There's nothing wrong for the guy to say no immediately. "I just want to spend the time with you alone" is not a bad statement.

I don't invite friends to join me on a date, I have never done it and I won't do it.
As a friend if you invite me I decline immediately too.

Haven't you seen cases where some ladies menstruate even till the 4th month before knowing they are pregnant? Some even go for pregnancy test, both urine and blood, test results always show negative.
