Lols, forget raising funds or meeting any serious investor at Nigerian entrepreneurship event. Many of these called social entrepreneurs claiming to be helping start ups are thieves. They go solicit for funds on behalf of a " program", demand an equity from founders with promises of meeting investors and getting your business funded, in the end you realise it's all scam. I have been there before.
Except, your product can attract international recognition or someway novel. Forget about getting funding from Nigerian investors. Just keep on with your work and apply to foreign acceleration programs. Your work will speak. Nobody knew paystack until they got to Y combinator in california. Now everyone dey famz with them. If they had approached some of those wanting to invest now some 3 to 4 years back, the answer would have been No. This is a problem in Nigeria. I understand what the economy is but truth is just like the citizens, there is lack of foresight and thus risk aversions in the business and investment environment.
Never pay to pitch to investors. That's a wrong step for any serious entrepreneur. They investors are not helping you, you are helping them. That was even a red flag. You are selling a future multi million dollar company to them. You are giving them an opportunity to turn their thousands of dollars to millions in equity. Why pay them to release. Never pay, unless it's an acceleration program that promises you an investment and gives you the money even before the start of the program.
exactly. I knew this ayeen was a scam from the first day. I wonder why they have such caliber of persons backing them.
my friend qualified for the "grant" with a promise of 9 million to fund his venture, eventually, they said they will instead give him as a loan. he agreed. till today, they have been foot dragging.

How to Scam 1000 young entrepreneurs and make millions of Naira before Christmas (10 easy steps below):

Step 1. Set up a platform called Africa's Young Entrepreneurs (AYE) and claim that it is the largest networking event for entrepreneurs in Africa.

Step 2. Use your connections to solicit for support/affiliation from a few prominent Nigerians and 'oyibo' people that we are supposed to be impressed by.

Step 3. Promise young entrepreneurs all over Nigeria that their business ideas will be funded. Make them go through a shabby 'application process' where they spend their precious time and hard earned money to travel long distances for screening then send them a congratulations email that they are BENEFICIARIES of an undisclosed award.

Step 4. Invite them to pitch their ideas at a panel but charge them huge sums of money for it (in 2015 struggling entrepreneurs were asked to pay N30,000 for a chance to 'pitch' their business ideas to a panel and most were given nothing in return. No mentorship. No financial aid. No resources. Nothing)
*Where on earth are people charged money to pitch their business ideas? This is called Advance Fee Fraud (aka 419) as it falls under Section 419 of the Criminal Code.

Step 5. Hold a fancy event at Oriental Hotel, Lekki and invite politicians to hijack it as a platform to campaign for 2019 (I am personally disappointed that Senator. Ben Murray Bruce would openly voice his support for former Vice President Atiku Abubakar towards 2019 elections, in a room full of Young Entrepreneurs seeking to take Nigeria forward not backwards.)

Step 6. Call the event "Networking With Giants Conference," but do not allow any of the attendees to have access to meet any of the "giants." Instead let the "giants" tell us the challenges of doing business in Nigeria (which we are more familiar with than they are, with all due respect.)

Step 7. In the middle of the program, invite Alibaba (the comedian) to unhumorously solicit for funds from the attendees INCLUDING THE ENTREPRENEURS WHO ARE SEEKING FOR FUNDING! UNBELIEVABLE!!! We are disappointed as to how a distinguished Senior Citizen such as Alibaba could be blindfolded into such a charade of an event.

Step 8. Hire Usherettes to carry POS around and harass people to donate money including the people who came hoping to get funding for their businesses. Really!??

Step 9. Gather all the so called BENEFICIARIES to snap group picture and give them cheap neck warmer and empty certificate paper with no name or signature on it as proof of what you have done (assumably for the purpose of soliciting funds from foreign donor organisations).

Step 10. Hire Lil Kesh and other artistes to perform to a room full of "BENEFICIARIES" who are still so confused at what is happening till at almost midnight they start leaving disappointed...after 3 months of application procedures, paying for ticket, travel expenses from different parts of Nigeria to attend a political event that they never opted for.

That is a simple 10 step process to scamming over 5000 young Nigerian entrepreneurs as executed by Summi Smart Francis, founder of AYE.

Summary:
The AYE 2017 "Networking with Giants Conference" was simply a night of politics that was played with young aspiring Nigerian entrepreneurs as the pawns. A very fine show of the true position of the Nigerian youth today - mere tools for political ends while the youths themselves return home empty handed after the politics have been played.

We sincerely appreciated the presence of the dignitaries present especially the likes of Fela Durotoye who gave a compelling talk about the future of Nigeria and the ABC's of getting it right for the sake of the youths upon who the future depends. We also appreciate the likes of Patrick Utomi and others who shared their wealth of experience in the Nigerian business terrain, likewise the warmth of Mrs. Folorunsho Alakija who has been grand matron of the event for 3 years running. But what we saw last night was a sham!

