United States Congress has passed a bill to ban Americans eating cats and dogs. https://static.standard.co.uk/s3fs-public/thumbnails/image/2018/09/14/16/catsdogs1409.jpg?w968 The US House of Representatives adopted the “Dog and Cat Meat Trade Prohibition Act”, which will see people fined up to $5,000 (£3,800) for slaughtering cats and dogs for human consumption. In a rare show of unity in the House, it was put forward by Republican Vern Buchanan and Democrat Alcee Hastings. https://static.standard.co.uk/s3fs-public/thumbnails/image/2018/09/14/16/catsdogs1409-0.jpg?w660 The practice had still been legal in 44 states. The Animal Welfare Institute said a restaurant was closed several years ago after a worker was caught slaughtering cats chained in the basement to be served as meals. Mr Buchanan said: “Dogs and cats provide love and companionship to millions of people and should not be slaughtered and sold as food.” The congressman added his hope that China and South Korea would follow the US’s example by outlawing, and enforcing existing laws, against the cat and dog meat trade. “The United States should be a leader against this inhumane and unsafe industry,” he said. https://static.standard.co.uk/s3fs-public/thumbnails/image/2018/06/21/16/dogmeatchina2106.jpeg?w1000 A South Korean court ruled the killing of dogs for meat as illegal in June. Meanwhile, the Animals Asia charity estimates that 10 million dogs and 4 million cats are slaughtered for meat in China every year. A Catholic priest from Nnewi, Anambra State, Nigeria, who had been working as a Boston hospital chaplain was arraigned Tuesday September 11, 2018 for the alleged sexual abuse of a young girl in 2006, authorities said. The Rev. Christian Ohazulume, an extern priest from Nigeria, allegedly assaulted the girl while he was living with a family in Randolph upon his arrival in the United States, officials said. The girl was about 8 years old at the time, prosecutors said. At his arraignment in Quincy District Court, Ohazulume, 50, pleaded not guilty to three counts of aggravated indecent assault and battery of a child under 14. He allegedly touched the girl’s vaginal area, fondled her breast, and forcibly kissed her, prosecutors said. https://c-o0bg-com.cdn.ampproject.org/i/s/c.o0bg.com/rf/image_960x640/Boston/2011-2020/2018/09/11/BostonGlobe.com/Metro/Images/lee_091118_Ohazulume4a_met.jpg In an interview with police last week, the alleged victim said she had come from Nigeria to live with her father, stepmother, and brothers in Randolph when she was about 7. Her father introduced Ohazulume as his nephew, she told police. She told investigators that Ohazulume would drive her to and from school and help with baby-sitting, according to court documents. Her father worked long hours as a pharmacist in Dorchester and would come home late, she said. The alleged assault occurred when she went to Ohazulume’s bedroom for help with her homework one night when nobody else was home, the woman told police. At one point, he went to the bathroom and returned to stand over her, handling her breasts, she said. When she approached him later that evening to show him her homework, he forced his tongue into her mouth, the woman told police. He then lay on top of her on the bed and rubbed her vaginal area over her clothing, she said. She forced his hand away and ran from the room, she said. Afterward, he continued to drive her to school but she became very angry with everyone in the house, where Ohazulume would hold private Masses for the family. The woman said she returned to Nigeria when she was 11 or 12, then came back to Randolph to attend Roxbury Community College. https://cbsboston-files-wordpress-com.cdn.ampproject.org/i/s/cbsboston.files./2018/09/priest.jpg?w=840&h=472 Ohazulume had worked as a chaplain at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center while residing at St. Mary of the Assumption Parish in Brookline since 2010, according to The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Boston. Jennifer Kritz, a spokeswoman for Beth Israel, said Ohazulume had been fired from his job at the hospital. “The Archdiocese has been in contact with his home Diocese of Nnewi, Nigeria and informed them of the allegation and that his faculties to minister have been withdrawn in the Archdiocese of Boston,” the statement read. “The Archdiocese was advised by law enforcement to delay until today release of this information while they initiated their investigation.” Source: https://www.bostonglobe.com/metro/2018/09/11/boston-archdiocese-removes-hospital-chaplain-from-ministry-after-sex-abuse-allegation/F42aBBRIQK07XRQFzhJLqL/story.html |
