Politics › Ndigbo In Akure Eats Humble Pie, Begs Deji Over Misconduct Of Eze by aresa(op): 12:58am On Oct 24, 2015 |
The leadership of the Igbo community in Akure, Ondo State, on Friday swallowed its pride and begged for pardon from the Deji of Akure, Aladetoyinbo Adelusi, following two weeks of hostilities between the Igbo community and the palace. The Deji had vowed to obliterate the position of the Eze Ndigbo of Akure, after the title holder, Gregory Iloehika, allegedly insulted the traditional ruler. Mr. Iloehika, was accused of rude behaviour at the Deji’s palace, an action which angered the Chiefs and resulted in a war of wits between the palace chiefs and Igbo traders. The crisis had started two weeks ago with the leadership tussle between Igbos and Yorubas at the Mojere Market in Akure, but became widespread after the interventionfrom the Deji’s palace were resisted by the Igbo traders. Mr. Iloehika was said to have made uncomplimentary remarks against the Deji in Council, and was immediately walked out of the palace by the Chiefs. Viewing the action as an insult to the traditional stool, the Deji ordered the closure of the shops of the Igbo traders as well as the business premises of Mr. Iloehika along Cathedral Road in the heart of the city. His position as Eze Ndigbo was also nullified, with a declaration that he should no longer parade himself as the leader of the Igbo community in Akure. The Igbo community also responded by closing their shops in strategic markets in solidarity with their leader, causing some hardship in the town. The spare parts markets were almost grounded and vehicles owners and mechanics had problems getting parts for vehicles needing repairs. The intervention of the Ondo State Government to resolve the matter culminated in Friday’s peace meeting between the palace and the Igbo community. Led by the President of the Ohaeneze Ndigbo, Ondo State, Okechukwu Okorie, the Chief of Staff to the state governor, Kola Ademujimi, Mr. Oloehika and other members of the Igbo community prostrated before the monarch, seeking his forgiveness. Speaking on behalf of the delegation, one Mr, Anoliefo said the Igbo people had found Akure a hospitable place in the last 100 years. He urged the Deji to forgive their errors, promising that such action would not repeat itself in the future. Also speaking, Mr. Ademujimi appealed to the Deji, Oba to forgive all the wrongdoings of his Igbo brothers, saying there would be no meaningful development in an atmosphere of rancour. Responding, Oba Aladetoyinbo said he had pardoned the offenders, promising that their shops at the markets would be opened on Saturday. Oba Aladetoyinbo thanked Governor Mimiko for his intervention as well as Akure youths for their peaceful disposition all through the crisis. He however said the position of the disputed Eze Ndigbo would be considered at the council of Obas which would hold next week.

Ibo can not rule Nigeria because the numbers are not on your side since the rest of Nigeria you need to vote for you are your enemies.
You want to be your own island even though they say no man is an island...so stay in your isolated island and keep crying.
Hate, bitterness and tribalism gets you no where hence your precarious situation on the ground today..

francizy: Its not in my interest to argue with you about whether the Igbo politicians are upright. Just give me names of other politicians from other tribes u assumed have upright people.
I don't like how we Nigerians reason. Don't paint your people as angels and Igbos as devils because last four years is just on same level as OBJ, Abacha, IBB, etc administration. Yorubas and Hausas have been the key players in the Nigerian leadership.
During their tenure, what did they bring to this country? We Nigerians are always sentimental/tribal or religions biased or both, that is why our wealthy crooks called politicians play around with our intelligence. Why do you paint other tribes leadership as good/average when you know fully well that you're just lying to yourself?
This is why I said it that God will never bless this country till we reason like human beings. Even the monkeys we get vexed for being called by the whites behave better than we blacks because they value their kind.
If you still have the mentality that your people and Hausas are upright, just give me a few examples of the ones u know that were upright. Also, don't forget that the best thing to ever happen to NAFDAC is Dora and how any allegations were labelled against Soludo while in office? The topic has nothing to do with other tribes ruling Nigeria because they have already regardless what you think about them, it's about ibo ruling Nigeria so give us a few names worthy. |

