XerXers:Empty bushes always lead to densely populated areas. North has mostly disperse, rural settlements and as such roads have to link to those places covering thousands of kilometres. |
chiefolododo:There is no single, I mean no single bad road belonging to state or LG that is bad across the entire Jigawa. No state have the kind of roads there. On the other hand, Borno State alone is bigger than the entire SE, most Northern states like Kogi, Kwara, Benue, Borno, Niger, Sokoto are too vast to have good roads linking the entire states due to shortage of finances, ponder well about it. |

The Federal Executive Council (FEC) has given an approval to Nigeria Air to lease aircraft to start operations. The Minister of Aviation, Senator Hadi Sirika, announced this Wednesday while briefing State House reporters after the federal cabinet meeting presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari at the Council Chambers of the Presidential Villa in Abuja. What’s the worth of Obasanjo’s endorsement? The minister, who didn’t disclose when the national carrier would start its operations, said the company would begin with three aircraft. Sirika said Nigeria Air was open to investment from any of the country’s airlines, particularly the 51 per cent shares set aside for Nigerians. Asked about the number of aircraft the government was planning to lease and when the airline would likely to take off, he said: “On how many aircraft, I have said in our business plan, in the outline business case which is approved which are presented right here in this hall, I said that we are starting with three aircraft, for the first instance, to do the runs and then we progress. “As to the make and type, we will be having eventually a mix of the two, the Air Buses and the Boeings. Because every airline that grows big is either or, most of them are either Air Bus or they are Boeing, especially for the Intercontinental and international flights. And this will start as domestic airline. And then it will of course grow to become regional and international also intercontinental. On timeline, is a process we’re progressing. We will announce the commencement date soon.” On how the national carrier would survive the current challenge in the aviation sector, the minister said: “On the question of how we’re going to pull this through with the hiccups the aviation is facing, well, certainly it is a global phenomena. Of course, I’m very sure you are abreast with the going on around the aviation industry. But suddenly, it’s not here forever. “Aviation is very resilient activity. From time before, it always takes a deep and then come back up. We saw it in 9/11, we saw it in south, we saw it in global meltdown. We saw it in Pearl Harbor, and so on so forth. So, aviation is very resilient. And I think we’ll get out of the problems we are facing. “Of particular reference, yesterday all of you were present when we discussed with the Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON) as to the challenges we’re facing in terms of Jet A1 availability and of course pricing, which is 40% of the operations of the airline. We’re finding solutions to those problems and the cost of funds also is being attended to and so on and so forth. So, yes, we will get there. And it’s doable and by God’s grace.” Sirika, who was asked if the government was considering the possibility of using the aircraft of companies now under the care of Assets Management Company of Nigeria (AMCON), said: “On engaging Aero Contractor, Arik, and the rest of them. Aero contractors at the moment, they have on their own chosen to shut down to rejig the airline internally. We are open to any person. By the way, the structure of outline business case as you’re aware there is 51% Nigeria. So, that 51 percent maybe taken by Nigerians, be it Arik, Azman, be it anybody or even yourself. “So, you’re open to come and join. We don’t expect to exclude anybody that will come. Of course, anybody coming to join has to go through full due diligence to avoid all encumbrances. Air Nigeria is not known to law, what is known to law is Nigeria Air.” The minister had unveiled Nigeria Air at the Farnborough International Airshow (FIA), the biggest air show in the world in 2018, but the takeoff of the airline has missed several targets set by the Federal Government. Recently, the Federal Government appointed an interim board of the airline headed by Capt. Dapo Olumide, a renowned aviator and former Managing Director of the defunct Virgin Nigeria. Last month, the proposed airline received its Air Transport Licence (ATL) from the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA). Numbered, NCAA/ATR1/ATL214, the licence was presented by Director General of the NCAA, Capt. Musa Nuhu, to interim management of the airline in Abuja. The approval will run for a period of five years, starting from June 3, 2022 till June 2, 2027. An ATL certification is a document, which states the type of operations a carrier would embark on within and outside Nigeria, ahead of the Air Operator’s Certificate (AOC) that is already at the advanced stages. However, the Air Operator’s Certificate (AOC) which would empower the airline to operate scheduled flights is yet to be obtained. https://dailytrust.com/just-in-nigeria-air-to-lease-aircraft-for-commencement-of-operations-sirika |
The Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, on Wednesday, assured responsible Fulanis carrying out their legitimate business in the South-East of their safety. IPOB said it’s not pursuing responsible Fulanis carrying out their legitimate businesses in the South-East. Emma Powerful, the spokesperson of IPOB, made the remark while commending the Eastern Security Network, ESN, for confronting alleged terrorists masquerading as herders in Lokpanta area of Abia State. A statement by Powerful reads partly: “We, the global family and movement of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) under the leadership of our great leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu commend the doggedness of our great security outfit called the Eastern Security Network (ESN) who confronted the terrorists masquerading as herdsmen at Lokpanta on 22nd July 2022. “We commend the IPOB leadership who has seen what our people are going through at the hands of these terrorists kidnapping for ransom, raping our mothers on farms, killing our men on their farms and snatching cars from all the travellers following the routes in Isiukwuato, Umunneochi, Isuochi and Okigwe since over two years but the government refused to heed to the crying of the citizens. “IPOB hails them for doing the needful in that area; we are not pursuing responsible Fulanis not to do their legitimate business. But we are after those terrorists masquerading as herdsmen kidnapping and destroying our people’s lives and farmlands in that area. “IPOB and ESN are responsible for the killing of cows encroaching into people’s farmlands. We also warn the Fulani terrorists not to venture to attack any Community in the area as in their nature. “If they attack any community, that means Fulani will no longer be allowed to do business again in that market. IPOB advise all Fulanis in a legitimate business to ensure they stay within the designated areas assigned for them in the market. They must not exceed the square meters and measurements given to them in that market. If they do, they will have scores to settle with IPOB.” https://dailypost.ng/2022/07/27/esn-after-herdsmen-destroying-farmlands-not-responsible-fulani-in-south-east-ipob/ |
A group of leaders in the North has declared support for the ruling APC's Muslim-Muslim ticket ahead of 2023 The Progressive Christian Clerics, North-West Zone, said leadership should be on the basis of merit, competence, experience and record of performance The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) had strongly rejected the APC's Muslim-Muslim ticket, saying it was a wrong move Your support matters! Christian leaders in the North have thrown their weight behind the Muslim-Muslim ticket fielded by the All Progressives Congress (APC)'s presidential flagbearer, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu. A group under the aegis of Progressive Christian Clerics, North-West Zone, said the Christian faith encourages brotherliness, hence their decision to support the Tinubu/Shettima ticket, Vanguard reported. Northern Christian leaders endorse APC's Muslim-Muslim ticket for the 2023 presidential election. The group, with members across 19 northern states including Federal Capital Territory, Abuja said Nigerians should be more concerned about electing leaders with the capacity to tackle daring security challenges and economic problems militating against the country’s progress rather than issues of religious and ethnic sentiments. This was disclosed in a statement signed by the northwest zonal chairman, Reverend Moses Bitrus of Arise and Shine Prophetic Ministry Kaduna. The Christian group stated further that instead of joining to fight and grudge over the issue of the Muslim-Muslim ticket, they have resolved to pray to God to give Nigeria leaders with the wisdom and knowledge to govern the country. “Nigeria is collapsing and needs leaders with proven track record of performance that are adequately equipped to fight the threats by insurgency with all seriousness. "We need committed leaders with the capacity to deliver on campaign promises without excuses once elected. “These among several reasons are why we disagreed with Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and other churches kicking against the issue of Muslim -Muslim Ticket," the group said. The northern Christian leaders reiterated that leadership should be on the basis of merit, competence, experience and record of performance. Tinubu, Shettima demonstrate religious tolerance While stating that Tinubu governed Lagos for 8 years and Shettima governed Borno for the same period of years, the group said, "the records of