The presidency of Nigeria is not the most important thing to the Igbo nation at the moment, there are other things more important than that. Ohanaeze President, John Nwodo, said it clearly in a recent interview that an Igbo president who is operating under a "jaundiced" 1999 constitution, which nobody agreed to, would be useless.

The Presidency of Nigeria is only attractive to those who depend heavily on government. Buhari will be in office for 8 years but his NW zone has a much higher rate of crime, insecurity, illiteracy, underdevelopment and poverty than the SE. Not less than 3 Presidents have been produced by the NW yet they have an 80% poverty rate compared to less than 35% in the SE.

We have a constitution that did not originate from the people, we have a system of government that is defective, we claim to operate a federation when we dont, and all some people can think of is the Presidency of Nigeria that has never helped the common man on the streets
.....but you Atikulated in the last election, why did you when you already knew all this?

All those you voted under PDP had indeed turned the SE into a Dubai already.
You see yourself already, you call them idiots for contesting under APC but those contesting under PDP are saints, how would any diehard APC supporter from other parts of Nigeria take you serious with such a statement.

Continue digging the SE political grave, time will tell how you'd eventually fall into it with your miserly 5%.

People like Kenneth Okonkwo was booed and even his lfe was threatened for daring to contest under APC and I'm sure many who would've contested under APC couldn't any longer because they feared the backlash.

The onus is on the SE to lead in the quest to produce the next president since other regions have had a taste of it since 1999.
The SE should be seen seriously canvassing for the support of other Nigerians and not threatening them.
By now, while others are still making up their minds on who they would present, the SE ought to have settled that and already marketing the person to others and not blackmailing others into voting an Igbo.

I do not quite agree that calling for secession or referendum is treason or even unlawful?
MASSOB have been doing that for ever.
IPOB have crossed the line
What is unlawful is to seek that goal by force of arms.
There is nothing prohibiting the formation of a political prth to achieve that goal or to lobby elected representatives for a referendum.

In order to have a referendum an Act of the National Assembly would suffice.
However the outcome of such referendum may only have advisory force unless there is a constitutional change depending on whether the referendum issue requires constitutional change
In short if the correct legal framework is not in place the outcome may be unenforceable
Sometimes government has the power to carry out specific actions but chooses to take the matter to referendum a good example is BREXIT.
Even after that there was no legal duty to comply
You made some valid points there, thanks.
I for one wouldn't have accepted that a call for referendum to secede should be deemed a criminal act but it was signed into law by Ironsi as the military head of state and what was the reaction of the Igbos then, why did they keep quiet without condemning the act is still a big question today which most Igbos shy away from.
This is one of the sins he committed against the Nigerian state.

Yes Countries, not Nations, are created by force. They question is, why do they have to remain together by force? Especially after after the colonial masters have left? I personally believe that Britain should have conducted a referendum before they left in 1960, for everyone to decide if they want to continue with their colonial contraption called Nigeria, but they never did that.

Nations are created by consensus, and even after that nation is created, the constituent parts still reserve the right to agitate to opt out if they feel it is not working for them. Even our colonial masters, Britain, recognised that right when they gave Northern Ireland a referendum in 1971, and Scotland, in 2014. The very people who made you a "Nigerian" are not against breaking up because they are civilised.

But you they made a "Nigerian" is prepared to fight civil war, declare python dance, kill many people, over a simple matter others use referendum to settle. Thats because you are not civilised

The indigenous people of America you are talking about, America gave them "Reservations" where they exercise a high degree of autonomy and self rule so using them as an example is stupid

Stop talking about Zik, he is only one man, same as Nnamdi Kanu. Democracy is not based on what one person wants. Democracy is about what the majority wants. Thats why referendums are conducted to let people decide.

This is not about Nnamdi Kanu, this is about what me and my fellow Igbos want. Do the majority of Igbos want to be part if Nigeria or not? Only a referendum will answer that question.

Nnamdi Kanu is only agitating that such referendum be allowed and he is backed by Article 1 of the UN charter and Article 20 of the African charter that Nigeria has signed up to.
I already knew that your UN charter would eventually come up as usual, why not evoke it and declare your referendum and secession all at once.

You and other Igbos are now governed by laws equally signed by Igbos before independence, if the Igbos then weren't happy with the state of things then, they ought to have questioned their representatives they voted for. Whatever the Igbos signed then is binding on you today.

Zik was not the only representative the people of the old Eastern region voted for, there were other reps too so he wasn't running a one man show, who voted Kanu and IPOB to represent and speak for the Igbos?

Igbos have their states that are governed by Igbos, if you want any change to the status quo, you can still effect it diplomatically.

The Brits made you a Nigerian and Igbos of the time agreed to it so that makes you a Nigerian and if you don't like it, dump the Nigerian passport and go naturalise elsewhere.

Why not go to any component part of the US, France etc and say you want a referendum for secession since they're all democracies and everyone or group must have the right to opt in or out as they please?

But is against it being zoned to south east because they have buhari low votes

North east gave buhari more votes than south combined so deserve it based on south west logic

If zoning is not to south east then its not zoning , the door is open for everyone to contest
Continue your zoning in the PDP that Igbo politicians destroyed earlier and let PDP zone the presidency to the SE, the SW and APC hasn't told you they are zoning

Very good, Tinubu and his goons have now openly attacked the interest of the East in APC, he is saying that the Ngiges, Ogbonnayas, Amaechis, Ositas, Igbokwes in APC are all slaves who should not be voted for, abi when is the right time for an Easterner to lead, after SW have ruled from 1999-2007 if not now.

