I don't want to appear condescending but google exist for a reason, I suggest you teach ourself to use it.

No offence meant.

Mr it was condescending but if you say the leaders of industry and legal chambers all schooled abroad I believe you should have some names by heart.

For me you just said a thing without giving any evidence. If you mentioned a few names which you claim schooled abroad , I would have countered it with a similar or superior argument.

I didn't know there was a time Nigerian universities were world class institutions.

How come most people in positions of authority in Industry, our legislative chambers etc all schooled abroad?

When I say world class I mean they could compete among other world universities
About the positions of industry please kindly provide the leaders of Industry and legislative chambers.

Why didn't Buhari build universities when he had the chance?

As at the time he was in power , Nigeria universities were world class and the number we had at that time could cater for the population.

Building universities isn't the problem but improving the standard of the once we have is the major challenge.

For me buildings are useless if you dont have the manpower to give us the best.

Talking of politician's children, Buhari's daughter has no job but paints the town red with dollars. Check out her lifestyle in the uk.

While Buhari sends his children to UK and USA to study, GEJ's children all schooled in Nigeria.

From the picture this is not a Gucci store in London and another thing Buhari's children never went to the school in the US but UK only.

The educational decay is responsible for the influx of Nigerians into foreign universities. Even children of middle class now go to the UK and other countries for studies.

Buhari's older children all schooled in Nigeria.

Nawa for this forum. Anything muslim people a quick to jump to insults and accusations. I have read the comments and honestly the so called intolerance of muslims is nothing compared to the comments made here.

For some unknown reason I dont believe the OP's story because I live in the north and I have never witnessed such incident. I once gave the centenary note in my village all they said is this is "Kai Hajia wanna kudin yan abuja ne" meaning this money is for abuja people infact some thought it was the CEFA.

Proper enlightenment and education was not done across the country before the introduction of the new notes, so it is only natural to reject something you dont know and it takes some time getting used to it.

For those intolerant beings who get worked up about anything Muslim or north, abeg no kill una selves. Your demeanor, utterances, actions and behavior doesn't show you are any better than the Muslims and northerners you so love to castigate. Always forming am better than you/ holier than thou.

I totally disagree with you. Am a Muslim married with kids and my husband doesn't lock me up. Also wearing purdah is a matter of choice.

If my husband takes care of all my needs tell me why i need to be walking around like some loose goat. For women who are expected to contribute their quota to the finances of the family , they have every reason to roam around. As for us, we are not obliged by law , religion or culture to do that but if i decide to do that is welcomed.

So Jega's peaceful duty is to deny the south of their PVC by dumping it at local govt headquarters while distributing it in the North through their mosque and traditional leaders?

You guys are so blind. I am not GEJ but if I am to be him, Jega must go and let that heaven fall and let me see if it will spare anyone under it when it falls.

Funny! PVC's arent distributed via mosques and traditional rulers thats a big fat lie. Infact muslims do not go to particular mosques like christains where u stick to the church you worship. We pray in any mosque. So if you dont have the same people praying in the mosque how the hell are you going to distribute there. Some things are just unbelievable

To answer your question, there isnt any discrimination and you would love to believe. On the different sallah days , we have people who will not celebrate sallah unless they sight the moon themselves. If we have people with such Aqidah (view) what do you want the rest of the muslim ummah to do.

For example, is it all christians that do the ash wednesday, NO! Does that depict any sign of discrimination or changes the fact that they will eventually celebrate easter , No!

I saw a post earlier on a man named "Alhaji Dahiru Mangal" sounds familiar? Well he was a yaradua guy, I ahve heard countless HORIBLE stories about him, the most troubling is somewhat related to the above tread.
He is a known smuggler of contraband mostly from the northern borders especially the kebbi katsina axis, rumor has it that whenever his goods are en route the borders the immigration and custom guys are asked to leave or turn a blind eye to his activities, these type of things is what I hope Change will stop, why should someone be above the law, why should he enjoy certain privileges just because he is mangal.
I suspect mangal might be involved in this case as well

Change is near

Dahiru Mangal is a well known smuggler but I know is they dont withdraw custom and immigration because of his goods. They simply do not seize his goods because he settles them at the border.

Ruining away complicated the whole unfortunate saga. You should have done what Maryam(alaiy salam) did. She sought refuge in Allah when strange creature appeared to her. Click here to read what she said:http://quran.com/19/18 . This confirmed you aren't strong.