their examplary leadership in the area of religious tolerance, economic development and other indices of development are in the public domain.” “We therefore resolve to stand by our faith that preach love for our neighbours and peaceful coexistence without any fear of intimidation to urge Nigerians to vote on basis of record of performance and not religion. ” “Tinubu has been married to a Christian wife for over 40 years and known for his good relationship with Christians across Nigeria . Shettima was singled out as a very receptive Governor ,who gave priority to growth and development of Christian communities in Borno during his days as Governor, so why the outcry? Religion should not be the basis for electing a President and his running mate,” they said. CAN rejects Tinubu’s choice of Muslim running mate Earlier, Legit.ng reported that CAN rejected the selection of former governor of Borno state, Kashim Shettima as the running mate to the APC presidential candidate, Tinubu. Speaking in an interview on Sunday, July 10, CAN’s spokesperson, Adebayo Oladeji, said making such a decision in a polarised country was a wrong move. He stated that if having a pastor as the vice president of the country and Christian clerics and worshipers are being killed, the security of lives and properties of Christians under a Muslim-Muslim could not be guaranteed. https://www.legit.ng/politics/1482192-northern-christian-leaders-reveal-final-position-muslim-muslim-ticket/ |
babasolution:It seems you are ignorant of history. The military did not write any constitution — apart from promulgating the enabling decrees. On November 11, 1998, Abdulsalami inaugurated the Constitution Debate Co-ordinating Committee (CDCC) to “pilot the debate, co-ordinate and collate views and recommendations canvassed by individuals and groups and submit report not later than 31 December 1998”. It was not headed by a soldier but by Justice Niki Tobi, with Dr. Suleiman Kurmo as deputy chairman. There was no single military man on the committee. They went round the country to collect memoranda from the public through town hall meetings in Benin, Enugu, Jos, Port Harcourt, Kaduna, Kano, Ibadan, Lagos and Sokoto. They excluded military formations. After all the frenetic debates — up and down, north and south, east and west — the Tobi committee submitted its report to the military government. Tobi said: “In the light of the memoranda and the oral presentation on the 1995 Draft Constitution, it is clear that Nigerians basically opt for the 1979 Constitution with relevant amendments. They want it, and they have copiously given their reasons for their choice in the different memoranda and oral presentations. So they recommended to the Provisional Ruling Council the adoption of the 1979 Constitution with relevant amendments from the 1995 Draft Constitution.” Abdulsalami accepted the recommendation. When the 1999 constitution was finally published, three of them sat down and placed it side by side with the 1979 constitution. They then did a clause-by-clause analysis. The trio were: Mr. Victor Ifijeh (the current MD of The Nation newspaper who was THISDAY editor then), Alhaji Yusuph Olaniyonu (SA to Senate President Bukola Saraki who was THISDAY politics editor at the time) and THISDAY features editor. They did a word-for-word reading and laughed themselves to stupor: this is pure plagiarism of the 1979 constitution! There were only a few notable differences in the two documents, such as the 13% derivation for oil-producing states and the number of states in the federation. While the 1979 constitution spoke about 19 states, 1999 said 36 states, logically. They were only reflecting the realities on ground. FEDECO in the 1979 document changed to INEC in 1999 constitution therefore it can be concluded that the 1999 constitution is a replica of the 1979 constitution. The biggest irony abt the contentious nature of our constitution is the vicious condemnation of the 1999 constitution by some prominent Nigerians who mostly took part in the previous constitution starting committees or got favour & protection by the system. Those who believed that the constitution was imposed or dictated by military are just insulting the wisdom and character of their forefathers for accepting what is imposed on them by chairing the committee and drafting what they reject! |
Going by the nature of the current politicking everything can happen but we don't want any stupid person or group of persons or religious organisations from the South to come and be saying nonsense about Fulani, North or Muslim after 2023 because they're now just making noise on pulpits with delusional projections which won't take them anywhere. I remember last year when some idiots invaded Nairaland with threads of Southern Governors forum meetings, the Unity of Southern Nigeria and all sort of illusionary hope which later got destroyed because of ethno-religious jingoism among not even the populace but leaders of the region. I said it clearly here with my old account that North isn't the problem of the South, South is so much divided that they can't present unitary candidate and 2023 elections will worsen the Southern unity deeper with aftermath of election accusations of "why not us" or "why didn't u support us", "it is my turn"..... It is left for the South to choose between a candidate whose social media popularity will wane before the election or whose candidature can bring the votes of North and the South while Atiku is waiting for the decision of the South to capitalise on! |
