L remember how I ran out of petrol one night in port harcourt around 9pm. I went to buy petrol from a nearby station about 500 meters away
when I came back my car wouldn't start because I left the lights on and the battery had run down ,I couldn't push and start the car at the same
time so I looked around to see if there was anyone around to help me. The only person I saw was one of those scrap iron sellers that push carts.
y know those northern ones...... he agreed to help push my car....then he spotted one of his peers.... he called him over and they both helped push
the car which started almost immediately....as the car started I looked in the mirror only to see that the two northerners had turned away and were about to be on their way ....they were actually walkng away without asking me for a penny. I called them...thanked them in hausa and gave them some money which they reluctantly accepted. No pun intended but if those were native port harcourt people the first thing they would have done
would be to negotiate for money.
