It is a welcome development

ubunja:
yes, it was hinted at a few years ago. But they're doing it for cultural reasons (at least that's how they got it to happen), they're saying SA has a lot of immigrants and its becoming a problem raising kids whose ancestral roots are unknown who become problem kids because they're never introduced to their ancestors, hence the sorry state of the kids so it's vital every kid be known whose blood it is in him - Something along those lines. It's not compulsory though and it's definitely not being shouted from the roof tops.

Business › Re: Dangote Refinery: Roaring To Life On The Lagos Blue Sky by angelfallz(m): 10:20am On Jan 26, 2022
Thank you for your explanation.

aribisala0:
Clearly you have no knowledge of how the industry works
Crude oil is often sold on contracts. Sometimes called forward contracts up to 12 months or longer .
Sometimes prices crash but a refiner could be locked in to a contract at old prices. So depending on how Dangote runs his business he may benefit from non Nigerian oil
The oil n Nigeria belongs to companies just like Dangote is another company. Companies negotiate to sell oil and are at liberty to make deals with whom they please so Dangote does not have first refusal on Nigeria oil.
Yo u do not just turn up in the market tomorrow and take oil home the next day
If his facility has to shut down for 6 months for any reason what would the oil selling companies be doing. They would need guarantees or indemnity. Once you bring the oil out of the ground it costs money to store it every single day. So a refinery shut down is a risk the upstream sector don't want to share
You seem to think it is the government selling oil. No it is companies like Shell Mobil etc in collaboration with NNPC
do not forget that these businesses are potentially rivals of Dangote in the refining business
Some have their own refineries in other countries and potentially could make more money elsewhere
Also Dangote may be able to get cheaper oil than the Nigeria oil from time to time such deals happen.

Made up my mind? how do you mean?

The first bolded,
Yes there are scenarios where Dangote would have to import crude. That is not what I am saying. What I am saying is, why would the importation of crude be a priority to him when there is already crude in Nigeria, which is closer and eliminates the need to transport it and driving down cost?

The second bolded,
That is true. But in the case of Nigeria I can't think of why Dangote would need to buy crude from other countries. Unless if you want to mention Niger Delta problems.

aribisala0:
I wonder whether you have already made up your mind
You say 2000km
Whether it be the crude or it be the refined products traveling to market that 2000km would have to be travelled .It then comes down to ANALYSIS of DATA. to make the OPTIMAL BUSINESS CHOICE That is the responsibility of Dangote. It is his busines
Sounds counter productive does not make it so
There are so many reasons and scenaros why this can happen. It is important to make a distinction between Dangote's business and Nigeria they are not the same thing .Those blind spots lead to inaccurate thinking
Depending on geography and Logistics it may make sense for the same country to sell and buy crude

This is not a theoretical speculation.
Is it happening anywhere? YES The USA is a very good example . So let us not rely on gut feelings or how things "sound" but base our conclusions on fact an figures based analysis
Business › Re: Dangote Refinery: Roaring To Life On The Lagos Blue Sky by angelfallz(m): 9:52am On Jan 26, 2022
You are correct.

But Nigeria would always give him a better deal, and it would always be cheaper than importing the crude.

Ayomi90:
Dangote doesn't own Nigeria oil, he needs to buy it from Nigeria ND if Nigeria doesn't come with a suitable deal it's best to buy elsewhere, this is business.
Politics › Re: Afenifere Plans Political Party, Insists On State Police, Constitution Review by angelfallz(m): 9:33am On Jan 26, 2022
Unfortunately, they can't talk about only the Yoruba options, because Nigeria is still practicing a unitary system of government which does not allow for it.

We need to restructure Nigeria so that the various federating units that make up Nigeria; the Yorubas, the Hausas, Ijaws, Igbos, Tivs etc can have autonomy over themselves and their resources. Then and only then can they now talk about Yoruba/Ijaw/Ibibio options.

Baawahala:
All these ethnic leanings on a National discourse.
Why not form Oduduwa and talk about only the Yoruba options...
You guys laid the foundation of tribalism in this country.

When Dangote started thinking of building his refinery, over 10 years ago I believe, there was nothing like IPOB then or sit at home or Nnamdi Kanu.

So, it is obvious that neither IPOB nor sit at home nor Nnamdi Kanu are the reasons why Dangote sited his refinery in Lagos.

OmoEpe:
You think any normal human being will site any serious thing in a region that will tell it's staff to sit at home 3 days a week? Or destroy their equipment every time it wants to get at Buhari?

That is the damage the SE has done to itself. It will take decades for it to attract meaningful investment

Cownu has done incalculable damage to the SE but the Mpumiri those boys are consuming has robbed them of sense.

SE will remain a desolate land and a biz wilderness for a long time to come all thanks to the evil IPOB and Baboon Cownu

Why import something that you already have?

