nedu666:In 2018, Buhari created the Presidential Infrastructure Development Fund (PIDF) to build the N206bn 2nd-Niger Bridge. And in September 2018, construction began with PMB funding it through PIDF and $100m of FG’s Abacha loot . Buhari disbursed N157bn from 2018-2021 for the bridge. The news that former President Goodluck Jonathan paid 30% of the N206bn is outright falsehood. On record no state is part of funding the project as claimed by some people because the noise would have been louder about their input especially due to the fact that those mentioned states are opposition party staes. Muhammadu Buhari through his PIDF created, to fund Lagos-Ibadan, Abuja-Kaduna-Kano, 2nd-Niger Bridge , disbursed the funds through FG. Second Niger Bridge funding: this bridge was proposed by President Shehu Shagari. Shagari approved the design of the project but was ousted from power by Gen Buhari. In 1987, IBB also approved an improved design. Obasanjo, flagged off the project in Asaba but could not execute it. Yar Adua approved that the Project should be executed under a Public Private Partnership. OBJ approved N58.6bn which disappeared to thin air. Yar Adua approved that 60% should come from the contractor, GITTO GROUP; 20% from FG not and 10% from Anambra and Delta states. Unfortunately, under Yar Adua, the project was suspended. Then Goodluck Jonathan, approved in August 2012 at Federal Executive Council a sum of N325m for the new design of the bridge that Shagari, IBB, OBJ had approved and money paid for this design. GITTO could not execute the project. So, the PPP signed with the contractors defaulted. Julius Berger was brought in to replace GITTO. President Buhari, decided to establish a Presidential Infrastructure Development Fund, PIDF that all Govs approved during National Economic Council to fund the project and other proposed projects across the Nation including Abuja-Kano, Lagos-Ibadan roads rehabilitation among others. The Governors agreed that a sum of $650m should be transferred from Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas, NLNG dividend account at CBN as initial seed to fund projects critical to nation development as we can not rely on budgetary allocation. The project was awarded to Julius Berger for a sum of N206bn by NSIA via Federal Ministry of Works & Housing and approved by FG. Again, PPP did not work and died. Then, Gen. Sani Abacha‘s loot came in and part of the agreement signed during repatriation of the fund is to fund critical projects in Nigeria and is being used to fund the project too. The project was reviewed in three phases . The first phase was N206bn; Second phase: N88.09bn; Third phase: N112.09bn. Combined cost is N406.2bn A new company was introduced to help Julius Berger called Reynolds Construction Company on 8th October 2019 that is construction of 17.5km My own Onitsha link road ( Onitsha to Okpa Enugu Expressway) and its associated infrastructure. Again, National Economic Council approved that $250m should be deducted from EXCESS CRUDE OIL ACCOUNT to the Nigerian Sovereign Wealth Fund. That is part of Presidential Infrastructure Development Fund. This is one of the infrastructure projects responsible for shrinking ECA. NSIA also released the sum of N157bn and the work is 91% complete. One of the iconic and legacy projects FUNDED by President Buhari’s Govt. No any state Govt contribute 10% to the funding of Second Niger Bridge. It could be recalled that Hon. Chuma Nzeribe led the battle that FG should fund the project despite clear commitment by the her.