At least, not the regular SIM cards introduced in the 90's and currently in use worldwide. That's right, NO SIM CARD TRAY. https://cdn-gsmarena-com.cdn.ampproject.org/ii/w1200/s/cdn.gsmarena.com/imgroot/news/17/10/what-is-an-esim/-728w2/gsmarena_002.jpg Imagine this: Mr Joshua has to travel from Lagos State where MTN network reception is freely available, to his hometown in rural Udi, Enugu state, where only airtel has a mast, and MTN has no network service at all. Each time he has to travel he has to pack an Airtel SIM card to use in his hometown. Then one December he does the same, only to discover that the airtel mast had been vandalized and there is no service available, but there's a new Globacom mast and Glo service. But he has no Glo SIM card, and it's the holidays, so he has nowhere to buy and register the SIM card. But what if he didn't have to travel with the airtel SIM card? What if he didn't have to travel with any SIM card at all? What if his phone didn't even have a SIM card slot? www.nairaland.com/attachments/7752211_czf3s3wuyaaliw_jpeg_jpeg0f56907257114a023392f6dc784cfda9 This technology, referred to as the E-SIM, is already available in the newer Google Pixel devices and Apple watches, and Apple plans to incorporate it in the latest iPhones. It consists of a chip in the phone which enables the user to switch to any network he chooses simply Over The Air(OTA) Like dialing *123# or *777# to buy or check airtime balance or data on your phone. This new technology opens the door to a world of possibility: Cars manufactured with the E-SIM chip from the factory; enabling instant connection, like the old days of car phones Laptops with the E-SIM chip enabling the user to use data directly, without Wi-Fi or using a modem of any kind Lost phones would not be so easy to use by the thief because the SIM would be non removable. The possibilities are truly endless. https://media.kasperskydaily.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/92/2016/02/06022903/esim-featured.png Source: https://www.bloomberg.com/view/articles/2018-09-11/apple-aapl-considers-the-death-of-the-iphone-sim-card Lalasticlala, Dominique and mynd44, what do you think about this technology? |
soffyB:my passion is doing very well, thanks for your concern. as for companies sending press releases, check the post where I posted that it was a media release. I also know that even when there are press releases the blogs or recipients always link back to the original source, yet every post on nairaland has the copied post on autojosh as the source besides that Volvo thread in particular was copied verbatim from Volvo website itself, there was no press release what you and your friend are up to may seem to be an easy path to backlinks but in the long run copying content like that will hurt your website. I have nothing to gain or lose either way, but these are ideas that can move your brand forward it's constructive criticism, if you can't see that then you're on your own |
noble71:nobody bro, original ideas are what moves a technical niche blog like autojosh.com forward. plagiarism is not cool at all. like the Volvo thread the other day that also ended up on front page this post was also plagiarized. if you doubt me go to http://media.mitsubishicars.com/releases/all-new-mitsubishi-2018-eclipse-cross-offers-stimulating-design-confidence-inspiring-driving-and-technology-to-help-drive-your-ambition that's the original post. though its a media release, they copied it word for word and posted on autojosh, then lifted it again and posted on nairaland, and then used the copied article on autojosh.com as their source on nairaland, making it seem like an original autojosh.com content. As was mentioned in that volvo thread, if a crook steals from Bank A and deposits the stolen money in Bank B, and then used the money from bank B to pay bills to bank C, is the money not still stolen? |
solutionist:no blog my brother, just some pertinent observations |
all these out of touch car topics by autojosh if you'll be a successful auto niche blogger you need to create better original content tailored to your primary audience. here's a free idea; get one each of 2003, 2010, 2013 and 2017 Toyota Corolla in an open quiet place you can even partner with one of our car dealers in the auto section, shout them out or display their logo or contact info, promote them do a detailed review, point out the different features, upgrades, pros and cons, etc The views and feedback would be massive. It will sell itself not all these Geneva auto show or bugatti Jollof rice topics the mods keep pushing to front page by force. if you doubt me check how many of your front page topics get past the first page even with the irrelevant comments, compared to the other front page topics. as it is now you're fighting with all those job vacancy people for least number of views and comments. with time even nairaland front page would not help your blog with your copied content or boring original stuff my 2 cents anyway. just my opinion |