The cost of buying it and then importing it, would be passed on to the consumers, that is you and I.

Ayomi90:
He doesn't even need oil from Lagos or any oil producing state in Nigeria, he can always import it ND get his business going. We love him, we Yorubas appreciate him.
Business › Re: Dangote Refinery: Roaring To Life On The Lagos Blue Sky by angelfallz(m): 9:07am On Jan 26, 2022
2000km away from Lagos? That is really far.

Would it not be more expensive to transport the crude? And buying crude from another country when Nigeria has its own crude, sounds counter productive, don't you think?

We may never the true reasons why Dangote chose Lagos state to site his refinery.

CUMIN:
Refinery can be sited anywhere. Those locations in the SS he intended the governors were very greedy. They want shares without paid up capital.

He proposed to the then Ondo governor same thing happened.

When he approached Lagos government they inclined to his demand.

One thing you need to know is that this particular refinery doesn't only refine the light sweet crude we have in Nigeria.

He had factored the greedy nature of the niger-delta that is why this project was designed to refine heavy crude oil from other part of Africa like Angola which is less than 2000km from Lagos.

Kudos to Alhaji dangote the black yansh billionaire.
Kudos to Lagos state government.
Business › Re: Dangote Refinery: Roaring To Life On The Lagos Blue Sky by angelfallz(m):
I wonder why he sited his refinery in Lagos. Maybe it is about politics, who knows.

Anyway, hopefully the refinery would benefit all of Nigeria

JavaScript90:
Great. But this project should be sited at a major oil producing state like Imo state with the likes of shell anoh gas project not at Lagos. He should source for his oil from the 30 liters of oil Lagos produce. SMH for NIGERIA

I don't think so. Is it our civilian men that have sense?
At least the military built refineries that were working, but the civilian leaders destroyed the refineries so that they could be importing fuel and enriching themselves.
The military sold lands to the citizens(my father bought land from the military government) the civilians sold lands to themselves. Same thing happened with NEPA, the civilian leaders sold NEPA to themselves.

Personally, I am not afraid of military rule, Buhari has finished us already, what is the worst thing the military would do to us?

Deicide:
Coup would be the worst thing to happen in Nigeria, cause our military men no get sense.
Politics › Re: Burkina Faso: Nigeria Strongly Condemns Coup, Demands Return Of Civil Rule by angelfallz(m): 9:37am On Jan 25, 2022
Well said
I have always felt that democracy, as practiced by Africans does not suit us. African countries are too heterogenous(made up of different tribes) for the kind of democracy we are practicing. The west can practice this form of democracy because they are homogenous(essentially one tribe, no different culture or language)

HolarQD:
Looking at the Nigerian situation, one wonders why, after so many years of negligent leadership in the name of democracy, there has been no courageous move by the Nigerian army to rescue the nation. But then, when one considered, albeit carefully, the cause of the rot in Nigerian leadership system, then one accept that the Nigerian Army leadership system is more ineffective and corrupt than their democratic counterparts. This reality, confirms that the Nigerian people seemed to be doomed in all fronts, because there’s apparently lack of hope or succor coming from anywhere.

This situation in Burkina Faso, is virtually obtainable in most African countries because like that of Nigeria, all systems of leadership is ineffective and senselessly corrupt. To move forward, there’s need for Africans to create a form of government away from military autocratic and democratic systems. Evidence has shown that these two systems has contributed little or nothing to the development of most African countries.

Africans need to understand that the emotional and mental capacity, socio-economic characteristics, cultural and moral ideology, religiosity and spirituality plays major roles in choosing a leadership system that works for a group of people.

Democracy, same as military autocracy has not and can not work to develop any African country to the extent where Africa will be respected all over the world. Researchers should do more to create an hybrid kind of system that would be effective in leadership administration of the African people.

You said some thought provoking things.
I tried to put myself in the shoes of the old members that were denied some things, I would feel bad because I know I lost a lot of things and missed out on a lot of things and opportunities due to the church's teachings which are now being changed. I might even be bitter about the changes.

This guy's have suffered alot, and this protest probably comes from a place of pain.
They were made not to watch television for a long time
They were made to avoid flashy cloths and things for a long time
Watching movies was out of bounds, except maybe mountzoin movies
Playing jazz, rock and dance music was forbidden
They could not attend other people's churches for music concerts, relationship talks, youth hang outs etc
Only for the Church to change direction 360 degrees, and introduce the same things they denied members for years, and for the Pastor to dine and commune with those he stopped his members from interacting with years ago.

This will be heart breaking for many, especially the old ones who have wasted years living in false modesty, and are now too old and too out of touch to reinvent themselves.

The lesson will be to follow God and not the way of man. As God is the only force that will never change.