chatinent:So tell me a single road in the North especially where there is big market or insecurity that securities aren't collecting huge bribes like revenue. I challenge you to check the background of all officers constituting bribery and corruption, trigger happy cops, those attacking yahoo boys and those responsible for ENDSARs and prove to me otherwise if they're not Southerners, I challenge you with evidence. All those officers declared by NPF guilty for ENDSARs brutality are indigenes of the places. Those officers mostly killed by IPOBS in check points are evidently indigenous, the names are there, so what are u telling me. It is very wrong to just see an occasion and ruah to Nairaland just to stereotype falsehood on others. Look at how u talked abt blasphemy just because of few incidences which showed how flawed u are abt ability to look inward and act right. |
babasolution:Point of correction: No Hausa man bring foreigners to Nigeria. What is the reason or existing relationship that will make Hausa man bring foreigners to Nigeria? Is it not evidently clear that some section of Nigerians are having consistent clash with citizens of South Africa for alleged human trafficking, prostitution, drugs peddling and Yahoo scam, so, should we blame their tribe that take them to SA, Ghana, and some other countries causing hard for Nigerians and their host Nation? You need to know that Nigerians from all other parts of the country need to know that Nigerian constitution have given all citizens fundamental human right to live freely everywhere in Nigeria and crisis are often happening due to tribal sentiment, denial of right to do busines freely without bias or sentiment. Calling it master and slave relationship is nonsensical. Some people are in Abuja looting and laughing together irrespective of heir ethno-religious background but poor people know nothing other than spreading hates and division... |
chatinent:I don't know why somebody who has never set his foot outside his zone will always have the courage to lie and spread falsehood about others. Have u been to North that u are making this false claim? Securities are collecting bribes all over the Nation especially in war/insurgency ravaged areas and roads to big market towns which sometimes predisposed them to sudden attack by criminals for misplacing the objectives of their being on roads to protect lives and properties.... Pls stop peddling these nonsensical comparisons for wrong reasons. |
tempest01:Not necessarily that time around.....even money influx can attract them to come out, you know Nigerians na! |
Fahdiga:Unknown to you Ganduje deliberately asked for his services from IG, he is recently exterminating thugs ac isa the state before election. There is no way traditional, and Govt institutions in the North will allow what SARS did in the South. Watch and see. Disbanding SARS is the main reason today Northen security become deteriorated.... |
Zamfara is no doubt the worst hit state by insecurity in form of banditry, kidnapping for ransom and cattle rustling, although the real issues behind the crisis are either under-reported or largely overlooked. In rare access to bandits’ enclave, BBC’s investigative team, BBC Africa Eye, explored the real immediate and remote causes of the the problem by speaking to the two main warring sides – the Fulani dominated bandits and the Hausa dominated vigilantes, otherwise known as ’Yan Sa-kai. The 50-minutes documentary, reported by a law student, Yusuf Anka, discovered that the crisis is gradually taking ethnic dimension between the largely Hausa farmers and Fulani herders. The production of the documentary is said to take almost three years. Synopsis of the documentary In Zamfara, no one is safe from the bandits. Gangs of ultra-violent young men ride into villages on motorbikes, armed with Kalashnikov and machetes, burning houses, raping women, stealing property and killing dwellers. They appear on the roads without warning, shooting drivers and abducting terrified passengers from their vehicles. Even children are not safe: hundreds of kids have been abducted from boarding schools across the state, forced from their beds at gunpoint and held captive—for ransom—in the forests. Despite the scale of the suffering, this crisis remains underreported, in part because the terrain is so dangerous for journalists to navigate. More than 3,500 people have been killed in Zamfara this year alone, and up to