1TripleC:That is why nobody will pity your unfortunate and ingrate attitude. GEJ, Yaradua and OBJ awarded and paid too many non-existing projects. Under GEJ nothing was done in that bridge beside physical design, we saw how it was started in 2018 after GEJ was out of power from zero to where it is today. It is obvious you only want power but not infrastructure at all. This is the highest absurdity I have seen recently. |

No serious business man will invest his money in the controversially sold DisCos and GenCos because of their high potential to collapse. In the first place Govt should have sold them to powerful business men, group or entities with track record of concrete assets with little liability who can expand and boost the companies to better situation but look at it now, people are contributing money to buy transformers, state govts still in charge of electrification completely, FG subsidising GenCos with about N150b annually. Very regrettable, selfish privatisation. Nigerians are just cheated! |
The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, on Wednesday promised that the results of the 2023 general elections would be transmitted electronically. There have been calls by stakeholders that the deployment of technology in the country’s electoral processes be enhanced to address hitches witnessed in previous elections. It was against this backdrop that the Electoral Act was amended by the National Assembly. President Muhammadu Buhari had, on February 25, assented to the Election Act 2022 after its passage by the National Assembly. One of the key provisions of the law is the deployment of technology in the electoral process. Section 52(2) of the Act says: “Subject to Section 63 of this bill, voting at an election and transmission of results under this bill shall be in accordance with the procedure determined by the commission (INEC), which may include electronic voting.” Speaking on Wednesday in Abuja when he hosted a delegation of Media Trust Group (owners of Daily Trust newspapers and Trust TV) on election debate, the INEC boss said going forward, the electoral body would transmit election results electronically. Media Trust Group is organising a series of debates for presidential and governorship candidates ahead of the next year’s general elections, dubbed ‘Media Trust Nigeria Election Debate 2023’. Yakubu, told the delegation that the transmission of elections results from the polling units (PUs) would be a permanent feature in the nation’s electoral processes. “Yes, it is going to be permanent in all elections conducted by the commission going forward. But I wish to draw your attention to the fact that we did not start the electronic transmission, at least, from the polling units to the IReV Portal, in Anambra or FCT elections. “It was actually on August 2020 that we deployed that for the Nasarawa Central State Constituency by-election, the first election conducted under COVID-19. So, if you look at the IReV Portal, you could see all the results from the 2020 to the Ekiti and Osun governorship elections and all the other by-elections we conducted,” Yakubu said. What INEC learnt from Kenyan presidential poll On lessons learnt from the just-concluded Kenyan presidential election, Yakubu said that the INEC had received a letter from the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) of Kenya that it wanted to deploy the Kenya Integration Election Management System (KIEMS) and that it was going to transmit polling unit level results to the collation centre. KIEMS is the equivalent of the Nigeria’s Bi-Modal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS). He said like Nigeria, the transmitted results were collated manually. He also noted that Nigeria’s BIVAS is a significant improvement on the Kenya’s system because in Nigeria, the collations have to pass through several stages from the polling units to the ward level, to the local governments and the states before reaching the national portal for the presidential election. This, Yakubu said, allows agents of all political parties and candidates to observe the collation process at all stages, unlike in Kenya where results go straight to the national portal. The INEC chairman also said that while Nigeria learnt from the 2017 Kenyan elections, the Kenyans had also learnt a lot from the conduct of the 2019 and 2023 general elections in Nigeria. He said the collation of results was faster in Kenya possibly due to the fewer numbers of polling units and registered voters compared to the larger number of same in Nigeria. On pending by-elections, the INEC boss said that there were 27 pending by-elections across the country. He said the commission would conduct the elections pending when court cases and insecurity in some of the affected constituencies were resolved. Speaking further, Yakubu said the INEC would support the Media Trust Group’s debates in order to deepen issue-based politicking ahead of the 2023 elections. According to him, there are other debates and more expected to be conducted ahead of the 2023 elections. He, however, said that the commission would be watching all the debates like other Nigerians. Daily Trust reports that for four months, three Senate seats: Borno North, Nasarawa West and Zamfara Central Senatorial Districts have been vacant following the resignation of the occupants, including the national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Abdullahi Adamu; Senator Abubakar Kyari and Senator Muhammad Hassan Nasiha. The Media Trust Group delegation, including the Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO), Mallam Mounir Haliru Gwarzo, was led by the MTG’s Election Debate Committee Chairman, Prof. Jibrin Ibrahim. Ibrahim had earlier said that the visit was to seek the support and participation of the INEC in the coming debates and other activities to promote and sustain issue-based politics and campaigns in Nigeria. https://dailytrust.com/2023-e-transmission-of-election-results-has-come-to-stay-inec |

