Interesting she is Hausa?

phemmylink:
Mine is such an unfortunate scenerio, I remember a particular night when I was courting my wife, the picture is still very much clear in my memory. I went to visit and it was getting late for me to leave, she suggested I sleep over at her dad's, I refused coz I had work to do when I get home.
While we were on our way to the bus stop to pick a cab, at the tail end of the junction we noticed some group of people shouting thief, and some dudes running after another, as a sharp Yoruba boy in Jtown were Hausa was the common language, I told her and her brother that we should let em chase whoever it is they are chasing and let's just go about our business ones they run past us.

Before I could say John Thomas, her brother took off after them, and those Hausa dudes left the main thief and took off after him, my dear the whole thing tired to a Roya rumble, my wife to be also took off after the idiot boy calling his name to stop running, my brother, I had to follow suit as a good brother in law to be, the boy was running as if some demons where pursuing him, he kept on running and we kept running after him till they lost hope because they couldn't catch up with Hussein Bolt. When they noticed they couldn't get him, they decended on me, I was the only foreigner in their angwa, it wasn't a joke, they started speaking profusely in Hausa language, I didn't understand what they were says and before I knew what's up, clubs and sticks descended on me, they said I muddled in between them that I was actually the thief and my brother in-law was my accomplice.

I received the beating of my life that day. But all through this beatings, this girl didn't leave my side, she was taking the blows for me all through before they discovered her brother in-law hiding in the poultry and due to the rukus cause by the chase her mom came to our aid and because it was night they later discovered they were residents in the area, but before that time, they have beating me wella, I can't forget this day, these amongst many reasons is why I married my wife. We later discovered that the thief was one of those boys in the area, he ran into the area to hide and his friends used me as cover up for his acts.

She took some blows for me, shielded me and made sure those dudes know I was not a thief even though I didn't hear anything they were saying... It's a day to remember for me, and any time she does something nasty to me now, i make myself remember this day before I act or do something irrational.

What multi kini?!!

China is an atheist nation. Sure there are Christians, Muslims, Buddhists etc. But generally, the Chinese are atheists and the Chinese don't take religion seriously.
Also the ethnicity of the Chinese is not the same as Nigerians.

I am surprised you are trying to compare Nigeria with China in terms of our multiculturalism. India is the country that you can rightly compare to Nigeria in terms of multiculturalism and not China.

Also, China used to be ruled by Emperors(monarchy) which means China has always had a central govt. China is one of the oldest countries in the world, China is more than 4,000 years old, they have had enough time to blend together as a nation.

The 1st bolded,
I hope I did not give you the impression that it is because a Fulani/Igbo/Yoruba man is in power that is why things are bad. That was not my intention. What i was trying to explain is that the system allows one man from one tribe to have absolute control over all other tribes. That one man comes with his own way of thinking usually it is how his tribe thinks, which would sometimes be in conflict with other tribes.

What one tribe wants, might not be what another tribe wants. How one tribe wants to solve a problem, might not be how another tribe wants to solve the problem.

The 2nd bolded,
I agree with you that we need a political system that is indigenous to us. That is basically what I have been saying, when I say things like, Nigeria has to change its system of govt to a system that suits us and takes into account our heterogenous nature. We are basically saying the same thing smiley

In the restructured Nigeria that I am advocating for, the different tribes would decide for themselves what form of govt they wish to use to govern themselves.

pansophist:
China is far more multi ethnic, multi cultural, multi religious and multi everything than Nigeria, with over x7 of the Nigerian population, and still, it has a central government. Nigeria is dysfunctional because of leadership, not because a Fulani/Igbo/Yoruba man is on power. If it is about tribe, then how would you explain equally single ethnic African countries that are even worse off than Nigeria economically? It's about leadership.

So far, my point stands. Before we must move forward as a country, we have to look within ourselves and go back to the basics, and to a political system that is indigenous and will work us, and democracy is not it. By a long stretch. Even the so called democratical countries are not democratic de facto. America catapulting its democracy to far flung region of the world is structural a corpotocratic country lol.

I agree that it's possible for corruption to be shifted down to federating units. But in Nigeria for example would it not be much easier to fight corruption at the federating units because tribalism and religion would have been removed?

In the federating structure which I'm advocating, all the ethnic groups that make up Nigeria would have sovereignty over it's land and peoples.

Take the Igbos for example. It would be easy to persecute corrupt leaders because they can't hide under tribe or religion.