omogidi234: Thanks. I wanted to say that. At OP, next time you see any aircraft with green stripes and coat of arms at the tail, it belongs to the Presidential fleet. They have quite a large fleet, that is why they could lend one to the Custom's boss. Whether he is entitled to Presidential jet or not is a matter for another day. The Federal Government has purchased an aeroplane for the Nigerian Customs Service (NCS) at a cost of N1.73 billion.
The purchase is part of a bid to boost the capacity of the agency in regards to curbing smuggling on the country’s border.
Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, the Minister of Finance, who commissioned the new aircraft on Friday at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, said it would help the Customs Service to strengthen aerial surveillance of the various terrains along the country’s borders.
Okonjo-Iweala congratulated the Comptroller General of Customs, Abdullahi Dikko, on the acquisition of the aircraft and urged the agency to work harder in order achieve better results for the country.
“The aircraft is an investment for which the country expects good returns,” she said.
“The terrain around the country’s borders includes difficult-to-access riverine and mountainous areas, which make monitoring and combating of the activities of the borders challenging. Several customs personnel have lost their lives or sustained injuries during attacks by smugglers in recent times.”
The two engine 12-seater aircraft with registration number 5N-DIA,which can fly up to 45,000 ft in altitude, will be captained by Kuhi Mbaya

Yoruba Traditional Institutions: Origins, Concepts
Alo Abiola, Gbenga Adeboye, George Okojie, Kazeem Akintunde, Tope Fayehun — Oct 23, 2015 3:57 am | Leave a comment Yoruba Obas sit at the peak of ancient states as heads of the aristocratic society and rulers of their realms. They were the symbols of ultimate authority and divine rulership, revered as the next to Almighty (Igba keji orisa) in view of the vast control and influence they wielded in their communities while balancing their autocratic authorities with the exercise of absolute power. In this report, KAZEEM AKINTUNDE, GEORGE OKOJIE, GBENGA ADEBOYE, ALO ABIOLA and TOPE FAYEHUN, examine the origins and concepts of the institutions.
Alaafin of Oyo
The ancient Oyo Empire, established by the Yoruba people, controlled a wide area between the Volta and Niger rivers by the mid-17th century. The capital of the state was moved from old Oyo (Katunga) in 1930s and the Alaafin (Lord of the palace) of Oyo kingdom still resides in the city.
The Oyo Alaafin is an integral portion of the Yoruba nation that descended from the historical figure, Oduduwa or Olofin. According to historians, the Yoruba arrived in their present homes in waves from the ancient Meroe of the east of Sudan. Ile-Ife was their first principal centre of civilisation. Oranyan (the first Alaafin) was either the son or the grandson of Oduduwa: all of them met indigenous population that they conquered and assimilated. In different monarchical tradition as they arrived in waves from their original homes in the Sudan, they instituted various kingdoms: Oyo, Ife, Ijesa, Ijebu, Owu, Owo, Ekiti, Ondo, Ketu etc.
OONI OF ILE-IFE
Ile-Ife, (the Source) is the cradle of Yoruba nation, most towns and villages in Yoruba land trace their origin to Ile-Ife while those who have affiliates with other towns still have those towns tracing their
origin to Ile-Ife.
Therefore, the status of the traditional ruler of their source is central to the existence of the communities.
Historians have failed to agree on the origin of the progenitor of the Yoruba race, Oduduwa, also known as Olofin Adimula.
While some said that he migrated from the far East to Ile-Ife, others claimed that he descended directly from heaven which inadvertently establishes Ile-Ife as the cradle and indeed the town that gives light to the entire world (Ile-Ife, ibi ti ojumo ti n mo wa).
Oba of Lagos
The seat of the Oba of Lagos is the most supreme kingship in Lagos State, a coastal Yoruba settlement now Africa’s modern mega city and his sovereignty as a supreme traditional authority in the region is not in doubt.
The origin of Lagos kingship of Oba can be traced Lagos dynasty which started in 1600 during the era of Ashipa (1600-1630). Ashipa was regarded as the founder of the Lagos dynasty. Available historical
facts showed that he was acting as the leader of the people of Lagos but not as the king. He was said to have served as the intermediary between the Oba of Benin and the people of Lagos (eko), spent 27 years as the leader of eko. He died in 1630 and his son Ado took over his responsibility.