All socio-cultural groups in Nigeria are relatively irrelevant and can't influence Elections. They're unrepentant, old criminals with zero electoral value looking for relevance through ethno-religious bigotry. In 2019, almost all Northern elders forums and groups rejected Buhari for Atiku and couldn't influence the Election. |
Government transition always cine with disappointments which lead to defection of politicians. This started in 2007 and 2015 General Elections. However, Shaaban Sharada's history is a clear message on how hasty and undetermined Nigerian youths are in politics. The guy was ardent social media propagandist of Buhari since his tenage years. He suddenly and very luckily got a rare appointment that we hardly used to see at top position as President's aide. In second tenure he was promoted with HoR seat and got elected but the deceptive slogan of not too young to rule made him contested for Kano state Governor during APC primary election and lost. He didn't really know the real dirtiness of politics and started crying after failing. He has so many rooms to grow but is so desperate to become Governor at his youthful age without reflecting on how many times his boss, Buhari contested and lost among many serial losers who lately succeeded in their aspirations. Sharada is a typical example of how politics can make poor, seemingly hopeless people rich within short time but the guy is making grave mistake. Youth have a lot to learn in Nigeria's political terrain! |
Igbojew:you fucking fanatic need to educate yourself more about history snd Nigeria. North or any other region or zone isn't defined by religion or tribe but the demography and geographical location of the place. Those who aren't interested in the demarcated area call North should move to where they think they're needed. Everything in you has affinity to religious bigotry. When the whites came they imposed religion and culture on those who they mate naked and illiterate but those who were learnt, full of well defined culture and tradition with standard leadership system equal to theirs must have gotten utmost priority and upper hand respect than the barbarians they mate in you. Let us see if your tactic can match our expertise! If you are ignorant of history, let me remind you that the treachery, backstabbing, betrayal your ancestors showed to the so much trust they were given led to your misery. It will be on record that you forced us to live under the current project called Nigeria that is why after your failed betrayal nobody's will allow you to escape the trap you set for us. Do you know that when Tafawa Balewa was Prime Minister of Nigeria; Chief of Army Staff was from SE Chief of Naval Staff was from SE IG of Police was from SE Chief of Defence Staff was from SE Internal Affairs Minister SE External Affairs Minister SE Education Minister South SE Many other key ministries to SE Parliament President SE Unilag VC from SE The University of Ibadan VC from SE North resisted same at ABU! Still, there was dissatisfaction by SE, the officers from the region killed this same Balewa!!!! Out of all the most senior officers in Nigeria, SE has 37, none was killed. 8 from the north, all of them were killed. 10 from the west, 2 were killed. Then Ironsi imposed a unitary system of government on the country so that everything can belong to a region who snatched it! We must know our history so that when we want to make corrections, we will not end up concealing the truth. This has nothing to do with tribalism but everything to do with the truth.....at times when lies litter the streets. There is a tendency to think those are truths and facts. *What follows are documented facts that can be cross-checked for authenticity!"* *“Prof. Ben Nwabueze was the man who drafted the constitution that took away powers from regions and handed it to the central government because his brother Aguiyi Ironsi was the head of state then. Today, he is shouting restructuring that he helped to destroy. We won’t forget.”*. The average Igbo man is known to enjoy blaming the Hausa fulanis, Yorubas and indeed every other Nigerian tribe and Lord Luggard/Britain for their seeming claim of being in third class citizen status in Nigeria. In your perpetual attempts to play the victim card, you recount the political events of Nigeria from 1914 to the present in a half-baked and highly selective manner which cleverly avoids the mention of the roles played by your elite who by all natural laws of judgement were actually responsible for the woes that befell not only the Igbo race but the entire Nigeria as a Nation. However, the National archives have the complete and unedited history of Nigeria regarding the political events beginning way back from even before 1914. I will therefore proceed to furnish you with the complete story for all to read and be endowed with enough facts so as to judge and act from an informed position. Shortly after the 1914 Amalgamation of the Northern and Southern Protectorates, it started getting clear that the country was bound to fail as the amalgamation in question was done with colonial fiat without the consent and consensus of the different tribes which were over 300. This prompted the political leaders to start asking for de-amalgamation so as to forestall the future danger which the forced amalgamation portended. To that end, Ahmadu Bello, speaking on behalf of the Northern protectorate in 1944 described the amalgamation as "The mistake of 1914 which if allowed to remain will ultimately lead to unstoppable bloodshed and a failed country". Awolowo, speaking on behalf of the Yorubas and Western minorities, described Nigeria as a mere geographical expression not qualified to be called a country let alone a nation. Awolowo added that if the amalgamation could not be reversed, then Nigeria should be structured as a strictly federal state so as to enable each tribe enjoy autonomy this freedom from being dominated by any one single tribe. But Nnamdi Azikiwe, speaking for the