Homeowners should not be debating such issues with their builders (from a position of ignorance) IF the builder is qualified and experience to do so. Engage a professional and trust her/his judgement and interpretation of the structural drawings.

If you are a DIY builder, you are encouraged to seek professional help from a qualified expert(s) for structural issues. You may resort to DIY for painting and decourating stage.

Are you a pretender builder who got stocked at this stage and now seeking help online? It is not advisable to encourage you further as the construction may be unsafe as you don't apparently know how to interprete a structural drawing (if you have one). The answer you seek is in the structural drawing.

Are you a building student/apprentice? Refer to the stuctural drawing and ask for help if you can't interprete the drawings. If there are no structural drawings, you are not being well tutored.
