PRINTING OF ID CARD

➡Goto ‘Task’ on your portal menu.
➡Click ‘Your ID Card’
➡Click ‘Preview ID’
➡Click “Print”
➡Adjust the size of the ID using the Printer settings.
➡Print ID Card.

General Instructions
DIRECTORATE OF SIWES


GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS TO STUDENTS ON SIWES

The SIWES Programme will soon commence, the following documents are to be downloaded from the platform after filling the online master List; Form 001, Form 002 ( Placement Letter), Form 003 (Acceptance of SIWES Form). On securing a placement for SIWES, students are expected to fill the online Placement List and download Form 004 (SIWES Job Reporting Form), Form 005 (SIWES Employers’ Evaluation Form). Then Collect the SIWES Logbook, SCAF Form and ITF Form 8 (ITF funded programmes only) from the Desk Officer at your Study Centres.
➡Placement Letter – This is the formal letter of placement to be submitted to the employer by each intending SIWES student. This letter is used for seeking for a place of SIWES relevant to fields of studies of the students.
➡Acceptance of SIWES Form – This is a reply to the placement letter submitted above from the employer to the Directorate of SIWES. Students must obtain a signed Acceptance of SIWES form from their employers on securing a place for the SIWES attachment.
➡Job Reporting Form – It is to be completed by the student as he/she assumes duty. The form must be returned to the Study Centres within two weeks of the commencement of SIWES. The information on the form will assist the Directorate during the supervision visits. Failure to return this form is taken as non-participation in the programme.
➡The SIWES Logbook – should be completed daily and signed weekly by the industry-based supervisor. This is very important. The logbook will be examined during supervision visits and be checked along with work reports on industrial work experience. You must have the logbook with you every time you are on duty.
➡SIWES Evaluation Form is to be completed by the employer at the end of the SIWES programme. It must be brought back to the Desk Officer at the Study Centre under confidential cover.
↪Students should note that SIWES is not a vacation job. It is a compulsory programme and an integral part of academic work. Any case of indiscipline during this period will attract severe disciplinary measures. If a student has any problem with his/her place of SIWES attachment, he/she should contact the Directorate immediately.
There should be no change of employer unless the Directorate gives a written permission. Any change without a written permission will be regarded as non-participation in the programme.


In conclusion, I will like to assure you that the Directorate will come to your assistance whenever you are in any form of difficulty. You should feel free to send a mail or discuss with the supervisors during supervision visits. In any case of emergency, you should contact your Desk Officer or the Directorate immediately.

6 TRUTHS ABOUT PROJECT SUPERVISORS & WHAT YOU CAN DO


Just got a difficult project supervisor?

As in, sometimes he yell at you on the phone? sad Other times he ignores you, makes you feel worthless, and threatens to nullify your research? shocked

It’s like he is becoming the enemy your spiritual leader used to talk about, right? Here is a list of hidden truths about this set of supervisors you need to know:

1. They need you more than you need them:

I understand we've been made to believe supervisors are demigods, but the truth is that they largely need you more! Some lecturers are inexperienced in the area of supervision, hence they're added to a list of supervisors to gain 'experience'. While it is, perhaps, reasonable, the result might be devastating as they sometimes try to prove some 'points'.

As regard the experienced ones, your work is needed to elevate their portfolio. Supervision counts, they all get paid for it, get rewarded career-wise, and when you deliver an invaluable research, they prove authorship on all or some contents without your consent.

What can you do? Do Nothing when you have no proof.

2. You were assigned a project supervisor based on institutional convenience, not necessarily by research contribution

This is straightforward. Students are sometimes made to believe they were assigned a supervisor who has contributed immensely to their research field. While this might be true in some instances, have you ever considered what would happen when you choose a preferred topic and none of your Lecturers has contributed to that field? I bet, your institution would never hire a Lecturer for your singular sake even if you've paid a million naira tuition. Institutional convenience would make them force a topic down your throat, and when you resist, be prepared for battle.

3. They are career-obsessed and self-centered.

Do not let the aggressiveness deceive you. You may have thought the yelling and agitations are meant to make you excel, but the truth remains that he's more concerned about his career, his articles, promotion, etc. You both are engaging in similar tasks. An average supervisor conducts research from time to time, so God help you if two of his recently submitted articles have just been rejected by a reviewer. You'd have to explain to him reasons the articles were declared unfit for publication.

4. They do not read your work

Frankly, supervision is difficult. It takes more than commitment to supervise tens to hundred within a short timeframe. So, do not be surprised to read that majority do not read their students' papers in toto. HOWEVER, do not! AGAIN, do not, under the guise of this belief, present an incoherent writeup. Be rest assured that your work would be strictly monitored as soon as something fantastically devastating is spotted. So be cautious, and put the right things in place.

5. A bad relationship between students and supervisors is not always the fault of the supervisor

As previously mentioned, supervision is hard; it is harder when a communication gap sets in. Improved communication can dramatically improve your relationship with an aggressive supervisor. How do you improve your communication from the onset? State your goals and study objectives clearly; give your supervisor the aim of your research and what you seek to achieve. Be assertive when and where necessary.

More so, do not rule out the possibility of a bad personality fit. A supervisor who is overly taciturn may find it hard to engage you in a 10 minute conversation. It isn't really his fault, you have no control over his personality.

6. They give plantain, and demand plantain chips

This trend cuts across diverse institutions. Do not rely ONLY on Research Methodology 401, 501, 701 classes. They will ONLY define qualitative research, and demand from you Grounded Theory. Don't even expect, in your imaginations, to get intensive SPSS, Ms-Excel classes or training on other analytical Software like Orange.