a million more are now displaced from their homes. And so Nigerians’ questions have gone unanswered: Who are these bandits? What do they want? How and why did this violence take hold? For more than three years, in an attempt to find answers, BBC Africa Eye has been working to gain access to the bandit warlords of Zamfara. At huge personal risk, Anka has visited bandit leaders in remote encampments across the state—including one of the men who, in February 2021, abducted nearly 300 girls from a school in Jangebe, a mass kidnapping that made headlines around the world. Until now, these bandits have never spoken to the media. The discovery In a series of shocking encounters, the documentary exposes the full horror of the violence that has engulfed the state. It makes plain that the Nigeria as a state is failing to provide even the most basic security to many of its citizens. It reveals just how lucrative the kindap-for-ransom business has become, and warns the country that this crisis now contains elements of an ethnic war. Most of those who spoke in it concluded that not much is being done by the government to address the challenge. Who are the warring camps? The bandit warlords of Zamfara discovered that the crises started mostly as a fight over land and water between farmers and herder, later got compounded by climate change, corruption and poverty. The two tribes of Hausa and Fulani have been co-habiting for centuries in Northern Nigeria. However, the recent crisis is on the verge of ending this hitherto kinship enjoyed by the two tribes seen by many as one. The fight is mostly now between Fulani bandits and Hausa militia vigilantes who said they are protecting themselves on one hand, and the government on the other. But, the documentary however said the issue has devised simplistic interpretation and remain largely under-reported. Who are the bandits and what do they want? Fulanis herders have for decades complained of marginalisation and illiteracy. Bandits raid roads and villages, killing innocent passengers and inhabitants, making it difficult for people to live in these areas. “I swear to God, wherever a single Fulani is killed, we shall kill 120 Hausas, we can’t be arrested, only God can catch us, not security. Whosoever dares enter forest is not coming back,” said one of the Fulani bandits in a video obtained by the documentary. Authorities in Zamfara think there are as many as 30,000 bandits, split into around 100 heavily armed gangs. Taking up arms is the only language government understands – Aleiro Ado Aleiro, one of the most feared bandits leaders in Zamfara, whose head the police put a bounty of N5m, sees violence as the only way to attract government attention. He said, “We only protest with guns. We don’t know where to see journalists or where to protest. Our only protest is to carry arms and storm villages. That’s when the government will wake up to understand our problems.” ‘I don’t kidnap, I only kill’ Aleiro also explained that he has never kidnapped anyone, even though some of his gang members do, he only kills. “I have lost count of the number of people I have killed so far, especially the vigilantes.” Another bandit from Aleiro’s camp said, “All our animal routes have been taken over by farmers. We can only ply vehicles’ roads or some rocky roads where our cattle keep falling and some dying in the process, and we are being chased and killed. “Why has a Fulani herdsman become so worthless in Nigeria? We neither have schools, nor hospitals or where our animals drink. We can’t do without milk or meat. “We are being marginalised and sidelined, the only way we can respond is by taking up arms. We are not bandits, government is the real bandit,” he added. However, the documentary discovered that only a fraction of the violence, possibly one with high casualties, is reported, such as when over 200 were killed in Kurbar Danya village, or when about 300 schoolgirls were abducted in Jangebe. Both Fulanis and Hausas are at fault – Dantawaye Hassan Dantawaye, one of the first bandits to import AK-47 rifles to Zamfara from Niger Republic said both the Fulanis and the Hausas have faults in the ongoing fight. He however said the main problem of the Fulani herders is retaliation, while that of the Hausa is lack of proper investigation of the real perpetrators of banditry. He has however surrendered his weapons in a recent amnesty programme According to him, “There is government, police and the army, but none of them act. “Although I have surrendered and live peacefully, I still live in fear. Over the past decade, all our schools have not been functioning, which means in years to come, we will breed generation of illiterates, who cant differentiate right from wrong. “We have now reached a point where some don’t even know anything like peace, they were born in violence. They don’t know that their is sin in what they do. In fact, some see it as business now.” However a year after, Dantawaye took up arms again after an attack