Becareful! Say for instance it was a crazy-looking Jinn creature that appeared like that you would run outside and run mad (auzubillah). You better be steadfast in your daily obligatory salat really good, strengthen your faith first before getting into this. If you pick up whatever "sign" you saw, there is no way of confirming whether it is from shaytan or real. Again please read what Maryam alaiy salam said. Click here: http://quran.com/19/18 . Good thing is you invoked Allah in plinth of your post....Mashallah.

You appear to have practiced istiqoma here. That's the real deal some people dont seem to get. You should have learned very well before you began. It's lined up like this: Faith, steadfastness, karammah. (See Quran 41:30) http://quran.com/41/30

Problem is steadfastness.....that's what many of us can't do today. "Bushra" mentioned in the verse is karama (good news here and hereafter)

And maclatunji was right to certain extent. However we do know on this thread that Mr. Mac can be phobia of this things sometimes. Sometimes he's also self-confidence and egocentric. Right Mr Mac grin Definitely, the frog crawled in unnoticed probably days earlier. That sounds familiar though.

Thank you very much for the response. I want to ask if you have come across any of these books as am very much interested in them. it written wholly in arabic and i dont understand arabic. Here is the list;

1.Jami'il asraari wal anwari
2.Afdhalul wasa'ilu
3. Faidhul Qudsi
4. Al-Kifaya
5. Maurudul asnaa
6. Kashful gumum
7. Kashfu wal bayan

I also want to know the implications of saying other prayers such as salawat sa'adati, fatih, muklakatun and tunnajina. These are all from the tijjaniya sect. these are just Salawat Ibrahim (admonishing the prophet S.A.W) but in another way.

Some people say since its not in the hadith or in Hisnal muslim is wrong. But is there anything wrong if I wish to praise Allah and admonish the prophet in different way that is not against the tenets of Islam

How would you know when you ran away? You ran away from the bird because?

Now, you want us to believe the bird is some sort of hocus-pocus, mythical being.

OK, let me tell you that one morning I woke-up in my room at the Corper's lodge during NYSC and found this small slimy object beside my mattress after I finished doing something outside in the morning. It seemed to hop when I moved close to it. It was so tiny that I refused to believe it could be a frog. On closer inspection it was.

Although frogs are plentiful in the area, my room had mosquito net and my rooms door opened to a passage in the lodge with no damp locations for a frog to grow in. So, what did I do? I picked up the frog with tissue paper and threw it out.

I didn't bother my head about where it came from and definitely don't speculate that it is anything mythical or spiritual.

You see the difference in our reactions to strange occurrences?

Mactunji! Am not saying is a mystical being or anything but i couldnt help but wonder where it came from cos all doors my closed and i was on the first floor.

Naturally i too dey fear so i runaway when i get scared. Am also not in a hurry to kill anything even if its an insect as I have heard cases of jinns that transformed to bird, cockroach etc.

.Mashallah!, the man i was talking about said same @bold last Saturday. He said each Surah has Ruhaniyah that emanates from it. It is up to them (Ruhaniyah) if they want to talk to you. I guess that depends on effort put into it. They would say to you "Salam Alaikum abdullah".

The man even said Ruhaniyah will praise you beyond salams then ask what you want from your Rub(Allah). At some point, when you get serious with dua, you hear your doors opening and closing. Thats them sending salawat on you. I described to tbaba1234 earlier in this post. Looks like he doesnt get it. It's on p.5

I experienced this 2 yrs in a row. Then it stopped but only to start again from another percepective between late 2009 and early 2011. Wallah every morning around fajr, I always hear knocks on my door. I am the only one in the apartment and have 2 doors. 1st door leads to the outside the street, 2nd door leads to another section in my apartment but not directly to the street.

It's this 2nd door I used to hear a knocks 3 times every fajr waking me up. The first time it happened. I asked who is it? I never got reply. I opened the door but no presence until i got used to it. It used to wake me up exactky fajr on the dot. But I wasnt attaching any significance to it until I asked the man one day. He asked if i make dua a lot?. I said yes. He laughed. They are ruhaniyah waking you up for fajr. He said it's up to them if they want to talk to me. Then he said maybe I am about to have a company like he does. I was freaked out. I stopped and I began to lack in dua.

But the knocks continued like that for another 6 months before it stopped. I havent been experiencing it since 2011. I think it just depends. Some may not feel physical presence of unseen. Other may feel tranquility and sakina within self. God is Greatest. Allah Akbar

Woow! My grandfather was a sheikh of the Tijjaniyyah sect though he doesnt do the ya inyass/ya shehu. So i got some prayers passed down and i sticked to suratul iklas, ya ladif, ya hayyu ya qayyum and ayatul kursiyyu. Wallahi then i got everything i wanted.

