebook still offers the best platform to pick a company's email address...followed by the website

Three simple ways to quickly get an enduser's email

1. visit the site and press CTRL + F. Then imput @ . If there is an email in the site...or emails...you'll quickly locate it (them)

2. If you can't find any email, locate any facebook logo and visit it. You should be able to see one email. if you still can't find any,

3. Register on hunter dot io or snov dot io to get your email ( I find hunter so helpful if
a. The website restricts my IP
b. Didn't load on time
c. Or doesn't have a contact form

4. Use the website's contact form. If you get a reply, copy the email and add it to your list (note, don't copy a noreply@.... email)

I hope you learnt something from my writeup

cyriletifit:

Hi guys,
This post is a quick tip on how to pick and research GEOs. My bosses can also add theirs too.

Picking names from ED:

Right from when I first stumbled on this thread, I have been keeping records of all the reported sales.
Now take note of all the keywords that have been selling e.g web, floor, lawyer, dentist, roof, rental, limo, service, etc. Head over to ED, under "contains" insert your keywords (maximum 30 keywords). Other filters are common to us all.

Researching names:

This has not been easy for any serious domainer. This is my own little trick.
Firstly, since I keep record of people's sales, I am kind of familiar with keywords that can sale.

1. Copy a name you feel is nice. Say, garagedoorrepairkaty/com do a Google search in this format, garage door repair katy.com
Now ur goals are to check how many end-users or companies are running this business. Are they using any of the keywords in their domain or website tittle? How many are using low quality domains like, hyphenated names, longer names, numerical names, lower extensions etc.
Please do a Google search with this domain I sold for $799, garagedoorrepairkaty/com

2. You can also do a Bing/com search or Google map search (map.Google.Com) if you are not satisfied with (1).

3. Try web.archive.org to see what the domain was previously used for. That is, If a genuine business was running with the name.

4. I do use hosterstats.com to know how the domain has been moving from 1 hand to another. How old it it. Whether it was listed for sale before or if this is the first time it's dropping.

Now keep this in mind with GEOs.
1. You need more names to keep the sales flowing.
2. Always outbound and do multiple follow up.
3. Try to buy what I call "must have names" for end-users e.g garagedoorrepairkaty/com These are names that can,
I. Add value to an existing business.
II. They can upgrade immediately to.

4. Buy names with many competitions. Not the competition on ED, the one you noticed while doing your Google search. You will notice end-users are fighting for your keywords, as a result some use bad names. Also almost all the first 5 pages of Google have listed the business according to your keywords in that location.

5. I don't really look at search volume, competition and cpc on ED. I am always after, "how many end-users are there".

6. While doing the Google search, you will notice which keywords is commonly used. E.g between "dog training", "dog walking" "dog Grooming" "dog sitting" etc. Try to go for the one that is commonly used in that location of your domain.

7. Though you are bound to register bad names sometimes, but keep practicing even if you don't have money to buy. Just watchlist them for experiment.
There are exceptions to most of what I wrote in this post. You know some domain sales are just mind blowing.

Sorry for the long write up and errors, I dey write as the month dey sweet me. I know am not alone. Please, you can also tell me where I need to improve on too. Thanks.

If you wish to quote this post, please shorten it.