on his house that saw it completely burnt allegedly by soldiers. More than 40 bags of grains inside his house were also reportedly destroyed. “In the whole world, nobody listens to us or hear our voices, even when we are invited for talks, what we say is usually discarded and is regarded as thrash,” Dantawaye added. In February 2021, about 300 schoolgirls were abducted in Government Girls Science Secondary School in Jangebe, including five members of the reporter’s extended family. But according to Abu Sani, one of the abductors of the girls said they abducted 280 of them to offend the government, saying it was the right thing to do. “We initially asked for N100m as their ransom, but after negotiations, we settled for N60m. We used the money to buy more weapons,” said Sani. On why the banditry persists, Sani said it has now turned to a money-making “industry,” both from government and the bandits. In 2021, Zamfara state government is reported to have the greatest number of loss of lives to insecurity in Nigeria. Much of the military effort in the state is by air, but not all bombs find their targets, as some of them fall on innocent citizens. The documentary tried to reach out to Nigerian armed forces to comment on the allegations raised, but they did not respond. Why we gave ‘voice’ to bandits – BBC Speaking to Daily Trust on why the BBC decided to give ‘voice’ to the bandits by visiting them even in their most dangerous enclaves, the reporter, Anka, said their intention was to give the conflict its much needed attention for everyone to understand it. He said, “The point is not to give voice to anyone, but to give perspective for people to understand the real issues behind the conflict. “We approached it from the point of being under-reported, so we decided to dive into it without any opinion. “The only opinion we formed were those we gathered from our findings and reactions from the victims and perpetrators. Their are victims and innocent people who are affected from both side of the conflict.” How dangerous was it to travel to bandits’ enclaves? Asked how difficult and risky it was to travel to some of these deadly bandits camps in Zamfara, Anka said it was an experience he would always live to remember. He said, “It was extremely difficult. Even travelling on Zamfara highways is risky these days, not to talk of entering forests. “We had to visit even some of the notorious bandits. There was an experience I will always remember; I was in one of the villages there and military were striking by air. It was only God that spared my life. I would have been killed there. “Our main objective is for Nigerian government and the people to understand the conflict and the dynamism it is gradually taking. We realised that there is no effort whatsoever from the government to take care of these victims,” Anka explained. https://dailytrust.com/banditry-a-peek-at-bbc-africa-eyes-documentary-on-zamfara-warlords |

Penguin2:Point of correction, there is no way Kwankwaso will step down or work with Atiku in the current political atmosphere. Tinubu is his right man, right choice. Kwankwaso knowns the very root of Nigeria's problem than Atiku and Tinubu but he also knows that Atiku is a very bad choice for Nigeria. Nigerians will remember Buhari for good if Atiku becomes President; Atiku is capitalist, greedy, insatiable and have no aorta of concern for masses and can do everything to buy the elites, media houses and religious leaders to make his bid and his govt look good if he wins election unlike Kwankwaso who is a realist. Kwankwaso made it clear recently in Arise TV interview that if he is to step down it would be for Tinubu and he praised the competence of Tinubu in the interview. Kwankwaso left both APC and PDP because people of his character aren't needed in PDP. Politics need people who are ready satisfy the perpetual looting of treasury, keep elites in the circle of looting and manage citizens not to understand the cult. Tambuwal and Atiku orchestrated the persecution of his ally that led to his exit because in a fair Primary Election and true popularity not buying of conscience Kwankwaso is much popular in the North than Atiku. Kwankwaso emergence as Presidential candidate in NNPP and not as PDP member like in 2019 is a good case for Tinubu. Currently, Atiku has no particular zone that he could get majority of votes in Nigeria except may be if SS would do so! |

alsudan:Pls stop listening to analysts who sit at their comfort zone in a far away Abuja or Lagos and be feeding you with fat lies. Atiku can only win Adamawa and Taraba in NE, there is no way Kwankwaso can win Jigawa but I surely know that he will sweep Kano completely. The only APC State that Tinubu may lose in the North is Plateau State. Relying on Christian votes in NC as you make 2023 Election look religious will hurt u beyond consolation because with Nasarawa, Niger, Kogi and Kwara I don't see how the religious jingoism of Peter Obi fans can give him majority of NC states.
