CONSTITUTING SOLEMN ASSEMBLY

Text: Joel 2:15-17
15 Blow the trumpet in Zion, sanctify a fast, call a solemn assembly:

16 Gather the people, sanctify the congregation, assemble the elders, gather the children, and those that suck the breasts: let the bridegroom go forth of his chamber, and the bride out of her closet.

17 Let the priests, the ministers of the LORD, weep between the porch and the altar, and let them say, Spare thy people, O LORD, and give not thine heritage to reproach, that the heathen should rule over them: wherefore should they say among the people, Where is their God?

Introduction
We are sorry for bringing this teaching titled ‘Constituting Solemn Assembly’ so late, in our ‘Preparing for Rapture’ Teaching Series. As a matter of fact, it should have been the first teaching on the series because what is to be discussed in the teaching should form a basis or foundation for which the instructions of the subsequent teachings should be carried out. For those that are following the series, I pray that God gives you the wisdom to incorporate the teaching where it should belong. For those that are just following, you can assume this teaching is the first of the series and place the previous messages after it.

Instructions from Joel 2:15-17
Prophet Joel was a fiery end-time prophet. The book of Joel which contains 3 chapters, all centers on the coming of the Lord, Jesus Christ and the end-time events.

Joel 2:15-17 particularly gives us, believers, instructions on how to prepare for the return of the Lord, Jesus Christ, at rapture. Let us look at some of the instructions.

Joel 2:15-17
15 Blow the trumpet in Zion, sanctify a fast, call a solemn assembly:

16 Gather the people, sanctify the congregation, assemble the elders, gather the children, and those that suck the breasts: let the bridegroom go forth of his chamber, and the bride out of her closet.

The instructions contained in the scripture above are listed below rearranged by me just to put solemn assembly in the first place because it is inside the solemn assembly that every other instruction that follows will be carried out.

-1. Calling or Constituting a Solemn Assembly

-2. Blowing of the Trumpet.

-3. Calling of Fast (fasting)

-4. Weeping (Repentance)

-5. Let Them Say (Prayer). ‘Let them say’ is the prayer while ‘Spare thy people’ O Lord is the prayer point.

What is Solemn Assembly?
An Online dictionary defines the two words that form ‘Solemn Assembly’ as follows;

Assembly is defined as a group of people gathered together in a place for a common purpose.

Solemn means to be sober, serious and not funny, especially because of a bad/serious event that has just happened or about to happen.

If you combined these two definitions, then you will arrive at the definition below.

* A Solemn Assembly is a group of people gathered in a place for a common purpose that is serious, soberly and not funny that has happened or is about to happen.

We can apply the definition as below:

A group of people --- Christians,

Place ---- church, family, under tree, WhatsApp group etc.

common purpose that is serious ---- to prepare for the Lord's return.

Based on the above, and in the context of this teaching, A Solemn Assembly is a group of Christians that together in a church, family home, under the tree, connected through WhatsApp, etc., to prepare for the return of the Lord, Jesus Christ.

Who Should be Part of the Solemn Assembly and modality?
The instruction to constitute a solemn assembly is contained in Joel 2:15 while Joel 2:16 mentions those who should be members of that assembly.

From Joel 2:16, the members of solemn assembly are underlined.

16 Gather the people, sanctify the congregation, assemble the elders, gather the children, and those that suck the breasts: let the bridegroom go forth of his chamber, and the bride out of her closet.

They include

-a. Babies (sucklings)

-b. Children

-c. Newly weds

-d. Elders

-e. Every believer, irrespective of age, that belongs to the church or family that is holding the assembly.

Mode of Operations of the Solemn Assembly
-a. Time must be fixed for the solemn assembly.

A day(s) of the week or a month, and time must be fixed for the assembly.

-b. The conduct of the solemn assembly must be regular.

The solemn assembly must be regular and continued until the purpose of the assembly is eventually achieved.

-c. It must not be for fun-fare.

Solemn Assembly must not be for jokes, entertainment and jamboree. It is a serious gathering. It is a gathering for sober reflection, repentance and prayer.

Purpose and Function of the Assembly
The Solemn Assembly will provide a platform for every other instruction mentioned in Joel 2:15-17 to be carried out. And those instructions include

-a. The trumpet Blowing

-b. Repentance

-c. Sanctifying

-d. Prayers

-e. Fasting

-f. Watching

And so on.