Igbos, denounced Awolowo and Ahmadu Bello, terming them ethnic champions. He accused them of nursing a sectional agenda against the unity of Nigeria, and he declared further that the Unity of Nigeria was non-negotiable. After moving the motion for independece in 1953, Anthony Enahoro proposed that a secession clause should be incorporated into the future constitution of Nigeria so as to give legal backing for any tribe to peacefully exit the forced union if it feels marginalized in future. According to Enahoro, such provision in our constitution would instill in all Nigeria's future leaders the fear of the consequences of misgovernance. But Azikiwe, speaking on behalf of Igbos, rose against him in the parliament and labelled him an agent of disunity, and enemy of Nigeria. At a later date, Awolowo too made a case for secession clause, but Azikiwe again resisted him and instigated the colonial authorities to threaten him and Enahoro with charges of treasonable felony if they didn't stop proposing secession clause for the future constitution. While Azikiwe did all these, Igbos cheered and urged him on because they felt the future Nigeria was theirs to dominate and lord it over every other tribe Before independece, Tafawa Balewa too had in a public speech described Nigeria as a British experiment and Nigeria's unity as a British intention which Nigerians themselves don't believe in. But Azikiwe kicked and demonized him too. Had Azikiwe co-operated with Enahoro, Awolowo, Ahmadu Bello and Tafawa Balewa about the secession clause, Nigeria perhaps would not have been this misgoverned. It should be noted that there were many Igbo members of the parliament in which Azikiwe fought against Awolowo's secession clause proposal in the link above, but not a single one of them rose against Azikiwe or condemned him. Igbos initially never wanted to hear anything like secession in Nigeria because they so much believed, though falsely, that they were the most educated tribe. As an evidence of Igbo domination agenda hence their initial resistance to the idea of secession; here is a quote: "From all indications, the god of us Igbos have destined us to rule the whole of Africa". |

slimfit1: Igbojew:North is beyond the tribes you quoted. Agriculture constitute major stake of our GDP. Nigeria has $400b GDP; look at the GDP of different sectors and commodities in Nigeria and assess who control the major stake of Nigeria's economy: Accommodation, food, transportation and real estate: 12.2%, Education, health, science and technology: 6.3%, Farming, forestry and fishing : 30.5%, Manufacturing, mining and quarrying: 11.3% Retail, maintenance, repair, and operations: 24.9% Managerial, finance and insurance: 4.2% Telecommunication, arts and entertainment: 1.8%, Other services: 8.8%. Going by the given statistics above it can be seen that Education, health, science and technology, Entertainment, manufacturing, Telecommunication, arts and entertainment that u may claim to have more input are not up to 30.5% of GDP contributed by farming and fishing mainly done by mainly Northern population while all other businesses ur people do. Go to the Nigerian high ways linking North to South and see how infinite number of trucks transport meat and food for your consumption but you are here advertising your deep ignorance of Nigeria's make up. Oil isn't upto 11% of our GDP and govt is the major beneficiary of oil money. |
jchioma:Don't be that myopic. That is the major difference between you and North. No Northerner is mentally inferior, we aren't afraid of any organisation or Nation no matter how powerful that organisation or Nation is. We are free people and have always been free, colonisation failed to colonise our mind nor turned us mentally inferior like you. UN is the most useless organisation in the world that every year leaders like Ahmadi Najad, Late Mugabe, late Hugo, late Gaddafi and many other African snd Asian leaders use as a ground to insult, expose the subjugation agenda and fire out their extreme dissatisfaction with made for white organisation and nothing has ever happened. UN is very useless, organisation that many African lesders dealt with. An organisation that can't stop war nor command respect and always answerable to other fellow sovereign Nations equally like us. Wake up and live like a free African blood! |
DenreleDave:Muslims only go to mosque to pray. Mosque has no room for political discussions. Again, until now Muslims don't in anyway declare support to any candidate for religious reasons. Peter Obi/his supporters is(are) making a big mistake for openly making the campaign look religious. Should they change their approach they may get unconditional support from all Nigerians but the damage is inevitably growing with every passing day... |
The grand corruption Permanent Secretaries perpetrate in Nigeria is much heavier than Ministers, Senators and all political appointees could do. I know a PS, a woman in FMoA who retired with networth of more than N47b, this was somebody who was employed with nothing to show and Nigerian employees are allowed to only do agricultural business according to civil service rules. Nigeria is already destroyed by mostly civil servants who lecture politicians on how to connive to loot the Nation's treasury. Average Nigerian especially civil servants see govt treasury as an extension of their pocket! |
CaptainZubi:It depends on how deep is your connection. Here in the North especially NW and NE politicians have no option than to give jobs to idle graduates roaming the streets because now is the najor scale use to measure ones performance as a Federal appointee or elected officer. I have seen many lucky guys who were given jobs in those mentioned MDAs among others and they're from very poor family. There are other more lucrative agencies than those mentioned in Nigeria. However, the system of giving jobs to people who aren't qualified or don't pass through the recruitment process is a grave injustice. Level playing ground should be restored because many candidates who qualify to get the offers are omitted and given to those with connection, very unfortunate! |