Something happened in 2011 , I was doing qiyamul layl for almost 3 months straight, then from nowhere a bird flew into the sitting room . All doors were locked so i wonder how it got in. I ran away and i have no idea how it flew out.

My parents and siblings thought i was hallucinating but the bird left a sign of its poo around the house.

Now i don't know if that was just a bird or a sign.

I wish some1 could help

owobokiri:
Having lived a bit in the north-Kano to be precise- I am of the opinion that religion is the bane of the core north. This "problem" is made worse by the fact that the dominant fulani feudalistic control of northen cultural structures seem to fiercely guard against change of any sort. Agents of change , both politically or in such areas as education and religion are ferociously singled out and treated as outcasts on their way to a certain annihilation! Put succintly; in the main, the north is largely culturally stagnant! Where she culturally develops, it is backwards! This surprises because this very uncommon. You can only find instances like this in places like afghanistan. In essence, it wouldn't be far fetched to suggest that the dominant fulani ruling house cleverly introduced an atarvistic strand of islam that shares a family lineage with the horrofic brand unleashed on Kabul by the talibans!

How else will you describe a situation where ordinary northerners run away from modern houses because modern gadgets are "worldly"? They prefer their prehistoric mud houses in the villages, not because of poverty, but because the fulani islamic foundamentalist purists who conquered the less fanatical Hausa kingdoms insisted that cave existence is the way forward. Formal education is termed "western", then is mangled with certain revolting hedonistic western lifestyles. This provides the background for the demistification/derision and eventual destruction of education in the north! The result? A massive population bereft of basic skills to compete in a rapidly modernising economy. The same warped interpretation of the koran unleashed a ruthless version of shariah that has accentuated the ranks of radicals and fanatics within arewaland! To save the north we need an Antartuk willing to dismantle a retrogressive fulani oligarchy full of unhinged emirs using religion to stall societal progress.

I disagree with some of what you said as this does not reflect the whole of northern Nigeria. May be the people you associated with in Kano are like that but where i come from I haven't met or seen people who run away from modern gadgets as its termed worldly but I have heard of people like that.

Also we all have to admit that in all religions we have people who share such views as terming modern gadgets as worldly.

Thank you for this Arewa very informative thread. I also admire your patience and polite tone which must be difficult in the face of soo much hatred and bigotry.
I apologize if you have already answered this I haven't been through the whole thread, but returning to the colonial policies you mentioned earlier - we are no longer in colonial times which is obvious, have there been no efforts by the Northern leaders to provide suitable education? Is there no encouragement by them currently?

This is an eye opener.

To be honest and to the best of my knowledge I do not know of other Northern leaders but I can say in my state the government has done its best in making such policies especially the Girl- Child Education. I know that the state schools are highly subsidized and for some free, there is free transportation for students that goes through the nook and crannies of the state. Also there are higher institutions both federal and state were students are admitted based on their academic potential. For those who excel, there are scholarships available for crucial courses that are not offered in the institutions here in Nigeria.

if you are wondering which state its Katsina. Thanks to late Umaru Musa Yar'adua. May his soul rest in peace

The title is very misleading. its totally different from the article. However, northern states do not sponsor but subsidize hajj operations. For example Hajj 2014 cost 1m to 2million naira if going through a private agent but going through state government cost about 900,000.

So this is subsidy and am sure is the same as the christian pilgrimage.

Also going on Pilgrimage is an important pillar of Islam. I dont know of Christianity though.

However, I strongly believe that the government has no business participating in Religious things. This should be left solely to private individuals. As religion is a personal thing not national

Well you assertion is wrong . The Islamic tradition does not prescribe to that but as a human being theres something called freewill and choice. For those who do that is their choice not Islamic tradition.

For example most women of that age bear their husbands name but Women of nowadays prefer to stick to their father's name.

Is it because as a Muslim woman you have no right to inheritance?

Or is it because sooner or later your ram husband may decide to offload you to make room for another wife if he has 4 already?

Unlike Christianity were inheritance is determined by culture e.g Igbo Women do not inherit from their fathers only the 1st male child.

In Islam we have formulas as stated by sharia law. As a wife I get 50% and as a daughter I inherit 25%. Am not so sure of the percentage for the daughter. Either way we have it determined by the sharia.

The other issue I will Ignore as it really none of your concern whether is number 20 sef e no concern you