You would be taught the conceptual differences between reliability and validity, but that's just about it. Expect nothing on how to to carryout a reliability or validity test on a survey questionnaire with 7-item Likert scales.

While you do need thorough explanations on certain research topics, there is usually no time or finance to acquire such. Hence, ensure that you're being guided by a good Lecturer, or someone with prerequisite understanding of your research process.

PROJECT AND NON EXAMINABLE COURSES ADVICE

It's now so much obvious that many are being delayed either for IT results or Project results. I have a cheap advice for all students in lower level that doing your IT and Project at the early stage is the best remedy to all the problems of having issues, some study centres are fond of not taking the right steps in ensuring prompt release of results of project and IT either by human error or computer error.
If you are in lower level my advice is for you to take your IT in 300l first semester this will give you an edge that you have settled one of the beast holding students for longer periods in school. Once you are done with it in 300l first semester do your possible best in your IT and it will be released if not the following semester it will be your 400l first semester.

Also, as a student of NOUN you don't have a barrier of not registering a course of your choice so which means u can register any course at any level in other words in as much as you have passed your Research Methodology either in 300l or 200l you are entitled to write a project don't always wait till you get to your finals before you start writing. Reasons you should write your project early

1. Your supervisor might delay you

2. Your study centre might delay you from graduating by not sending your project to the Hqtrs on time for Moderation

3. When others are running around to do their project you might have done your project and see your result which will make you feel relaxed at the end of your semester in NOUN and you will have to focus on your remaining courses.

It's of best interest I advice every student to do their project, seminar and IT earlier than the level in which they ought to do it so that you can focus on other things and if you have references during those period you can bring it to your finals which makes it easier for you to tackle effectively.

STILL ON NEGATIVE BALANCE IN WALLET

Good morning NOUNITES, still on the negative balance in wallets... If you find yours not being cleared totally by clicking on View Wallet under eWallet continuously, kindly take these steps:

1. If you notice any RRR saying: Payment for certain RRR not completed, copy the RRR somewhere.

2. Log out and check the RRR (without dash and without logging in)

3. Do this twice to thrice till it shows, transaction successful

4. Then log in and input the RRR under eWallet

NOTE: It may go through and reflect, hence, cut off the negative balance OR it does not, and tell you... 'Only the Bursary' can blah blah.

5. If it goes through, congratulations, good for you.
If it does not, just calm your nerves, and wait till the ICT departments finish their maintenance work on the site.

If you don't confirm that everyone is almost free from the negative balance, don't disturb yourself, nor should you pay, nor should you bother going to your ICT department yet (to avoid wasting of money and time)

The ball remains in our court. Stay Calm.
All will be well, and remember, give no one your school fees to pay for you, else, you may not be sure to fight negative balance issues yourself in the future.

Download your course materials, get a revision group with your specific course mates, and start preparing - that's all you need for now. Don't let 'I have not registered' later register you as a carrier of carry overs.

2020_1 SUMMARY FROM THE CALENDAR

New Students
1. Your Orientation comes up on 20th March (Please attend the Orientation at your study centres and ask questions based on what you've known about the school so far - anything about NOUN)

2. Your Matriculation would be held on 21st March (Please attend and ask for your faculty handbook and Polo-Shirt/Cap, all should be free that day)


Graduating Students
We would miss you but such is life, to stay at the top you have to keep up the struggles from one level to another. Your convocation would come up between 24th - 28th March. Go get the certificate you've been struggling for and improve your life with it.


General Info
1. Facilitation (Lectures) at all study centres and online at LCMS portal begins on 25th February, and ends on 30th April. You should also collect your Textbooks/Course materials at your study centre within same period.

2. Admissions and all registrations ends on 11th March.

3. IT/SIWES defense would run between 4th May to 3rd June.

4. Pen on Paper (PoP [Hand written]) examinations (It's for OLDER students 300L to 800L)begins on 3rd June and Ends on 24th June (Just 3 weeks - prepare for at least 2 exams daily)

5. E-Examination exercise (Computer Based [It's for new students 100L to 200L]) begins on 1st July and Ends on 22nd July (Just 3 weeks - prepare for at least 2 exams daily)


Schedule for Tutor Marked Assignment/Assessment (TMA)
TMA 1: Would run between 9th - 30th March (21 days)
TMA 2: Would run between 30th March - 20th April (21 days)
TMA 3: Would run between 20th April - 30th April (10 DAYS)

RELEASE OF RESULTS
The expected date for the release of results if it's accepted by the senate is 10th August, 2020.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

1.To qualify for admission into any of the postgraduate programmes of the University, a candidate must meet, among others, all matriculation requirements of at least five (5) credit passes including English Language and Mathematics. Some programmes accept at least a pass in Mathematics.

2. For Postgraduate Diploma Programmes, Candidates must possess either a minimum of pass Bachelors Degree in any discipline from a University recognised by the Senate of the NOUN OR a Higher National Diploma with a minimum of Lower Credit. For the Postgraduate Diploma in Legislative Drafting, the candidate must have been called to the Bar. Also for admission into the school of Business and Human Resource Management Postgraduate Diploma programmes,

For Master degree programmes, candidates must possess either a Bachelors Degree with a minimum of second class lower in the relevant field of study from a University recongnised by the Senate of the NOUN. However, holders of lower classificationOR a Postgraduate Diploma in related field of study from a recongnised University.

Pls, i regst for project when registr fees ws reduce to 3k. But later, it ws change back to 40k. Since then, i ve -37000 balance on my portal which i kn is not an error.
Now am expectin my name on the graduation list. My question is can i pay into my portal now and if i pay 37000, wu the money deducted nd stand for balance of the 3k projct registration.