Very commendable comment. The way some people accuse constitution for their failure is annoying, good leadership is a key to right growth and development. |
The Inspector General of Police IGP, Usman Alkali Baba has presented a certificate of Award to Nassarawa, Divisional Police Officer, SP Daniel Itse Amah for rejecting the sum of Two Hundred Thousand United States Dollars (USD 200,000) offered him as a bribe in a case of alleged armed robbery. In a letter containing the commendation, SP Daniel was hailed for exhibiting sound professionalism leading to the arrest of Ali Zaki, a Kano-based legal practitioner and some Police officers. Our correspondent gathered that investigations by Operatives led by SP Daniel led to the arrest of the suspected armed robbery syndicate in Kano. Consequently, the case was transferred to the Force Headquarters in Abuja on the directive of IGP for discreet investigation. When contacted, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, Force Public Relations Officer, confirmed the arrest and said, “The lawyer and other suspects involved in the case have a case to answer and we are still on with the matter.” https://dailypost.ng/2022/08/15/igp-rewards-kano-dpo-for-rejecting-200000-bribe-in-armed-robbery-case/ |

Laggafin:Do you really know how Presidential elections are won? No zone or region (North or South) can independently produce President with their votes until they extend hand of friendships to other region. The requisite of winning election I n Nigeria is, a candidate must at least win 24 states across the 6 geological zones with 25% votes and majority of the total casted votes of the election. This tea joint aspersion reported by Vanguard is just a mere blackmail because it never happened. We aren't yet at a juncture of making power sharing agreement. SW requested some positions prior to 2015 election which were given to them and SS to got their shot (FMoWPH and Finance were given to SW in the first term, Transport and Petroleum were given to SS very lucrative Ministries), it happens but now isn't yet time. The news seems more for tea joint when the reporter stated that Tinubu went ahead and announced Shettima. Tinubu can't afford to take the risk of ignoring those Governors who helped him win primary election. They deliberated lots of issues, submitted names, scrutinised many factors and came out with Shettima. You need to eschew this disdain for others because of their expertise in playing the art of the game of politics, you either emulate them to play better or lose in anger! |
This guy must either be selfish or ignorant of his comment. This ppl are fighting for their salaries not development of Education because it is evidently clear that finally they insist that if govt meet their salary demand and implement UTAS they'll go back to class, so where is the studens' needs? This year alone FG paid them N92billion Earned Academic Allowances in January and got more than N50billion last year. Nigeria is one of the countries pumping huge money into education than most African Nations, our population is just a big factor in our growth. TETFUND receive 2% annual industrial revenues of Nigeria and pushed them into education. Annual spending of TETFUND and FMoE is more than N1trillion much bigger than any other sector in Nigeria but these people and other ignorant folks can't get it right. |
The apex socio-cultural Igbo group, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has appealed to the Federal Government not to abandon former Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu and his wife, Beatrice. Ohanaeze urged the Federal Government to interfere in the trial of Ekweremadu, and transfer it to Nigeria. Ekweremadu and his wife are facing trial for alleged organ harvesting in the United Kingdom. The former Senate President was accused of importing a Nigerian into the UK for the purpose of harvesting his kidney. The kidney was meant to be harvested and transplanted to Ekweremadu’s daughter. But the Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, said the Nigerian Government would not interfere in Ekweremadu’s trial. Malami said it’s not the tradition of the Nigerian Government to interfere in such trials both locally and internationally. However, the National Publicity Secretary of Ohanaeze, Dr. Alex Ogbonnia, disagreed with Malami on the claim that the Nigerian Government can’t interfere in Ekweremadu’s trial. According to Ogbonnia: “Ohanaeze Ndigbo believes that Ekweremadu’s case should not be different, especially when Nigeria enjoys longstanding cordial relations with the UK, and all the individuals involved in the UK case are Nigerian nationals. “The Nigerian Government and indeed all Nigerians should know that a measured indignity to Ike Ekweremadu, an illustrious Igbo and a serving senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria is a sad denouement to Nigeria and indeed the entire Africa. “We urge the Federal Government led by President Muhammadu Buhari and Mr. Geffrey Onyeama, Minister of Foreign Affairs; Nigeria High Commission in the UK, the Senate and House of Representatives to burnish their diplomatic channels in ensuring that Ekweremadu and wife get the desired assistance by transferring the case to Nigeria.” https://dailypost.ng/2022/08/15/organ-harvesting-interfere-transfer-ekweremadus-trial-to-nigeria-ohanaeze-replies-buhari-govt/ |

I know you are absolutely from the far North of Nigeria... and a true Dan Arewa. I have had a conversation with you before this year using an older moniker of mine on NL. The Daily Trust article is just an opinion but cannot be factual because a lot of Northerners live in Yorubaland and a lot of Yorubas live in the North and have adopted Northern or Hausa ways of life, especially members of the Muslim Ummah among the Yoruba folks who tend to blend in very well in the far North.