Summary
One of the instructions, and a principal one for that matter, for preparing for the coming of the Lord, Jesus Christ, is the raising a Solemn Assembly. Raising a Solemn Assembly is a very principal instruction because it will provide a platform for members of that assembly to carry out other instructions centering on the coming of the Lord, Jesus Christ.

This Solemn Assembly which is the gathering of believers meeting together in the church, in the family, under a tree, online, for the purpose of preparing for the coming of the Lord, Jesus Christ must be held timely, regularly and soberly. Have you raised a solemn assembly in your church, family, or neighborhood? If not, quickly raise one today and prepare earnestly for the coming of the Lord.

Conclusion
The instruction to raise a solemn assembly is very key to having a very fruitful preparation for the coming of the Lord, Jesus Christ because believers with common purpose of preparing for the coming of the Lord, Jesus Christ, can come together in brotherly fellowship and all the advantages of such fellowship can be harnessed.

Prayers
-1. Lord, help me to raise a solemn assembly for my family

-2. Lord, connect me to children of God that have the same focus of preparing for your return.

-3. Lord, hold my hand tightly and do not permit me to slip out of your hand in these last days in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ.

-4. Lord, perfect my preparation for me in the name of Jesus Christ.

Actions
Are you an elect of Christ? Are you truly saved? Are you on the narrow road?
Do you want to make the rapture/heaven? If your answers are yes, then,
• Make all efforts to heed the warnings of Jesus Christ.

• Be watchful. Pay attention to what is happening around the World and see whether they match what the scriptures say.

• Be filled with the Holy Spirit and be in the Spirit all the time.

• Fast, consecrate yourself, run away from sin and worldliness.

If your answers are NO, then you can repent today. Accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour. Kindly sincerely and faithfully pray the prayer of repentance below and make a determination never to commit sin again.

Prayer Of Repentance
Lord, Jesus Christ, I am sorry for all my sins. I confess them with my mouth and I ask for mercy. Please forgive me and wash me in your blood. I accept you as my personal Lord and Saviour. Write my name in the book of life. Give me power over sins and fill me with your Spirit and Joy of Salvation. When rapture trumpet sounds, let me make it. Thank you for saving me. In Jesus name, I pray.

Begin to read bible. Begin with the book of John. Pray always. Fast regularly (you can begin with once in a week). Look for a bible believing church where they teach repentance, holiness, salvation and fellowship with them. Pray before you go. Always run away from SINS.

BRIEF EXHORTATION:
People of God, I will urge us to meditate on the scripture above. Brothers and sisters, persecution of Christians are very real today.

There are many countries, states, cities and villages that are at war front against Christianity. one of the things we can do with the believers living is such area facing those persecution, is to join our faith with their own, in prayer. Remember, they are our brothers and sisters in Christ. The Lord, Jesus Christ, commanded us to love one another 1 John 4:12.

PRAYER POINTS:
1. Lord, Jesus Christ, we pray for all persecuted Christians in the world, by your mercy stretch forth your hand of intervention unto them.

2. Lord, Jesus Christ, just as you stretch forth your hand of intervention to Paul and Silas in prison, We beseech you to do the same to all your children facing persecution right now in the world.

3. Lord, Jesus Christ, we beseech by your mercy, stretch forth your hand of comfort and peace to the persecuted Christians in the world.

4. Lord, Jesus Christ, we pray for the persecuted Christians in the world, by your mercy, uphold them to remain in you in their trials.

5. Almighty, everlasting God, look with compassion on all your children, who suffer persecution. Grant them grace to carry their cross with patience in the name of The Lord and Saviour Jesus.

6. Gracious God, grant unto all persecuted Christians, your grace that is sufficient to uphold them and strengthen that will make them to be perfect in weakness.

According to an online report, ‘every day, 8 Christians are killed, worldwide, because of their faith. ‘Every week, 182 churches or Christian buildings are attacked’. And every month, 309 Christians are imprisoned unjustly.

Abduction of Christians is a new category tracked in this year’s report, with 1,052 tallied worldwide. Nigeria tops the list, with 224.

