I invited her to the party. She refused my invite, I gave her another invite to a program organised by my church still, she turned down again. I know you want to ask the question, who is this “she”? calm down friend, just guess….yes you guess right. She is my new girlfriend that we just started dating. She has this natural beauty with a charming shape like that of a beautiful Hollywood diva. Sorry not to tell you her name earlier, she is Deborah.

Back to my story, I was furious for turning down my request. I had to politely invite her again but this time for a date in a park to have a heart to heart discussion with her reasons for not responding. Behold! She defaulted again, after waiting alone in the park for three hours without her showing up nor called and her phone was switched off when I tried to pull a call through. “ It was like a rain drop flowing from my eyes as tears” but no one to share my pain with in the park and stylishly left the park to my place.
Series of thoughts kept coming into my mind: why does she keep turning down my invite , is it that I am too ugly to be with in a public gathering or she is shy of standing close to a man in a public or she just wants to be decent and so on. I couldn’t stop the thought from coming in and my eyes were wide open all through the night with a brain filled with loads of thought.

Since I couldn’t sleep the previous night till dawn, I jumped out of my bed as early as 6am and went straight to her home. To my greatest surprise she was the only one at home, her parents and siblings left for a wedding ceremony. I knocked and she opened and let me in.
Shockingly, she hugged me closely, and continually repeating how much she missed me. I was amazed, because all that I bored in mind was seeing one that won’t want to see me physically again. Maybe I am becoming irritated with her, I thought.

‘The honeymoon is over’ my statement to her, the big question “why have you been turning my invites down for days?” Gushed out of me like water that has been pressurized for days waiting to be relieved. She told me to sit down, and commenced. She said she has been depressed for years, she doesn’t go out, not that she doesn’t wish, in fact she really loves to be with people which she was while growing up as a kid. “Suicide taught has been coming into her mind these days” continued Deborah, I was amazed and eager to hear the wizard of the first order giving her such devilish idea. I asked, why? She said why does she have this bad look? Why was she always feeling inferior to others in public places? Why isn’t that no form of make up products brings out that beauty in her like other? I smiled, and at the same time my hands were akimbo with faces apparently overwhelmed with shock.

Abroad people call me every weekend asking me to send money (not bragging). Many of them are frustrated over there. They work long hours including overtime but the government takes federal, state, city, social security, medicare, medicaid and disability taxes. On top of that, when they buy biscuit, they will still take sales tax. They pay exorbitant rent; those who "own" homes are locked in a loan repayment for 30yrs of which they still have to pay annual taxes for their house. Phone bill can cost over $60 per line, cable $120, internet $80 and they still pay tax on top of it. Burger and chips with soft drink can easily cost you $16 plus tax.

Sure some folks are making over $100,000 theoretically especially healthcare workers in expensive states like California and new York, but by the time they deduct all those taxes from their check, they are left with just $40,000. Then they still have to pay more taxes on every thing they buy. That's not life. It's like a rat wheel, oscillating but not making any progress. I have a cousin who was in the same situation in America, after 10yrs working as a social worker, he returned home and we started up a business. He still regrets all the years he spent slaving away in America. Today, he travels the world on vacation and visiting places he didn't even have time to visit when he was living abroad. It's not too late for Nigerians living abroad to return home; you can make it big here with less stress and you will extend your life span.

A lot of sense boss, I reason it this way one day that we have 250million Nigeria population of 5% of Nigeria population which 75,000people can patronize my product and I will b making upto 2000 per sale then I am made. Since then travelling out of this country is never my thing again. Our population is our strength and wealth we can make it here in naija by just ignoring those politicians and do ur own tin in ur own way. Shikina!

I could be happy now but the next minute, she changes mood all of a sudden. We dated for over year after someone match make us but this mood swing things continued overtime so sometimes I get confused even as i really tried managing the pressure. She's a nice girl, takes good care of me, buys clothes, cooks, always wants me to look good but the problem is the rate which she switches mood easily.

Financially, we are both average earner but I think she earns better pay than me.

For instance, recently we got a new apartment - 2bedroom flat but whenever I say something she doesn't like or she doesn't want to hear, she just reacts like why would I say such a thing. All the while we were dating, we never stayed with each other as we stayed in our parents house. Fast forward* most times, as the man, after switching mood, I try to pacify her by petting and apologising but she doesn't just want to listen.

Just today, we were playing with each other on the bed, touching each other (not sensitive part) and she wanted me to kiss her. So I told her jokingly that "but you know this is not biblical" as an advocate of no sex until after marriage. I have never had sex with her either. The next thing she said, "why are you talking like this" she stood up, went straight to the sitting room and slept there. I went to meet her there to pacify her again but she wouldn't listen.

Please note that I have not and can never beat or abuse her cos I'm a Christian.

I'm just tired. She's really getting on my nerves. Our wedding is 3 weeks time but I dont just know what to do. People, friends and family are already aware of the impending marriage but I'm afraid that if a lady can switch mood like this, who knows what will happen tommorrow. I cant sleep in peace...

I was once in ur shoe during dating but I change my pattern. If she change mood I change mood also. Infact I shout out to cause quarrel then we settled. I warn her if she ever switched mood again then forget I will leave her alone. Guess what, she changed for good. Infact she doesn’t want to see herself in that mood again because she knows I don’t tk it likely. Oga never pet a woman u want to marry, bring ur real man out if she wish to go with d marriage she will succum to ur demand and change for good. I hate petting rather I prefer realness.