Please share this post until it goes viral. Mrs. Folorusho Alakija (grand matron of AYE), Chief. Bola Ahmed Tinubu (grand patron of AYE), Fela Durotoye, Pat Utomi, Sen. Ben Murray Bruce, former Vice President Atiku Abubakr, Fidelity Bank Managing Director and all the other dignitaries at the event too numerous to mention deserve to know hear our feedback since we were not given audience that night.

We wish to state that the Nigerian youths will no longer be used as pawns to political ends. We hereby urge the above named distinguished citizens of Nigeria to caution the activities of the management of the Africa Young Entrepreneurs platform and its founder Mr. Sunmi Smart Francis.

We shall be seeking redress via due process soon.

(Kindly share on every social media platform available, tag anyone who attended the AYE 2017 conference and tag bloggers and news outlet willing to publish this piece)

my only problem with the picture is why they decided to select only the guys with muscles and six packs to hold the pots. what of flat chested people like me? what if I want to lift pot too? this is discrimination. it is not fair and I will not stand for it. I call for a total overhaul of the selection process to be all inclusive.

Car Talk / Rules For Visiting Your Mechanic by aprokomania(m): 2:59pm On Nov 08, 2017
I am writing this with a heavy heart. I am sitting here in my mechanic workshop, waiting for them to spray paint some scratches on my vehicle body, but that is not why I am sad.
You see, I saw a boy who said he will wash my headlamps and make them shine, and out of the kindness of my heart, I gave him the contract. He was to do it at five hundred naira.

while I was distracted, little imp told me my headlight was bad, and I have to buy a new one. Now I know that is a lie, but there is no way to prove it.

He brings one burned out light and says it is mine.

Long story short, I am going home with one light working, while ogbeni will most likely sell my light as Belgium.

Here are three important rules to guide you so you don't fall victim like I just did.

1 stay woke. these guys are all crooks. monitor every little thing they touch. they have been at their game for aeons and you are a visitor. they will not find it difficult stealing any and every of your car parts. It is their hobby.

2 never give them money to buy parts for you. take the pains to go and look for it and get a good bargain. They will collect 10,000 naira for brake pad and 30 thousand for battery if you allow them.

3 if you must let them buy anything for you, verify it is original. they have a penchant for giving substandard products to their clients. It gives them orgasms.

stay woke. don't be sheep.

The former minister of aviation; Femi Fani Kayode took to his twitter handle to describe the real reason Ibe Kachikwu has not yet met with the President, as well as why he is being undermined at NNPC

Why is Ibe Kachikwu, the Min. of State for Petroleum Resources, surprised that he has not been granted access to @MBuhari and that the northern MD of NNPC is undermining him? Did he expect it to be any different? Has he forgotten he is Igbo? To Buhari ALL southerners are slaves.

Crime / Couple Investigated For Using Children To Carry Bride’s Wedding Gown (photos) by aprokomania(m): 12:21pm On Sep 23, 2017
A Sri Lankan couple are under investigation for using hundreds of school children to carry the train of the bride’s saree during a wedding ceremony.

About 250 students carried the train of the two-mile long saree worn by the bride, as she and the groom walked down a main road in the centre of the Kandy.

The National Child Protection Authority (NCPA) said using students for such ceremonies during school hours was against the law, with violators facing up to 10 years in prison.

The saree is the longest ever worn by a bride in Sri Lanka and another 100 students, from the state-owned school, served as flower girls at the wedding.

The students were from a school named after Central Province Chief Minister Sarath Ekanayaka, who was a special guest at the wedding,

‘We have started an investigation. We are going all out because we don’t want this to become a trend,’ said NCPA Chairman Marini de Livera.
‘What they (the wedding party) did is a violation of child rights,’ de Livera said. ‘Depriving children of education, risking their security and harming their dignity are criminal offences.’

Crime / Teenager Kills Mum Because Of Puppy by aprokomania(m): 10:05am On Sep 22, 2017
young teenage son has ended the life of his mother in a tragic way after an altercation with her at home.

A teen fatally shot his mother in the back of the head after she told him he couldn’t keep a puppy in their home, police said.

The Lansing State Journal reported that the teenager identified as Andrew David Willson, 19, was charged Monday with murder and felony firearm possession after his mother Lisa Marie Willson, 51, was found dead in her home.

Willson called police early Friday morning to say he returned to their Wheatfield Township, Mich., home to find his mother dead in a bedroom, the Ingham County Sheriff’s detective Charles Buckland testified.

The teen talked to his mother about the puppy the night before, but she told him he would have to bring the dog to his father’s home instead, according to the detective.

Andrew Willson later told detectives that he used a rifle from a locked cabinet and shot his mother in the back of the head while she was sleeping, according to Buckland. Police recovered the .22 Magnum, which the 19-year-old discarded on a drive on back roads, Buckland testified.

Andrew Willson, who was denied bond at his arraignment Monday, is scheduled to appear for a preliminary hearing on Sept. 28.
