MRAKBEE: Culture shock is described as the feelings one experiences after leaving their familiar, home culture to live in another cultural or social environment. I served in one of the northern states and was shocked the day I witnessed a young man canned on his bare back to determine if he is ready for marriage or not. Anyway, I eventually appreciated that cultural practice as I know that every tribe is unique in its own way. Nairalanders, what is the biggest culture shock you have had? My biggest shock is that we are one Nigeria |

Tolexander: The OP doesn't seem to know that the soil is a good filter of water going into the aquifer.
Moreover, some of these microorganisms cant survive the condition in the soil. Have you done extensive research that supports this your claim? Every filtration system has its limit and some microorganisms do survive extreme temperature and pressure. The OP is point on on his fact that every city in this country is living dangerously since people fail to understand that environmental sanitation and health can not truely be achieved individually. |

Guyman02: I have an uncle based abroad, he got married here in Nigeria and travelled back abroad to prepare for his wife joining there. Six months later, the lady put to bed and the baby was not born premature. The whole thing raised a lot of suspicion, but elders intervened and told my uncle not to ask too many questions if he wants to keep his sanity but accept the baby as his own since he is already married to her and the child is now a product of the marriage and their grandchild. He accepted the advice and they are still living together with a second baby which is not controversial and he showers the first baby with lots of love without further scrutiny. Igbos have an adage that says 'if you over scrutinize an old womans wrapper that you want to wash, don't complain when you find a small piece of excrement' Rubbish That ur uncle is living under the influence of juju. |

Foreign Affairs › Re: Ayanda Mabulu's Painting Of Mandela & Zuma Having Sex Causes Outrage (Pics) by Angrymode: 2:04pm On Apr 22, 2017 |
weedtheweeds: I do not support any form of sexually exploiting or ridiculing a person. I am glad you got my point. It is the same thing we face here, in Nigeria. When a poor man is killed, the story goes uncovered while people call for reform when a wealthy man gets the same treatment. I do not support this artwork and I have spoken against issues of this sort many times. I bet you, the only reason why people who pretend to be sane and moral condemn this is because of the actual persons involved not that they oppose the creativity itself and that is why I call them hypocrites. If it had been a picture of you and me, it would not have got this number of frowns. I understand your own thought as well, but the best way to handle a case like this is to give it the fair treatment others receive. After all, we were all taught that art is self-expression. I didn't define art, they taught me(us) to accept it that way. Should we redefine it? When You understand how these wealthy people work, you will have a stress-free life. Once again I agree with your points beside one. Should we redefine it? Yes we can redefine anything we want to suit our moral standing. It is always down to a man's moral standing and his freedom to act and I am glad you are open minded to see the artist is wrong. Ah! A picture of you and me it that position? Disgusting!!! It's nice sharing a perpective with you. |

weedtheweeds: I am surprised that the same group of hypocrites who say that art is self-expression would find an art oeuvre distasteful. I do not see it as anything distasteful. Humans have painted images they claim to represent God in very offensive manners but people tend to ignore. Poor citizens have been painted in all manners and no one says anything. Children have been painted nude and Africans have been painted in very horrendous and offensive manners but people tend to ignore. This crazy cherrypicking of special individuals is insane. Mandela is nothing better than the ordinary man in the streets. He is dead and this reverence for a dead man is pure madness. If you let the artist take advantage of the common man and you term it self-expression, then let all artists enjoy their freedom to explore and express their creativity to the fullest. I understand the artist and your views perfectly but imagine that is you painted there. I guess you will applaud the artist right? If the artist must paint private parts and sex positions to tell any sort of story, he should use his because not even his family members will smile about such art about them. Some things are better said with words and pictures left for imaginations. I guess the artist crossed a line but then some people don't even know what a line is about. |

SIRTee15: Please go and read about the prodigal son...... The answer to your non biblical epistle is therein...... I was expecting the Epistle of The Prodigal Son as a reference from whoever that will quote me from a different point of view but note that this epistle is not applicable in this case. The prodigal son only squandered his own inheritance and committed no sin in doing so. However, he was sorry for being a disappointment in not being prudent and was 100% ready for whatever consequences that will come his way for not being prudent. Here, the OP sinned and I am no saint to even pick a stone but if I were in her shoes I will thank the Church for being merciful. Remember that CHRIST went beserk when the house of God was desecrated for other purposes meaning sin should not be condoled in the house of GOD. These days, all manner of sins are tolerated in the house of GOD all in the name of Grace and Mercy and that is why churches no longer radiate righteousness. The OP sinned and should not be pampered to encourage others. |
Christianity Etc › Re: Church Refusing To Have Open Dedication For My Baby by Angrymode: 7:44am On Mar 27, 2017 |
It's a sad situation but I believe the right one. I would like to be in such a Church with such principles becuase it is the right one.
Most persons will be sorry when they are caught doing wrong and expect forgiveness without any form of consequence.
I believe if someone is truely repentant, he/she is also 100% ready to face the consequences of his/her action(s).
Let's paint a picture now: 'you have two kids and about to serve dinner. When you got to the kitchen, you caught one eating meat from the pot so you got angry and decided to punish him. However, the child cried and pleaded for mercy and forgiveness and you did grant him both'. The question now is 'would you still serve this child meat on the dinner table in the presence of the other knowing that the other is also aware?'
What the church is doing is teaching you and others a good lesson and you will accept it if you are truly sorry. |