In the federating structure that I'm advocating, the federating units don't rely on other federating units.

So if the northern leaders refuse to develop their own federating units their failure can't be passed to other federating units.

Unitary system has its advantages. But in the case of Nigeria it can't work. Why? Because Nigeria is a heterogeneous country, with different ethnic groups, different religions, different ways of thinking, different languages.

See Buhari a Fulani man for example. In the Fulani way of thinking, cows are as important as human beings. Now we have a Fulani president now imposing that way of thinking on the rest of the ethnic groups. He is fighting for his own tribe. Naturally there would be resistance.

I have always stated that Nigeria needs to find a system of governance that is suitable to a heterogeneous country like ours.

Over the years it has been clear the unitary system is not working.

It's time to allow each tribe that make up Nigeria to have sovereignty over it's land and peoples.

The federating units that develops its people would enjoy it, the federating units that refuse to develop its people would suffer for it.

In fact I believe it would be difficult for corruption and underdevelopment to happen in a restructured Nigeria, because the govt is closer to the people and the people would be watching the govt very closely.

Imagine if the ijaw people had power over their oil, do you think the level of poverty in Ijaw land would be as it is? They would have probably chased away any of their leaders that would want to try nonsense.

Imagine if the Tiv and Idoma people have power over their security, do you think Fulani herdsmen would turn Benue State into a killing field?

pansophist:
An unpopular opinion that I have. I believe that the current unitary system is a good system to change Nigeria for the better, before it would be restructuring. I'll explain.

The problem associated with confederation (restructuring) is that the corruption is shifted down to each structure (eg The North might ended up being plagued with poverty, while effectively becoming a burden to the other structures in the south). With a unitary system that have a strong central government, this problem will hardly exist and even if it does, the central government have the power to reach every square each of its territory to deal with corruption. Also to harness the potential of the country in the masterplan.

Take russia for example, as huge as that country is, it is only the Moscow Oblast and the North Western District (Saint petersburg) that is well developed, while other regions are left to rot. Even though Putin is the president, his power is limited, and true power rest in the hands of the President of each oblast.

So in a nutshell, a restructure federating unit is effective when all regions are well-developed, but for an underdeveloped,  multi-ethnic, multi-religious country like Nigeria, a strong central government will do, but only if it truly have the interest of the people like the Chinese. What do you think ?

What a horrible lecturer!

PrimadonnaO:
A lecturer started trying to intimidate me in 100 level... Threatening that if I don't sleep with him, I'll be in his "black book.".

Well, he didn't know me, then. Maybe he thought I was an olodo. We hadn't even written first semester exam when oga started his intimidation tactics.

Initially, I was a bit worried, but my boyfriend then was an oldie in the school, and reassured me it was mere intimidation, and I only needed to ignore him, and show him I was a smart student.

Oh well, I did that. In courses I was meant to get As in, the wicked man just kept giving me Cs. He knew he couldn't give a D or an E... I'd have recalled the scripts.

I just avoided his elective courses until final year when he took a compulsory course. Another C. Lol.

And then the devil wanted to make him my Project Supervisor.

No jokes, I went into 21 days prayer and fasting... God being faithful, I was miraculously reassigned to another supervisor.

The man started calling me " church girl" and trying to shine teeth with me. Mtchewww.

Anyway, that's how I graduated untouched.

Lecturer that had a reputation of raping students in the office... And the authorities don't come for him.

When I was in 300level, this particular course Lecturer was disturbing me. Oga failed me oh cheesy.
I went to his office with my Aunty who's also a Lecturer to plead with him, all fell on deaf ears. When we were even leaving the office, my Aunty said,"Who are the people sleeping with this ugly thing sefhuh?".
To be honest, that man was ugly as hell.
I was really depressed that period, cos despite him failing me, he'd call me at odd hours, it was frustrating.
My family put up prayers ontop my head and I also was praying, wrote the exam again in 400level, and I had a B; he failed my friends AGAIN.

I even remember a day, when he finished teaching the new 300level students (when I was in 400level), and the class rep brought out 70k sales she made from selling his textbook to the class. She wanted to give him the money, but he told her to give me the money instead. When I went to his office to beg him again to remove the F he had given me, and also give him his 70k, Uncle said, "The 70k is yours, you know what to do". Haaa!
That man is a beast and e nor go better for am for this life.
Foreign Affairs › Re: Vladimir Putin Boasts He Can Hit Enemies With An Unpreventable Strike(pics) by angelfallz(m):
You made good points on the reasons why you would choose Xi Jinping over Vladimir Putin.
But I would like to correct some impressions you might have regarding the 2 of them.