Nigeria also leads the newly tracked categories of forced marriages (accounting for 130 out of 630 worldwide), attacked Christian homes (1,500 out of 3,315), and looted Christian shops (1,000 out of 1,979).

Of the top 7 nations where Christians are raped or sexually harassed, 4 are recipients of migrant workers in the Arabian Peninsula: Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, and the United Arab Emirates. Nigeria is eighth. Worldwide there were 8,537 recorded cases, but the report warns this tally is just the tip of the iceberg, as many assaults occur in private and are not reported.

India ranks first in the new category of physical or mental abuse, which includes beatings and death threats. The continuing rise in the subcontinent of a militant Hindu nationalism contributed to 1,445 of the reported 14,645 cases worldwide. China has jailed or detained without charge 1,147 Christians for faith-related reasons, out of a total of 3,711 worldwide. This number rose from 3,150 last year.Where the Most Churches Were Attacked or Closed:
1. (China: 5,576,) 2. (Angola: 2,000,) 3.(Rwanda: 700,) 4. (Myanmar: 204,) 5. (Nigeria: 150,) 6. (Ethiopia:124,) 7.(Burundi: 100,) 8. (Mali: 100,) 9. (Pakistan: 58,) 10. (Burkina Faso: 50).

Brethren, all these things are real and are moving closer to us every day. Let us prepare and brace ourselves for them and be ready for rapture. I pray God will help us.


PRAYER POINTS:
1. Lord, Almighty God, please empower me through your Holy Spirit to remain your good child unto the end of my life, even in the midst of persecution.

2. Dear God, please help me to respond to every situation and trials with godly attitudes in the endtime.

3. I pray, O Lord, endow me with more grace that is sufficient when the going is getting tougher in these last days.

4. O Lord, I pray any spiritual assault, physical assault or mental assault, that Satan is planning against me, in these last days, do not let it stand and deliver me in Jesus name.

5. O Lord, I hide myself and my family under the shadow of the almighty God from every assault and harassment of the kingdom of darkness, in this endtime.

6. Lord, Jesus Christ, My family and I ran into you as our strong tower for protection, from every persecution and attacks from kingdom of darkness in this endtime.

And they cried with a loud voice, saying, How long, O Lord, holy and true, dost thou not judge and avenge our blood on them that dwell on the earth?

And white robes were given unto every one of them; and it was said unto them, that they should rest yet for a little season, until their fellowservants also and their brethren, that should be killed as they were, should be fulfilled.

The scripture above shows that there are believers or Christians or children of God that must be persecuted to death or beheaded for this gospel.

Brethren, have you ever sat down and thought about this scripture and asked yourself, ’why will God allow his children to be killed? Secondly, who are these Christians? Thirdly am I among these that must need to pass through this or have you ever thought about been arrested by terrorist or Islamic jihadist and they pointed gun at you asking you to renounce your faith as christian and live or to hold on to your faith as christian and die?. What do you think you will do?

Beloved, this is the high time to start thinking about these things because persecution or beheading is one of the things trending now in many Africa countries. Nigeria is among the top three countries of the world where it difficult to live as a Christian.

Lastly, people of God let us start to prepare ourselves and families ready for persecution. Let us always say it to our family that whatever be the case we must not deny Jesus even if they want to kill us.

PRAYER POINTS:
1. Lord, Jesus Christ, whatever be the case or situation, help me not to deny your name and your faith in this endtime.

2. O Lord, give me boldness, courage and strength to always choose you as my Lord even at the point of killing.

3. Lord, Jesus Christ, help me to stand in oneness with your spirit and one mind striving for the faith of this gospel in these last days.

4. Lord, Jesus Christ, as you help the apostle Paul to fight the good fight of faith (2 Tim 4:7) help me also in this endtime to fight the good fight of faith and to lay down my sword at your feet and to receive me into your kingdom.

5. Lord, Jesus Christ, whatever persecution I must need to pass through, help me to keep your faith to the end, remain faithful to you to the end and to receive the crown of life from you.

Fear none of those things which thou shalt suffer: behold, the devil shall cast some of you into prison, that ye may be tried; and ye shall have tribulation ten days: be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of life.

6. Lord, Jesus Christ, help me to find peace in the sufficiency of God’s grace in this endtime and even in my weakness.