I think he is fair game to be thrown under the bus by the SE SS region. If him and his greed will prevail, I pray he gets the ticket and then face a Northern candidate+ SE+ SS region in PDP, which he can't survive, even Awolowo who was more reputable than him couldn't survive against such alliance.

If the ticket can't come East, then it means there is no zoning, and the North can also contest and keep it. More reason I've always maintained that PDP must wait for APC to zone their ticket before picking their candidate.

May God keep us alive till 2023.

I like the Southwesterners but their seeming reluctance to independence or change is worrying.
The reason there may be war if Biafra is declared is if Oduduwa, middle belt are unable to declare same time. Declare same time and the military looses the power to fight!
Why are you patronizing him, did he tell you he wanted Oduduwa republic? You want your Igbo Biafra, why not go all out for it instead of trying to bring the SW and middle belt into it, thank God that this time you didn't pull in the SS as usual.

The agitation for Biafra is driven by marginalization of Easterners. If a friendly govt is in power like Yaradua, then there is a sense of belonging.
MASSOB didn't go about insulting other Nigerians and calling for death for them and that was why the group was never proscribed till date and designated a terrorist group unlike IPOB and Kanu who preached hate and death for other Nigerians thereby jeopardizing the safety of Igbos all over the country

Biafra land is never conquered, the only legitimate govts Nigeria has ever had are the democratic govts, all the actions done under Gowon and military in general are illegitimate because they were illegitimate governments! As far as we know, we must go back to the 1963 constitution else back to 1967 Biafra.
You going back to the 1963 constitution requires your state house of assembly before the national assembly so you would need to start from your representative.

Getting back to 1967 Biafra is asking for another war and would be Igbo Biafra just like in 1967 but this time, more brutal.

Even a blind man knows Nigeria is not working, so why trying to whip a dead horse? As at when Biafra was declared, the Eastern block was one region and one state so Biafra couldn't have been declared otherwise!
You are trying to be clever by half. You know democratic means in Nigeria to achieving Biafra is a cul-de-sac yet you are advocating that route.
Nigerians seems to think Igbos achieving Biafra
is like eventually winning the 1967 civil war and if that is the fear, it will surely come, it's a matter of time. Nigeria is too unstable to be one country for a long time!
Have you asked yourself how the USSR managed to break into 11republics without a single bullet shot? The reason for the breakup was far from what you gave as the reason, did you know that most of them were independent countries before they merged and the agreements they had if they are to break up?

Have you asked yourself how former Yugoslavia had to go into years of war and killings before they finally broke up and the whole world rested? Do you know that most of the countries were parts of other empires and kingdoms before they merged? Do you even know why they merged?

Have you asked yourself why countries like the US, Russia, China, Nigeria, France and virtually every country in the world don't have any referendum for secession in their constitutions but Canada, UK, Belgium, Spain, Switzerland etc do have it?

You'd need to study different countries and their history to know how they evolved in their sociopolitical history to know this and that's what I'd advice you to do so you can understand more.

Nigeria would've been a country with that in our constitution but read and study our sociopolitical history to know why it was jettisoned and by who.

Any part of the country that still wants out still has the opportunity but there's a path to follow in order to get it into the constitution and failure to do so, your Igbo Biafra would be annihilated this time with maybe over 30 million dead from different causes(God forbid it and that is IF you follow due process).

Get your Biafra by;
1) Diplomatic process,

2) War.

Our forefathers never signed up to Nigeria. Never was was a referendum held in which Igbos were given the option becoming Nigerians. The Nigeria we gave today was the making of the British. In 1960, the British colony called Nigeria assumed self rule and adopted a constitution.

There is no such thing as anyone signing up to Nigeria, what the ethnic nationalities signed up to was independence and self rule from Britain.

The same way the British forced everyone into a colonial contraption called "Nigeria" just for their selfish interests, is the same way some sections are forcing others to remain in the colonial contraption called Nigeria, also for their selfish interests

Nigeria has remained what it since the days the British created, just another system to exploit people
Were the likes of Zik, Awo and Bello selected by the British or elected by the people of their regions to represent them? They were leader of their parties meaning there were other members elected by the people to represent them and whatever they say means the people agree with their representatives

If the people of the old Eastern region decided not to sign up to Nigeria, it should've been up to their representatives to mention it to the Brits and since the people didn't do such, it means they were in agreement with the British.

When Zik refused referendum and secession in the constitution, why didn't the people of the old Eastern region revolt against him? When he refused the de-amalgamation of the country, why didn't the people of the old Eastern region revolt too? This only goes to show that the people agreed with their representatives and of course the Brits too.

So why blaming the Brits only when the leaders and people of the old Eastern region had all the power to right the wrongs of the Brits? Why crying the victims when the leaders and people of the old Eastern region brought about the calamity this country is presently in, Ironsi and Ojukwu finally nailed the coffin with their poor judgment of events.

These issues have been going on before the border closure so it's nothing to do with ripple effects.

First, there is a law in Ghana that prohibits retail trade by foreigners. Nigerians are heavily involved in the retail trade however, citing free trade principles under ECOWAS protocols.

Secondly, the Ghanaian government is inactive on the issue, providing an administrative claw back to the application of the law, probably for diplomatic reasons.

GUTA is taking the law into their hands by closing Nigerian-owned shops which they are not empowered to do by law.

These are the issues.
Exactly, closure of Nigerian owned shops has nothing to do with the border closure, it has been happening even before Buhari became the president.

Ghana already has her local laws pertaining retailing by locals and foreigners and I believe Nigerians over there should abide by their rules or leave to other countries or at most return back to Nigeria, simple.