Thus, Oba Ado could be regarded as the first king of Lagos. He settled down in the southern part of Eko called “Isale Eko”, Isale literally meaning bottom, but must have been used to indicate downtown of Lagos.
AKRAN OF BADAGRY
From existing perspectives, Kings from the ancient and historic city of Badagry have a fascinating history of Kingship known as (Wheno Aholuship) and its traditional chieftaincy institution.
It was founded around the Third quarter of the fifteenth century, precisely 1424, by Akran Gbafoe, the ancient city of Badagry originally known as Ogbagleme.
Alake of Egbaland
The title ‘Alake’ (owner of Ake), is used for the paramount ruler of Egbaland. The present holder is HRM Oba Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo, Okukenu 1V.
The Egba people, who originally lived at Igbo Egba under the Oyo Empire, initiated the title after they became independent following the collapse of Oyo in the first half of the 19th century after a revolt.
Awujale of Ijebuland
‘Awujale’ is the title of the Oba of Ijebu Ode and paramount ruler of Ijebuland. The present Awujale, HRM Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona, was crowned on Tuesday, April 5, 1960.
Ijebu was a Yoruba kingdom in pre-colonial Nigeria. It was formed, like many city states of the time, around the 15th century. According to legend, its ruling dynasty was founded by Obanta of Ile-Ife.
The kingdom was one of the most developed in the region with a complex and highly organised government. The capital was at Ijebu Ode where the Awujale had his palace.
DEJI OF AKURE
Deji of Akure Kingdom is the title of the traditional ruler of Akure kingdom, the headquarters of Ondo State.
Deji is the paramount ruler of Akure speaking community which comprises of Akure South, Akure North, Ifedore and Uso town under Owo local government area of the State.
Osemawe of Ondo Kingdom
Osemawe is an exalted title of the Paramount Ruler of Ondo Kingdom.
He has over 40 villages and cities under his command.
The Institution of Rulership in Ondo from the inception is hierarchical with clear cut protocols, procedures and guidelines to prevent abuse.
EWI OF ADO-EKITI
The history of Ewi as the head traditional institution of Ado Ekiti is inseparable from that of Ado community itself.
Biritiokun (Ewi) was one of the direct offspring of Oduduwa, who held periodic meetings among themselves.
Oore of Otun Ekiti
People of Otun Ekiti, under the leadership of Oore, according to history, were said to have settled in different places at different times, including Moba near Mushin in Lagos and passed through Ile-Ife before they eventually settled at their present location.
Tradition has it that the Oore emerged from the Okun Moba (Moba Sea) in the present coastal area of Lagos with a Calabash containing water in his hand, beads around his neck and a beaded crown on his head.
OWA OBOKUN OF IJESALAND
The Owa Obokun of Ijesaland, who has Ilesa as his capital town, is a descendant of Oduduwa, the Olofin Adimula of Ile-Ife.
He has six local government areas within his domain in the present day Osun State namely, Ilesa West, Ilesa East, Atakumosa East, Atakumosa West, Obokun and Oriade local governments.

Fayemi canvasses public sector input for prosperity
AGAIN, the national question returned to the front burner yesterday as former Secretary General of the Commonwealth, Chief Emeka Anyaoku reaffirmed that unless she goes back to regional government, Nigeria may be embarking on an endless, fruitless search for meaningful development .
Anyaoku who was chairman at the 2015 edition of the Akintola Williams Distinguished Lecture Series held in Lagos , maintained that Nigeria’s quest to attain full potential in national growth and political stability would be possible only if there is a restructuring of the existing basis of the country’s governance, saying a return to regional government is the way forward.
For Anyaoku, the present structure is militating against the fast development of the country. Former Governor of Ekiti State, Dr. Kayode Fayemi who delivered the lecture titled: Leadership factors and good corporate governance: Key to national growth and development , said that a continued deliberate devaluation of the public sector in order to paint the private sector as very critical to building national prosperity will do Nigeria no good. http://www.ngrguardiannews.com/2015/10/anyaoku-urges-return-to-regional-govt/ |