You are right that Xi is a leader and Putin is a ruler.

However, Putin is a ruler out of necessity or you might say because that is how the Russian system works. The Chinese system of government is different from the Russian system of government.

From what I have read on Quora, on the way Russia operates, it looks like Russians prefer a strong man leader(Tsar). A Tsar is like a monarch with supreme authority.

Before Putin, Russia had Boris Nikolayevich Yeltsin, another strong man ruler. It was Yeltsin that brought in Putin. Again, that is how the Russian system works.

Another thing about Russia are the Oligarchs. Who are they? They are the businessmen of the defunct USSR who rapidly accumulated wealth as the USSR was collapsing and privatisation of USSR assets was happening.
They are very powerful. Sorry. EXTREMELY POWERFUL. Putin has been playing a delicate game with the oligarchs. So even though Russia has an abundance natural Putin can't really do as he pleases.
However, even with the constraints Putin has improved Russia. Remember, also that your favourite uncle, Uncle Sam has been imposing serious sanctions on Russia which affects its economy.

The Chinese system is totally different. You are right, Xi had to work from the grassroots up to become the president of China.
However, the choice was between Xi and Bo Xilai. But Bo Xilai had problems that prevented him from being selected to be the president of China.
You actually made a "little technical" mistake in saying that the Chinese people 97% of them support Xi Jingping. Technically, that is not correct. The Chinese people support the CCP(Chinese Communist Party) of which Xi Jinping is the general secretary. In China the CCP is supreme no one is bigger than the party, just ask Jack Ma.
So tomorrow if Xi is no longer president of China and general secretary of the CCP, would the CCP still have a high approval rating? Yes.

Lol. I strongly disagree with you that if Nigeria had someone like Xi Nigeria would be transformed. You see, Xi would fail in the Nigerian system. In the Chinese system Xi has absolute power, he can bring billionaires(see Jack Ma) to their knees if need be. He has control over the lives of all Chinese citizens. The CCP operates with one mind.

In Nigeria with this our current system if it is not tribalism, it is religion, if it is not nepotism it is chop i chop.

This goes to the heart of what I have been shouting about for sometime here. Our current system of governance is not working for us. We need to change it by restructuring and putting power in the hands of the federating units. Even if you bring George Washington, Obama, Abraham Lincoln they would all fail.

The Chinese have a system of government that is working for them, bear in mind that there is no freedom of speech, you can't criticise the CCP, but it works for them.

We Nigeria need to find a system that would work for us.

Democracy na scam(especially in Nigeria and Africa) I am glad that more people are opening their eyes to it

pansophist:
Because Xi is a leader, while Putin is a ruler. Big difference. For president Xi to lead a party that uplifted over 800 million people out of extreme poverty within just 2 decades, that's like x4 the population of Nigeria, is nothing but miraculous. If you also observed his timeline, he was poor himself, and have to work his way up to lead the most populous country on earth. You just have to listen to him speak, to see what true leadership is like. No country in the world has the people supporting their leader with over 97% approval rating. Only in China.

A country that is making America shitting on their pant and makes democracy look like a form of government for criminals (rightly so), Nigeria and India being a good example. Personally I dislike democracy, its a scam. Democracy makes the vote of intellectuals like Soyinka to be equal to the one of an uneducated abokii that is motivated to vote for tribe/religion, especially when most of the population are not intellectuals, making the people easily deceived by demagogues parading as leaders, breeds elite political class that knows no suffering, but that's a story for another day.

For Putin, he is more concern about having the latest weapon system than developing Russia economically. Actually Russians should be the richest people on earth. The amount of wealth buried in Russians soil is uncountable. They will dig and sell for the next 1000 years and they will still be forking rich, but corruption destroyed that country. Siberia alone is so rich, to a point where they haven't even explored the whole territory. Russia is bigger than Nigeria about 18 times, but has less about fifty million less people than Nigeria. Why lots of Russians are poor is beyond me. Its an antithesis.

Of course I'll respect Xi more. He truly cares for his people, and even Africa. How many times have he forgave and restructure loan because African countries couldn't pay? A lot. Has he even fired one single shot to other nations ? No. If Nigeria has a man like Xi, it would transform in just ten years.
